  1. oops! missed that! i thot he said it was a DVD-R that he wanted to change to a DVD-RW. But i have been able to flash my Lite-on DVD-RW from single to double layer even though not technically supported. ---but i realize this is a whole different thing. yeah, then we'd take cd-roms for $15 and transform them into CD-RWs.

    Dvd Decoders

a perfectly legal program to own is DVD Idle.that can play all regions, all protected DVDs.a very worthwhile program to own.but if you can't even play your originals, something else is wrong, i think.do you have the proper codecs installed, ASPI layer, (that was a problem on one old drive i had), or it's not installed properly?
  3. from what i've heard, it sports a pretty nice-sized storage drive.
  4. i'm needing to set up a DSL modem, to which the computers connect through a router. all the computers are running winXP. is it possible to configure only certain computers to be allowed to access the internet, with password prompt? how so, or where can i find a tutorial on this?

    Need Free Ftp Client

i use Filezilla and have never had any problems with it. Total Commander, on the other hand, though i love the program as an explorer replacement, always hangs on me when i try to connect and upload through FTP. it'll do the first fle, and then especially on multiple files, it just freezes.
  6. i don't think longhorn could possibly ship without bugs. every OS they've shipped so far has had countless patches, fixes, alerts, etc. what's to say longhorn will be any different?
  7. google for firmware hacks for your DVD model number.
  8. well, i'd keep it to people. in which case, i would like to be Henri Charriere. Not that he had an easy time in life, far from it. But he's my role model, a perfect example of never giving up, fighting to achieve your goals, and all the while keeping a positive attitude. For those of you who don't recognize the name, there's a movie & a book by the name of "Papillon". I definitely recommed the unabridged version of the book.
  9. i've had both situations. power surges that fried the hard disk boot sector, and viruses that destroyed the boot part of my hard disk.
  10. alot depends on what the market demand is where you are. You're in Spain, right? so definitely it would command a higher price than in the states, for example. Acer isn't one of the higher priced laptops, and devalues pretty fast. it's a wild guess, but i would say around 600-700 euro. depending on how much secondhand laptops are in demand there, it could be less or more.
  11. If you're not able to boot from either CD or floppy, could be that your BIOS is messed up, or a virus. try putting it in your old computer as a slave, and reformat.
  12. I like the Toyota Supra, Nissan Skyline GTR3, Mazda Mx5, and the Honda Civic--the 2003 model. All highly modifiable cars. then if i had to choose one without mods, i would like a BMW 850. absolutely the classiest BMW ever. but hard to find.
  13. it wouldn't be the first time a brand-new hard drive decides to quit. i would suggest to piggyback that hard drive on another computer, save the stuff you need on the host, and then reformat the drive. then see if it still causes problems. at least this way it safe rather than sorry, and you won't run the risk of losing your files.
  14. i'm sorry, but how can you term their capture of Saddam, and their takover of Iraq, for that matter, effective? it was anything but! is there peace in Iraq now that Saddam is gone? the country is in a worse state than it was before, and there's no quick end in sight. as per oil prices, since when has the price of oil gone up? since the invasion. this whole war was simply about cheap oil for america. one of the underlying reasons bush attacked Saddam was because he insisted on payments in euros instead of dollars, and with the american economy in shambles, it couldn't take any more pressure without a collapse. let's rather wait for some soldier who's been to Iraq to give an opinion on whether the war was as necessary as Bush insisted.

    I Hate Noobs

well i am a noob in lots of areas, and more advanced in others, and i bet we all have some spot where we fall into that category. what i do think is irritating, is when a newbie thinks they know what they're talking about. it's one thing if you know nothing & are asking for help, but to try to impress ppl on a subject you know nothing about is what gets 2 me.
  16. how is that? anyways, i agree with most ppl here. #4 definitely is the best of them. i'll leave it to the pros to make constructive criticisms. i'm a little too new at sigs to offer helpful advice.
  17. i own an Ati 9200 (old by now) that has never given me problems. instead i find the old Nvidia cards to be extremely slow. they're stable, but the frustratingly slow processing is something i would rather do without. i'd pick Ati over Nvidia.
  18. what i've done is put together a pentium 2 from spare parts i had laying around, and set that one up as my downloader. so when i want to get P2P stuff, etc, i just hook that one up. then burn downloads to cd and transfer to my work computer. so far it's worked.
  19. i use dreamweaver all the time for coding my websites. i like the program alot and haven't found anything that makes me want to give it up in exchange for.i like the WYSIWYG interface, and then when i want to see code it's only a click away.basically the only other macromedia app i use is freehand, but i've got version 10. i tried MX but for me it was along the lines of a lot of people's experiences with photoshop CS2....bloated and not working as well as the previous version.
  20. i hate most classical music. there's a few though that i really like. one i know, is from Tchaikovsky. hall of the mountain king, i think. then there's another one, but since i know practically nothing about classical music i can't remember what's the name. i know the piece is in Walt Disney's Animals are Beautiful People, at the part where the baboons are rolling down the hill. if anyone has that in mind, and can remember the name, i'd like to know what it's called.
  21. absolutely lovely, but aside from the lights and bodywork, what's the engine like?
  22. my downloads can be restarted in firefox. but i find it slow. so i use download accelerator plus with firefox. it doesn't work to be integrated, but i have the download basket window, and drag & drop the links in there, and then i have speed and resumability at my fingertips. i generally back up a bunch of stuff to download in DAP, and then set it all to go at a time when i'm not using the computer, to free up bandwidth when i'm browsing.
  23. awww man i can't wait to get my hands on it! Need 4 Speed, especially from hot pursuit 2 onwards to underground, has got to be the all-time best racing game. it's probably gonna need an awesome computer to run properly. SOB! my baby most likely won't play it.
  24. yeah i've had my XP crash on me after applying updates. though i'm inclined to think it had something to do with the hard disk also, and not just the software. i've got a toshiba hard disk that has given me irritation after irritation. i can't do anything with it, like multiple boots, or it crashes. one more reason to hate toshiba. Neways after installing SP2 i had several BSODs but after 4 reboots it kicked into gear, and since then i haven't had any problems.
  25. i've had several trojans slip past the XP firewall. it's alright, but not heavy-duty enough to catch all the weasels.
