  1. is that a question phrased as: "what if they never had existed?" or "what if all of a sudden they disappeared?"
  2. i think popups are simply there to annoy people. a banner is one thing, but a pop-up, especially the kind that take up half the page as in yahoo geocities, they really make you want to shoot someone. thanks to firefox i haven't had hardly any popups annoying me. IE was a popup nightmare. and then you'd hit these nasty ones that would open up 40 or 50 windows and wouldn't let you close them, so you had to kill the whole set of IE processes. aaaahhhh! Thank God Firefox came along!
  3. man, use photoshop for your design, take it into imageready and create the html, and fix it up in dreamweaver. there you have it as simple as you could ask for. CSS is great, but in the interim while you're poking around figuring out what works and what doesn't, just use plain html.
  4. way to go! i all-out recommend Dreamweaver, especially the MX version. take your pick of code or graphic, or both. fixes mistakes, robust, easy to work with that & other macromedia appz, flash, fireworks, etc. I use it generally at 50-50 as i like to see the code, but i'm not yet capable of working strictly in code. i do better with a bit of visual.
  5. i have 5 best friends, who i know i can tell absolutely anything to, who aren't around only in the sunshine. then good friends, i've probably got 20 or 30, not ones i'd tell my most intimate details to, but ones who i know very well, and who've never slighted me when my back is turned.
  6. yeah i wonder how many times they actually sued someone. booting you off the site is most likely all that'd happen. plus wouldn't this go for paid hosts as well? say you or someone who hacks through you site ends up costing them a million bucks, they'd sue you too.
  7. Hey Spathi i feel sorry for you. Just as there is a great and a nasty side to public school, there's a great and, in your case, a bad side to homeschooling as well.well i was homeschooled as well, in fact, me and my 7 siblings are all homeschooled, and, to the credit of my parents, i can say there was never a dull moment in our schooling. we've all taken grade equivalency tests, and scored several grades higher than we should have. i think my homeschooled life gave me a jumpstart, and through learning from that, and studying afterwards from manuals, i'm now quite proficient in graphics & design, woodworking, culinary arts, electronic repair, & motor repair---to name some of them. my brother, with no other schooling than home schooling to a high-school level, has come out in the top 5 of hundreds of applicants for a scholarship to some high-level IT stuff..unfortunately, that's not one of my talents, so i wouldn't know the exact names. anyways, i guess it just goes to show that there are 2 sides to every coin. i do hope it gets better for you somehow, & will keep u in my prayers.
  8. I'm against it. Plain and simple. I believe in the afterlife we'll have to give an accounting of all our actions in this life, and if people want to try explaining that to God, they can give it a loser's shot.
  9. i use it for everything, especially its Images search feature.I found this site through Google.
  10. well, while it's technically 15 posts, you're advised to have at least 15 posts AND 15 credits, just to be safe. once u have the required posts/credits, go here to request free hosting: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/175-free-web-hosting-account-request/
  11. yes, that's true. but i'm not stuck on Creative, and while it is a good brand, there are other generic MP3 players that offer 20 or 40 GB sizes, at prices competitive with the iPod. Though i haven't bought one myself---like inspired, i've got a cd/vcd/mp3 walkman, which currently meets my needs, and i am not in any mood to spend more at this point.
  12. I used IE for so long before finding firefox. it rocks not to have 20 or 30 windows open at the same time. security is a hell of a lot better. even with tweaks, though, it takes forever to load. however, this is more than counterbalanced by the speed with which it loads pages. also, keeps pages in memory, unlike IE, so when you hit the back button, no waiting for those stupid images to load once again.
  13. I have a Radeon 9200 64 MB on my laptop. slow and wish it was better
  14. Cruelty to animals is wrong, and so it would be nicer if there was a better, more humane way to kill the chickens in that example. But as far as actually whether or not to eat meat, i believe it's morally correct. Aside from those who are simply vegetarians, the only religions i know of that prohibit eating meat are buddhists, Jains, Hindus, and related eastern religions. The 3 major faiths in --Christianity, Islam, and Judaism--all allow meat to be eaten. God told Noah in Genesis 9:3, "every moving thing that lives will be meat for you." Though it seems like God tried to put a safeguard on the cruelty issue, saying, in essence, "don't eat it alive". In other words, kill it quick and get it over with. Apparently this was a common practice among the idol worshippers of those times.
  15. Yeah, though i wouldn't mind trying it out if they did make one. i would try it as a second OS, tho. don't like their privacy stuff, but hey, i'm sure someone would find out a way around it. like, Micro$oft is full of their own spyware, but ppl have gotten around it.I don't know what it would go over like, tho. Google's strong point is its search engine, & email. If they were to try the OS market, i think it would only go over with a small sector of enthusiasts.the majority of computer buyers knowing nothing about their computers, would go for windows over google, just because it's the OS word stuck in their mind.
  16. yes! one of the major reasons viruses still come in is through lack of updating the DAT files. I would recommend McAfee Virusscan and Firewall, Zonealarm Pro, and Kaspersky.I've never tried NOD32, but after what you've said, i'm inclined to give it a go.
  17. I don't think it helps much to have a good virusscan program if you don't also have a good firewall running. ridding the computer of a virus is much more difficult than preventing it from getting in in the first place. if you've got a good firewall and use firefox, you pretty much can't get viruses unintentionally.
  18. here's mine: Laptop rez 1024x768 one of StyleXP's themes...don't remember which fractal C++ wallpaper WinXP Pro I HATE MESSY DESKTOPS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Already having 4 icons onscreen is too much.
  19. Nothing to do with the internet, but if you have two hard drives, you can stripe them and it really boosts the hard disk access times.
  20. i think the question was more like, "Mac or Other" I prefer other brands because they're much cheaper and more variety to choose from. Plus now Creative has come out with some pretty big storage sizes. AND.....the rage is all iPod nowadays, so there's one biggest reason not to go for that.
  21. I use McAfee because it was my original choice years ago. after then i tried Norton---Huge resource hogKaspersky--Good, but also resource hogPanda---got infectedSo I went back to McAfee. Since getting cable a year ago, and visiting many sites that attack your computer, I have not gotten a single virus. So i'm pretty happy with it, and "if something isn't broken, don't fix it"---i won't be in the market for another one till this really lets me down.BTW, i have found version 9 to be much faster than 8, which was a huge improvement over version 7.
  22. hey, not bad. but for some reason it took a LONG time to load on my 256k connection.

  24. i wouldn't know where exactly to download it from, but try downloading or getting a copy of knoppix. it runs off the cd and you can copy all ur important files off. or, for the next time, get BartPE and create a rescue cd that lets you basically work in windows without loading windows.
