  1. If you want to be a domain registrar, you will need to attain ICANN Accreditation. ICANN stands for Internet Corporation for Assigned Numbers and Names and is the peak body that controls basically anything to do with domain names. In general, accreditation involves checking your qualifications and financial considerations, among other things. However, there are significant financial expenses that are involved in being a domain registrar with ICANN. This includes a US$2500 application fee, US$4000 yearly accreditation fee, and a variable fee of $1200 to $2000 per quarter. On top of this, you are required to have at least US$70000 in working capital. In conclusion, there are very significant financial hurdles in being a domain registrar. The costs of being a domain registrar are quite high, with it not being economically viable for a single person to start up their own domain registrar business (unless you happen to be a rich person and expect to have a lot of customers). It is not a business that you would really want to start up. More information: https://archive.icann.org/en/registrars/accreditation.htm
  2. I feel that Adobe Photoshop is more suited to my own needs. Also, since I have been using Adobe Photoshop for a very long time, it is easier for me to use the functions in Adobe Photoshop than to have to learn how to use GIMP. In terms of cost, it sort of doesn't cost that much especially if you purchase an education or student version of it.In conclusion, I believe Adobe Photoshop is more 'professional' in its interface and functions compared to the more lightweight GIMP graphics editor.
  3. Frames are rarely used these days in 'real' web design since it has been replaced by CSS, which is easier to use and more feature-rich. Slicing would still be used to convert an image from Adobe Photoshop into a web page, but you should also take time out to re-code the site using CSS.
  4. The reason why the RAM stick is not working is the 800MHz RAM speed is not supported by your motherboard, according to the technical specifications at: http://www.dealtime.com/ASUS-P5VDC-X-S775-VIAPT880U-ATX/products?redir=1&CLT=XPO1&BSC=1 According to that specification, the maximum RAM speed supported for the RAM memory sticks is 533MHz, which basically explains why the RAM memory stick you purchased for the motherboard is not working and functioning. I suggest you either upgrade you motherboard or buy slower RAM memory sticks that have RAM memory speeds of 533MHz or below to ensure it works properly.
  5. I think it is highly likely this is a hardware problem e.g. a certain hardware component not functioning properly. I remember my old computer had Blue Screen of Death probelms because there was a fault with one of the memory RAM sticks (instead of showing 2GB, the operating system could only read 1.5GB i.e. 3 out of the 4 512MB RAM sticks). To help you on this problem, you may need to provide the error codes that are outputted from the Blue Screen of Death message e.g. when my RAM was faulty, the error message was something like PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGE_AREA.By the way, having 4GB of RAM is not really useful, since the 32-bit operating system (assumed since you have a 32-bit processor) cannot read fully the 4GB of RAM unlike 64-bit operating system which can address more memory space.
  6. If you are having USB problems, it is highly there is a hardware related problem either with the motherboard itself or connections between the USB port and the motherboard connector. You may also want to check whether there are problems with the USB drives itself, or its connection with the USB port.
  7. Apparently, from technology news sites, not everyone understands what the ads involving Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates are about. It appears that the ads don't match up to Apple's advertising in terms of its appeal and understanding. Personally, they are better off showing off the Windows Vista operating system and its functions to appeal to consumers to purchase the product.
  8. Most Windows users want to remove User Account Control (UAC), instead of enabling it on more functions. I personally think it is not practical to have the User Account Control prompt up everytime you click on the Windows start button or open a folder. The only use of this really is if you wanted to play around with someone else's computer as a joke.I think the only possible way to change this option would be to edit some registry settings or modify the operating system itself, which would require a high level of programming knowledge and skill. Technically, Microsoft didn't really design the User Account Control to be used in such a way (It was mainly designed to protect the editing of significantly important settings and functions that could affect the operating system in terms of security) so you may not be able to set the User Account Control to do what you want it to do.
  9. I used to play Pokemon on my Gameboy, but that was at least 7-8 years ago. However, for some weird reason, I have friends (17 years) still playing Pokemon games on the Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance. In terms of card, I have a boxful of Pokemon cards sitting in the cupboard, packed away, never to be touched again (I think I have only touched then a few times after purchase). Now, when I look back, I feel that it was a waste of money purchasing those cards that really don't have much choose, especially since I don't play card games.
  10. Personally, I don't really have a taste for driving games, but I remember playing an old version of Need For Speed as a kid, driving around a track many times. For me, when you grow older, you tend to change your game preferences. I suppose the only Need for Speed I really liked was playing the police in one of the Need of Speed games. Nowdays, I tend to prefer Action or First Person Shooting games.
  11. Personally, I feel the Mac Mini is underpowered for my own needs, since it doesn't feature a high-powered CPU, large amounts of RAM or a large hard drive. I would prefer to pay more for a more powerful iMac or MacBook Pro.
  12. ReactOS is currently still in beta and isn't fully ready for mainstream deployment as a distribution / operating system. In terms of its ability to run Windows applications and programs, it is not compatible with all programs, making it not that useful at the current time.
  13. Eventually, it is possible that Linux would take over Microsoft Windows as the dominant operating system used on computer worldwide. All that is needed for Linux to be more feature-rich than Microsoft Windows and be way cheaper than other OSes and it will become the dominant operating system used worldwide.
  14. Simply changing to another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Apple Safari would remove the annoying information bar since these applications do not have one. It is probably more safe and secure not to use Internet Explorer anyway.
  15. MySQL is the most common choice of database for web developers, as it is the most widely available database associated with web hosting plans. I suppose you could use other ones like MSSQL, which may work better if the database server needs to be integrated with other Microsoft applications and services. When building your site, you will probably need more than just Dreameaver, since it can really only help you code the frontend and backend. You will probably need a method of connecting to your database, e.g. PHP or ASP, and an application to edit database content e.g. phpMyAdmin or Navicat.
  16. I am currently on an Optus Cable plan (Australia), 2837 kbs download and 232 kbs upload. The cost of the plan is AU$69.99 monthly (we get 3 months free as bundled with mobile), including 12GB onpeak and 24GB offpeak usage.
  17. Laptops and notebooks are largely the same thing. It is just that two names have been used in the past to describe the same thing. However, there are new notebooks / laptops marketed as 'netbooks', which are small form factor notebooks / laptops that are marketed mainly for accessing the internet on the go without lugging around a large notebook / laptop.
  18. I read somewhere that they put banner ads onto your pages and sometimes redirect visitors to their own websiteThe use of .tk domain extension isn't really that professional. If you intend to setup a proper site, you are better off getting a .com domain, paid through domain registrars or free through free domain websites (which require you to complete offers or post to earn points redeemable for the domain name).
  19. You should be careful when choosing your host based on reviews on Webhosting Rated. I had a quick look and noticed some of their top rated hosts are clearly overselling their hosting services, giving out either ummetered or huge amounts of storage and bandwidth. You probably will find that some may be able to include such amounts of storage and bandwidth in their plans, but it may just be that they are overloading their servers with excessive numbers of websites on a single server, resulting in reduced speeds and lower server stability.
  20. I supposed you are not really using your GMail account on MSN Messenger (or Windows Live Messenger). Rather, you are using the Gmail email address to sign up to a .NET Passport (now called Windows Live ID), and using that ID you are accessing the Messenger IM network run by Microsoft.
  21. I believe Zoho Writer is written in AJAX, which uses XML and Javascript on the client side to provide both access to the backend and interactivity of the UI. However, I still prefer my desktop version of Microsoft Office 2007 over any web-based office tools, since I find desktop ones have better functionality and are easier to use in general.
  22. The easiest way to avoid phishing sites that record your login data is to check the URL of the site you are browsing before entering your personal information, although these days phishing sites are using very similar domain names to trick the user into entering their login data.
  23. Simply disable Javscript all together in the browser would allow you to right click on a right click disabled page.It seems that these days there are less and less websites disabling right click, since it is now considered unprofessionally to disable right click. I suppose if you are really desperate to protect text from being copied, you could always put the text in images or embed it in a Flash SWF file with text selection disabled.
  24. It is possible that the CPU or the motherboard is faulty, causing the computer not to boot up correctly. Your best option if you are not experienced in hardware upgrades is to get your local computer technician to try an identify any problems with your current upgraded configuration. Most have special testing cards to identify problems with the hardware.
  25. Is the multi-touch speculated to be featured in the future MacBook on the screen or the trackpad? I know that the current MacBook Air has a multi-touch trackpad (MacBook Air Features) which allows for the recognition of gestures using more than one finger. EDIT: I have just checked also the MacBook Pro site and found that it also has the multi-touch features already. Link: http://www.apple.com/macbook-pro/
