  1. The reason you get those wierd symbols is because Unix and Windows have different line delimiters. If you have a linux machine, you can use the dos2unix command to switch a windows delimited file to a unix delimited file. To do vica versa call unix2dos. Otherwise, you have to have a text editor that actually has some brains in order to realize that the delimiters are not from the native os. For my web development i use the Eclipse IDE with the PHP and HTML plugins. The reason is that it keeps the code color coded so its easy to see errors, you can work on multiple projects at once, there is a preview window, and it will mark all the lines that have errors in them on the fly so you can quickly fix them. Plus, it gives suggestions on how to fix the errors which is nice. Plus i do Java programming and i can do that at the same time if needed.

  2. Well i said i used my computer for programming but really all 3 of those topics are what i use my computer for. I use it to do my school work and take notes in class, i program websites for a side job, i write programs to do other things for class and entertainment, i listen to music, watch movies, etc. So basically i use my computer for anything and everything. Being a computer science student at college, i really am on my computer almost all day long. This does not mean im always sitting near it or typing on it. it just means a process or processes are running through out the day to accomplish my tasks.

  3. Overall the site looks great but there are few changes that should be made. First of all, make the sections on the front page aligned vertically together so they dont look so ackwardly lined up. This was the major pet peeve i have with the site. Besides that, I also would have links to my sections on the left hand side of the side above the new since thats where most people look for them. If they are only on top, some people might get confused and then leave and never come back. Overall, the graphics are really nice, loaded fine and look creative. The only change i would have with them is possiblity adding the horizontal and vertical orange lines to the image so that they dont look as out of place. Great job.

  4. The thing that i like best about college is the freedom. I love being able to go to the bar before and after class, able to stay up as late or early as i want, and be able to whatever i feel is the most efficient thing for my time. However, none of this means that I just have fun the whole time at college and dont do work cause i do way to much work. I like how i can budget my time the way i feel i can get the most out of it. Whether it means waking up early to do research for the first few hours of the day, then out to lunch with friends then class then research and homework again or any other situation, i just like being able to decide for mself. This is the best part of college besides maybe the friends. In college, everyone is an equal and u can have friends that you never could in high school. Everyone is sooo friendly and just want to enjoy themselves when they can.

  5. WoW is a very good game. Personally i prefer Everquest 2 which is similar in how it is played and everything and it too costs a monthly fee to play. However, these fees are absolutely necessary for games like this to be able to run. The amount of bandwidth they need each month, the number of high power servers, the developers, etc. all require lots of money to maintain. When a game like this is continuely being added on to and updated this take a large development team and lots of testing. That means more servers, etc. The typical $50 game only requires a person to play for less than a month before it become tedious and doesnt require much internet or additions once it is sold. If there wasnt the monthly fee, there wouldnt be a game. Plus, for $9 a month or something like that, it is equivalant to goign to the movies once and thats like 3 hrs of entertainment. Not hundreds so you really are getting a deal.

  6. Playing with a yo-yo is in no way a sport. A sport is easiest defined as an activity that requires god-given talent, lots of practice and physical activity. There is little to no physical activity in yo-yoing nor is there god-given talent. People just dont pick u a yo-yo and are good at it like football or basketball, etc.

  7. No matter what you do someone can trace your ip address even if you use proxies, etc. The thing is that these just make it much harder to do so. If the government or any other powerful agency wants your IP address, they will be able to get it since all the proxies make logs and track users through their system. You never can be completely anonamous but you can be close using software that has already been stated in this discussion.

  8. I use IE 7 and Firefox 2.0. My default is IE 7 since i do a ton of web design and i need my pages to look perfect in IE because it is the most used browser. Then i tend to adjust them so they look good in firefox as well. I used to use opera at one point and i did not find the need to test on all three since after the first two, the page looked fine in opera as well.

  9. Personally i like Intel over AMD. AMD has never been a chip maker that i really liked. Their processors are made more for low power consumption and less intense systems where as intel chips are better for business, more reliable, and tend to be more state of the art. Plus, i have never had an issue where intels have failed me. Hitman said intel sales drop once AMD releases their new processors but it has to do with which target market you look at. Intel still dominates the business world and AMD tends to focus more on the family market.

  10. You will have to go into your router and open port 80 and have it direct it to the ip address of your computer on the network. Then go to a website like dyndns.com (i think thats it) and get a free account so that you can get a free subdomain name that will direct users to your site. The reason you have to do this is that most ISP have dynamic dns servers which means your ip address changes. Sites like dyndns.com will automatically make sure your ip address is updated when it changes. Thus users of the website will never have to findout your new ip address every time they want to view your site.

  11. The reason you learn about topics that my not be relavent to you depending on what you are going to do in life is a very simple question with a simple answer. The more diverse your learning it, the more parts of the brain you are utilizing. The more you work you brain in different ways, the better you end up getting at handling different situations that may utilize that part of the brain. Plus, how would you know what you like doing if you dont try as much of it as possible. Even though you may not know the immediate purpose of something, it may come in handy in the future and you never will know. Like history for example will show you what as humans we have done right, what we have done wrong, and what we could have improved. This might spark a brilliant idea in which you could market, it will show you what should never be done / repeating because we already know the result, or it just could be something that allows you to win a contest. The more you learn, the better off you will be and the more well rounded you will be. These are traits schools and jobs look at because if you are the biggest nerd and only know 1 thing and are not personable, who will wnat to work with you? Life is about interactions and the more ways you are able to interact, the better off you will be.

  12. I post so that i can keep my website up and running for free. I host my personal site on Xisto because i dont have the resource nor the funds to host all of the website i work with on a domain with private hosting and so forth. However, in doing so i have become quite attached to the Xisto forum and those who use it. I love posting in it because not only do i get great advice about how i could improve my site but i get the oppertunity to learn about lots of new stories around the world that i otherwise would not be informed about.

  13. I definitely am a dog lover. They have been in my life since i can remember even though i have never owned one nor was i able to own one growing up. My mom is allergic to both cats and dogs so we never have had a pet really. However, my Aunt actually trains dogs in agility to compete around the world so i have always been around them when visiting all my family. I think the reason i love dogs sooo much more than cats are because they just are more obedient and always are with you. When i was really young, one of my aunt's dogs let me sleep on him as if he was my pillow for hours at a time and he didnt move at all. It was this companionship that really makes me love them. Since when would a cat let you sleep on it or even let you pet it for more than just a few minutes? never. They are too independent for me i guess.

  14. This is a hard question since 1 million dollars really is not that much any more but it is a significant amount. I mean, you can easily live the rest of your life off of 1 million dollars but at the same time would not be able to get anything and everything you ever wanted. Therefore, i probably would just invest half of the money in a well known company that has been around a while and pays a decent dividend while putting the other half into CD or other savings account that pays a good percentage on it since at 5%, the 500,000 would pay 25,000 each year which would make life a ton more comfortable especially if you make a similar amound on the dividend. You could live an ok life without working. However, i would definitely still hold my job and really save a ton of the money so i could retire at like 40 and just golf or something

  15. My favorite sport has to be hockey. I mean what other sport can you mess someone up and get in a fight while there is still action going on and it all be legal? Even though you didnt specify what i should tell if someone likes hockey, based on your other recommendations, i will do a similar breakdownFavorite Team in NHL: Philadelphia FlyersFavorite Player(s): Sami Kaponen and Simon Gagne

  16. Seriously just be your self. If you try to be someone else, she will know and even if you are good at hidding it, eventually it will come out that you are not you and this will make any sort of friendship / relationship end. Secondly, how do you know you are in love with her if you dont even really know her. I mean, you can think she is hot and want to get to know her but you definitely are not in love. Love is something that you feel once you know someone and know they are exactly what you want or need. It is something that you end up feeling once you understand their exact personality and what they truely stand for in all ways.As for getting to know her and meet her, all you have to do is ask her on a date or talk to her friends and hang out with all of them. If your friend is her friend, why dont you ask your friend to invite her along next time all of you hang out? It is always the easiest and most fun to get to know someone when you are in a comfortable situation and so are they. SInce she knows your friend, she will feel like she knows people and fits in and since you know her too, then you wont feel out of place and awckward.Good luck and even if it doesnt work out, its a learning experience that everyone has been through atleast once.

  17. The best way to increase the performance of your pc (vista or xp) is to go to pcstats.com and search for "99 ways to increase performance". This guide will speed up your computer in soooo many ways plus you can also look at their 101 ways to speed up XP also which includes smaller improvements. The guide will tell you how to increase download times, increase boot times using the registry and a tool called bootvis. It also will help with shutdown times by getting rid of the close program dialog when shutting down and also reducing the time in which windows waits to close a program.

  18. First of all, why would you want to be more popular? You are who you are and you should be happy with that. I was a popular kid through out high school and still in college but personally i would have prefered to not be in high school. The reason is simple, everyone is in your business and there is very little privacy. You might think that being popular means going out alot, knowing everyone, etc. but there is no difference between what popular people do and those who think they arent. It just is a different group of people that you hang out with and that is all. Be who you are, hangout with those who are similar to you because it will be more fun and you wont feel like you have to be fake, and enjoy the time in school. It goes way to fast to wish you were somewhere else with other people rather than just enjoying every minute of it.As for a suggestion to how to be popular if you dont like my advice about why it doesnt matter and all, then i would say just be outgoing, friendly and confident in yourself. Confidence is something anyone can see and it makes people be more comfortable with you and believe you know what life is all about. Even when you are not confident in a situation or about something, just make it seem like you are and people will notice it. Also, just saying hi to people and socializing about how their day is and all goes a long way. People like to talk and making conversation and then listening to them makes them feel like you care and that you want to be talking to them. This is a great way to get to know people and even learn if they are the kind of person you want to be friends with.
