Search cactus was one of the old site which was using coupons and rewards to pay their members. It is no longer active now and even if it is then it is likely to be restricted to the US market. I see that they are similar to lockerz which is new these days. Both of these sites don't pay to their members, i don't know what they do with the points and money they get from us. In any case it is not working anymore for most of us. i think we should not waste our time on such rewards and offers site. 100% of the time such sites go down and no longer remain alive to pay us/members. So make sure you cashout or get referrals early to either get paid or to realize that you wasted time.

Google Adsense Alternative Alternatives to Google Adsense
mahesh2k replied to OpaQue's topic in Online Advertising
Google adsense may be good but many asians are not allowed to apply for this network. Some are hold off for 6 months or so. I think this is for the verification purpose before anyone spams the hell out of that network. So they keep it under monitoring until they get some trust on publishers. Coming back to adsense alternatives. there are some good alternatives which pays less but are enough to cover the cost of hosting. For example, vadpay is one cpc/cpm ad network which is suitable for small publishers. They're going to pay with moneybookers, paypal, webmoney. They're good if you can deliver some decent traffic. Other than that there is also buysellads which pays to high traffic websites. Earning 50$ or so is not so hard with this network. They pay on time everytime per month and you don't have to worry about it. Project wonderful is another ad network which is CPM based and it takes payment. They don't have much good advertisers for non-us residents but if your blog is us or canada based then expect some good returns. You'll get paid when you reach 10$. I'm yet to reach that payment level but till then i guess i need to wait for some decent traffic. These are some good alternatives that i know of personally. I might update this thread soon if i found any other good alternative. :-) -
Ultra Edit editor is designed for all purpose of text editing and processing. Mostly it is used by bloggers and programmers. I see some value of such editors because they accept almost every known and popular language files. There is also support for the FTP and other web design features. So this text editor is not just text editor but it can be used as dreamweaver alternative. One more thing about that editor is there is built in spell checker which you can use for text checking if you're writer. There are some extensions to it as well which makes it easy to use the editor in full screen mode. Most of the writers need this feature. This way they can skip on softwares like ywriter and writemonkey. If you're looking for any feature rich text editor then consider using ultra edit notepad editor. It is not free but for the price that you pay for it, worths every cent into it.

I had some good experience with edit plus. I also tried edit pad lite and still use it sometimes but when it comes to syntax highlighting and good language support, there has to be better editor with scintill support. I found scitext editor good because of this reason. This is the reason i dont prefer notepad. PSPAD is also one known editor that is gaining quite a lot of popularity lately. They do have some excellent support for multiple programming language. File manager and and organizer which makes it easy to use with tree based interface. This is perfect editor for those who are new to programming or want to use text editor with multiple language support. Notepad++ is one more text editor that you should use if you're thinking about simple yet powerful text editor. Like pspad it has support for many languages and can be used for all your text editing needs. Of course it has no spell checker and word processing capabilities. But it is perfect programmers notepad. You get everything that you find with other editors like ultraedit. This is my observation with most of the notepad editors, hope that helps for some of you here.

Google and Duckduck go thinks that it's better to see the links pointing to your site. So i guess you should collect more links to your site than submitting manually via their search submit feature. Google works better if you collect more backlinks instead of pinging with feed aggregation. So consider using backlinks to your site instead of generating links via feed reader or by wishing for random traffic by praying. Same goes for the bing but they consider high authority links in order to rank you better on search engines. Bing is also good at detecting on-page SEO format of your page. Off-page SEO is not much popular in bing but they're soon planning for the off-page additions. In my opinion you should keep eye on bing webmaster blog as well as google webmaster blog. Duck duck go seems to be good search engine for the queries related to technology and science. I consider it to be growing more in upcoming future. So instead of monetizing for google, you should consider thinking about this search engine as well. Bing and yahoo is also growing and then they're soon going to be more powerful than google. Google has low quality search engine results so soon bing and yahoo will soon take over them. This is the reason facebook joined with bing instead of google. Facebook was planning for their own search engine, but they somehow it failed to work out for them. So do consider optimizing for google and other search engines as well.

Google analytics is not the secure analytics service as it detects and crawls some unwanted portions of your site as well. Some folks think that they have only access to your pages where the code is instaleld but sometimes GA also recognizes bots on your server. I guess the reason for this is because they're using some technology to detect bots and are hiding this from their users. I think you should consdier piwik for hosting of the analytics stats. It's similar to google analytics but you have full control over your logs. It is also much better than google analytics in terms of privacy and security. So if you want to protect some portion of your site then consider piwik or reinvigorate stats. I also suggest you to use icerocket tracker for some obviious tracking. For those who are using wordpress.com or wordpress for hosting can use their built in stats. If you like this stat then keep it, you don't need google analytics.

I'm using namecheap for some of my domain registration needs. Namecheap is secure and they don't attack your brand for their own purpose. This is the reason i'm using their service for protecting my contact information. They're also offering that protection for free. Some of the extra services like DNS, redirection and few other services are offered for free here. Go daddy is another registrar which i used here personally. I found their service very decptive because they charge recursively without notifying you at all. So that is the reason i use other registrars to protect my funds. Go daddy can be configured from using your auto renewal feature but it's not off by default. Hence the issues with the service. Then there is domain registration service from xisto. They charge very high price for the domains. You are required to pay 14.28$ if youre asian user and 12.95 if you're an overseas user. I think this is the reason it is costing me more sum than others. I wish to get a better cheap registrar once i resolved some financial issues with the hosting. Once that is done then i can get any host and another domain registration. But till then i'm stuck here with this registrar. They're not bad but i need to get much cheap host for my domains and hosting space as well.

One more recent issue i found with paypal is that they're not in favor of buyers. I mean you've say wordpress theme for sale and then you're getting some customers. If customers feel like buying your product and then suddenly files chargeback then paypal will refund the money and then you have no other option than giving the money back. If the product is digital download then sure you lost one sale and also lost product for free to some person. I think this could in turn will result in issue with online market place. Paypal is not secure for buyers in such case because chargebacks are not good in case of digital download. You should consider other payment processor instead of paypal. I think okpay and alertpay are much better than paypal in such case only issue is that you can't use them on ebay.

I guess they're indexed pages from your old site and as you created backlinks to them, they're now appeared broken. You can do one thing -install '404 to start' plugin and redirect the traffic from crawler to the main page. This way you'll not get 404 error in next few months from google. This method should be followed when you move data from one wordpress blog to another. The reason this plugin works is because instead of redirecting it to 404 page, it goes to main page or any other page of your choice. Slowly even crawlers pick this up and take that dead page and search the index (main page) for available pages. I find this method much better than manually creating redirects for all broken pages. Most of the time it is hard to manage all that. If you deleted or removed or renamed old content then chances are there that you have to create redirection for all. If you fail to do that then surely there will be crawler errors. I think in order to avoid that , this plugin will help you for sure. Don't expect google crawler to get used to this anyway soon but by using temporary permalink you can permit google to divert and this will be in your favor because keeping dead pages or 404 error is not good for your site. Hope this plugin helps you address this issue.

Google webmaster and adsense forum is mobbed by bunch of eltists who think they know a lot of google. In reality they don't know anything at all. They only join that forum to harass newbies and want to take discussion to show off their elitist attitude. They usually don't reply to serious queries and issues but only join discussion when they find it's affecting their eltist ego. I hardly found anyone answering questions related to crawler. I got most of my answers from other IRC channels where some members were helping each other. You don't have to worry about crawler errors because they're shown on your google adsense and not webmaster dashboard. If you login to webmaster dashboard and found there are many errors then you should consider taking robots.txt for edit. I'm not going to comment on harshness of google because you never know what could happen tomorrow. I usually don't trust forum members because i know one forum where bunch of elitist notified google about this. So knowing all this i don't want anything like that to happen to someone who's sole earning is based on adsense. This is the reason i prefer caution and as i don't trust open forum, it's my natural reaction. You can take that action at your own risk, but i digress.

Buddypress - A Nice Membership Tool Build a community on WordPress
mahesh2k replied to imjjss's topic in General Discussion
I do have one site with buddypress installaed. The issue with buddypress is that core slightly differs from wordpress. This makes it hard for most of us to use wordpress plugins. I do want to use some wordpress plugins on my that site. But unfortunately i can't because there is no one to port the wordpress plugins. There are some guys who do that like WPMU Dev, but they're annoying and charge 75$/month fees. I don't think that fee is reasonable and hence i prefer not to use that plugin. That plugin is 'user sync' plugin which is only available at buddypress as of now. They also add some ads on the installation. I wish to get rid of those ads but their TOS restricts me from doing this. I don't know why anyone should invest on WPMU dev guys and i think you should not buy their stuff. They're very deceptive in their plugin and theme distribution and charge un fairly. I know we should not ask for free stuff but what WPMU Dev is doing is unfair. Coming back to the buddypress topic, if it becomes more popular then i'm sure it'll be possible to bring some themes and plugins from wordpress core. It's one good software which competes with ning, so i want to see it grow more. But if anyone wants to run forum then instead of buddypress they should run forum because buddypress has lot of glitches and will hardly do good with busy forum of 100 +actively posting members. -
Another Good Thing Gone -- Microsoft Is Buying Skype
mahesh2k replied to imjjss's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I don't think they'll drop freemium model of skype. Because if they do that then other companies will rise above it and will make skype history. Current freemium model seems to be working for skype and other messaging companies. Microsoft purchased it only because they wish to make more money the ads which can be geotargeted on skype window. Also dealing with government is easy for microsoft. I don't think this deal has any negative effect, unless ofcourse microsoft drops freemium model. Another thing, billl gates is no more operating as employee or in board of directors at microsoft. He gave resignation so it has nothing to do with him now. So let's cut out the negativity. Do you see MS's involvement in Yahoo made any negative issues ? Well, they wanted to break delicious but as it proved to be revenue source, they stopped it from going down. So in my opinion it's not as bad as people portray about microsoft. Afterall it's just another business and wants to survive by making decisions that makes money. -
Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
mahesh2k replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Navigational menus which are less accessible are likely to cause that effect. Oh and wordpress does allow you to add images and videos on your navigational menu. It's just that we don't use it to make site more simple. Most of the sites are also not worth to implement that idea. If navigation menu has enough links to let user access whole site or some important areas then it's fine. Some navigational menu also contain outgoing links, so there are chances that it causes bounce rate as well. In your case the menus are simple so i don't think this the reason behind the bounce rate. I know that there are some texts on bounce rate that explains about 60% value. But in case of ads on site, 90% value is also fine because some good ads convert well. But anything above 90% is pure leak and is sign of visitor dropping. Your site seems to be doing good (which is again really good thing) and you don't have to worry about this bounce rate anymore. -
This happens sometimes when crawler hits for the new updates on your pages. These crawlers are causing trouble for not only your site but many other sites as well. I found hubpages and infobarrel having issues with it as well. So that it looks normal that you're getting these errors. These crawlers are actually fetching content from your site and showing ads as well, so that's why it is recorded in your account. As for privacy of your adsense data. Some members from hubpages and infobarrel got their account crushed because of such issues. I think adsense team is too thick skinned to take such actions. If you're not sure about what to give in public, ask on their support forums. Still i'm not sure if they reply to support forum or not.

Tips To Decrease The Bounce Rate
mahesh2k replied to Ahsaniqbalkmc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
How much is your bounce rate ? if it is less than 90% then you don';t have to worry about because google adsense clicks are likely to be cause of this high bounce rate. But if your bounce rate is more than 90% then chances are there that you're getting less clicks as well as exits are high. I don't know what to do in case of 90+ bounce rate. But as far as my observation goes, design change and more navigable interface helps to reduce this bounce rate. You can also verify with other users if they find it less boring to navigate your website, if the do then surely that is one good signal that your bounce rate will be balanced soon. As for bounce rate between 50-90, it is normal bounce rate if you're running too many ads on your site. Because of ads many web surfers exit the site. So keep the ads minimum and see if tht helps. Avoid placing ad banners (bad idea for monetization) on annoying areas to see if it helps bounce rate. I don't know your CTR and ecpm(which supposed to be not revealed in public) and that's why i can't suggest you anything on that front. I know you can make changes based on the data given in this reply. Let me know if my suggestions help in any way. -
I'm using keyword optimizer pro for finding the keywords. This software is adobe AIR based and makes use of .air file. You can install this software on mac, linux and windows. You'll find it much better than any other keyword tool. The reason is because it depends less on the keyword tools of respective search engine. It makes use of search results which are high in number and also wonder wheel on google. In case of bing and yahoo, they use official API to get some data out of their search engine. You can find some interesting search keywords using the methods explained in keyword optimizer pro. Hope this helps.

Few things to clarify, never disclose your CTR and eCPM on any public forum. The reason behind it is that mentioned in google TOS. So if you do that then they're likely to cancel your account. The reason they can find you is because you're using sites as signatures here and they can trace it. They have teams monitoring the term adsense ctr and ecpm. So i hope you don't publish your ecpm and ctr from now on. Crawler errors are usually because of the translator bot or the bot which failed to catch usercontent. Robots.txt from your site is likely to be fine but the issue is with their crawler. You can go to your adsense account and explicitly accept these crawlers access to your adsense ID sites. This way the error that causes this bug will likely to vanish. Crawler errors occur every now and then to almost every website. So it is beneficial for you to make sure that you don't get them everyday or too often. If you get it then there is something wrong on your server. Usercontent crawler is not issue as it only fetches the content and has nothing to do with ads. Transate bot also has nothing to do with your content and adsense earnings. You can do much without these and can simply ignore them as well. If these are the bots which are causing error then i think there is no need to do anything from your side.

Bypassing Network Proxies Without Cgi Proxy
mahesh2k replied to 8ennett's topic in Websites and Web Designing
One more thing is that about-speed. How the speed is compromised in this process ? For example, using proxies often requires us to compromise on speed. Most of the IP level anonymous proxies are horribly slow. I have fond that CGI proxies are much faster in comparison but leaves more trails or traces(if you choose to call) and in turn are not secure for office or some other private network. I tried ip-switch proxy which slowed my network down by 10% and therefore i think it's better to use web based anonymous service instead of these proxies. Your method is good, no doubt about that. I just feel uncomfortable with slow proxies method as it turns slow my home network. There are some hide-my-*bottom*/lock-ip sites/softwares that could help in network proxies as well. I think they're paid so not sure how much to trust them even after their paid service. Your method looks good, maybe it'll help some folks here or others on the internet. -
It depends on your website quality and the amount of traffic that is coming to it. Based on this you'll be able to apply to other advertisers. Google has no issues with other ad networks. You can use google, microsoft pubcenter, adbrite and some other ads on same page. In my opinion google adsense and chitika combination works great. You can also use moderate amount of affiliate banners on your site. This way it is possible to get some traffic on your way. By the way the limit of ads on same page is for google adsense only. You can use other ads more than 3 times on same page. But that will be too much clutter if they're flash ads. If you're interested then you can try buysellads, karbonads and few other ads on your system. I'm sure that will definitely bring some revenue on table. Just make sure that they're displaying relevant ads and not showing some 'adult ads' like adsense on your site which is more of medical site and has nothing to do with that particular ad.

Fedora Or Ubuntu running a web server
mahesh2k replied to DJCinnamonSnow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I have to agree with xanex here. Virtual machine is really good idea to use linux if you have some decision making conflicts for distros. You can run as many distros depending on hard disk size. You dont need to partition real hard disk as virtual machine is run on it's own file format. This way many conflicts with host system are avoided. You can also test, update and use linux by connecting to host internet connection sharing system. This helps you update linux distro as well. Virtual machine comes with software - that let's users interact with host OS. For example your host OS is windows XP and want to use file transfer as drag and drop from windows to ubuntu linux. It is then possible to do just that. You have to install that software in virtual machine OS and it is possible. So you see, there are some good advantages of using virtual machine for testing any type of linux distro. You'll find ubuntu and mandriva much more customizable than fedora. But in any case, these are some good distros no matter which one you pick. -
Fedora Or Ubuntu running a web server
mahesh2k replied to DJCinnamonSnow's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Fedora is perfect if you want to run a server. Ubuntu is good if you are looking for desktop dsitro. The packages in fedora are more compared to ubuntu and the most of the pacakges are suitable for server administration. You'll find it easy to operate if you're thinking about fedora. Ubuntu is simple but more suitable for desktop administration and the packages and the universe table reflects that. You should analyze your needs and then decide what's good for you -desktop or server. Or you want to do both ? if you want to do both then suse is much better than these two packages. My opinion for desktop OS is divided between mandriva and ubuntu. I prefer mandriva over ubuntu and you should choose which one you find comfortable. It's not about the distro once you know how to manage your own packages and connect to repositories. This aside, i think you should choose fedora for server and ubuntu if you need desktop OS. -
Bidvertizer is not much of popular network for ads and that is the reason merchants on bidvertizer are not good. I mean ads like adults and some banned products are there so it's not good for you. There is also possibility of non-family friendly ads on bidvertizer. So if you've family friendly and safe site then you should definitely avoid bidvertizers. One more important point to note here is that the value of clicks is also low. You'll get paid in cents and itll take thousands clicks to reach the payout. Its not going to be very lucrative ad network in my opinion and there are many other alternatives instead of going with bidvertizer. You should try adbrite or balcklabel adsense ads instead. Ads are not attractive either and you'll find that they hardly attract anyone to click on it. So you are going to rely on random clicks to make some money. Not very beneficial for publishers who seek some revenue from their hardwork.

Some of the suggestions from your post do work and they're even in use by many members on and off this forum. Problem with some strategies is that they're not working as of now. For example, directory listing hardly helps these days. Because google and other search engines don't like farmer links. I mean site with lots of paid links. In such case they don't like paid directories either. Google used to like DMOZ earlier but now they're also ignoring it and moving to commercial search results. So if you're going to pay someone few bucks to buy paid directory listing then my suggestion is to stop and think about that strategy. Another thing is that traffic doesn't mean earning. I mean CPC ad networks hardly pay for tons of traffic which doesn't click on ad. Also if you install bot to click on your adsense ad then that is also not worth it. So spam bot and other auto promotion strategies are again NO-NO. Twitter and facebook are good traffic and promotion tools but watch out for the spam and other time wasting things. You need to make sure that you're not wasting time with some social networks but are fetching enough good traffic. Again, point of my post is look for the strategies that are working and use them to promote your site or product. Otherwise you're likely to get less results for your hard work. Put your efforts into the social media or other methods which are working.

It is obvious that OP's post is broken because post is 4 year old and there is no way that link can remain active. There is an add-on for firefox that lets you surf like Turbo feature in opera which uses proxy. YOu can use that add-on if you want. But in my opinion its better to surf for the opera tor as it is good in case of privacy tools. Firefox add-on for turbo alternative doesn't give good privacy and speed for operator. By the way, this is the new link of opera tor. It's about 6.4 mb download and once you download that just extract in some USB drive or in some folder of your harddisk. From there you can run the program. No need to install or uninstall the program in anyway. Hope that helps to solve your problem. There are some alternative URLs of softpedia and other sites but i prefer not to use them. They're slow and risky full of ads. So just download the operator from letwist.net

Best Thing For Making Website Templates! website templates
mahesh2k replied to addict's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Artisteer is good but it develops very generic set of wordpress or any type of templates. You need to get more creative outside the editor of artisteer. I found it good for some of quick slappy designs and it also saves money on code using them. You can also use artisteer to get some designs for your small 5$ or so gigs. These type of gigs can't expect you to have too much professional designs so you can use artisteer for that. Artisteer will save a lot of time and design money involved in such low cost projects.
