Regular LAN or ethernet cables (UTP - Unshielded Twisted Pair) - come in various Categories usually maked as CAT-X (where X is a number from 1-5, which indicates a measure of its quality)... With the present equipment, the only grade of recommended wiring is CAT-5 which can carry singals upto a 100metres without needing an attenuator in between - at speeds of 100mbps and less. The so called twisting of cables is done to cross-out and minimize any sort of electrical interference that these cables might suffer. It's ALWAYS best to place your network cables at 90degrees to any electrical line you have.As far as I know nothing below CAT-5 can sustain 100mbps speed over distances more than 10-15 metres... And as for 1000Mbps or Gigabit ethernet - its out of reach of normal copper cables - completely. Even CAT-10 (if it ever happens to be) physically cannot reach that speed. For attaining this speed, you'd have to fall back to FDDI or Fibre Optics cards and cables.Just google for CAT-5 and you'd find plenty of information

Physics is another one on my Top List Simply LOVE physics.. Has anyone read the book "Surely you're Joking Mr. Fenyman" ? - one of the most hilarious texts I've read about any physicist ever... (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/) BTW, Richard P. Feynman is considered one of the most brilliant physicists ever since Einstein. His first ever lecture in CalTech is considered the first and foremost reason to set of NanoTechnology into motion -- and towards reality. You can find a transcript of this amazing lecture at: http://www.zyvex.com/nanotech/feynman.html If you're to join an engineering degree back in India - you'd surely have to read through his texts (a series of 5 books - collective works of his lectures at various universities) known as Feynman's Lectures. Whether you're interested in physics or not - be sure to check out his funny biography - Surely You're Joking Mr. Feynman m^e

Dude get in touch with one of our older members "solemanian" - he's persian too.. and might have loads to share with you. Just search for him on the memberlist - or check out the posts... he's got plenty of posts. -
Hi everybody, This is to inform you that we will not be approving new hosting accounts till all the server issues can be fixed. Recently we've received hundreds of complaints about not being able to access cPanel/FTP/hosting account etc. as also about broken account creation process resulting in invalid accounts. The New Account Request forum has been shutdown temporarily. Meanwhile - those who'd already made enough posts for the starter account and applied for hosting - are encouraged to keep posting, so that by the time we start approving again you can directly apply for the Regular Package (of course with the due 30 credits). So do I advice to any new members here who might drop by seeking hosting. We should be able to approve the hosting accounts once again within a short few days, as soon as the necessary maintainance work is done with. Thank you for bearing with us till then. Regards, m^e

Yup anytime You're more than welcome. As I said - any help/discussions about computing topics - we're always here. Cheers :lol:m^e -
Hi there weaponx - no it's not just you. This has to do something with the nameserver resolutions - from some parts of the world this place loads blazing fast - while some suffer (including me with a 1meg adsl) very bad load times. Then again - it becomes amazingly fast at times.. God's hand - or so they say :lol:Welcome to Xisto and have an enjoyable stay...Regards,m^e

Hahaa - nicee job houdini damn cool. I wonder if you can transform these to accomodate Glassy-Look buttons - SMF has a theme named SMFOne, that employs the same.

It is quite possible to create a baby outside - by artificially fertilizing the egg with the sperm - resulting in what we know as the test-tube baby. But even in this case - right after fertilization and initiation of the birth process, the foetus has to be returned to a mother's womb - coz that is the sole way, it can draw nutritions properly and develop in a normal human being. But during this phase the foetus needs the guarded environment of the womb to protect it from a wide variety of dangers (germs, particles etc.). This method is quite commonly used these days for women who are unable to conceive children naturally (maybe due to some defect in the placenta - coz placenta is the collection of tissue that the foetus gets attached to - and it is these placental cells which acutally "feed" and increase the foetus in size till it can be called a normal baby). Sometimes due to certain defects in the placenta (which in effect is the "carbon source" you were talking about) - the newborn feotus cannot get a good grip on it and as a result won't get attached properly resulting in loss of the foetus. While humans have made it possible to emulate the fertilization process outside the body - why is it not possible for us to actually bind together carbon molecules and mysteriously create the baby out of thin air ? The answer lies in the human DNA. What actually gives rise to specific cell arrangements in different parts of the foetus - thus laying out the rudimentary stages for the formation of our vital organs ? Once again - it all depends on the DNA. Believe it or not - the whole blueprint of the human body is encrypted into those ultra-microscopic chains of amino acid & proteins. Remember the old days when they used the Punched Cards to store data ? The process is somewhat similar. There's a protein fabrication system in our body which depends on a similar system. THe DNA (which we all know to exist in a double-hellical shape) actually separates out into thin strands and accompanied by RNA, they pass through this protein fabrication plant. Imagine a looooong strip of punched card passing through a reader - and the results giving rise to an image on the screen, pixel by pixel. That's what exactly happens - when these strands of DNA pass through the fabrication plant, it studies each tiny segment of the DNA (actually looks out for the base chemical Adenine, Guanine, Cytosine & Thymine) and depending on their arrangement, fabricates protein threads that matches some organ of our body or the other.. Some other parts of the DNA once again contains information on HOW to combine these threads and lay them out correctly to form a normal foetus. Hence the whole idea of congenital diseases or birth defects come from here. If the DNA of either of the parents is malformed - the results get reflected in the foetus through this fabrication process and hence we get babies with birth defects/diseases. Pheww.. sorry.. biology was/is of my most favourite subjects and I tend to get carried away once I start Hope this will clarify the whole process a bit - if you want more information, I could write loads more detailed stuff about the actual fabrication process and who (DNA/RNA) does what.. Hi, I always refer to this site for my antivirus reviews: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ - their reviews seem quite reliable and they present you with a clean, easy-to-read-and-determine feature comparison chart. I'd picked up BitDefender Pro from their list. While even I'm not willing to shell out $300 on an AV, BitDefender cost me only $45 - which I was more than willing to pay, to save me the long-term troubles on an unprotected system. My all out recommendation is for BitDefender Pro 8 coz: My system hasn't been infected even ONCE over past 8 months - it manages to catch every form of Worm/Virus/Trojan - whatsoever. The purchase was well worth it - their updates are always declared well-ahead in time and downloads happen really smooth, even with broken updates. With the purchase i'd got 1 years 2 months of free updates. The AntiVirus also includes an integrated FireWall - which works really well + an AntiSpam module which scans incoming mails on almost any well-known email client automatically. It infact watched out for outbound connections to port 110 and starts scanning immediately. Overall very strong protection and excellent detection rates. Finally am very happy with one concrete antivirus. Their after sales service is really good - always very prompt with their replies. i could go on and on about this - but best would be for you to check out their site (http://www.bitdefender.de/) and the review site i mentioned above. miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to silentkarma1405241502's topic in Security issues & Exploits
It is supposed to be a variant of the Win32.Dansh.Worm - your system is surely infected with it. Most probable transmission medium of this worm is IRC. Get more information about it at: http://vic.zonelabs.com/tmpl/body/CA/viruss.jsp?VId=40289 You need to do something seriously about this.. it's not a good thing to have lying around. -
Would You Like To Have A Spell Check For Your IPB?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to Houdini's topic in Software
Hi, I've successfully implemented a php-based spell checker on my board - feel free to drop by and check it out at: http://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=antilost&e=com .. Works terrific and quite fast. As far as I remember the mod is named phpSpell - and it's very easy to install. Regards, m^e -
See this is your second post with almost exact same problem - we've told you before, unless you can post a good part of the code it won't be possible to crack the problem in any way. This way at best, we can make some wild guesses - such error messages can be caused by over a million different reasons. You'll never get a good reply unless you're more specific with your problem.

They Moved Me To Trap17 :( What Should I Do
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to theillestmc12's topic in Web Hosting Support
Not really, because both these forums thrive on a different breed of posts - here we accept only good quality technical posts... and give hosting to only those members who are capable of that - see the logo: Xisto: Where Talent fuels Hosting. For those whose posts are good - but nevertheless not upto the technical standards we expect, are redirected to Xisto - with same hosting features, but far easier posting rules & guidelines - and is generally a more fun-filled place. Asta usually maintains a more serious note in whatever topics it covers and there's an overall general decorum we adhere to on this board. Hope this clears up things a bit Regards, m^e -
Hello To Astahost Ppl me saying hello
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to hatim's topic in Introductions
Hi there Hatim, Welcome to Xisto - I had quite a few pakistani students in my univ. - computer science students too. Very nice people. One of them was a real brainy dude - graduated with Cum Laude Feel free to jump right into the forums and share your computing experiences with us. Also tell us more about how the life in Pakistan really is - from the view of a commoner. There's the Life Talk forum where you can share your views about anything under the Sun & the Moon. This site & it's sister site Xisto (which is, as the name suggest, more oriented towards the Teen crows) - are under the XisTo ring of sites. Xisto funds these free hosts accounts, in return of good, quality posts on various topics. While Xisto's the more general version, here at Xisto your posts have to be on computing topics and meet up to certain quality criteria in order to get hosting. Your posts are what you "pay" for your hosting account with - which I believe is a nominal amount considering you don't shell out anything in real currency - but rather is a small investment of your time. Our objective here is to build up a massive knowledge base of computing problems & solutions and build a terrific thriving community in the process as well. At this point we might say, that we've achieved a fair degree of success in this regards - but we're still looking forward tomore contributions by the techie people such as you. Have a great stay at Xisto & have fun Regards, m^e -

Lol.. you're forgetting that the Autoflush has the option of setting it to flush at 12 days intervalt too What if someone among those lazy dude (who might actually like a dirty toilet, for various *ahem* reasons) - manages to set it to a 12 days interval ? Hehe.. well, under such circumstances, don't you think going manual would be a lot better .. well, I shouldn't write any more of this, coz the whole scenario is conjuring pretty dirty images in my mind which when put to words here might make any of you run for our dearest friend Mistah Looo -
Can You Recommend A Database Programmer?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to chriswanson's topic in Programming
Hi there, You can find the windows .exe installer for php here: http://php.net/get/php-5.0.4-installer.exe/from/a/mirror Now, I haven't ever used the networkActiv webserver before, so I wouldn't be able to give you any idea about how it handles mysql & php, but if it is one of the better ones, then it surely will (with or without the help of some additional plugins). You say, you run perl scripts on them. If you're familiar with perl coding, then I'd suggest you scratch out php from your list temporarily and carry on with perl - it has the capability to interact with mysql almost to the same extent as php. You can google for perl+mysql and you'll find plenty of examples. That way you won't have to bother with the configs either - for now. -
Why Is Installing Redhat Linux Difficult?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to nidahasa's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I dont think either of Fedora or Redhat are that difficult to install - I've installed both loads of times recently, and almost at every other step, you're presented with options to do stuff automatically - like auto-partition, auto-select packages based on what mode you want to run the system in (Server/Workstation etc.) - as qwiji pointed out since Windows hardly presents you with options while installation, it seems pretty easy to the users, and when they face all these on Linux it becomes quite scary... But I'd say any day that the Linux installers these days are, if not easier, at least at far with the Windows ones (forget about being way wayyy more advanced - we're talking about the ease of install here).. In between once, I was installating Mandrake 10+ while it was still Mandrake - and I found their installer ultra easy - perfectly designed for the home/desktop user - and very similar to Windows, in the step-by-step method it handled the installation process. -
Shutter Fun Shutter tricks ?
miCRoSCoPiC^eaRthLinG replied to make believe's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Whoaa.. damned good job - and real quick too You're a good learner man !! Yea, as chiiyo said, try removing that paper at the bottom - it's kinda distracting, although you could try place it in a different way and see if it add's to the dramatization in some way. But surely try and use a Tripod - that'll reduce the shake and yor friend will come out a little clearer. If no tripod, simply put the camera on some high stool or table - will work all the same. Also one more recommendation: If you're using a little old SLR, get yourself a Cable Release - you know, the foot-longish metal cable, which you can screw on over the shutter button and make it click from far off ?? That'll also reduce the vibrations transmitted through your finger (which might have considerable effect even with the camera on a tripod, when the shutter is being kept pressed for a long time) - or else, in the more recent SLR's you get a small one-button remote control that does the same job (mine does - Nikon F75D).. Rest all looks fine You can still try experiementing with this shot - try out bracketing, i.e. take the same shot with 4-5 different apperture settings. Make sure you note 'em all down, as to what setting for which frame. In the end when you sit back and study the pictures along with this data - it'll be quite self evident, which setting's the best for your light condition and film speed. While in this case, you might not get that much of difference - other than slightly sharper/blurred picture - bracketing has extremely distinct advantages in daylight as well as sunrise/sunset photography.
