Windows Vista Beta Testing What you think about it
odomike replied to sader's topic in Operating Systems
Yea man, I test drove Windows Vista Beta myself and I have about the same thing to say About the OS. Right now, I am running Windows Vista Ultimate and guess what man? The OS is dealing with my hardwares. It aint like I have a weak computer though (Intel ® Pentium 4 630 HT 3.40GHz w/2MB OnDie Cache, 1GB DDR2 5300, 400GB HDD space, nVIDIA GeForce 6200 LE w/256MB video memory), but still that aint enough for the OS.I know that I never had any problems with Win XP performance wise but Windows Vista Ultimate is something else altogether. Ok, I would say the Microsoft really tried where the Windows Aero Graphics effect was concerned but they oughta have thought about the kinda machines that would run the OS.I read a review the other day which stated that up to 50% of US business machines cant run Windows Vista. Well, if you aint got a high (rugged) performance computer and graphics card, dont think about Win Vista. -
Ok here I go. I am currently running Windows Vista Ultimate and here is my review of the OS.It runs most of the Win XP softwares that I have always installed in Win XPTried to install Adobe Premiere Pro v2.0 and it will always end prematurely, telling me that the program installation has been prematurely ended by what I just dont know. Some things work faster in XP while some work faster in Vista. For instance, Win XP makes fonts installation a big deal as it makes my processor (Intel ® Pentium 4 630 HT running at 3.40 GHz w/2MB OnDie Cache) run quite high for some reason which I just cant figure out. On Vista though, that never happened as the processor was relaxing during the fonts installation and processor utilization never crosed 15%.One thing I am sure about Win Vista Ultimate is this "YOU WILL NEED ONE HELL OF A SUPER COMPUTER TO ENJOY THE OS. If you dont have a very rugged performance processor with a 1GB (minimum) of RAM (Dual Channel recommended). I dont think you are gonna get the red cheeks outa the OS.

Hi Everyone,I have been having this kinda perculiar problem in my computer. I was using Norton SystemWorks 2006 which includes the antivirus, firewall and a lot of other programs for tweaking you operating system untill my PC got attaked by a virus. Ok Norton was not able to even detect the virus. I was fortunate enough to get McAfee 8.0i Enterprise edition from a friend whom promised me that that is the latest version of McAfee and that it will surely help me in my trouble.I decided to give it a go ahead (I have already made up my mind to through the rough option of refoirmating and reinstalling everything in my system [takes anywhere between 4 - 6 hours for the complete reformat and reinstallations despite my computer's hardware config <3.6GHz P4, 1GB DDR 3200, FSB 800 MB with SiS661FX NorthBridge chipset, etc>].After installing the McAfee, it was finally able to remove the virus. That was real cool n I was happy ablut that. I decided to update and continue using McAfee after I removed Norton. Here comes my problems. I later decided to install some web server applications (MSQL 5.01, Colfusion and Apache) for my web and database development. I also want to go into mobile applications development too. McAfee activley tagged Apache's SlimFTP server exec file as a virus and wouldnt alow me to install it in normal desktop mode. I rebooted and reinstalled in save mode and everything went fine in there since McAfee wasnt active in safe mode.Well, after rebooting in normal mode and it became active again, it immediately deleted the file again teling me that it is a virus. I dont know exactly what else to do and this is really troubling me a lot.I am anxiously awaiting your helpful replies as to how to tackle this problem. Been wondering what to do though.......Uninstall McAfee and reinstall Apache while I have to go for some other antiviirus or should I just leave McAfee and continue using Apache without the FTP which doesnt make too much sense to me.Thx for your replies.

Flashing Your Motherboard's Bios How to flash a BIOS
odomike replied to odomike's topic in General Discussion
Well, I have flashed people's BIOS severally and it is not a new thing fo me. -
Hey meen,Thank you very much for all your efforts to help me solve my problem. I have finally solvewd the whole issue myself. I opened and brought out the keyboard. Actually, it was the right Ctrl and Shift keys that were stuck. I managed to bring them out and have them to start functioning properly again. The llaptop is now ok and working well and I have already returned it to the owner. She was really happy to see her computer ok once more and you know what? She couldnt stop thanking me.Thanks to you all once again .

Well, I have actually tried all that. I have tried to boot it in save mode. Yea, it did boot properly till desktop in the save mode but when I restarted it again, the same thing happened again and the screen went off again immediately after the boot screen. The monitor has a 17inch LCD monitor and it was previously @ 1024x768 pixels screen resolution. Someone suggested to me that we should call the Dell Support team to know what they are going to say about the problem but I think that a reformat of the HDD and reinstyallation of all the factory firmwares and programs should solve the problem. I am yet to get the permission from my client to do that though.

Here I come againAnother of my clients also have a problem with his Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop. The problem is with the VGA. When you turn on the laptop it display but immediately after the boot screen (uses Win XP Pro w/SP2), the display goes off. This type of problem also occurs on my desktop with my nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (128MB) but I always resolve the isue by booting in save mode and uninstalling the video driver. After that, I will reboot in normall mode and then reinstall the video driver and everything will be alright.I have done that for this Dell laptop but that didnt solve its problem. I have also gone to the Dell support website and downloaded the latest driver for the video hardware. I have also installed this driver on the laptop but that still didnt solve the problem.I also noticed that whenever a projector is connected to the laptop, it displays from the projector witout any problems.I dont know what else to do.Please help me with any suggestions as to how to resolve the problem. Thanks for your anticipated help.

hi,I have a client whose Sony® VAIO© VGN A240 TM laptop has a problem. Ok the problem is this way. Whenever you boot the laptop and as soon as it boots up to the desktop, it automatically start pasting program icons on the desktop. It pastes these icons at so much speed that it can paste up to 1000/min. It infuriates me whenever this laptop starts this thing.I have tried to boot it from save mode (it uses Win XP Pro w/SP2) and tried to see if I can stop the problem from there but I was not able to stop it.I was later to find out that it was the keyboard that is actually causing the problem. I found out that the right Crtl and Shift keys are stuck but my problem is this....Should I go ahead and loose this laptop? I know that everything inside laptops are quite miniaturized and if you dont take care, you might damage something inside there. I dont want to do anything which will cause some problem between my client and me.So, what do you suggest I do?

Flashing Your Motherboard's Bios How to flash a BIOS
odomike replied to odomike's topic in General Discussion
Windows XP I know makes bootable diskettes. Just use the forat floppy option in windows explorer drop down menu. You will see the make boot floppy option. Use it. Of cource I know that the BIOS is the base of your computer but, it is still very flashable and upgradable. You can either flash or shadow your BIOS. Yea I know that those options are there whereby you canhave your MB's BIOS changed by the MD manufacturer and also get it fixed. Those are quite expensive options but they not ruled out though. Well thanks for your contributions. They are very useful too. -
Hi everyone, Ok before I start, I want to let you guys know the meanings of some of the terminologies I will be using in here. Boot loader is a small program which the operating system places on the selected partition (in most cases, the MBR <Master Boot Record>). it is a small program that loads the operating system into the computer’s memory when the system is booted and also starts the operating system. So, before you can think of configuring your PC to have multiple boot, you should also know how to play around with 'em boot loaders too. And you should also make sure that you,ve got enough Hard disc space to accomodate the number of operating systems you would be installing. Linux generally takes less than 4GB of space while you will be requiring up to 15GB for a windows vista installtion. My own PC has seven operating systems: Windows XP Professional, Ubuntu Linux Desktop, Ubuntu Server, Kubuntu Linux Desktop, Mandrake Linux 10.1 Official release, PCLinuxOS and Windows Vista (listed according to the installation partition. You might say that I am one mad person to t hionk of something like that but, I have my reasons which has to get acquinted with ost of the OSes as one of its major reasons. You never can tell what will happen in the nearby future. I am going to use my computer as an example. First of all, I installed Windows XP Professional w/SP2 which I have been runnning for quite some time now. It suddenly occured to me that I can have multiple boot sectors in my HDD which would enable to me have more than one operating sytem in my computer. I started by installing Ubuntu Linux. During the installation of Ubuntu, it wil automatically install its boot loader for you. It doesnt give you any option of configuring the boot loader anyhow you want it. That I would say is quite good though 'cos configuring boot loaders are meant for advanced PC users and you could very easily stop your computer from booting at all if you mess it up. Secondly followed Ubuntu Server and Kubuntu Desktop. Each of these installations places its own boot loader in the MBR (that is the best place for you to place the boot loader if you want it to detect all the OSes installed in the PC or some wont be detected). I am not going to say much here 'cos these particular LInux OSes (Like Windows) simply places their boot loaders in there without asking you any questions. Mandrake linux, for instance doesnt do same. It will ask you, for example, where you want the boot loader to be placed if it detects previous OS boot loaders in there. That might leave you wonderng what next to do. Well, dont you worry the puzzle isnt hard too solve. Ensure that you always place the booot loader in the MBR (that is, the first partition of your HD). The boot loader redirects the computer to boot from the particular partition where each particular OS is installed. mandrake Linux also gives you the option of removing some of the boot parameters or even to add more if need be. the remaining OSes along the line also places their boot loader without questioning you. Well, as you guys can see, installing multiple operating systems on your computer is not such a tedious act only that you will have to be very careful about boot loaders or your computer might not boot at all. I once encountered a problem though. The first Vista download I tried to install was corrupt and while I was trying to install it, it complained of a corrupt cabinet file. Ok, I decided to quit the installation not knowing that vista has messed up Win XP's boot manager. When I rebooted and tried to boot up XP, it started complaining of compressed boot manager, press CTRL + ALT + DELETE to rebbot. That was quite alarming cos I was never planning for a reformat since I have many important files in the XP partition. firstly, I tried to rewrite another boot sector fo XP but it wouldnt allow me. So, what I did next was to repai the OS. That solved my problem and my XP is still up and running without any problems. If you got any problem at all about installing multiple operating systems on your computer, do not hesitate to send me a PM. I would give you every detailed information you need concerning your request/problem. Have a nice day guys.

You got a point there rldowling03. why dont you use the TWS webcoder. Simply type in the code you want to be editted and it will locate that very code everywhere in the web page and fix in the correct one for it. That sould help solve your problem.

Thanks for that advice. I will put that into consideration but, you can bet that I have been doing just that since I reached that very stage. Thanks anyways.

Yes Anwiii. She really loves me and tries everything within her power to make sure that things are ok for me because as will always tell me, once things are good for me, she wont have to face any problems herself. About the question if she feels like a soulmate to me. You really need to see what she feels for me. To her, I am the only person who she can rely on in hard times and anytime she needs comfort. she prefers to come to me first for comfort before going to her mom or any other person. One thing I really love about this girl is that she is this intelligent and full of nice ideas sort of person. And by nice ideas, I mean the sort of ideas that will make things better for both of us. One idea drops into her head and the next moment, she comes running to me for scrutinization and approval. And should in case I reject it, ok she feels a lil' bit bad about the rejection of her idea but she immediately drops it without any hard feelings. She has initiated a lot of ideas which has changed my way of living and everything about me for the better. You know what? People(I mean friends, family and even people I dont know but, whom I have come in contact with) have been advicing me not (never) to let her go because they think that both of us really suits each other. Thanks a whole lot for that advice Anwiii. I have already implemented that for quite some time now. I have already stopped bothering myself about him. Even his daughter (my fiancee) herself has also stopped worying about her dad too. She says that whether her dad supports me or not, that she doesnt care a hoot about that. That all she is concerned about is the fact that I love her and I am willing to take care of her. You know, this girl has already rejected the marriage proposals of two guys (one of them is based in the US), just because ofme. And when her dad tried to question her about her decision, she told him that if she would rather go on celibacy that get married to any other person than me. So, you see, I think we are really meant for each other. All we need is the special grace of God so that everything will work out fine for us. And like you said, problems come before and after marriage but with the love and understanding between the couple, they will always find a way of resolving the issue. Thanks a million times Anwiii for your immeasurable advice. You have helped relieve a forlorn heart.

Prefer using ftp. I prefer using ftp desktop though as it integrates into your windows explorer shell and allows you to actually donwload or upload right from your windows explorer.

Right now, I have Mandrake Linux running in my system. Tried Redhat but, didnt like it that much. Prefered Mandrake. Will be installing ubuntu, kubuntu and PCLinux too. Doesnt mean I am going to remove my Mandrake. It will still be but I will add the new ones and have multi-boot options during system start-up.I am using Acronis OS Selector and it detects all the Operating Systems intalled on my Computer. It lists them immediately after the post screen and leaves you to seleect which one to boot from.

I have tried Redhat and Mandrake Linux OSes. Just finished downloading Ubuntu Linux and curently downloading the KDE Desktop version of ubuntu, Kubuntu. Well, I wana know what these OSes are like as I will be running about 5 OSes after all the download. Well, I wouldnt say that I am lacking space in my hard disks. Got 200GB of space (80GB x2 + 40GB) and got 1.0GB of RAM (PC3200 [DDR 400] DDR SDRAM). So, I cant start comparing myself with someone who will be running the same OS with less than 128MB of RAm and about 3GB of HD space. Never knew that there is a Linux version with as small as 50MB of installation space. wouldnt want that anyways. Already running Windows XP Professional w/SP2 and Mandrake Linux 10.1 Official realease and intending to install ubuntu linux, kubuntu linux, PCLinux and Windows Vista beta 2 after I finish all the downloads. That is a wooping 6 Operating Systems on one computer. You guys might say that I am the craziest computer user ever but, I've got my own personal reason for wanting it that way. I know that all these OSes would be gulping more that 30GB of my HD space and I dont want any lack of space in there so I am intending to remove the 3 HDD I've got in my PC and replace them with 200GB x2 and also intend increasing the system memory to 2GB. I believe that should solve my problem. Apart from these OSes, I also have a lot of ISO (standard ISO disc image file), BIN, NGR (Nero's default disc image) and many other softwares packed inside my hard Drives., You wouldnt blame me for wanting to go for the 200GB x2 HD space.

Hey guys, I have been playing DOOM 3 for quite some time now. Ok my progress thru the game have been very fast and I've been able to eliminate most of my enemies in there. My problem now is that with the stage called HELL, I have got to the place where I am supposed to kill the huge monster, SARIUS before I can then meet the guradian of the SOUL CUBE and that has now become a problem for me (that is, killing the deadly monster). I have utilized all the weapons I could lay my hands upon in the game and I have actually collected all the waepons I am suppposed to cillect in there. If there is anyone in here who is also a DOOM 3 player and who have managed to kill the monster, please help me out by telling me how you managed to kill it. I really need your help cos that has paused my game play. Thanks a lot for your anticipated help.

You are right there Hadi. One funny thing about laptops is that you cant add any other fans for extra cooling. My Desktop was once overheating cos there was not enough air ventilation within the case. The poblem then was that the computer was carrying so many drives that the internal cooling fans which came with the case couldnt withstand the heeting in there. There was 3 HDDs (80GB x2 + 40GB All Seagate Barracudas) plus one DVD-RW drive and 2 CD-RW drives. And apart from that, I am using an nVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 128MB w/TV out. Its GPU heats up real badly during game play and then, I also clocked my 2.40 GHz MMX Processor to 3.20 GHz. All these were too much for the fans. I solved my problem by first getting a small cooling fan for the Graphics card's GPU. That settled itsd overheating. Then I changed the case altogether another type which has more internal fans and a very good ventilation system. That solved my problem and since then, I havent ever excperienced the overheating again. Like Hadi said, I would say that you should try and sell your laptop and buy another one with more ventilation and moe cooling fans too.

Talking about depressions here. Well, I have been that way for quite some time now.I have a fiancee whom I really love and who really loves me back. Well, we have been planning on getting married for quite some time now. We have done everything to make that possible but there is always some problem for us here and there. We tackle this problem and up sprouts the next. Yea, I know that there can't be life without troubles and one ought to show how matured one is by the way he/she tackles his problems. One of our troubles is that her dad doesnt like me for some reason which I dont even know. Her mum really likes me and she doesnt mind me getting maried to her daughter. Well, thats one up for me though but I would want her dad to also like me too. I am just praying to God that he changes mind one day.I am really/quite depressed that we havent been able to achieve our dreams but I can onnly believe one thing, that "as far as I know and as far as is GOD whom I worship and serve, things will definitely get better for us and if GOD supports our marriage, nothing can stop it."Thats my lil' story.

Going thru the Ubuntu OS website and...men....what I saw there aint bad I must say. You know, I have alraedy registered and I am going to order for the free CDs and probably go for a download too.
