I updated the thread in my last post confirming that microsoft is not closing .NET framework. Yes, they're making it much more clean and secure. They're also adding support for the HTML5 and CSS. So that makes it easy for web developers to communicate with the operating system. So it is not end of the .NET, afterall there are consistent updates from the developers and microsoft has chance to go cross platform only with their .NET framework and C sharp language. So there is no way they're going to close it in anytime soon. What most of us are forgeting here is that, desktop is not about web browser, emails and audio player. There are some other domains where desktop based applications are needed heavily. For those domains to functions there is always need for the local desktop applications for faster processing and data security. For example, imagine running matlab on cloud computing. We're wasting resources of our computers by not using it and relying on cloud for that. Also internet connection speeds are always varying and are not cheap everywhere. So educational computing, scientific computing can't rely on cloud softwares for the compilation of program and storage as they need local medium to store and manipulate the data. Same goes with gaming industry, steam maybe good cloud example for gaming, but many people prefer to have games offline and solo or within family. There are surely benefits for games to have cloud interface but downloading simply isn;t going to cut it for cloud platform and resources for say 120 billion people playing games on cloud without any installation on their operating system is something beyond imagination as it'll need horrible servers and resources. So web only operating systems, tablets are not going to be primary medium of the computing usage. Casual surfing and tasks can be done with tablets and small computers but they can't achieve huge tasks that requires patience, creativity. Coming back to the .NET topic, as i said earlier they're not going to dump it. What made me think on this topic was that there was a lot of talk on this subject and no response frm microsoft. I guess silverlight and some other developer models are going to get affected but .NET as huge platform is not going to get affected with the change. September is going to be the first release month for the windows 8. So let's see how they present the new operating system in conference. Not sure if this will be any good for the some developer types but i can confidently say that .NET is here to stay because not all applications are worthy of cloud platform.

Just one update here. Icerocket seems to be having a lot of downtime these days. So if you wish to have uninterrupted analytics service then consider any other package for now. I lost some of my data and the stats with icerocket for now. I don't know if it's even worth using anymore. There is not even any email or stuff from them, they just got downtime and account removed just like that. So not worth investing time if you're serious about your analytics and the stats. Much better to use third part with some limitations rather than using software like icerocket. Instead you can look for woopra, open web analytics, w3counter or some other free and non-google or microsoft softwares. That way you can surely use the stats without any interuption and don't have to worrt about the data or stat loss. I checked open web analytics when i lost icerocket on one blog. Open web analytics offers you a better package of analytics similar to google analytics with features inside your wordpress blog. You can also have standalone features and sevrices but if you're running wordpress then they do offer entier package under plugins. So you just have to use it under your wordpress dashboard. Just download the zip file and upload it to wordpress plugins folder. Then there will be plugin activation inside your wordpress blog. You'll be able to update and use open web analytics from the wordpress dashboard itself. I don't suggest this method for those who have multiple installation under same hosting account. In such case better to get single site hosted somewhere and from there you can always get the open web analytics stats. Few more points about this software is that it is totally free and open source. You get the source and do anything with it within open source license. It is free and regularly updated. Some of the features mimics google analytics type reports and stats. So in short it is one good stat package to have for those who want alternative to analytics service like google and icerocket.

Windows has more options for the genealogy software and most of them have feature set and searchable database much bigger than any free alternative. In case of gramps you are not getting the database. You're only getting the free software and from where you have to build things on your own. That is the only issue with the gramps for now. Otherwise it stands as one good alternative software for the genealogy commercial software. I thought most of the users will like this for sure. I shared it on FB and found many friends liking it already. I don't know if they'll allow searchable and connectable database for the relationship building. But if they do then i guess that will help many members upload their information into the gramps. This information can be then used for the building of central genealogy tree. Ah too much wishful thinking for now. If you're using linux based version of the gramps then you'll surely notice the issue of learning that software. KDE based interface always looks cluttered due to the default themes. Maybe that could be the issue. If you're on windows then i guess you'll pick up things quickly without any issues and in few hours for sure. Most of the windows users picks up things quickly on their operating system. It's just that if you check mac or linux version then the interface with os and the respective desktop manager often confuses you. That is what happened to me.
-
I was looking for a way to map genealogy tree effectively and found gramps software. The problem with most of the other genealogy software was some of them were hard to export data. Some were restricted to windows or mac only. But first time i have found one good program on genealogy that runs on windows, mac and linux. I tested gramps on KDE under kubuntu and on windows. I have no idea about mac os version and so not yet tested. But as far as my current experience is concerned, gramps works fine on windows and linux. So in short gramps genealogy app is free, open source and available with multiple operating systems. If you're into genealogy for hobby or some important family history tracking then consider using gramps for your data analysis. There are some good features of gramps like - you can maintain relationships status and the life status with it. It's easy to modify such data related to the people using gramps. I have done this before and it's possible to do with data of ancestry. You can also add some important information related to family tree like - people, dates, events, children, places, gepgraphy, sources, extra text information, email address, physical address, repository, media and notes etc. You'll be able to create simple documents in few minutes if you've already used the documentation. There is some learning curve for the software by the way. You're not going to get the information about the usage that easily. Though there is some help available but you have to see each and every option on your own if you want to know how this software works. It is sometimes hard to manage the software if you're new to gramps interface. But if you work on it for sometime then you'll pick up the software for sure. There are some plugins that you can use with it to enhance the usage of the gramps software. You can find such plugins in plugin manager which i found after searching randomly. there are some good and un-necessary plugins, but it depends on you if you want them or not. For me, i guess none of these extra plugins interests me as software in that current state is enough for the usage. You can export the data in opendocument spreadsheet or tab seperated file in csv format. So this is pretty much everything you need in this gramps genealogy program. Not sure how many of you'll like this software but if it interests you, check gramps.

I guess you're using portableapps version of thunderbird ? I never thought about that. So now just downloaded that onto USB Drive. I guess this is much better way than carrying virtualbox image and linux distro inside USB. This also makes setting syncing easy as it can be plugged any time. Only issue is about consistent security updates. I have to update the installation regularly, like once a month, if there is any update for the thunderbird. By the way what plugins or add-ons you use with thunderbird ? I mean i would like to see if any add-on is worthy to use with thunderbird to save time or to be more productive. I am only thinking about calendar and contact book for now. Also thinking about using notepad like add-on to add things quickly from mail to it, in some cases. I didn't posted any links for the thunderbird, but those who want to use portable version of thunderbird, get it from portableapps.

1) If you think its hard to make money without google then i don't think making money online is for you. You don't have to be mark to be making money or driving traffic to you or your site. There are things like - list building, social media (not social bookmarking), connections, answers, forums which run independent of the search engines. These type of things are there even before google and still work much better in terms of traffic. As i'm using one of these traffic sources i don't care if google drops me out of index or not. It hardly makes any difference to me as i made plenty of changes since farmer update of the algorithm and considering panda update which is moving target, it's waste to rely on google for traffic. You take what you want from this, or ignore it. As for privacy and SERP issues with them, i cleared my view and got flamed here from SE noobs so i don't bother with them at all. I know when and which screw to turn in case of google for my benefit and when to ignore unlike noobs here. So any further talks on SERPS atleast on this forum is useless. 2) I prefer text link ads on subdomains because penalization is restricted to particular subdomain and hardly has impact on TLD. Content is irrelevant in case of text link ads. All they care is about PR and traffic and if you have that then it hardly matters what type of content is there on your site. You can assume the rest from here. Besides monetization is personal issue, which has restriction from networks when it comes to ad selling. You can have good content but due to less traffic it takes 2-3 years to even qualify for their criteria. So if you're using any low value links or ads on your site which has less beneficial monetization then it's your choice. Some sites only wait for "best possible monetization" and then get slapped with panda or farmer like algorithm. So it is upto you which type of ads suits your site and how you want to juggle with it. 3) Current algorithm isn't fixed and there are more than 5 named updates are running - farmer algorithm which runs once every month which kills sites like about.com, ehow, hubpages, infobarrel and article directories, panda update which kills made for adsense sites and sites with too many ads that runs every 3-4 weeks and 3 more named updates(i'm not aware of their official or social names) that cleans the search index from public pages and replaces it with corporate ads and sites on front pages (which is again hot topic these days as it kills natural ranking and gives boost to advertisers in search results). You can read here about anti-affiliate update (though google has it's own aff network but they want to kill sites with aff link on front page). Another mono-poly trick which is not publisher friendly. I can go on and on but i don't care about it anymore as my plans are long term earning on net and not short term by wasting time manipulating SERPS. 4) I may post thread with linkworth soon. If you are interested in making money with text links then i gues linkworth and text link ads are good option. Just make sure you choose advertisers within your niche and not outside it.

I used to waste a lot of time browsing from one webmail account to another. I have 2 mail accounts for the normal friend and family usage. Another 3 for the business and other stuff where i keep the personal matter aside and have made more connection. But it was hard for me to manage all these emails on web. I mean webmail takes more time to load for me as i'm on slow speed connection. I use USB dongle for the wireless access to the internet and often found slow speed at varying times of the day. I tried outlook but never got satisfied with the issues with domain provider and decided not to use it. Then i got thunderbird last month and some of my problems are solved. I use thunderbird on my desktop and laptop whenever i want. I can check multiple email ids from different domains and it's easy to organize stuff. Google mail can use IMAP protocol and can use it for mail forwarding and usage. I also found the hotmail and yahoo supporting hunderbird. But my usage was restricted to domain mails and 2 gmail, hotmail accounts. By using them via IMAP i found that it saves a lot of my time. I don't know if anyone done this already but for me, it was time saver. I check thunderbird every hour and it also lets me clear the inbox quickly in comparison to webmail. So i can maintain speed and check even at slow internet connection. This is really good method for anyone who wants to save time checking webmail. Only issue was with time when i can't use my own laptop and desktop in certain places, like family friends dekstop. I used virtualbox image and portable linux then use it on anyone's desktop or laptop for surfing. This helps me keep my data safe and also it doesn't tamper with someone else thunderbird and PC. So this is good idea for anyone who wants to save time. I still want to see if there are any plugin or add-ons that syncs mail with other devices like tablet. I'll be checking for that as of now. So which desktop mail client you use ? thunderbird or outlook or any other ?

I don't know why and how i missed this post of yours but just found this reply because it was bumped this month. Which part of it makes *BLEEP* to you ? a free software that detects license when it was made free for buyers ? if it was made free then why they detect volume license users as pirated or cracked to begin with. Another thing is that free software that detects such stuff is not free at all and in fact made to cut customers to begin with, if that's *BLEEP* to you then keep harping your fanboi BS. that's good for laugh. free software created to clean security issues of OS which 99% full of security holes and oh wait the antivirus solution which fixes this and is lightweight, that's another joke. . MSE is not avilable for volume license users as well. If that makes you think they've no right to use windows or MSE, then seriously bow our of this post chasing against me. There is life on internet. Apples and lemons are off topic in antivirus topic, not even qualify for analogy. Malwarebyte was compared plenty of times against AVG. If you're not aware of this then please update yourself. Where you got impression that i was comparing malware tool for virus solution ? need glasses ? I don't understand your post chasing and flaming to every thread i post, so better come up with some decent reply instead of BS. or should i report your post chasing to me to moderators, i'm sure they noticed this crap already.

If you're going to work acccording google government then i cant suggest link selling or ad selling at all. You have to wait for the traffic to pile up upto 50,000 per day in order to get accepted to buysellads.com or similar other sites. There are some other networks which offer selling of ad spaces or links, but none of them are in medical domain. So i don't know if there are advertisers to be targeting anywhere. Most of the reviews are bad for adjungle becasue many high traffic sites who are in between BSA network and others requirement have no other network to join. So if they reviewed the adjungle for the low price then i can't understand why they bothered with it to begin with. I mean adjungle is low payer but you're not risking much. You should only use subdomain blogs or similar other small properties on their network. That is what i'm doing. That way if anything damaging happens then surely i won't be affected. What type of damage ? anything from site sandbox to total penalty which they can give randomly to any site anytime based on their mood. Google considers itself as internet police and thinks link buying is bad, even though google adwords and adsense itself is link selling and there are many sites selling links on each others site everyday. So buying or selling link is black hat business, not even gray. But considering the google panda update which changes every 3 weeks, ranking on google hardly matters. You're at front page for one day and next day you're not, also personal search makes it hard for you to be on front page for all people. You can be on page 3 for me and page 1 for another person. So if this is the way thing are going then it hardly matters if you're selling links or selling ad banners. Linkworth is one more network which has more benefits for publishers. I have seen that many publishers getting better results using this network. This network basically puts your site into marketplace and then advertisers bid for the amount. Same like any other ad network. Then you have to accept the offer of higher bidder. I may review this ad network in another thread because it deserves the attention for those who are interested in link selling or buying. But issues are there like more traffic is requirement, they also consider alexa rank. I don't know why fake alexa ranking is important, same with PR. But they have these criteria and if you are into adjungle and want to try links on main domain then try linkworth.

Check this image of my about firefox dialog box. This is how it is going on for me right now. You can see the note of "You are currently on the release update channel". This seems to be the issue as of now. Not sure if this is good thing or the bad thing. I mean if it is going to start update every time i click on about box then it is bad i guess. I don't want forced update unless there is security issue. Mozzila seems to be obsessed with the updates related to the version numbers. Also what is this release update channel ?. is this notification you're also getting ? or is it just few selected folks like me getting annoyed with it ?. I want to know what the hell is going on with their new updating policy. This looks pretty much annoyance than convenience to me.
-
I just checked the about link in the help> about firefox. I found that it started updating on its own from there. I failed to stop it because there was no way to do that other than restarting firefox. I think they're officially keeping people under release channel. You'll find this line in Help> about firefox box. "You're currently signed under release update channel". I don't know how they signed me under that and how am i supposed to get out of it. So just updated the firefox without thinking much about the add-ons. Most of my add-ons are upgraded without any glitches. My add-ons are : ad block plus, ghsotery, lazarus, personas, xmarks etc. So they're all working fine for me as of now. I heard some folks are having issues with lastpass. I am not using it on firefox as of now. So it is basically not usable for me. I think you can upgrade to version 6 if your add-ons are supporting it. They also came up with new plugin checker version that checks the plugins on firefox and if they need any update. They open new web page and ask you to update any player or plugin if it is not upgraded at all. I think most of us can find it easy that way. Other than that there are not much of changes and i guess this release was made to clear the bugs in the system. I don't know why they're obsessed with weekly or monthly releases. Anyway, let me know how update goes for you.
-
You're using windows version ? Because i'm also using windows version and it is not asking me for the update. Maybe you opted for nightly updates ? there is also nothing mentioned on their website or blog about this update. Atleast there is nothing for me to see. They may update the site today or tomorrow for this. As for their official notes on version numbering you can check this entry. As for off-topic, i guess we're on firefox topic, so platform hardly matters because both platforms are likely to have same version numbering and the releases. There is a lot discussed about the firefox and the version numbering and quick releases here as well. Most of the issues are related to the add-ons and the previous updates being comptible with the windows or any platform version. I guess it is good that they're not expoliting platform features and keeping browser only to the restricted use of browsing and not communicating much with the desktop of the respective platform. I hope that they give enough time to the developers of the add-on to make add-ons compatible with the new version of ff. Otherwise same set of add-ons will be incompatible for quite some time and it'll remain the same situation for atleast months and developers are likely to discard the add-on updates and move onto something other projects. There is always this chance with mozzila or any other browser which makes such things related to the version upgrades.
-
I heard from some of the IRC mozzilla maintainers that they're quickly going to release future versions in upcoming weeks. they're actually following pattern of "release early, release often". I guess that way they're keeping the community active. I don't know how many bugs and issue are likely to pass if they come up with firefox 6 and 7. But they did announced that they're going to post version 7 soon. So expect the update about the new versions upto end of this year. I dont think the new versions are going to be any better. Besides there is also issue of add-ons and for the same reason maintainers feel that there should be decent gap between two updates. Many add-ons during 4.5 were broken and i think they're not even updated in 5 th update. So it's possible that they may take some time between version 6 and 7. As for new version not capable of backward compatiility between office suits or banking account. I doubt that in future versions. If they're on old updates like FF3 or so then they need to update eventually. I mean HTML5 is making things easy and clean. So they have to update the browser compatibility atleast once in year. Most of the mozzila updates are always work for some of the changes with webpages for year or so. Some sites which are not updated for years may see some less benefit. But i doubt that bank websites will have any issues. They're likely to run fine on updated versions of mozzila. That is for sure.

Chitika Review eMinimalls, Pay per click program Review
mahesh2k replied to OpaQue's topic in Online Advertising
I used that on sites like infobarrel and some of the others. I noticed that it works great if you have traffic from US and Canada. For traffic outside these two countries there is no gain for you. You're most likely to lose the amount of money from the other traffic. So it is always better to use the chitika for your US based traffic and show other ads for other traffic. There are some plugins that can help for such rotation. I have used on geo targeting rotation based plugin for wordpress. I guess there are some other plugins for joomla and other CMS. So i guess it is possible for those other CMS or custom coded simple site. Note that position of the ad is also important. I have seen that ad at the bottom of the page works good for chitika. You can add the shopping widget or the contexual ad at the bottom of the page. I can see that there may be chance where users may bounce back before scrolling down. So make sure you use sky scraper ad in the sidebar of the page. You'll get some clicks from the sidebar too. I noticed that already when i used yieldbuild on my site. Some of my observation for the chitika is that you will get good support from the chitika support team. But they do quick response to the active accounts only. For inactive accounts, they don't care to support which is not good if you're new on their system. Make sure to use contact form email in suh case. Another thing noticed that if used with performing site then you're likely to get more traffic and hits to chitika than any other way. So get some hits to your site or host chitika code on site that already has enough traffic. If you cant do either then chitika is not for you. Domain add-on feature makes sure that you get paid for the ads on site where your domain is hosted. So you have to add the domin where you are hosting chitika and your content. If you're into revenue sharing then make sure to get that domain under your domain add-on feature. once added they verify the quality of domain and then they manually approve in few days. This is what i noticed about chitika. I do have few other observations about chitika and will let you know about it in future posts. -
Best Thing For Making Website Templates! website templates
mahesh2k replied to addict's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Handcoding sometimes takes more time and for minor quick build projects artisteer can be good. There is also divine project coming for the photoshop users. They can now simply place the things on photoshop program and then just export the stuff to wordpress. I think this is similar to the artisteer concept but if you are into photoshop then and only then it is useful for you. I can not imagine using dreamweaver or NVU for the similar usage because there is a lot of stuff in it. I mean first create XHMLT4 verified document and then get each piece corrected into pieces for the wordpress template. So in such conditions it is always better to use automated projects like artisteer and divine project. That will surely save a lot of time of anyone who is into wordpress coding. Same is the case for artisteer while doing some quick HTML based pages. I think many users can get stuff done easily using this type of softwares. There are many options which you can manage and get the layout as per your liking. I have noticed this with some of the sites. But there are some things to note - excessive tags and too much clutter with namespace. You'll find it hard to navigate around the code with their namespace given. I think there is also issue of excessive tags that i have noticed and i would like to manage on my own tags in themes which are supported for the wordpress. Other than that you can use this for getting things done quickly, i'm sure you'll find it better. -
I got some mixed answers from stackoverflow. You can check the thread. I dont want to give my ID over there so it'll be mixup here and there. But you can checkout that thread. I have seen that there are some folks who say manning, apress and wrox publishing are better. I don't know what makes them say that but considering the poor quality of the books i digress to comment.i noticed that some of the titles under these publications are not worth buying. You'll hardly ever learn anything from these guys. For example, check manning book -"ironpython in action". it is written in form like some seminar notes or some workshop stuff. i never found out anything good with their books. authors are well known developers but i think there are some middle agents who write stuff for them. so it is definitely not worth to buy. same is the case with apress and wrox. i just hate their stuff. i mean you can't learn anything from the wrox and similar books at all. Starch press is one for the open source tech. but they have limited titles and some of them are worth to buy. I have not yet seen any worthy programming titles from them. so waiting for that before keeping them under ignore mode like wrox and apress. As for o'reilly i don't know what to say. basically they just publish the documentation of the programing language and then randomly make comments on it. *sigh* it is really hard to get good books on technology these days. What do you think ?

Check my last posts because there are some interesting links about this new platform. As PDC2011 is in September i can't comment much on the platform. But spoilers from some bloggers say that this platform is not .NET only. it accepts HTML5/CSS/JS into it. Also they're adding XAML and WPF directly to this platform along with .NET so. It is partial death for COM/WIND32 and .NET. Because web developers now can code apps easily from their knowledge of the current skill sets. So it is not just .NET platform on the operating system anymore. The framework will be updated and there are chances of curbing few things. But i got few hints from the developers on the forums that they're not going to cut .NET that easily. Considering java's domination along with other languages that rely on C# these days for platform in other OS. As for visual appeal ? true. they're adding a lot of stuff to attract users from other OS. They're making windows a much better experience. but the issue is that they're thinking more about desktop platform dependent on web than any other. I just hope that traditional languages and the stuff remains on the new desktop because if we move to new desktop like inux then surely the work we do with old apps which are windows dependent are not going to work. So this is the reason i'm still using linux for now. otherwise i don't care about .net removal and i can switch to linux anytime i wish by making changes in my work.

As i said earlier, there are some internal developer spoilers coming out from the MS lounge. I found that .NET is likely to be supported to some extent. But considering the involvement on XAML, HTML5 and CSS, it is not much. There are some developers who got internal hint frm the MSDN community found that MS is going to support C++, C#, XAML, JS/HTML and VB for their jupiter framework. This framework was reborn after the failure of longhorn. Now they're allowing developers from all three sides to develop on this framework. You'll see that that they're allowing web developers and desktop developers to use this framework to code for their Windows 8 OS. It is good move in my opinion but not sure how long .NET and C# are going to move with it. You can read about this here. There was also QA session for CNET team by microsoft and they answered many questions recently. You can read more about that here. You'll find that most of the doubts related to the windows 8 developers are covered. Not sure upto what extent, but i got some satisfactory hints from it knowing that C# will be there for some time. Other than all this there is also one more spoiler blog post that answers most of the questions raised in this thread. You can read about that spoiler on new dev system here. I'm also keeping in touch with some of the developer threads and PDC2011 event to know what is coming next. So i'll update based on the answers from these sources. Let's see till then i guess there is nothing to worry for the C# developers.

Text link ads are very less in the market and many times some members don't approach them because of fear of search engine. For example, google which is these days acting like government on moral policing on what is and what is not good for web and sites. So that is the reason many text link ad networks are not doing good on these sites. I have seen that there are some niche sites which don't do good with CPM and adsense based sells. In such cases it is better to sell text ads through them. There are some CPM based program as well that goes on every type of site but you need to be focused publisher in order to get accepted by those networks. I prefer to use text link ads when i face such issues these days. I use text link ads on sites where other ad networks don't perform good or have no way of performing good. You can also consider rotating text link ads network in such case. So i found adjungle while looking for such text ad networks which are niche focused.Adjungle is text ad network that accepts niche market. You'll find some advertisers who are seeking link presence on other site. You'll find that terms are based on publishers criteria and networks criteria. There are both good and bad sides of this. Just make sure that you don't get abused through such network if any advertiser asks for low rate and takes advantage. I can't reveal much information about type of site and the advertiser as it'll not do me any good. But you can expect some decent payment through such network.

I checked chrome OS to test if that is the path on which MS wants to go. Basically chrome OS is stripped down version of linux. There is only one application running that is browser all the time. All the google services are seen on the browser most of the time and they want users to access the services. I initially thought this is the way microsoft was heading. But i guess there are too many things that MS as platform carrying and they can't unplug this burden just like that. So considering c++ and HTML5/CSS as future choice for them for desktop development. I think many resource hungry yet important applications like say photoshop, matlab and other stuff is simply beyond capability of HTML5/CSS. Considering C++ as future language of .NET for MS platform. I wonder if the old win32 prog days are coming back with new api ? I mean the reason C# was making sense was because language like C# is much easy to maintain in case of memory management for apps. I don't know what is going on with them. There are not much of workshops or announcement for the new release either. It is totally mystery for me to see the way with this is going on. Just going to keep tab at it until they release the final version.
-
Herb stutter from C++ Committee is working with microsoft so it is obvious that they're keeping atleast c++ alive with their windows 8. Only issue is that rest of the languages will either depend on HTML+CSS based framework and .NET will be dumped for developers. This is what causing the issue between developers and the team. I don't know what could be result of all this. But considering the pressure they're getting from developers, they're likely to keep some part of the .net or other languages alive. Not sure what could be that reason. But if most of the languages which are supported and nurished on win are removed then surely it is victory for linux desktop. They're going to keep users on linux desktop because linux is also internet dependent OS and considering microsoft's movement of cloud and tablets, they're ignoring desktop market.
-
I checked some of the silverlight developers blog and found this. I dont know what are the technologies that are going to be removed from new version of windows. But simply relying on WPF or HTML5 for operating system and for windows forms seems to be the worst idea of this year or decade. I mean there are some seriously resource heavy applications that need some more support from the languages in which they're built. I have seen that vb, c sharp and c++ are good languages and killing them for the sake of new OS is just not right. Not sure what they finalized this time. but you can see map of disconitnued programs and languages here. Some more interesting things to read are here. You'll observe that this is going to be more worst for developers. I don't know what is the future of visual studio and other respective programs. I just hope that they keep all those languages and .NET framework alive on their side. Or maybe developers have to move to better operating system for the coding.

There is a lot of talk going on between developers these days about .NET and it's future. Most of the desktop development was dependent on C++, C#,VB and other languages on windows. But it seems that new windows is likely to close .NET for developers only to restrict them to HTML+JS+CSS3 based application. At first this may be good news for some web developers but to be strict on desktop development, building audio, video and photography applications that take more system resources are hard to develop with HTML+JS. Not to forget there are other heavy and production level apps as well. So by making apps dependent on browser there seems to be some big issue for application developers those who don't use or connect their apps to HTML+CSS. Take example of mathamatica or matlabs for example, they have nothing to gain from web browser based apps as the app itself is big enough take loads for calculation and graphing stuff. But by making it HTML+CSS based app there is going to be a lot of clutter going to be in it. Microsoft has plans for adding C++ to this API as well. But it is quite clear that they're going to dump .NET and dependent apps on it. Officially they are not making any comment about future of developers on .NET platform. It is something like attracting developers to this platform then making that platform part of OS and suddenly drop the whole project for nothing. So it looks like microsoft is thinking about moving to Azure platform and going to make OS similar to chrome OS (which is internet dependent and browser only). Not sure if developers and other investors will agree with it. But it seems that there is hardly anything they are going to show developers to make any final conclusion. But if this happens then chances are there that desktop publishers will find linux or other platform for their apps and business as not all apps are worthy of being browser dependent or CSS+HTML5fish. You can read countless rants about this on ars.technica and many other developer news sites. Even silverlight official forum is writing open letter to microsoft to keep .NET alive which you can read on their official forum. You can read more about this news here and here and here. I'm not sure if many people will stop from upgrading to windows 8 or will keep with win 7 for next few more years. But assuming azure and web based OS as solution makes me think like this could be one bad move from microsoft. I'm of opinion that desktop apps have more use than online apps. So not sure why every tech giant is beating for online os and services even though they know that carriers like AT&T, SPICE and Orange are literally charging per byte and cloud OS or apps makes it harder for them to use computer. So any .NET developer here ? what do you think about windows 8 and it's future for developers ?

Some ads require manual removal. I don't know why but i guess it is because they don't want page element drop in automode. I have found that they ask you to do this manually. This is a big task and sometimes you have to disable the page elements which are more than 20 in number. I have one local site which has more than 20 elements (ads and trackers, widgets). You can guess how annoying that alert bubble is coming on that page. So i disabled that alert bubble as well. Ghostery add-on not only deleted the visible graphic and js trackers but also text link trackers like alexa and similar others. This is good feature in my opinion. I didn't noticed huge difference in load time but for some regular sites i guess less HTTP queries means speed is improved. So for imageless site only these ads were taking the speed. So in such case speed looks improved but for forums where there are more images and js scripts. I don't know how to measure speed improvements. By the way i didn't posted link for the ghostery, so just go to ghostery.com and from there you can download the add-on for your browser. I don't think you need to go to firefox add-on repository for the download because my download starts from their site itself. This looks good to me. I'm sure they have some other means for ad networks to show ads. Anyway, overall concept looks good to me.

This is one more service that stops web tracking and ad tracking on your browser. This add-on basically stops advertisers from doing anything that tracks your location, and other information. this add-on is capable of blocking ads, trackers, behavioral ads, quantcast, alexa and compete trackers. You can use this add-on for blocking these services and also improve your downloading speed. By blocking these ads and trackers your browser makes less HTTP calls and you get to see more content and less ads and spyware. Google ads, analytics and other stuff can be blocked using this add-on. It doesn't affect to your browsing experience at all. If you prefer to surf without these treackers then ghostery is good add-on. Again it all depends on you how you want to use this service. Add-on is avialble with google chrome, internet explorer, firefox, opera for now. there are no other browsers supported at the moment. safari is supported but there are some bugs with it. Most important thing is that they don't collect personal information or browser ID etc fromyou. Service is totally free of cost and add-ons are also regularly updated. SO if you hate those ad and analytics trackers that slow your browsing then download ghostery.
