  1. Thanks for the fast reply!I'll wait for the server admins to upgrade their servers before creating an account.
  2. Also, the CSS reference from W3Schools can be found at: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ It contains more advanced information about CSS including browser support for certain CSS syntax.
  3. Learning Adobe Dreamweaver is not that hard, but learning the HTML and CSS coding to actually create a site will take longer. I suggest you find a book to read on the subject matter, such as "Learning Web Design" or "The Essential Guide to Dreamweaver CS3 with CSS, Ajax and PHP". They should give you a good understanding of what you will need to know in order to create your site from scratch. Other than that, you can also have a look at online tutorials on how to design and develop your own site.
  4. No operating system is perfect, so that is why Windows Vista is a "work in progress". I think if the intended features of Windows Vista were to be included, the operating system would have become even more bloated. Personally, I feel that Microsoft should give up trying to improve Windows Vista (a waste of time really, because the core of Windows Vista is a mess already), and concentrate on creating the new Windows 7 that will live up to expectations of its users.
  5. I find that the volume icon disappears from my taskbar in Windows XP occasionally when I log on into Windows before the hard disk lights stop blinking. The reason for this problem is likely that the taskbar is loaded after the volume control is loaded, causing the volume icon not to exist. My solution would be to wait until Windows finishes loading before logging into my user account.
  6. Hello, Whenever I try creating a new account, I keep getting the following message: Is there anything I can do? Regards, Atomic0
  7. To me, the logo looks a bit plain and does not stand out much. The main part of the logo, i.e. the text 'DWA', needs to be different colour to the background in order for it to stand out. Also, you should aim to keep the image sharp and not blurry to make it look more interesting.
  8. It should not really affect the Windows XP operating system itself, but some programs may be unable to locate necessary files. For example, if certain settings or files are stored at C:\Settings\ and you've changed the drive letter from C:\ to G:\, programs may be unable to find the files it is looking for. But most programs should allow you to correct this.
  9. Windows operating systems are good for general use because many commercial programs are designed mostly to run on Windows natively, and don't need emulators (e.g. Wine) to run these programs. Without using an emulator, there are significant speed improvements to program usability. However, using Linux is better on the security side as Linux is less exposed to malware and vulnerabilities that Windows operating systems are subject to.On the topic on virtualisation, Windows Server 2003 runs quite well in a virtual machine on my Pentium 4 machine, and is significantly faster compared to running Windows XP in a virtual machine.
  10. Thank you for your extremely useful tutorial on speeding up Firefox. Before I read you tutorial/article, the only way I knew how to speed up Firefox was to use the Network.HTTP.Pipelining option to force the client to make more connections. However, I have observed that having too many max requests can have the opposite effect on the speed of Firefox, as it slows the load speed down considerably.
  11. I have never really used any shortcut hotkeys in Photoshop before, but since I will start using a graphics tablet more often, I don't think it is that much of a time saver. The only advantage is that you don't have to look for the tool on the screen, you can just press the right set or combination of keys to activate the tool.
  12. I currently have Adobe CS2 installed on my computer. I did try the Adobe Photoshop CS3 on a virtual machine, and I really liked the new GUI design that minimises the amount of space the toolboxes and other windows take up. The introduction of the new Adobe Device Central that helps you when designing for mobile devices.Overall, I am looking forward to the new suite of Adobe CS3 programs, especially Flash CS3.
  13. You should always expect not to get the 'best' technical answers if you use a free technical support service provided by newspapers. I find that computer magazines give better answers to technical questions as they are more experienced and knowledgeable that most other people. You shouldn't expect 'great' answers if the person is not getting paid by you for helping you as a technical support person.
  14. I think that MTASC is more Actionscript (the scripting language used in Macromedia/Adobe Flash) based. I don't think it is designed for graphics. Most graphic applications should have the ability to convert images into SWF files. However, if you need advanced features in Flash, you may as buy Flash (the price depends if you buy Basic or Professional and also if you buy as a educational user).
  15. I used to use Virtual PC 2004 until it became so slow to use that I decided to try VMware Workstation 5. I was shocked about the faster speed that VMware ran Windows XP compared to Virtual PC 2004.But now I think the speeds have evened as Microsoft has recently released Virtual PC 2007, also as a free download. It runs OSs faster than Virtual PC 2004, with a set of new features. For now I am staying with VMware Workstation as is more cross-platform as it supports a variety of host operating systems and guest operating systems.
  16. Looking at the screenshots on the official website, I must say the GUI has been done simply and without too much. However, the visual styles and mouse icons remind me of the old Mac OS GUI. I was going to try it on a virtual machine using VMWare, but it seems that Syllable OS has certain problems with the virtual machine configuration. But I believe this OS has a potential to provide home users with a simple and easy-to-learn interface.
  17. I have also heard of Daemon Tools, but I prefer using Alcohol 120%. It also has the ability to emulate a wide variety of different imaging formats such ISO, MDS, BWT, CUE etc. The best feature I think it has is the ability to right click on the virtual drive and in the menu, it allows you to choose and image to emulate. It saves times as it does not require the main executable to be opened for you to change the image source. Alcohol Soft Website: http://www.alcohol-soft.com/ In response to the legality of images, it should be legal for you to image the CD or DVD for the purpose of personal backups. It is only illegal when you distribute or acquire the images without paying for the game.
  18. The website is: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I think he is trying to show us the Vista Transformation Pack for Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. Please not that this is not created by Microsoft. When you install this transformation pack, it will replace components in your operating system, such as boot screens, visual styles, icons, wallpapers etc. that make you OS look like Windows Vista. I don't really like to use transformation packs as they can make you system unstable at times (and may lead to more system crashes due to the editing of system files involved). So I believe there is a significant risk in using such program. I would rather get a real version of Windows Vista for the new look design that people at Microsoft worked long hours to create (they need to get paid for their work).
  19. Populis does not provide you with a free domain name. It can be put that they are just providing you with a subdomain of their available domain names and simply hosting that subdomain on their own servers. Pratically, you don't own the domain. You can get free domains elsewhere (but watch out, you have to pay for it somehow through completion of offers or posting). I don't think this is the kind of service you want. Anyway, I signed up just to see how it works. So I decided to register:the website 'staff.populis.com' and the email 'staff@populis.com'. Not a problem at all with the sign up. The only problem is waitiing to receive confirmation email through GMail.
  20. These days domain names get taken really quickly by internet companies. Most of these get domain search data off domain registrars and they register the domain with e.g. Verisign, which offers them 7 day money back for the domain. This way they can try to see if any of these domains earns them revenue from the ads displayed on the web pages. If they domains do not get any views, then they are usually returned to the registrar for their money back.
  21. This website is not associated with Microsoft Corporationg at all. According to WHOIS data publicly available, livedrive.com is registered to a company by the name of LifeDrive Ltd. For online file storage I suggest Box.net, where you can get a Basic account for free with 1GB storage and unlimited bandwidth for those files. It has a simple Web interface for uploading your files. Link: https://www.box.com/
  22. If you wish to recover EFS encrypted files from a older Windows XP system, it is likely that recovering the current passwords will not help you recover the old EFS encrypted files. SAM and SYSTEM are just the files that store passwords for the system and encrypt the passwords. I think what you are looking for is a program for recovering EFS encrypted files. A quick Google search has revealed a number of different programs that can retrieve encrypted files. EFS Key: http://www.lostpassword.com/efs.htm Active FIle Recovery: http://www.file-recovery.net/soft.htm
  23. If a program does not run correctly on Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic, then it run correctly on any version of Microsoft Windows Vista. According the Adobe Inc., Photoshop CS2 is not officially supported on Windows Vista. However, it is runs with minimal known issues. For more information about "How Adobe Products support Windows Vista", please visit: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I have not been able to find any problems with Dofus on Windows Vista. It is very likely to support Vista if it runs on Adobe Flash Player 9 (the game is Flash-based).
  24. The advantage of other partition tools is that many of them have a GUI. Personally, I use the free software called Partition Logic. You can then burn the Live CD and boot from the computer using the CD drive. It is easier to work with partitions with a GUI that clearly labels out the different partitions. Personally, I have never really used FDisk as I am not a fan of command line programs. Partition Logic can be downloaded at: http://partitionlogic.org.uk/
  25. A hacker is can just be a person who specialises in security. It does not neccessarily mean a person who attacks other people's websites or develops 'cracks' for software. The reason that HackThisSite.org is good is because it gives you to opportunity to learn about hacking and how you can apply it to your own website to prevent unauthorised access. It provides an insight into the hacker's mind so that you can prepare against his/her attack. The website also has articles on the variety of different hacking techniques, ranging from SQL injections to cookie editing. All this you can learn about hacking the 'legal' way.
