  1. I think i'd go for lasik in future. Glasses/contact lenses are expensive and troublesome and my eyes don't seem to adapt to contacts very well. Thanks for all the opinions in this thread. They will be useful when I make up my mind to go.
  2. My eyes get dry and itchy easily when I wear contact lenses so I wear Acuvue disposables (not very comfy under airconditioning when all the moisture is soaked up, might be fine outdoors). Quite expensive though since I have astigmatism
  3. I wish I had a bath tub! I only get to use a bath tub when I go overseas and I stay in hotels that have nice toilets and bath tubs. A good warm soak improves blood circulation and opens up your pores to intoxicate you. Hence, you are healthier, and you'll feel more comfortable physically and mentally too. I also like a hot shower, since I don't have a bath tub.
  4. I few sorry about your plight. I can't offer any advice about taking care of your mum or communicating with her. You'll have to be patient with her. It's frustrating when people can't understand what you are trying to express. Maybe you can develop some other way to communicate with her without using speech or fingers? It must be really difficult, but you're family, so good luck and hope you pull through.Finding a girlfriend will not hurt as long as she's not the demanding sort who needs a lot of your time. You may even be able to find comfort and happiness in a relationship. So good luck with finding a nice girl.
  5. This topic will be useful for lazy people (like me!) who do not like jogging, sports, working out in the gym and love eating. The following methods encourage you to make little movements that promote activity in your body daily and regularly without you having to sweat it out. Bear in mind, however, that it will have little effect on obese people and anyone who wants to lose a lot of weight quickly. Laugh aloud for 100 times daily. You will burn as much calories as rowing a canoe for 10 minutes would. Breathe deeply with your abdomen muscles: Take in deep breaths using your abdominal muscles. When you take in air, stick your abdomen out, and when you expire air, constrict your abdominal muscle (the opposite but usual way of breathing is the other way round, where your abdomen constricts when you breathe in and relaxes when you breathe out. If you are aiming to lose weight, use your abdomen muscles!) Persist for 10 to 15 seconds each time, which means 4 times in a minute. Get as much sleep as possible: Research from America has shown that women who sleep less than 5 hours daily put on weight more easily. (I'm not sure if this applies to men, but the fat composition of men is different from that of women) Simple Exercises to incorporate in your daily life: 1. Always choose the stairs instead of elevator or escalator. To have a firm butt, arch your foot and walk on tip toes when climbing stairs. 2. Keep your head and chest upright. When you are sitting at your office desk, remind yourself to stick your chest out and keep your abdomen in. You will be exercising your back and abdominal muscles and maintain a good posture. 3. Brisk walk. If you walk briskly for 30 minutes daily, you will be able to get rid of that annoying tummy effectively. Get a partner or dog to accompany you if you find it boring to walk alone. You can compete to make it fun. 4. Constrict the muscles in your butt. You can do this every day, as frequently as you like especially when you are sitting down. This will help to shape your butt. 5. If you take the bus, get down one or 2 stops earlier than your destination. In this way, you don't have to go out of your way to do any walking, and you save on bus fair. 6. Stand, not sit: For short distances on public transport, choose to stand so you can exercise your leg muscles. 7. If you have nothing to do over the weekends, go shopping or just meet your friends for a walk. Walk instead of drive. The key is to always ensure your body is moving so you don't accumulate fats and you can burn some calories!
  6. I get a lot of tips from magazines, television and radio programs, and of course, through word of mouth. Drinking water at night burdens your kidneys. At night, your body is supposed to be resting and repairing all the damaged cells and what-nots. So if you drink like one glass of water, your kidneys will have to spend the night working when they should have been resting. Notice that if you drink a lot of water at night, you end up needing the toilet in the middle of the night, or waking up with a full bladder in the morning, which are evidences that your kidneys have been working. It's all right to drink a little water to moisten your throat at night, but not too much.
  7. Other than infringement of privacy and other points that other people have stated, I believe all that charging, signaling and stuff may also result in some health damages. I don't know much about all this technological stuff, but I do believe that it may emit some form of infrared radiation, which, though may be insignificant in small amounts, could cause permanent damage when it gets built up over the years. If the device is carried externally, like a handphone with GPS, then that might be more feasible.
  8. I think I know what you mean. If I see anyone, not just my boyfriend, with ugly feet that comes with chipped nails, fungus etc, I would be turned off too. It's not a matter of appearance, but of hygiene and grooming. If someone can't take care of his feet, it just shows that he can't take care of himself. After all, it's not that hard to keep your feet nice looking. There's all sorts of treatments and preventions for warts, corns, enzema (however you spell it, but it's about dry peeling skin) in the market now. And I guess it's also not a nice feeling to see such a nice face and body and be rudely shocked by ugly feet.
  9. Glad you find it useful! Well, it doesn't have to be animal meat, though it's widely known to be rich in collagen. If you eat lots of vegetables and fruits it will do too because Vitamin C also aids in the production of collagen. You can also consume collagen tablets that can be found in pharmacies. Eating late at night isn't healthy either. It may cause indigestion and weight problems.
  10. They have also passed a law that forbids teachers to punish kids. And the kids get so brazen that they and their parents go lodging complaints right, left and center even though the teacher only gave a little scolding. No wonder kids are getting so spoilt these days. Abusing children verbally and physically is wrong, but a little punishment like a smack or a pinch doesn't cause any permanent damage.
  11. lol That description is found on the back of my book. I believe it is the official blurb used by the company that publishes it. The book is really awesome. My favorite. Very poetic writing style, and you can learn some things about Japan too. It is a beautiful book.
  12. Staying up late at night is damaging for the skin. Here are tips on how you can lessen and damage and maintain good skin even if you often stay up past midnight.1. Eat right for dinner/supper: Consuming food rich in vitamin C or collagen helps restore elasticity and luminity of the skin. Most animal skin (e.g. chicken, duck, pig) is rich in collagen, and most fruits contain Vitamin C. You may also consumer Vitamin C pills. Eat less spicy food and drink less alcohol.2. Keep your skin moisturised: Your skin becomes dry and flaky due to environmental factors, or when you don't take care of your skin. Leave the windows and doors open at night to allow proper ventilation. Fresh air helps to moisturize your skin. You can also apply moisturizing cream to your skin. Avoid taking in water orally because it is harmful to health to drink water too late at night.3. Do not wash your face late at night: Between 10.00 - 11.00 at night, the skin undergoes self-maintenance. Between this period of time and no later, you should cleanse your face and apply skin care products. Cleanse your face with warm water and facial soap and then apply moisturizer.4. Get rid of eye bags and dark circles: Drinking thick tea, coffee and alcohol easily results in dark pigmentation on your skin and around your eyes. Prepare a mixture of salt and cool water (the cooler the better). Use clean cotton sticks or cloth to dab the mixture and press it against your skin where the dark pigmentation are, for 3 to 5 minutes.
  13. Did you notice that Korean actresses always have virtually flawless skin and fair skin? The following information was compiled from magazine and website interviews of Korean Actresses' methods of keeping their skin fair and soft. 1. Lee Young Ae's Black Tea Mask How: Place Black Tea bag, brown sugar and water together into a mug, as though you are preparing a cup of tea. Boil the mixture and allow it to cool to 37 - 40 degrees celsius. Add flour into the mixture and stir until it is even. Apply the mixture to your face. Cleanse your face after 15 minutes. Why it works: Caffeine in black tea increases white pigmentation, while brown sugar moistens the skin. 2. Song Hye Kyo's Egg Whitening Cream How: Crack open a fresh, raw egg. Mix it with a teaspoon of honey. Before you sleep, apply it to your face and massage with your fingers for 10 minutes. After awhile when your skin no longer feels damp and sticky, cleanse your face. Do it twice for optimum results. Why it works: Egg white stimulates the skin cells, promotes blood circulation and effectively repairs damage to our skin. Egg-yolk contains rich lecithin, glycerin trinitrate fat and villetin, which are elements that many whitening products contain. 3. Choi Ji Woo's Pearl Power Treatment for Pearl-white skin How: Mix a pinch of pearl powder together with a a teaspoon of milk and honey. Add a little water if it is difficult to obtain a smooth mixture. Once the mixture is even, apply it to your face and massage for 20 minutes. Cleanse face after 20 minutes. 4. Kim Nam Joo's Mineral Water Moisturizers How: Place fresh mineral water in a small sprinkler bottle. Every now and then, you can take it out and spray it directly onto your face, and then clap your face gently with your hands. Why it works: Pure mineral weter contains silicic acid. While supplementing the skin's moisture content, silicic acid is being absorbed, which increases the skin elasticity, accelerates melanin (dark pigment) precipitation discharge and increases the skin's luminosity. 5. Jeon Ji Hyun's Hydrogen Peroxide Solution How: After washing your face, use a clean hankerchief or towel to dip into a bottle of 30% hydrogen peroxide solution to extract some of the solution. Gently wipe the hankerchief/towel over your face. Do this for 1 to 2 times a day, 3 - 5 minutes each time. If you do this for 7 to 10 days straight, you should see the effect. Why it works: Hydrogen peroxide solution is an ingredient present in many cosmetology products. However, bear in mind that it can irritate the skin if used excessively, so do not use more than necessary. 6. Kim Hee Sun's Watermelon How: Juice a fresh watermelon slice. After scraping away the watermelon flesh, use the watermelon skin to massge your face, with the inside of the skin against your face. Cleanse with water. Why it works: Drinking watermelon juice stimulates the absorption of water by the skin. Watermelon skin increases the metabolism rate of the skin. It can straigten out wrinkles and increases luminity and elasticity of the skin.
  14. I've used blogger on various counts to make websites. It's good even for advanced html users because it is very easily customized.
  15. It's quite neat looking. What are you going to use it for? Personally, I prefer brighter and more pastel colors, and greys don't really do much for me. But then, it really depends on what the theme for your website is. Also, maybe you can use more compact looking fonts like Arial or Verdana. Otherwise the whole effect can be a bit cluttered and overwhelming.
  16. Thanks for this useful article! I never knew (and never bothered to find out) exactly how P2P works. I only use it lol One of the few annoying things about p2p is that sometimes you end up never being able to download the whole file you want especially if it's a huge file, and it's far slower than downloading from regular file hosts.
  17. Good luck with it! But don't over-exert yourself, since your operation wasn't exactly a long time ago.
  18. I think being nice, pleasant and helpful would help yourself score more points. But don't be insincere or hypocritical. Also, what's wrong with being with dorks? In my opinion, being discriminating is already a huge turn-off. Nobody likes to be friends with people who can't appreciate them for who they are. Friends are people you love being around with and who can share your problems, not displays for you to flaunt. Having a few real friends is far better than having a ton of so-called friends who are only good for chalking up numbers.
  19. It sounds like you are losing concentration and getting distracted easily. You might consider forming a study group with your peers or joining a study group. Your peers might be able to keep an eye on you especially if you start doing things like taking things apart and creating distraction to disturb their peace :POr you can set aside something to look forward to. Example, if you finish your homework in 1 hour instead of 2 hours due to procrastination, you will have an extra hour to go out, watch telly or give yourself other treats.Try to work in an environment with as less sources of distraction as possible. Only keep the things you need for homework with you.
  20. You sound pretty normal to me, and you'll probably live to a ripe old life since you seem to have no problem keeping calm and happy. Don't try to look for more ways to feel anger or make yourself agree. Most people are doing the opposite, so be thankful of your lifestyle. As Carson says, there is no way to describe a 'normal person'. As long as you feel genuinely and at ease with yourself, then you are fine. You are only suppressing anger if something makes you upset but you refuse to acknowledge it or speak up about it.
  21. I'm a great fan of Sophie Kinsella's books. She is famous for her chicklit Shoppaholic series. Her writing style is humorous and informal, which makes it very engaging. So engaging that I am tempted to start shopping each time Rebecca Bloomwood splurges on something :PIn Kinsella's stories, the protagonist often hits a very bad spot in life, but climbs back with the help of friends, family, but mostly with her own resourcefulness, resilience and determination. Hence, they not only make entertaining reads, but are also very inspirational and encouraging.Books by Sophie Kinsella:Confessions of a ShoppaholicShoppaholic Takes ManhattenShoppaholic Ties the KnotShoppaholic and Sister (My favorite!)Shoppaholic and BabyDomestic GoddessCan You Keep a Secret?
  22. I love Dan Brown's books, but his plots are always following the same formula, and eventually, when you get used to his writing style, you figure out the ultimate villain easily from the beginning of the story. However, the fun lies in reading about the process and explaination for the villain's actions.
  23. I liked Angels and Demons most out of Dan Brown's books. The many twists and turns make me keep wanting to read on, and I also learnt some new things about art!
  24. Ratatouille is an awesome movie! It has great entertainment value because of witty humor, great visual effects and amazing voice-overs that bring the characters to life. I love the voice-over for Collette. Her French accent and crisp and sometimes aggressive method of speaking really engages me to her character. I was fortunate because the movies in my country come with subtitles, so her fast speaking wasn't too much of a problem. There is also education value in it. It teaches us to value love, friendship and family. Of course, it also tells us that no matter how lowly our background is, we are all capable of great things if we put our hearts and minds to it. This movie is certainly highly recommended. I've watched it twice in the theaters, and I wouldn't mind watching it again.Oh and I simply adore 'Lifted'! Everyone was laughing when it was screened. I hope it gets made into a full animation movie.
  25. I don't believe all Atheists or all Christians preach. It is only a handful who have nothing better to do and hold very extreme views. I'm neither Atheist or Christian, but I respect Atheism and Christianity. I only despise the people (not the religion) who pester others to take on the same beliefs as themselves. They are just being pests and turning people away from their own beliefs.
