I had bought a windows xp home edition sp3 for a new computer build that I'm working on and I had another computer that is a dell that I use for school. Well it got a virus or something and windows xp was all screwed up, anyway I call Microsoft and ask them if I can obtain another product key because my dell got a virus and I had to wipe it to get it off and I had bought the cd but it was intended for my new build, and they just bluntly told me that I'm only allowed to install it on one computer so they wont give me another product key and they no longer distribute the product so if I want to install it on my broken down computer I had to buy a new OS? thats crap, I dished out over $100 for the damn cd and I cant install it to all of my computers? I'm done buying from Microsoft if thats the way they treat their customers (like a bunch of thieves). So I just installed Ubuntu on my dell and I gotta say dispite that many programs only work on windows I like Ubuntu much more because its free, and it looks and feels better than xp. I think if Microsoft keeps this up on all of their other products (both current and future) then they're going to start loosing many more customers to products made by linux and others. -reply by Christian

Like others here, I had no idea that I had agreed to pay any fees to Reservation Rewards. I thought that I was providing information in return for a discount on my next Ticketmaster.Ca purchase if I made it within 30 days. I called to complain and Reservation Rewards has promised me a refund of the $12. I totally blame Ticketmaster.Ca for setting me up to be taken by this scam. re; filmdesireTracking My Stolen LaptopThat sounds great, but what if the thief just changes out the network card?? That will change the MAC address right? Also will a MAC address show up on the web through a router? For instance, on my home network, the only mac address that shows up on the internet is my primary pc, or maybe even the router MAC number, not real sure about this. I have been told that computers behind a router, that do not connect directly to the internet, that there is no way to trace this. Plus they could have used software to change the MAC address , or just change out the wireless net card. I basically have been told unless I have tracking software on it that more than likely, I will never see my laptop again. And even if I had tracking software on it ...If it has been reformatted before it connected to the internet it would be useless. The only solid way I see to do this is to have something like a lowjack installed...Something that powers itself and is not reliant on the pc battery to work. I had my laptop stolen about 2 months ago and have been scouring the internet trying to figure out a way to trace it, with no luck yet. Microsoft told me they cannot stop a valid serial number from updating. And they could not, by law trace a serial number to a certain IP address. Live and learn I guess. booting Linux of a external.. it worksLinux On An External Hard DriveReplying to shadowxOk. I tried it.I boght a external closure and took a 80GB out of a crapy compter.Than on my other crapy computer I erased the whole drive . But did not formated it yet.I put in the Mandriva Xtreme 3 linux disk into the DVD-Ram Drive. From my crappy computer. Than booted thae disk.When I got to the intall part to install that partions that it is going to use. I clicked coustom partion install and than thier was a chose of HDD to pick from 'sda' which is the from the crapy computer and a 'sdb' which is the 80gb external drive.I selected that and than choosed to have a 16gb root and a 3gb swap. It formated that 20gb of the drive to have the linux on.When the bootloader is ready to be installed you choose to install the bootloader onto the external drive.Than after installion you reboot.When it turns on . I push 'esc' to tell the computer that I want to boot from a deffeint device. Than I select the external drive. Than it boot up linux. :)Right now I'm try to have a boot up on a mac. So far no good. But I boot up on a diffent computer than the computer I had the boot disk in.So ya you can boot linux of a external.You can even boot up Win Xp of it too.HArd drive is the brain of the computer.Just tell the computer what brain to think from.-reply by ZophtX

It does not support any sound recording features other than the microphone, no input jack and no mixer for recording what you hear thru the speakers. Also big problem getting it to see other systems on my network, still trying to achieve this.. No help from their support team. Everyone points at someone else... I dunno wht you guys hv for a box but my my laptop (2.4 GHZ core2 duo, 3.25 GB usable ram, 7400 rpm hard drive, 32 bit windows XP running limewire pro 5.2.13) doesn't hv resource or lag issues with limewire unless I am running multiple resource intensive apps (like a game running in the background). you would think that limewire's client wouldn't be as good as a dedicated client but I've been actually very impressed. I DL'd avatar last nite from http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ it was 1.11 GB and took abt 40 minutes @ between 580-680 kbps constant from between 108-115 peers (it did take prolly 7 min to get tht many peers and 600+ kbps) I ddnt test another client with tht particular file but usually a 1 gig movie takes me several hours (sometimes a day..Thts crazy). Even with bitcomet (which is def abt as fast as dedicated bit clients get) so I'm throwing in with what everyone is bashing and saying limewire seems to be the fastest. -reply by Ricky
