  1. Wait...is this serious? Like, I don't hate animals or anything, but that's like the point of having cows is to milk them and eat them, etc...as much as I love cows, and milking cows isn't cruel to them in any way... Actually suggesting to use human milk is cruelty to humans... I doubt anyone would want to be treated like an animal like that and seriously, people aren't animals! What will it be next, Peta wanting us to eat human fetuses instead of chicken eggs because laying eggs isn't something we should have chickens for and it's cruel to chickens? Ludicrous!
  2. Just to put in my two cents....I think that children should be exposed to both theories... because it my mind evolution isn't much more scientific than creationism...while I believe that organisms can "evolve" slowly, I don't believe that they can grow entirely new systems of bones and organs through mutation...that's just a ridiculous assertion. However, I don't think creationism should be taught as "science..." though I think if evolution is taught, it should be taught with a big asterisk, and it oftentimes isn't... children should be told that evolution is just a theory that kinda sorta explains some things. While a child doen't necessarily have the mental capacity to make such a decision, they're really impressionable, so only presenting one side of the argument is basically indoctrination.
  3. You're totally right, but it just shows how messed up the media is. Nothing else was going on during katrina so the media hyped the whole thing up so bad, whereas now they're ignoring ike because people would rather hear about the presidential race instead (which shows just how messed up people are because no matter which of the two candidates we get we're screwed cause they're both so bad)... I'm a bit pissed at the media over this too, but at least I'm doing all I can to help right now...
  4. What your daughter did was absolutely awful.... I mean you shouldn't have hit her, as a teenager myself I know something like that is really hurtful and insulting, but given the circumstances that's definitely not abusive... but no matter what the circumstances it's your daughter's fault for being so disrespectful and.... I don't know what to say that can possibly be comforting, but I hope somehow you and your daughter make up.... teenagers are stupid and we do a lot of bad stuff just because we don't know how to deal with some things. I don't know your daughter's situation but assuming it wasn't your fault, either she'll make up with you eventually or else she really does need time away to think about what she did and eventually she'll realize her fault... Don't be too hard on yourself, people aren't perfect and we all snap sometimes.
  5. My mother works extremely hard and it annoys me that the other members of my family don't give her enough credit and are also always complaining about stuff. It's really frustrating how people don't realize how much work each other does...instead we just like to complain to and about others. I have a friend who has this really annoying way of talking down about other people, and it pisses me off that he can't learn just to appreciate other people's merits instead of focusing in on their flaws. Especially if somebody does something to help you, you should be grateful instead of talking down to them or complaining. Also, when someone says "I could have done this job easier myself rather than asking you to do it," it's really frustrating because that's never the case. Even if someone can't do a job as completely as you can, it takes you less energy to come in and fix their shortcomings than it does to do it yourself. And it takes even more energy to complain about others yet people seem to do it anyways.

    Me Being Jelous

That's too bad but, ya know, you can still find the time to do this stuff on the side and teach yourself. Even if you're really busy where you are now, if you organize your schedule well and don't procrastinate too much in doing work for your classes you'll have plenty of time to work with photoshop and web design and have time left over to have a life otherwise. I would know-I've taken the hardest possible schedule at my school the last two years and I've still managed to pursue some of my hobbies and still have time for parties and stuff. You can teach yourself everything you really need to know on your own, so just keep working towards it while doing good in your regular classes and, rest assured, your future will be very bright.
  7. Hahaha that's really cool...I love zucchini and I've grown a lot before but they're never that long and skinny, probably because I grow mine on the ground. If you keep letting them grow, they get to about three feet long and about four to five inches in diameter... A six foot zucchini...that's amazing.
  8. I think choosing a woman for McCain was a very good idea from a campaign point of view, but I really don't think Palin was the right choice. She's too crazy conservative which will lose her appeal with most moderates, and she has a lot of dirt on her. However, you also have to remember that stuff like "this is a calling from god" is the kind of stuff people say at church...so that's not really that weird. And a lot of people who are social conservatives (oppose abortion, etc...) are that way because they're religious. So such a ridiculous statement, though it seems insane taken out of context, really isn't THAT out there. In any case, if McCain was smart, he would have chosen someone more moderate to reach out to shafted Hillary supporters..still, I'm sure Palin's sex will garner much of the female vote...the same way Obama's skin color garners him something like 95% of the black vote, though not to the same extent. Palin, though, does have a great track record in Alaska, despite all the dirt on her. I mean, stuff like "she's anti-abortion and anti teen sex and her daughter is pregnant" doesn't make her a bad politician, though it does make her a hypocrite.Honestly, I wouldn't support either party for this election. I'm sick of the Democratic party raising taxes, and the idea of Universal Health Care, which Obama is pushing so proudly, screws over young people, who won't need it because they don't get sick. Basically, it means that younger people (<35ish) are going to end up paying for older people. On the other hand, the Republican party touts tax cuts, but half of the time they're only for the super rich. So unless you're old or rich, you're screwed over by both parties, though probably worse by the democrats. The one thing I do like about Obama is that he is a wonderful speaker, which would at least make us look marginally better (or else just more like hypocrites) to other nations, but other than that nothing beneficial, at least to my generation, will come out of his presidency, which is why it disgusts me when I see suburban white kids blindly supporting him and touting him as our savior or something. People like to think that there are easy solutions to things, but there aren't and raising or lowering taxes or shifting the burden from one part of the population to the other improves NOTHING. I personally think that taxes across the board should be lowered and the government should have less influence on people's affairs. I wait patiently for the day when that happens.
  9. I eat a ton of protein, from meat, protein shakes, veggies (like beans...that have protein....ya know ) and wherever else. I think the amount of protein that we're told we're supposed to have is ridiculously small, but I guess you probably don't need much if you're older and not very active. I am very active however, and the amount of protein I eat STILL doesn't seem to be enough to put on sufficient muscle mass...so I guess how much protein you really need depends on how active you are, etc. Also, moutonoir is totally right (in my opinion) that Americans tend to eat way too much refined sugars and fats and stuff... protein is much healthier to eat a lot of than processed garbage...if you're really worried about being healthy and not gaining weight or getting strange diseases just make sure you're cooking your own meals and not eating extruded mystery-meat-covered-in-sugar-sauce from a can. Cooking your own meals and eating natural foods (and eating in moderation, and not binging) as well as getting regular exercise...is enough to keep you healthy.
  10. Wow that's interesting... I don't have comcast so I don't have to worry... yet but it's surprising that they would do such a thing. Oh well, with that kind of limit there's no way a normal person is going over it...but like if you seriously had to do some major uploading like for web/database development that could be kinda stupid. Or what if your neighbors are leeching off your wireless internet connection (yeah come on, don't say you haven't done it before...) and they use up all your bandwidth? "we're sorry, but your bandwidth limit for this month has been reached. limit will reset in...27 days." imagine all the horror call to tech support. Well I guess that's another reason to secure your network. ^^I guess it won't be a big deal for 99% of customers...but I wouldn't like to have that kind of restrictions anyway, even if I would never use that much bandwidth. Hopefully my provider (Qwest) doesn't do such a thing for a very...very long time.
  11. Definitely go back! It will help you out so much in the future with getting a job and the such. First step would be to go and talk to the administration at the school you would go to, like PhyberOptycs said. Even if everyone is younger than you, I don't think it's humiliating at all, because the fact that you're going back to school shows that you want to improve yourself...Plus people will respect you more for not just dropping out.If you don't want to go back to school and are motivated to learn on your own then you can just try to get your GED and then maybe take classes at college. There are a lot of books and resources you can use to study for your GED, and then you wouldn't have to go back for 3-4 years of high school. However, it's generally considered a fairly difficult test, so depending on your current knowledge you may have to do a lot of studying for it.Good luck in whatever you choose!
  12. That is why I believe in God. Sure, we can sit here and argue about indoctrination, and how what each other believes is illogical, or whatever, (IMHO though, the Big Bang Theory is just as out there, if not more so, than creation by a higher being) but ultimately arguing over really inconsequential points distracts us from the big picture. As for religion, I am shamelessly a Christian. This is something personal, and something that is felt, not reasoned. And regardless of what you believe, you can't deny that there is incredible power in faith...not just driving a person to change, but actually manifesting physical changes... In any case, I'd rather believe in something than believe in nothing.
  13. I've had the same thoughts before, wondering why we really care about the planet and the future and...while it all kinda seems pointless, I know, I think that a good reason we should care is because we as humans have the capacity to care for others...and if we don't provide for the future we're taking away the opportunity for billions of people to have the chance to live...and experience life...I mean no matter how much your life sucks there are always moments in which you're glad to be alive...and if we destroy the planet (ehe...) then we're taking that away from so many people...which isn't right.I guess it depends on how you feel about life...it is a very interesting question though.
  14. Haha my computer is a Pentium 2 450 Mhz. :)It's really old and slow but it's fine for the internet, I'm not even on the computer much anyways. When I go off to college I'll get a laptop with something faster, but there's really no use to me for upgrading, my super old computer works fine.
  15. Haha youtube is great... used to watch whose line is it anyway reruns with coworkers during lunch :)Oh and nice webcomic suggestion, it's really nice looking, which is coolPhotoshop is a great way to waste time, and you can make some pretty cool stuff, especially if you have a computer tablet... or else you can draw by hand haha...
  16. Putty is a really great client (not to mention free), but it gets really tedious when you have to move large amounts of files, and has some strange errors with not being able to change file permissions (or maybe that's just me). For windows a great client I have found (which also has some other functionality) is WinSCP. It is actually possible to integrate it with putty as well, which is really cool.
  17. Try checking out this. If that isn't your problem, try flushing the DNS, or waiting 24 hours. Otherwise...I don't really know. You didn't really give us much information on your setup. There are lot of other things that could be messing with your setup. Hope that helps.
  18. Honestly, I don't have much of a difference between surfing with Firefox and surfing with IE, and I actually think it's sometimes harder to get web stuff to look right with Firefox than IE. I also have to switch to IE sometimes from Firefox because it refuses to play content for some reason. Also, I think IE 4 and 5 were pretty good browsers, it didn't really start sucking until after that. However, the main thing that sucks about IE, and the reason I really like Firefox, is that IE is so prone to getting viruses, and spyware, and stuff, and it's really annoying...Firefox just feels so much more secure. Also, Firefox has awesome addons you can get like addblock...which makes surfing faster and nicer. I can't see why more people don't switch to better web browsers like Firefox...but at the same time for most people Internet Explorer gets the job done...so whatever, it's their choice.
  19. I dunno if you're just going crazy or not, but I guess we'll see. I've had the same sort of feelings about the most random things before, and a lot of times they've turned out to be true....I've even known stuff that there is no way I could have known beforehand...but somehow I had a feeling.what fronts are you talking about? For everyone's sake I hope you're wrong.
  20. I've used mathworld a lot and it's immensely helpful, especially for more obscure stuff you can't find anywhere else. Wikipedia also usually has a lot of articles on the same stuff and with different focuses, but nothing has the depth and breadth of mathworld. Mathematica is also a great piece of software especially for really complicated math though it takes a while to learn. Another great site with a lot of applications to solve, factor, etc equations is QuickMath it actually uses mathematica I think, but in any case it's really helpful when you want exact solutions to problems or you leave your calculator at work.
  21. I almost never dream. (probably a product of my strange mind and not getting enough sleep) At most I probably dream once or twice a month. Whenever I do dream, even if the dream sucks, I enjoy it, because it gives me an opportunity to see stuff on another level, or maybe something happens in the dream that makes me happy. While I kinda agree that it sucks when something good happens to you in a dream and it's gone when you wake up, I can live with that. Dreams are like a playground for your mind, and they can also help you decide how you feel about certain things...which would be nice for me right now so I don't have to waste time thinking during the day.
  22. Hey,So, for starters, this isn't an "I hate my parents thread." I mean, I don't like how they act a lot, but I'm more annoyed at a recurring pattern of behavior in my family...Basically today I have been working the entire morning in the yard while my parents and older brother, who is renting out a room in the house after college, went shopping for some supplies for a home improvement project. They're gone about 90 minutes and the entire time I have been edging and mowing the lawn. I go inside and get a drink, and they come home... I come out to help unload the car and my dad starts yelling at me for leaving the lawn mower out and being lazy and stuff... when in reality I was just leaving the mower to cool before I cleaned it...and he ended up just getting really annoyed and yelling over nothing...and eventually everyone else just got pulled into it and I left. But it just really annoys me how everyone in my family always gets angry over something that isn't even a problem...And they always want to take it out on me.
  23. I don't think they were trying to be rude by giving you their bait...they probably thought it was the nice thing to do...however, I really hate it when people take the small fish that they should be throwing back....there's not even anything to eat on fish those size and it's hurting next year's fishing season and others' fishing, and it's just really rude and wrong. Fishing laws, and lots of other laws too, are there for a reason and it's just hurting others when people break them...
  24. Wow that sounds pretty bad...do you live in the country? There's probably a lot more stuff to be sensitive there as far as plants are concerned.I haven't had many problems with plants except like poison oak once, but I sure know what you mean by bug bites there are tons of them in the country around here ugh...
  25. Currently I work at a fluid dynamics lab at a local college. Best job ever. We get to screw around and work on cool experiments and get paid for it.
