  1. I think the reason many people have a problem with Islam isn't because of the teachings so much as the traditions and culture. Like every time there's a terrorist attack by Muslim extremists, people blame it on the religion of Islam. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure the Q'uran doesn't preach violence, that's just people using religion as an excuse for violence. I know a lot of great people who are Muslims who treat women basically as equals, and I think in general the treatment of women by Muslim peoples is more of a cultural than religious thing, and that the Q'uran is just applying to the cultural norms of the places from where it originated.
  2. Most important thing is reviews. Because a camera can claim to do "so many megapixels" or whatever, but the image quality can still be junk. A camera with less resolution might have much higher quality at the same resolution as a camera capable of higher resolutions, but you'd never know that if you didn't ask someone or read reviews online or in consumer reports or whatever.
  3. Wow... that's amazing. It's amazing what some people can do, though it seems like projects like these all come from college students. Maybe college isn't hard enough or something so they all have way too much time and sit around dreaming up ways to build scale models of tanks.
  4. Some people get totally crazy over sports I guess, like, not the players, but the fans, like sometimes people like go after and try to assault the refs (I saw this a while ago), but anything like that going on in a little league game is just ridiculous. Give me a break.
  5. Wow... that's a really long and confusing story. Well, I don't know exactly what's going on with you and your friends, but the best thing is to not get mad over everything. It sounds like all of you are being kinda ridiculous, and like, you're mad at your friends, okay, I guess that's understandable, but it's not going to help the situation, and if you're here asking us to tell you you're right, that's being really immature. It doesn't matter who's right at this point, and I think everyone is to blame in this situation. The best thing you can do is swallow your pride, and stop "ignoring them as if they don't exist," because that's going to make things worse. If y'all are as good of friends as you seemed to think, then a few small incidents shouldn't impact your friendship in the long run, and you should all be able to forget all of this and move on.
  6. Hey,just dropped by to say I totally agree with you, garbage, I guess some parents are just too obsessed with having their kids be sports stars or whatever... which probably won't happen anyway and... yeah, it's about fun. And awesome story, jlhaslip.
  7. I think graffiti should be illegal, just because it's on someone else's property. If they have that person's permission, sure, a lot of graffiti is really amazing, but you're still desecrating someone else's property. Like, I don't think graffiti itself is bad, but regardless of the fact that there are some really amazing graffiti artists out there, there are always those who graffiti cars and people's property and stuff, and that's totally wrong. Maybe if they had like specific walls where graffiti was legal, people could go there and display their art for the community, but as it is I just don't think that graffiti is a good thing.
  8. Like everyone else is saying, do something, what happened is inexcusable regardless of whether the curator guy was young or old and sick or well. You can't just let yourself get screwed like that, regardless of the cause and the circumstances.
  9. Hey, so, I've never been interested in Anime and Manga, but I think in general you shouldn't be too pissed off at what other people like first of all, because it's their business. People can be "narutarded" if they want. Secondly, tons of japanese stuff is weird (like ninjas in orange jumpsuits) and the such. Get used to it, it's their culture. They do so much stuff that I think is downright ridiculous, but, hey, it's not my place to criticize it. I don't see why it's such a big deal. Remember, this is the country that came up with dolls for adults.
  10. I've heard about that I think, but does it really work? Also, I would never try the CMOS method because that destroys a lot of other settings on the computer, which is really bad. There are a lot of methods to change administrator privileges that are totally safe though, especially on older versions of Windows (I have yet to use Vista, so I don't know about that...). Best strategy is to not have to change it at all, but if you do I think the safe mode one is totally... um, ... safe.
  11. Really? I always thought it was contagious by contact... hmmm maybe not. In any case some people are really sensitive so it doesn't go away for a long time. I'm not very sensitive so I don't usually get poison ivy bad, but my uncle is so sensitive he can get irritated even from normal ivy.
  12. Yeah, I definitely don't think you're gay, I mean, like you might just be at an awkward period where you're not sure yet, but I'm guessing you're bi or just plain confused... I dunno, sometimes these things need time to sort themselves out.
  13. That's kinda funny, but I imagine the poor animal was in shock, and what you did, like everyone else said, was pretty awful. Well, at least you returned it and had fun for a day. :lol:Oh, and I photoshopped a math grade printout once... it was pretty funny in retrospect but, dang, it was a good job.
  14. jogging is great exercise, I personally jog three or four times a week, but you have to be careful because it's really tough on your joints. However, it's really easy to overdo jogging. I really don't want a knee replacement when I'm 50, and sports are also a great way to stay in shape, though most aren't as much exercise as jogging. I really enjoy badminton and tennis and dodgeball and stuff too, so as long as I'm doing that I don't jog as much.
  15. Wow... that's just disgusting and totally demented. I don't know why anyone would want to record or watch something like that...
  16. Yeah, your teacher sounds pretty bad. But the "we can't do the project that everyone else is doing part" really doesn't matter, teachers just like sticking to their own lesson plans and as long as I'm learning stuff and it's not a totally ridiculous plan I'm fine with that. As for the missed assignment, well, you should have asked her if you missed anything while you were gone, but if you didn't ask then she should have told you, that is her being a bad teacher. The problem is that there are a lot of bad teachers and that's not gonna change so you have to pick up their slack. From what you said she doesn't sound that terrible, but I'm guessing that she's really annoying in little things, which is what makes teachers annoying for me.
  17. I'd have to say Germany's a great place to go and study, but that's probably just because I'm biased... I'm 100% German ethnicity. As for living cost, it depends on where you're coming from.
  18. Yeah, I agree absolutely... And, the example is actually... surprisingly good. Thanks for putting it so eloquently. I think the word "adjustments" is something that some people might call "derogatory" because it carries the connotation of someone of one race being smarter than an equivalent person of another race, but, I think that's actually a good way of putting it. Anyway, at least for me I prefer to judge people on an individual basis...
  19. Race totally has something to do with how smart you are, but that doesn't mean a black person is dumber than a white person or something like that. I know plenty of very smart black people and plenty of very smart dumb people. I personally thing Dr. Watson's comment is incredibly short-sighted and makes a massive generalization. However, I do agree that race is tied to intelligence. And, really, it isn't race that has to do with it, it's genetics. If both your parents are smart then chances are you'll be too, and for whatever reasons some races are genetically different. I don't see why people have such a hard time accepting this. It's just like some races are shorter and taller than each other. People accept that, because they can't argue with it. You can complain that these tests are socially adapted to whites or whatever, but then why does Hong Kong have the highest average IQ in the world according to these tests? The fact is that some races, just like some people are smarter than others. This doesn't mean that one race is better than another or that a single person is dumb or smart because of their race. People somehow think it's incredibly politically incorrect to be "racist" like this, but the truth is it is scientifically supported. How about we just accept the way things are instead of pretending that we're all the same? Cause we aren't, and saying that race doesn't affect intelligence is as dumb as saying race doesn't affect height.
  20. Yeah, I guess that makes sense. To me it doesn't really matter what they're called. I think political science has a great deal to do with psychology and other "social sciences," especially if you're a politician or whatever and are trying to get people to do what you want them to do.
  21. Eating eggs does very little to increase cholesterol in your body. What throws your body out of whack is eating unhealthy foods like doughnuts and candy and processed foods and not eating natural foods. The whole cholesterol thing is kinda a big myth, statin drugs don't do anything to increase your overall chance of survival either, they just destroy your liver. There's nothing wrong with eating eggs, because they're healthy and natural...Back on topic... I'm not a huge egg fan, but I think that they are pretty healthy. They're also a really good source of protein.
  22. Wow... that... is... ridiculous. Prison is supposed to deter you from committing crimes. If prison is better than where you are now then what's to stop you from wanting to go and commit a crime? This is such a stupid idea, there are hundreds of other things the money could be better spent on.
  23. Yeah, exactly.Personally I almost never read in my dreams, but I think that's just because I rarely dream and when I do there are usually no words in my dreams. Sometimes, though, I can control my actions perfectly in a dream, which shows that the brain must be somewhat functional.
  24. I read an article in Fortune recently, and I think his foundation concentrates on health and education, which are both honorable causes. As for the money, I really don't care. I see no reason to obsess over what others have, it's more important to focus on yourself.
  25. Wow, that is a pretty bad day... I've had a lot of that sort of stuff lately, and it really angers me.Ah, well, enjoy your trip and ditto to the pictures.
