Help Desk Professional professional helpdesk
linekill replied to raintearz's topic in Web Hosting Support
Thank you for calling, _____. My name is _____. How may I help you? (This is the most common script. Opening spiel is very important so it has to sound perky but still formal. This is a tough question. You will have to ask for information to pull-up some of the manager's records. If you're the help desk, you should have a list of managers or accoutns/clients which could aid you hasten the support process. Emphatize with the manager. Say something like "I understand how frustrating it must be to not be able to print those important documents. Let's work together to get it working again. To get us started, I'll be asking some questions so we can figure out what's the real cause." Never say negative words like "don't" "can't". And control your tone. Say words like this loud and clear. Empathy statements create impression that you are on the same shoe as the client. Make it brief though. Use "Us" "We" to create an impression that both of you will be working. Never use "I" and "You" when you're giving procedures. Close-ended questions are answerable by Yes or No or a specific answer (e.g. Name, Phone Number, OS, etc.) a ) What is the model number of the printer? b ) What is the operating system of the computer where the printer is connected to? c ) Do you see any error message when you try to print? What does the message say? Open-ended questions are questions that aren't answerable by Yes or No or any specific answer. a) What have you tried so far to get it to work? What do you think may have lead the printer to ask this way? -
I think it's possible for life to exist beyond our solar system. As for intelligent life, I have some doubts and if there is, it might have already exist millions of years ago or will exist millions of years ahead. These are questions that will take several lifetimes to answer. I hope they'll be more intelligent that we are. They'll visit us and teach us what they know. I don't believe an intelligent extra-terrestrial civilization would want to conquer us and destroy earth, as dumb as we might be to them, we're still a 1 in a trillions of trillions of possibilities. According to physicists, there are 11 dimensions..4 of which we can perceive.. 1. Up and Down 2. Left and Right 3. Forward and Backward 4. Time. The other 7 are so small we can don't feel their presence. If by dimension you're referring to other universes, a new Physics theory suggests the existence of other universes just right beside our own, this is M-theory. Which makes the space not the "new frontier" anymore. The other dimensions are now the new frontier. Anything is now possible. We may just not live to see any of them. Don't worry, we're all crazy that makes everyone of us normal.

Great posts and thoughts on Quantum Theory. Specially shadowx's. What I understand of Quantum Theory is that it says that every particle in the universe is quantized. And it marked the end of Causality, there are no cause and effect. Observation varies depending on the observer. And of course, the uncertainty principle's "You can't predict or Know everything." I hope to see a thread about String Theory and M-Theory. Now, that's something recent..

From what I understand, you can't install Windows on a flash drive. Some Linux distro's will allow you to but not on Windows.. -
My all-time favorite books are: S is for Space by Ray Bradbury: An insanely wicked collection of short stories by Ray Bradbury..from sci-fi to fantasy.. actually, most are sci-fi's and has a 50's feel to them...same genre as the stories of Twilight Zone..Wheel of Time: Great book for high-fantasy lovers...Seven Ideas That Shook the Universe: A discussion about 7 seven scientific breakthroughs that changed the way we look at our universe. I hope they release a new version of it... Eight Ideas That Shook the Universe which will include M-Theory.. More books but these are my top 3..

Desgin Websites For Multiple Browsers
linekill replied to no9t9's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I agree with SynapticFlame.. The best way to minimize browser problems with your website is knowing who visits your site and what browser they use. I get to solve browser problem is keeping the design simple and following web standards because that's where everything is going.. by following standards like W3C's, you're making your site future-proof..and you'll learn a lot..The greatest advice I got with regards to web design. Use a text editor and manually code the website's design to your specification. -
All I do to promote my site is visit someone's blog..browse through it and post a comment...if you keep on doing it, you'll definitely earn backlinks..Posting quality contents will definitely boost your site's traffic..but if you're not a writer yourself...try visiting websites that offer free articles you can use...all they will ask you to do is post the article as it is and include the "About The Author". It's fairly easy..just make sure that the articles you'll be posting is related to your site. like posting articles about anime if your site is about anime..and such..Well..Good Luck

All CMS will definitely allow you to Edit/Add/Delete Pages and they also have RSS implementation as rejected said..What makes each CMS unique is how they implement those basic functions.. Some will give you drag and drop options while other will require you to manually add some code to further the functionalities of your website..Have you tried using CMS before? I personnaly use ModX CMS... there is a slight learning curve but once you get the hang of it..it will be easy and you got full control of the design which I am happy coz I can barely design a website so all I do is port free themes online and tweak them to my need...

How many of you are using Adsense at ur site? Post Comments
linekill replied to ravi's topic in Search Engines
I've been using adsense for more than 2 years now and I get AT MOST $10/month which is really low. But it does pay for the site's hosting...it still is small though compared to some people earning at least 100 per month. To increase earnings, I've tried different ad placements and all the necessary actions recommended by high-earners. but the key to earning more with adsense isn't ad placement but quality content and traffic. I'm still trying to get more traffic..hopefully I'll earn $50/month.I figured that surfers are now better oriented with online advertising..Before, more people might mistake an Ad as a "real link" but now, they'll easily figure out which is which.well..maybe.. -

Correct me if I'm wrong..here's a network diagram I pictured base on the set up you want..ISP--------Modem------PC ))) ICS (((Phone..ICS - Internet Connection Sharing. It's not available with Win7 but you can still set it up using Ad Hoc Networking...I may be able to help you but are you using a Windows 7 Starter or Home Premium.. If it's Home Premium, it will be easier since Win7 Starter is said to not allow Ad Hoc Networking...(Though someone found a way to enable it..)But here's a quick guide you can try: 1. Start > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center2. Under "Change Your Network Settings", Click "Set up a new connection or network."3. On the "Choose a connection option" box, select "Set up a wireless adhoc (computer-to-computer) network". 4. Click Next and fill in the necessary information a. Network Name - Name of your own network b. Security Type: Select WEP (Not as secured as WPA/WPA2 but will work with almost all wireless devices. I recommend this because HDC HD's spec doesn't say about specific security type support. c. Security Key: Enter a 10-digit Code (Your will be wireless password. Use number or you may include letters A to F as WEP uses Hexadecimals (0-9 and A-F)..5. Next > Close.6. Search for wireless networks on your HTC..It should detect your Network Name.. Try connecting to it...You might run into new problems..post it here.

Embedding Javascipt Into Wordpress Posts
linekill replied to Nelson Blogs's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm not that familiar with WordPress but I did use it before.. If you want to embed a JS on a single post, why not create a copy of theme..say you have a Page.ph, copy it and create a Page2.ph and use it as a template of that single page where you want the JS to appear...and put the Javascript on the Page2.ph file.. This is the only answer I can think of so far...Will post for new idea.. -

While watching Resident Evil: Extinction, a trailer of The Golden Compass was shown. It looks interesting. Another trilogy, I believe, from New Line Cinema. And this movie comes with a huge budget of $205M. I am yet to watch this movie. The stars are: Dakota Blue Richards - Lyra (the lead character)Nicole Kidman (cold mountain & the hours) - MarisaEva Green (kingdom of heaven) - SerafinaDaniel Craig (casino royal)- Lord Asriel. Has anyone of you hear read the book? Share something about this movie. (I'd want to Google it but it's best to hear it from someone on the forum.)

I guess it's just a reality that most empires (well, we still have to wait for China to fall) will have to fall, someday, one way or the other. When you have eaten most of the world, what's left to eat than yourself? It's true for most empires. Egypt Empire, British Empire, Rome, etc. Each have their own specific reasons but somehow, the old ways fell and the empire crumble. Ozymandias.

Talk About Favorite Online Games GunBound is a free, multiplayer game
linekill replied to gunbound's topic in Computer Gaming
I'm a Ragnarok addict. Been playing the game for almost 5 years and it still excites me. The sprite are little to childish but its the gameplay that matters, and it really is great. I've tried other online games and the only other game that got me hooked is Tantra Online. It's best to Indian Civilization. I'm not sure if it really does reflect the real Indian beliefs but I guess they tried hard to make it as near to the truth as possible. The game is full 3D and the character design is great. The gameplay is not that deepor complicated as ragnarok or RF (Rising Force) but it's simple enough to be lovable and addictive.
