i'm partial to the underground series, and i can't wait for part 3 to be out. all the same, the earlier NFS series was good in its time. my personal favorites were Hot Pursuit 2, High Stakes, and Porsche Unleashed. I liked the approach in NFS5 of going through the drivers training, racing without scratching your car, missions, etc. i think that's the one thing i don't like about the Underground. only in Drag races can you total your car. all the races should be as realistic as possible, IMO, and that means crash damage, getting knocked out of the race if your car is totaled, having to spend money between races to repair your car, repair the engine, tires wearing out, etc.i'm glad they're bringing back one of the core elements of NFS to Underground3. ----Police. The game loses its charm without them.

Is there a way to configure an account in outlook express to send mail to other computers on your local LAN? or a plugin or add-on for outlook express that will do it? i've found lots for outlook, but not for express.

NOD 32 and Tiny Firewall Pro.i hate Norton and anytrhing to do with it. it's a resource hog that slows down your computer immensely. the only adware program i use is ad-aware pro.i never had a virus or spyware get through the combination.

Sony Dvd-rw And Copywrited Dvd's Is it possible to copy?
Styx replied to Darren0330's topic in Hardware Workshop
um...i don't know if Nero works with region free. DVDXcopy isn't a bad idea. or you can try DVD decrypter. it has the added benefit of being freeware.i don't think that's illegal to talk about. it's a good program, and if you're after making backup copies of your stuff, that should be fine. i haven't found any program yet that can beat the speed and ease of DVD decrypter. it's convenient as well if your dvd player is region 2 and your dvd is region one, you can change the region on the new dvd. -
i like the GTR Skyline! that would be my dream car. right now i drive a toyota corolla, but it's not the most powerful model.

use a program like DVD region-free. run it while you're copying your DVD. or try CloneDVD. -

Since moving to Pakistan, I've been appalled at the poor internet service here. Especially since the cable has gone down, things have only gone from bad to worse. Now with the satellite links things are slowly moving again. I can finally access Yahoomail, hotpop mail, all my other mail accounts. But for some reason gmail won't work. The google search engine works fine, but when i try to access the mail section i get a page not found error. is this possibly only a local problem, or is it something that others have found as well? i imagine not, or there would be a major outcry. Still, i'm worried that somehow it's gone down, and all my mail is getting lost in cyberspace.

Yeah i would so like to get broadband, instead of the crummy dial-up, but right now i'm stuck with nothing. the frustrating thing is that i can access google search & images, but not mail. No news feeds either. I used to do a lot of heavy downloading before, even tho it was a 256k line only. now to be connecting at 24k or possibly 33k if i try 20 times or so, seems like back to the stone age!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It seems strange tho that Ireland wouldn't have it. It's not like they're a 3rd world country...

I've just moved to Pakistan, and the internet all over the country has gone down supposedly. i heard that somehow the submarine cable got cut, but it's been a week and they're taking so freaking long to repair it, if that's the problem. i can't access my personal site, yahoo, Gmail, basically Xisto and a couple other sites are the only ones that work. why, oh why, does a country only have a single internet cable? it's insane! I haven't been able to check my mail since then and god only knows how long it'll be before it's back up. No news available here on how long it'll take. Has anyone heard anything more about it?

how about going for a Gig of ram and getting a second hard disk? Then you can stripe them, and boost your access speeds. then when you come across some more $$$, you can always stick in the other gig of ram.

yeah well after all this i wasn't able to enable it. Guess the motherboard doesn't support it. i wanted to speed up my work in premiere, but i'm thinking now of just buying a good desktop and forking over the extra cash rather than tinkering around with the laptop.

go for lite-on.. i've bought several of their models and never had any problems. if yu want something pricey, look at the Plextor line.I paid $40 for a lite-on 8x burner, and with a firmware hack it's now a 16x DL burner.

I use alot of programs at once, generally when working i have Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Imageready, Premiere Pro, Word, Firefox, Winamp, Total Commander, and Yahoo! Msgr open at once. I use them all, though i do find it irritating to have so many tabs open on the bottom. I love the tab in window approach in firefox, i just wish that M$ Word had it as well, as i generally need to have 5 or 6 documents open, if there was an option to have the tabs across the top of the page, life would be a LOT easier. But more than 10 programs, i think is overdoing it.

if that was a virus in the cpu, i never heard of one. but on the computer, yeah once i got one, the day my anti-virus protection expired..............................murphy's law...........

black & dark blue, no question. i use a modified version of blade theme from wincustomise. though for major text areas i changed the color to off-white as a dark scheme was just too hard on the eyes....................

i like that car as well, of course they didn't give many other options. i'm not into american muscle, so there wasn't much variety in that sense, but that skyline more than made up for it. the storyline sucked worse than the first, but hey, that's not why i watched the movie.......i made a nice wallpaper with a skyline foto i found. -
i had one that did that. it burned out some circuit due to a power surge, and would randomly open and close whenever it felt like it. i took it in for repair and the tech said it would be cheaper to buy a new one..............

try either sticking it as a slave in another win XP computer. or you can try booting from a NTFS-enabled boot disk with the command prompt. then if u can see your files, transfer them over the network, or whatever you have, onto another computer, and then reformat. or another idea is to boot from a Linux disk, or Bart PE, which may be able to boot you into the system so you can burn copies of your files................. .........those are possible solutions.....

Just a subnote on the price issue: I bought mine a year ago refurbished from tigerdirect. it cost me $1000, and the price for the same model brand new was over $2000. then for a couple hundred bucks more i upgraded, so now i'm running:P4 2.66 Ghz processor 1GB ram 80 GB hard disk 64 MB ati radeon 9200 DVD+-RW WiFi And for having been bought in Feburary of 2004, that was a pretty good deal. I've never had an unwarranted crash yet. The only times it did was when i used it in bed --- yes, i am quite addicted to it --- playing NFS underground for a couple hours, with it on a synthetic blanket, and it had all the fans blocked. i think that wouldn't count against the machine, but more against user stupidity.

i agree that Dell is a good computer, but there are also others that are just as good, and maybe cheaper. i have a Compaq Presario 2568 CL desktop replacement notebook, and it's never given me any trouble. Other brands i've tried are: Acer -- not the greatest in terms of portability and robustness, but extremely affordable and a good bargain. Asus -- good laptops, but some sticky problems with hardware on older models Alienware -- lovely machines, ideal for high-end usage. Though alright for gaming, it's taxing on any laptop and a desktop is better. Can't afford one again, though Toshiba -- My personal opinion: overpriced and no better than Dell or Compaq machines. Gateway -- Overpriced and had to constantly replace parts. as a footnote, there ARE bad brands out there............. stay away from the minor league unbranded laptops. Once i bought a laptop built by a local company. within the year the PAINT was almost all flaked off, i couldn't get more than halfway through a DVD without it stuttering and freezing up, and their service dept wasn't helpful or able to fix the problem. Building your own isn't a bad idea either, but the advantage of buying one from a large manufacturer is that years down the line you'll still have them providing support for your outdated model. Believe me, when you're working with these OLD machines, it's next to impossible to find drivers for some of their components unless they're posted on the manufacturer site.
