  1. You have a nice grungy grey background on your site, but unfortunately it doesn't fit the overall theme or look of the site itself. The logo needs a lot of work, as it currently simply displaying the URL of the site. You should:(a) make a logo with the "Dark Answer" brand with a different font or logotype that stands out to both new visitors and returning users of your site;( avoid using the URL "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; since nowadays it is unprofessional to do so in web design, plus you don't own or have access to that domain, which is likely to mislead returning users to the wrong address. On the content of the pages, I found the blue 'Welcome' text strange and unusual. I would recommend personally using different shade of blue for the heading while using dark grey or black for the body text.
  2. Looks like your site is down because the account has been suspended by the host.
  3. Nice site indeed. One of the main points I like about your site is its unique style, especially with the character illustration with the logo. It would be a good idea, however, to change the logo font since it appears too narrow and as a result becomes hard to read.Next, I would like to point is with the loading speed of the site. Although the host server itself is quite slow in terms of connection speed, it will really help if you optimised your images to decrease their file size. For example, the logo banner is currently 219KB in size, whereas the size of an optimised version with the same visual quality as the original is only 68KB.Regarding the coding of the site itself, it would be advisable to move all the embedded styles in the HTML to your CSS file, further ensuring no unnecessary duplication of styles and reducing the overal file size.Apart from the minor optimisation points, the overal graphical design portrays the true comical nature of your site. Good work!
  4. Wufoo, an online HTML form builder, has recently become popular in making forms without having to learn the coding / programming needed for both the frontend and backend. Apart from being easy to implement, it is also highly customisable, in regards to the colour scheme down to the layout of the form fields. I highly recommend this service because it produces excellent HTML forms and is free to use. Check it out: http://www.wufoo.com/
  5. The site as a whole has a fitting and appropriate colour scheme for the 'Software Santa' idea, although there is insufficient contrast in some ways e.g. between dark red and dark green, the text becomes hard to read. The icons need a bit of work to smooth out the pixelated edges in the middle, in addition to the small white jagged pixelated edges of the Santa face in the top right of the page.
  6. The logo banner is well done with a grungy type effect. On the page layout and graphics, I find the white, grey and black colour scheme for the site to be a bit dull. Further adding to the overall dull feeling is the yellow-brown colour of the hyperlinks in that it fails to stand out significantly from the rest of the text. In a way, I also feel that the footer doesn't match the overall design of the page, in that it is the only rounded object on the page and has a colour that doesn't match those of the general colour scheme of the site.In all, the logo plus banner at the top is the only object that really stands out on your site.
  7. Your new blog would do good with a new logo, since the current logo looks a bit outdated with the plastic bevelled icon and straight reflection. Also, the logo banner would look better without the URL caption text above the logo itself. On the layout of page, it looks good with the three column layout, although I find the continous scrolling widgets on the left side both annoying and useless. The right column, on the other hand. is nicely done, with the subscription form nicely placed at the top with the author biography. I also found the Blog stats at the bottom of the right column unnecessary and a waste of space, in that it merely forces the user to scroll more in order to reach the footer.Overall, a good effort, but it still needs a lot of work to get up to the standard of other more prominent blogs.
  8. I remember that there is a subscription site that stores all your passwords on their secure servers, where the passwords can be retrieved by the persons' relatives when the person dies. I suppose it is designed to save the hassle of having to provide the death certificate to each site where the relatives want to retrieve the contents of the deceased account, instead they can just provide the certificate to the password storage vault operator and retrieve the passwords immediately. Of course, there are significant security risks, as any hacker who gains unauthorised access to the password vaults would be able to find and use the stored password.
  9. It is inevitable that certain proxy sites become blocked as they are discovered by schools and universities. But as they become banned and inaccessible, more proxy sites are being created to bypass existing filters and allow others to continue to access banned sites through the proxy. The only difficult thing is finding the right proxy that is not banned and usable.
  10. You will only ever need to use Blu-Ray if you have a Full-HD High Definition Television and really want to use the full potential of the TV's resolution when watching movies to the greatest detail. Personally, at the moment, considering the cost of Blu-Ray movies and the players themselves, it probably isn't worth buying. DVDs themselves are the best choice these days as the cost of the players and discs themselves have significantly dropped over the last few years ever since Blu-Ray discs were introduced as an alternative format in the market. The only use of Blu-Ray in my view would its use as storage disc, consdering it can hold 25GB on a single layer compared to the 4.7GB storage capacity of DVDs.If you are investing in a high-quality Home Theater set, you may as well invest in a Blu-Ray player to fully utilise the features of Home Theater.
  11. I suppose that the "Welcome" text on the starting user interfaces of most electronic devices is just a greeting to the user and really serves no purpose other that pure politeness. Maybe the designers / developers put into the user interfaces just to make the device more human and less boring to the average user, although I rarely think anyone really notices the text when it pops up on the screen.
  12. I don't think I will be getting the Droid phone, considering that I have been wanting to get the Apple iPhone ever since it came out in 2007. In some ways, I feel the Droid phone is more for those in the open source or developer community who want a flexible mobile development framework to work on the create new applications and such, while the Apple iPhone is more centered towards the general consumer public with its vast library of applications and games tailored for the iPhone available in the App Store.
  13. I actually like using the Steam platform, especially when playing multiplayer games. Reason is that the Steam server browser and connection protocols are more streamlined and efficient when compared to games that have implemented their own multiplayer platforms, which are often buggy and glitched, and require significant effort and testing in order to get the multiplayer working. With Counte Strike Source and Team Fortress 2, the two games I have bought with Steam, I have never encountered any problems with its multiplayer game workings, unlike other games like Rainbow Six Vegas 2 which have some issues with multiplayer that prevent certain computers from hosting while others can successfullly host games. I suppose the only negative of buying a game using the Steam platform is having to download the entire game through the Steam network, instead of just installing the game from a DVD in the case of buying the game retail from the local game shop.
  14. The only thing I'm waiting for in the Halo series is for the first person shooter Halo 3 and real time strategy Halo Wars to be ported to PC so I can have the chance to play it. I'm not really a fan of playing games on consoles, especially not real time strategy games, so I haven't considered buying the console versions of those games. But based on the previous games Halo and Halo 2, it is unlikely Microsoft will release a PC version of the games any time soon, considering that in the past it has taken them a few years before the games were ported to PC.
  15. Interesting indeed.Although I did not have any problems running Grand Theft Auto IV with a NVIDIA GeForce 9600GT (1GB Memory) except for the minor lag as a result of running the game at 1920x1200 resolution, my brother had severe graphical problems running the game on his laptop with a GeForces 9500M GS. It was quite obvious that his laptop's graphics processor was struggling to even produce textures let alone a number of frames per second, with the most of the environmental textures replaced by grey boxes and the character of Niko Bellic not even appearing on-screen. Considering the size of the game files themselves, around 14GB+, a considerably powerful graphics card is needed in orderto run the game.
  16. I'm going to get Assassin's Creed 2 when it comes out on PC, aronud March 2010. I enjoyed playing its prequel Assassin's Creed, apart from the some repetition in some mission aspects and gameplay. I am particular excited about its release and looks forward to getting the chance to play it on PC, considering that there is more action, variety in missions and a larger arsenal of weapons available in Assassin's Creed 2 from what I have seen from the various trailers published on game review sites.
  17. The best GTA game for me was Grand Theft Auto 4. The realistic graphics of the game were a major improvement over previous games like Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, where when I look back now, the game models looked artificial and lacking in realistic detail. Furthermore, I found the storyline missions both exciting and unique to play, with a broad range of different mission types and locations where the missions were played out in. One particular aspect, the ability to make your own choice during certain missions e.g. choosing which target to take down, make the storyplaying less linear and more open when compared to previous GTA games. Besides, the special effects available in-game, such as the drunken intoxication effect, added another level of realism into the game where others have not tried, although I found the blurriness and constant shaking of the screen sickening. However, the only portion of the game I didn't like was the limited range of weapons to choose from, considering the expansive set available in previouos Grand Theft Auto games.I also quite enjoyed playing Grand Theft Auto 2 back in the early days, with the top-down overhead view and good graphics setting it apart from other games of its time.
  18. There are plenty of Pipes developed by others in the community available for browsing on the Yahoo Pipes own website (http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/). From what I have been able to gather, you are free to copy, modify and expand on other developer's existing Pipes, so that would be the best place to start if you are trying to understand the mechanisms behind each pipe and apply it into your our custom Pipe. From my personal experience, I have found the Yahoo Pipes framework difficult to work with in certain situations, apart from combining RSS feeds into a single feed.
  19. It will be really hard to find a Silverlight editor application for free on the Internet. However, if you are a student, you can get a free copy of Microsoft Expression Studio through the Microsoft Dreamspark program, which includes the application Microsoft Expression Blend (one of the tools you can use to create Silverlight applications. Microsoft Expression Blend: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Microsoft Dreamspark program for students: https://imagine.microsoft.com/en-US/Home In terms of learning how to program with Silverlight, you can look at books on Amazon such as Beginning Silverlight or Foundation Expression Blend to build your understanding in this platform. If you prefer learning Silverlight through web tutorials, you can access resources such as Kirupa.com (https://www.kirupa.com/blend_silverlight/index.htm) or Microsoft's own Silverlight tutorial center (https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt788662).
  20. I also use xe.com to find exchange rates for assignments, transactions etc. However, it is a real shame though that Paypal tends to have their own exchange rates that differ significantly from real world exchange rates, so xe.com becomes less useful as a result for those changing currencies in Paypal.
  21. There seems to be plenty of programs available online if your search Google for 'rar file repair'. However, I have personally been unable to repair corrupt RARs in the past, especially RAR files that do not have a recovery record inside the file. Although not impossible, the chances of successful repair are quite low, so the best option is to simply redownload or recopy the RAR files again. If you are downloading RAR files from the Internet, bear in mind that it is possible that the RAR file could have been corrupted on upload too and not just limited to downloading.
  22. Interestingly, the link is for the Logitech diNovo Edge keyboard and not the G15.Anyway, on the topic, the keyboard has excellent features in comparison with similar keyboards, especially the back-lit keys and integrated LCD screen. I'm not really a fan of macro keys though, in that I would not specifically try to buy a keyboard with such extra keys. I don't play any games that having macro keys would give me an advantage in anyway e.g. Team Fortress 2. I am currently using a Microsoft Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 that similarly has backlit keys. However, most of its features are geared towards improving media center functionality, like volume and channel controls plus a trackpad. I really like the convenience of a dedicated volume control provided by the keyboard. Also, it runs a bluetooth, which gives me the convenience of moving the keyboard where I like e.g. when I am making notes from textbooks.Do you generally use wireless keyboards and mice for gaming?
  23. Well, I found it even more funny watching the video of Michael Jackson's hair on fire after an fireworks accident during a Pepsi advertisement filming sequence. I suppose that because he had a lot of money to spend on covering up problems with a false nose and a wig.
  24. This is indeed very very old news. I think these SkypeOut free calls were simply a marketing promotion for a while, since it does cost Skype money for every call out made, which now is paid by the users who use this service. It simply wouldn't be sustainable to maintain these free calls to real landline phones.Skype is still useful if your have contacts overseas that you want to talk to without having to pay very expensive fees, with it being free if you both of the Skype VoIP service installed.
  25. Currently the largest SDHC (Secure Digital High Capacity) is production is 32GB, with the price rising significantly with each storage step up. The 2TB is just the maximum capacity that the SDXC is specificed to support.
