man, computer admins at schools are NOT technicians. They just run around unplugging cables and plugging them back in...One time I remember when one Computer Technician said that he "Re-formatted the CPU" I mean come on! You can;'t reformat the CPU!He also said that he "Needed to 're-align' the jumpers" WTH was that? Re-align the JUMPERS!Anyhoo... many computer technicians don't knwo what they are doing. Prove them wrong!

oh, and here's a bit more info...Red Alert 3 will feature a co-op campaign, those people who don't want to play with their friends (or more likely don't have any friends) can choose from a range of different AI generals that all have different personalities. Also not only will it have the Allied and Soviet factions but also an unidentified faction (why does EA have to make every game they are making to THREE FACTIONS!).I just hope that it ain't no 'Rebellion' or 'Pact that disagrees with the allies or soviets' or even 'bounty hunters' but I do HOPE that it is yuri or something like him.Anyhoo...I just hope that EA is going to make this game AS GOOD AS Red Alert 2. I also HOPE that EA will not make this game with a really bad storyline that doesn't have anything to do with RA2 or Yuri's revenge.

I just got confirmation. We don't know the size of the enemy forces but all indications indicate of a massive assault on all Allied Headquarters throughout the world... How? Why, doesn't really matter now... What does matter is that from this point on, the Third Soviet Uprising has begun! *Hellmarch 2 begins* Ok, The Red Alert 3 beta has been announced. To get in you will have to purchase a copy of the upcoming C&C3: Tiberium Wars: Kane's Wrath. Only participating countries will be participating. So go to http://www.commandandconquer.com/ and go see for yourself!

we already have SPACESHIPS. We have space shuttles, rockets etc etc.We won't have twin plasma engines, but Twin Ion Engines (Yes we'd be making TIE Cruisers).X-Ray scanners will be completely necessary! 3D Gammatrons (Not sure how to spell it) would be what we need. Also Radar that calculates positions using by triangulating. 16-Inch Plasma cannons won't be necessary! All we'd be needing are Railguns! Yes Railguns! Along with RAILGUNS, we would have MAC (magnetic acceration cannons), Gauss weapons, and coilguns. We have bedrooms, bathrooms, although no kitchen (they have a thing called 'cupboards')Why would we need such a thing as titanium? and even more, why would we need wings? I say we make the ship out of carbon nanotubes!

get MAC if you are a graphics designer, otherwise use Vista. But considering that you program then use Windows XP, your programs won't be guaranteed to work on Vista unless you are really good. For video editing, I would personally use Windows XP (Windows Vista uses up too much RAM) and with MAC you are stuck with 'MAC' video editing programs (which aren't numerous).I recommend the Macbook Air IF you like style and want to travel in style, otherwise get a desktop. Macbook Pros are not worth your money so I would not get them. So, for maximum effect, I would recommend a Windows XP desktop.

oh thank you so much jlhaslip! Now I need some other help with CSS... because the height and width attributes aren't valid in XHTML 1.0 Strict and the CSS alternatives are height:x; and width:x; but for some reason when I try to use the CSS ones it doesn't work but when I use the non-valid XHTML tags it does work... <td colspan="4" style="background: url(images/sg_12_02.jpg);" width="241" height="9"> is one piece of code that will not work if I do this <td colspan="4" style="background: url(images/sg_12_02.jpg); width:241; height:9;"> So what should I do? is there any mistake I made? or what?

Ok, so i'm making another website. But I have run into a problem! Transforming XHTML code from Transitional to Strict isn't very easy, and what's worse? The original code had over 100 validation errors. I have managed to reduced that number to 6 errors. Ok, so the main problem is... After I fiddled around with the CSS code and managed to take away the leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" code from the <body> tag and put them in CSS as body { margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px;} but the code seems to have problems keeping borders at bay... so now I have white borders surrounding every little table and picture! so what would fix this? I would really want to stay within the XHTML Strict rules. So help?... Anyone?

Feedback Needed Please On My Website its not complete yet.
csp4.0 replied to sonesay's topic in Websites and Web Designing
hmm... Very nice site, god layout, design, and the contrast is very good. I like it how you put in a DOCTYPE, and no validation errors. So, Very good site. Just one problem, the pictures and some text are 'squashed together' indicating that you almost purely built this site on a very high resolution. The pictures are also a bit squashed, considering that most people have 1024x800, or 1280x1024 resolutions, you might want to 'optimize for web' or if your site is targeted at hardcore gamers and computer enthusiasts whose resolutions are almost guaranteed to be over 1920x1200. But considering that most people's resolutions are 1280x1024 I would optimize it for that resolution.Wonderful site! -
Artificial Intelligence Is it ethical?
csp4.0 replied to devin_love3's topic in Science and Technology
Well, aren't the scientists supposed to be saving us from doom, and not trying to doom us all? Creating artificial intelligences that can actually learn is one of the steps to doom us all! Machines strive on efficiency, and because we are not efficient (we require food, we create waste, we rebel, commit murder for no reason etc) The Intelligence will deem us unfit to live and DOOM us ALL! Just like the apocalyptic nature of Terminator or Battlestar Galactica. I think that scientists should stop trying to develop advanced artificial intelligences and work more on getting us into space. -
The iris scanner can and might be used as a 'assassination device' all the assailant has to do is change the scanner so that the laser can actually burn-out someone's eye. It would be a fun feature to have though. What's next DNA scanner?

I just don't get why people uder-age can drink like that! I think that they have a extremely weak will and would succumb to peer-pressure and would do almost anything to be at the 'top' of the school's 'popularity list'.People drink like 5-10 bottles of beer just because 'everyone else is doin' it'. Those people should really know when to stop. They are still children, they do what they can to fit in with other people, and they do it because they think it is 'cool'. But they never think of the consequences. They should know that binge drinking can slowly turn you into the opposite gender, and they should know that it is more addictive than they think it is.Most people go, "I'll just drink one bottle and that's it" before they know it they've already drunk 5 bottles and are drunk before they drink even more! It's like eating salmon, the first time it tastes a bit 'too oily' but the second time it tastes pretty nice, the third time they like it very much. But beer is ten times worse. Here's a message for those under-age and adult binge drinkers, would you drink 5 bottles of liquid nicotine? If not, then treat beer as liquid nicotine and STOP DRINKING SO MUCH!

I don't hate windows vista, but I dislike it... Its minimum system requirements are too high for a 'mainstream' operating system. It also has a lot of extremely unnecessary software built inside it which takes up a lot more RAM and CPU usage than it really needs... I also think that Vista's Aero and sidebar takes up too much RAM, heck I would rather have the sidebar have less of a 'crystal' look and use less RAM.

maybe avideo of you singing it? Or maybe something like the song's tune? The Lyrics looks very good and I can tell that you probably spent a lot of time on it, Good Work!

hmm... looks like a good time to take it to payam hard drive repairs. But are you sure its broken? I don't want to spend AU$100 on extracting the data on it only to find that there was a problem with the drivers. It doesn't matter when I plug it in, it would make the computer insanely slow. And it would freeze windows indefinitely unless i unplug the device...I might go see what I can do on Windows Vista before I take it to payam...

Fantastico is very disappointing... I use phpBB3, SMF isn't very good and IPB is too expensive...Otherwise I use file manager, the e-mail feature and the cgi-centre!

I have a Sony VAIO 100GB External Hard drive that has recently been acting up. I got it from eBay about 8 months ago. Yesterday I accidentally pulled the plug on it and I accidentally used windows vista (which currently has no anti-virus program).Today when I turned on the computer it said 'Unable to write to disk, please make sure that the device is plugged in' I did the 'safely remove hardware' thing, but then the computer became really slow... So I waited and waited... for 6 minutes, then I waited long enough and pulled the plug. I tried to restart the computer with the hard drive plugged in but just after the Windows XP loading screen the computer freezes, when I remove the External Hard drive Windows XP continues and I plug it in again, I log on but the moment the log on tune plays Windows freezes, I disconnect the external hard drive and windows resumes. What's worse? Whenever windows loads and everything is ready, I plug in the external hard drive and everything becomes insanely slow, and most of the time it will not respond. I use task manager and see that disk usage is on around 5% and CPU usage is around 2% so I just don't get it... I try to close task manager but it won't respond either. The only option is to disconnect the hard drive and everything is normal again! It might be a virus (because vista (without any AV programs) was used) but this has happened before but not nearly as severe. All I needed to do was restart the computer with the external hard drive plugged in and that's it.This still happens in safe mode. I can do nothing that will help. I can't just through the disk away because it has a lot of data that I need. So please people on Xisto, please help me!

I thought this was a java tutorial too! Remember, Javascript and Java are nothing alike, it is like comparing caught and court! But anyway, you should remove the bb-code tags. Also you should put in a 'Doctype' but since there isn't a 'script language' tag, I am automatically assuming that this is XHTML 1.0 Strict. I can't find any other mistake other than the bb-code tags (not really a problem though)

seventy-five miles, heh? Well, I can tell you that that isn't the longest beach in the world...90-Mile Beach in North Island of New Zealand is 90 miles so thats 15 miles longer. I'm sure that there must be longer beaches, but that is all I know of. 90-Mile beach is only 90 miles if you walk it (takes hell-of-a-long-time) but if you drive it is only 65-miles...At the end is 'Cape Reinga' the northernmost tip if New Zealand. Been there one time, and I would gladly go there again...

oh, thanks so much! I never had any idea that there was an 'options' menu on the topic thing. My first idea was to go to control panel, but couldn't find it. So I too think it should be in control panel. Anyways, many thanks...
-
I have gone through any options related to this in my control panel, but it still is here!So my question is... how do you remove that 'posts in topic' thing. I would really like to read other people's post without wasting a lot of time, because i normally go on Xisto in my free time and I don't have much free time anyway. I am a bit less active on Xisto just because of that, for me, it is a deterrent for posting. I apologize if I have insulted any of the admins/mods that installed this feature to save bandwidth or something, but can there atleast be an option to turn it off? please?

What Is Your Technique For Waking Up Out Of A Dream?
csp4.0 replied to GrinningKittie's topic in General Discussion
I can't come forcefully out of a dream! It just doesn't work. By the time I realize that the i am dreaming, the dream is already over. The only remedy is to prevent dreams in the first place. Sleep in a warm bed. Keep the room quiet (but not too quiet so you're subconscious become paranoid) and sleep... -
Do You Dream In Black & White Or Color?
csp4.0 replied to GrinningKittie's topic in General Discussion
I sometimes dream in colour, but I dream in black and white much more often. I have no idea why I dream in black and white more often. I do seem to find the black and white dreams to be a lot less 'nightmare-ish' than coloured dreams. -
Opening Hyperlink In New Window Using Xhtml 1.0 Strict
csp4.0 replied to csp4.0's topic in Programming
The reason I don't want to use javascript is the fact that I am using a redirection service (http://www.freedomain.pro/) and it requires that I put a picture linking back. I can't modify the code so that is why I want a CSS code that opens the normal anchor tags in a new window and manually putting the nostyle tags in the ones I don't want to open to a new window. But now that I think about it. There doesn't look like a way to do it in the original way, so I guess that the javascript way is the only way. Or I might just 'cheat' and write my own DTD... hehe -
My website (currently under construction) is all going well until I realized that the XHTML 1.0 Strict DTD does not allow the target="_blank" attribute. How would I find a way around this? I'm used to using XHTML 1.0 Transitional, but I want this website to be Strict for a change.I would really like it if someone here at Xisto can give me some css that allows them to be opened in a new window. I have searched on Google and only found ways that include writing my own DTD (which I don't want to do), use javascript, and use another doctype. All of those things, I don't want to use. So it would really help if there is any way at all to open up a new window using CSS.
