Windows & Linux Pros And Cons Of Mac, Windows, And Linux I used to Dual boot Windows Vista (pre-installed) and Linux, but as of right now I just can't go back to Vista or Windows for that matter. I have a laptop with Onboard Intel Card, which is fully supported in Linux! One of the problems I had in XP was a wireless card on Desktop (Dlink 510G). Windows would drop the connection several times a day and was still saying I was connected (Lie!) After I got the card working in Linux using windows drivers through an emualtior, I had better signal, and the connection was NEVER dropped! This is very useful for me cause I often leave the computer running with a torrent client. I can't do this in Windows! (BTw, I used WPA encryption which is not supported by the D-link applicaiton) Then there is software. I really like Celestia (FOSS app, that I use on linux), I don't know / can't find Windows version. There are many other apps I use on Linux (Amarok, Dictionary, etc) that I don't have on Windows, or they are too cumbersome to install. In Linux I just go to Add/Remove and select what I want, then click OK and that's it! Plus, Windows has only one desktop and I just hate that I can't scroll (mouse wheel) on inactive windows in Windows. Also Vista has disabled the "Insert Key" where it replaces the text when you type. I am no fanatic, but I like to do stuff the way I like it, and Windows just annoys me. One alst thing, did you know you have to "hack XP registry" to get it to use your RAM properly if you have more than 1 GB??? By default XP will only use up to 1 GB of RAM unless an app like a game needs more, the rest is SWAPPED like crazy! -reply by Alex

What made me switch What Made You Switch To Linux? Probably like many of you I started using Linux out of curiosity and desire to learn. I know a lot of stuff about Windows, and I was never learning anything new. I had a few problems with the wireless (on windows) when the connection would drop out of the blue but Windows still said I was connected. I started with Ubuntu about a year ago and slowly learned how to get most out of it. I learned to appreciate the Synaptic Package Manager, so easy to re-move stuff. Also, the Add/Remove feature is God bless! There is alot of free software readily available for Linux, while the Windows one is bloated with junk! I simply couldn't return to Windows because it would be hard to find/install: a dictionary, a star simulator (so I can find the stars when I look at night), CD/DVD rip/write, codecs, Photo viwer (gThumb RULZ!), music player (Amarok is unbelievable!), and so on. I code in C/C++... In Windows I used Visual Studio or something, took a few Gigs on the HDD, on Linux I use Geany and it does the job very well, plus it's much easier to talk to the Geany developers and ask for help! Then there's the ease to work: multiple workspaces, you can scroll on inactive windows, all these things makes Windows at work a pain! Wine is great for SOME applications (uTorrent runs flawlessly!). In conclusion, I have more software easily available in Linux and much less hassle! True sometimes I stumble upon some problems, but posting a message on the ubuntu forums and they help right away. Also, there's virtually no limit to what you can learn, I like learning new stuff, if I stop learning I die! -Alex -reply by Alex

Reservation Rewards - Scam associated with Orbitz Reservation Rewards - A Scam! I had the same "scam" happen to me when I ordered some plane tickets on Orbitz, they automatically signed me up for a $12/mo membership. Instead of dealing with Reservation Rewards, I contacted my CC company to dispute the charges. They call RR to cancel my account and request a refund. -reply by Andy

Multiverse Can There Be More Than One Universe? Hi, I've fot the answer to that. MULTIVERSE. Why, you ask? Because "uni" means "only one." Therefore, you get the word "universe." However, "multi" means "more than one," hence the word "multiverse." Do you get the idea? You do? That's great(just a little humor, LOL:p)! But don't credit me with the idea. Thank the producers of the TV series TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES! They came up with this adventure called "The Battle Nexus"(which, by the way, according to the series, is a "world between worlds, between dimensions, even"). My brother has it on videocassette, but we haven't watched it in a long time. OMG, LOL, it's hard to believe that a kids' anime could be helpful, especially with complex subjects such as the universe(or miltiverse), time travel, wormholes, and all that "jazz." And what's even more surprising is that I'm only a teen, and I managed to figure all this out(with a little help from a kids' show). Freaky, huh? Dang, I'm such a NERD! Okay, 'NUFF SAID. THNX to every1 who reads and considers/agrees with this "lil' piece of 'info!'" -reply by Zutara4Life

Well I got Vista as soon as I could. I built a new gaming PC with the best components in it. I love Vista. I haven't had one problem and I'm on my computer at home at least 4 hours EVERYDAY. Someone hears one thing bad at the beggining and rumors start. People say it sucks and they don't even know why. Seriously... You're all losers. You just hear one thing and haven't even used it! You're all stuck on XP. Yeah, XP is nice, but Vista is better. It's a new upgraded program. It's gonna have bugs in it just like XP when it first came out, but that's what updates are for. They need OUR input to figure out if anything's wrong. It's just because it's new. That's where service packs come in. I'm sticking with my 64bit Vista. Love it. Haven't had any problems. Get in with the new. It's better.-reply by Anthony

So many of you people are pathetic. Yes, I aggree with the point that kids are very annoying when they're loud and running around. But they can't help it. They haven't been taught, or haven't had enough time to learn and fully understand the morals, ethics and accepted customs of society. They can't read the "please be quiet" sign in the library. But the kids that don't listen to their parent(s) when being told to be quiet are those kids that haven't been taught that their parents are in charge and know things for the better. So I say, do NOT blame the child, blame the parent. A kid will only ever be as bad as the person who raised them. They don't know how to tell right from wrong. So what if they are screaming for icecream. Yeah sure, it may be a major annoyance to others around them, but those people have no right to blame the child. No doubt, if the child is screaming the parent will be sitting there, like a sissy trying to calm the child by talking to it sweetly, making all kinds of promises and getting it icecream. That shows a spoilt child, and that is not the fault of the child itself, that is caused by the parent. If the parent were to turn around and say in a firm tone, be quiet or you wont get any icecream or something along the line, if the child has been taught thatwhen "mum" or "dad" speaks like that they're serious, then the child will be more likely to respond by being quiet and behaving properly. Parents should not take their children out anywhere where they can be a nuisance to other people if they are not positive that the child believes that they (the parent) are in charge. So to all those people who seem to think that children are spawn of the devil. Just remember that the child wll be the devil itself because that is the purpose of reproduction, to continue human life. Now grow up yourselves. (and to many of you, learn how to spell, and I'm sure zamaliphe is from a different country - and you do NOT realise how hard it is to learn english... Trust me, I know.) P.S - I'm 16, does that still make me a child? Because if it does, and I seem to know more than you who claim to be adults, you need to think about the kind of people you are. parents I Hate Parents. From experience, parents always get in your personal business and tell others, even if you ask them to stop, many say kids underappreciate theyre parents, but who are the ones that mow the lawn, front and back, take out the trash, then put the big garbage bens in front to get taken care of then put it back, pick up dog ****, feed the dogs, walk the dogs, Take care of dishes, and then who says they're tired of doing all the work around the house. Who are the ones that put on 400 miles on their bicycle cuz, parents are to busy, while playing video games themselves, or too tired, or gonna go somewhere, and when they do give us a ride, they act like we owe them our lives, sure they gave birth to us, can't they be humble about it though, and stop saying without us, you wouldn't be alive. -reply by north sider
