  1. Wahhaaaa.. u seem to be right after my heart, muh man !! I used to be a complete IRC freak abt 5 years back when IRC consumed me completely... and Linux is still eating me alive bit by bit Welcome to Xisto - dive right in and have a thoroughly enjoyable stay :(regards,m^e
  2. Hi to all of you and a very warm welcome on behalf of the Xisto staff Glad to see that you guys have warmed up already - that's what we really want in here... We strive hard to make this place as comfortable for everyone as we can.. Have fun & have a great enjoyable stay with us here ...Regards,m^e
  3. When your account gets created - its preconfigured to host a wide variety of files (plain html, php, frontpage extensions etc.) - you'll find a lot of folders and files quite a few of which you won't need if you plan to use just php/html files in conjunction with Apache Web server. You need to log into your cPanel and use the File Manager and delete all files and folders EXCEPT: 1. public_html 2. public_ftp 3. Any files and folders that begin with a "." (dot) 4. A file named www that is actually a link to your public_html folder The rest all you can safely wipe out and recover the rest of your space...But don't mess around with the files/folders in the list above. Regards, m^e
  4. Unless you post the whole block of code, it won't be possible to figure out the cause of this error alone from that single line. Such an error message could be because of a wide variety of reasons - missed out closing braces, incorrect table names (MySQL tables are extremely case-sensitive)... so post the whole block of code here and we might be able to help you out.Regards,m^e
  5. Notice from m^e: Same threads same day - am merging this with it's predecessor as pointed out by Neverseen.
  6. Naaah dude - shoutbox is a separate entity on its own and doesn't have anything to do with the credit system - which solely depends on the number of words/images/title-body relevance etc. Dunno how your credit increased - but surely it wasn't because of the shoutbox :(regards,m^e
  7. Welcome to Xisto bob - and thanks for stealing my idea (j/k) - even I'd started working on a similar game but had to drop it for now coz of my real-world workload. I'm a .net coder too - and in case you're serious about this game, we could chip in our knowledge and make it a terrific game. Also how do you plan to release it ? Opensource or Proprietary ? If opensource, you might consider hosting it as a project on AntiLost.Com - our opensource partner hosting site.Regards,m^e
  8. PHP-Nuke is included in the Fantastico installer in your Xisto cPanel. You don't need to upload it separately unless you want the most recent version up there. Simply go to Fantastico and select PHP-Nuke from there. All you'll have to do it enter a database name and some other parameters there and Fantastico will take care of the rest. Completely hassle free and less-than-a-minute installation Regards, m^e
  9. Holy S*** - 20 bucks a month for 28.8 ?? OMG!! Dude you're being massively ripped off. Here in Thailand we pay approx. 700 Baht ( 17.5USD ) for a 1 meg ADSL link. Do something about it real quick. Break you modem, rip off your phone line or something similar - do some extensive damage to the connecting mechanism that your folks are forced to switch over to the better alternative Tell them, you had a talk with your modem and told it about the kind of speeds other modems handle, and yours got extremely shocked and died of shame.. - that'd be the perfect excuse :(Regards,m^e
  10. Glad you liked them. I'm an avid amateur photographer and have dabbled in the art of photography and all it's accessories quite a lot. Interesting discussions on the various aspects of photgraphy are always welcome - anytime Another hobbyist like me is the member named chiiyo. We have yet a third pro. photographer ( I forgot his nick ) - but his work is hosted at http://www.samuelphotos.com/ on Xisto - Web Hosting. Be sure to check 'em out. He's got some excellently executed shots on his site. Very color rich (saturated) and well-framed. In fact, that's how I got started on photography - by studying such pictures for long hours. That gradually helped me develope a sense of framing and probable subjects - which is of prime importance when it comes to taking pictures. Regards, m^e
  11. I'd totally vote for BitDefender - while its oriented more towards the home user and it's scan engine is a little slower that it's contemporaries - it successfully manages to catch way more viruses and adware that any of the others. Last 7 months - not a SINGLE virus/worm has managed to slip through - even though I'm online almost 24/7 and doing some heavy downloads. The integrated firewall works quite well too And on top of that it's extremely cheap when compared to its counterparts and their after sales service is really good.
  12. Yup this is very much possible - your linux server can run a wide variety of services like FTP/WWW/Mail etc painlessly - while you windows systems can avail these services over the LAN.. now if your Linux server's also connected to your modem-router (assuming that u've got an ADSL link) then you can offer these services to the outside world too ... You can do some really cool stuff with such a configuration..Regards,m^e
  13. What you seek can be achieved extremely easily with a Normal SLR camera - as also with a DigiCam if it has the Bulb or B - shutter mode. With B as shutter speed, your camera shutter remains open as long as the shutter button is kept pressed. When you want to do this kind of photography, you've to take help of a tripod - otherwise you'll get very bad camerashake causing the whole picture to appear very fuzzy. Once on a stand, all you've to do is make you friend stand in front of it with a sparkler and then open the shutter and let him paint away to glory in thin air.. With a little practise you can come up with some amazing designs.. Check out some of my pictures in another post titled Full Moon Rave Pics - in this same forum. You'll find plenty of Fire-Poi (Fire Chains) spinning pictures with similar effects as that you're seeking to do. Here's the link: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/83172-topic/?findpost=1064298373 I had tried out something similar once - but in a slightly different manner. Instead of using Sparklers, I relied on a FULL MOON in the sky to do the painting. Of course, with this method - it required a lot more practise and expertise, coz, the whole idea was like holding your pen straight in one place and moving the paper below it to come up with the desired pattern - which goes contrary to our conventional sense of writing/drawing something. But the end result was nevertheless quite striking Regards, m^e
  14. Major9 - on behalf of Xisto, I extend you a warm welcome It's a terrific thriving community out here - simply dive in and have fun :(Regards,m^e
  15. Hi there Lothlorien, Welcome to Xisto Hope you'll share some of your gourmet recipes with us Have a great stay.Regards,m^e
  16. It should be possible with flash too - but you'd have to write some really advanced algorithms that analyze the waveform and then render the beats visually. Takes a hell lot of work, my man... and you've to be extremely proficient with the various graphics routines too to be able to generate all those funky effects.
  17. This is very funny - all those random strings sound suspiciously like the work of some Worm - though I don't know of any that spoofs fake hardware... still you should do a thorough scan first. Meanwhile lets see if anyone's had this experience !!
  18. Hehe.. welcome to Xisto chewe Have great fun and an enjoyable stay.. I'm a star wars freak too not just the game - but the movies and anything to do with them.
  19. Glad that helped. Issue resolved. Topic closed.
  20. Don't worry about Xisto - Web Hosting - it works out really fine. Even then do ask around - I think we've a member named BliX who's shifted over to Xisto - Web Hosting. Even though Xisto, Xisto - Web Hosting, Xisto and Xisto - all are under the same concern - the paid hosting accounts are hosted on more stable servers and very well looked after - so you shouldn't have a reason to worry. The downtimes are far less and fewer than what you'd normally see here. About not getting a reply from the support mail - all I can say is the admin is kind of busy - well, to be frank he's neck deep into his computer engineering final exams - he's vanished for a week or too with due appologies conveyed beforehand. So you might have to wait a week more, till he gets over with all of them and can resume the normal service. My request is please excuse the delay in reply, considering the urgency of his situation.Regards,m^e
  21. Welcome to asta, Hellblazer Yup we do have a terrific community in here. Have fun and have a great stay.Regards,m^e
  22. Enough of Gmail invites - we've had thousand of them floating around. Plus this isn't a tutorial by any means - be more careful where you're making your posts next time onwards. The bare minimum necessities for a post to qualify as a tutorial is 500 words - and consisting of something that you've written on your own on any computing topic.Topic closed and moved.
  23. Nice one ninjamuky That word-jumbler's really cool. That gives me an idea to try design one on my own. There's a certain way to jumble them though - I tried out different permutations of characters using a simple algorithm - but not ALL of them can be deciphered so easily - so there must be a definite jumble order.. Am off to try figure it out.
  24. Way to go flachi finally someone right after my heart. Fedora ROCKZZ !! Infact the whole Linux bandwagon RULEZ.. To hell with windows Similar to everyone - I wouldn't be using it if not for the fact that quite a few of my fav. games don't run on Linux even with WINE. Virtual machines are a different story altogether But nothing like Linux. I wouldn't even dream of running a server on anything remotely associated with Windows.
  25. Hi guys I forgot where I'd got this image from - my guess is many of you must have come across this earlier on - but still this is great fun to read through.. Give it a shot: Cool - aint it ? Regards, m^e
