  1. This is complete bullocks. I've done each of my tips without any issues. They've made my computer much more secure than they've been before. Now, I don't usually like to point out Andrew K's stuff, but it's better than waiting for the actual digg story to be found in it's rediculously large database: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ The Optimization myths in specific.
  2. If there are any bands that I like it'd be Ensiferum, Gogol Bordello, and Flogging Molly.
  3. http://www.us.to/ This is my site, formerly for Runis Lingua, redisigned to focus on something different. It hosts tutorials for languages, dead languages to be exact. Dead is used toungue-and-cheek, though (There are endangered and living, but obscure languages as well). If anyone would like to visit it and give me an impression of what you think of it go ahead. I'm not done adding tutorials by far, but I'm working on it. It's tedious work trying to add 300 or so images scanned from a public domain book to an open office draw document, resizing the image to roughly fit the page, and the export it to PDF, especially when you've got several other sites to manage. I'm also looking for donations of scans of public domain books to learn old languages (it would have to be from approximately the turn of the century due to the overly extending copyright laws). Specifically, I'm looking for: + Any others that you might know which I did not list. Currently there are tutorials for: One Old English book will be coming in a few days. In addition there is a forum. It's quite empty, however. I would like your opinion on the site, and your suggestions for improvement.
  4. I have a car - an imported Fiat Croma I since it's all I need. I don't need a truck because I don't haul large things that would require a truck. If I owned one it'd be a waste of gasoline in my case.
  5. I have two AMD Athalon 64s, and those two processors are utilized to their fullest less than half the time, unfortunately, and I need to get tons more ram, because then I'm also not utilizing them to their absolute fullest.
  6. The government verified that there is a base several miles north of Las Vegas a little while ago, but it denies that it is called Area 51 and it will not tell the exact specifics of what goes on in that base as it is top secret work. "Area 51" will appear on Google Earth, but it is hypothesized that the base is in fact covered mostly by a desert camoflauge net so that a satillite photo can only track so much.
  7. Without math we'd be reduced to simple huns, if that. Without math, there is no architecture, no computers, no currency, and possibly even greater complications due to the lack of even simple arithmatic.
  8. I don't think any hosts that require you to post will allow you to get web hosting without decent quality posts - I've seen many users denied because they can't post quality posts, and it isn't just on Xisto either, but just about every other post to host hosting service that I have seen. So, if you would like a website without ads and decent features(Awardspace has stripped ads, but they don't even have SMTP access!), you might want to focus on the quality of your posts.
  9. Physics allows for the possibilities of alternate universes that are completely different from our own, but there is no proof of them, nor will we be likely to ever get that proof due to the immense size of this Universe. As for the big bang being the collision of two Universi, it is unlikely, as that would not allow this universe to expand as it is doing. A theory on how the bang happened is is that matter and antimatter particles collided and exploded extremely violently. Another theory states that black holes are the beginnings of Universi. I suppose that it is a crapshoot unless you know all the math and such needed to be a good physicist. I've lost those formula's in my own mind a little while ago.
  10. Quite humorous. I don't see the point in spending this much money on advertising for an upcoming Simpson's Movie(I assume). With how popular the Simpsons are, you could probably just slap it onto a billboard and make a few adverts on the television and the same amount of people come.
  11. Certainly freewebs is poor. It doesn't even let you use perl or custom made scripts, nor FTP access so you have to dawdle with the file manager for many times longer than you'd really want to do so. MySQL access is nonexistant and I don't even think you can use SSI. It's simply poor for someone who wants to make a serious site.
  12. I use Macromedia Fireworks because it is much easier to use than GIMP or Photoshop, and plus unlike the GIMP it differentiates between layers and frames.
  13. The best way to actually test if you want a CMS is if you use Apache on your own machine and test out each CMS individually. If not, there's always opensourcecms.com.
  14. There isn't a best CMS as each CMS is tailored to a different style os website. Every CMS supports 3d styles. You just need to write 3D styles in order to make it happen, which are easy as gradients on an image editor. If you are a good webmaster, you will write your own theme or at least your own CSS file which willl allow such things to be specified. As I said, if you're a good webmaster you would make your own theme. If you want to theme, I strongly reccomend to avoid Joomla and PostNuke. They have the worst to configure skinning systems I've ever seen.
  15. The color scheme is a little better than previously, though I still say that you shouldn't change color so drastically. You can have blue in that design, but remember the artistic priciple of balance - don't overpower an element of art over the other.
  16. I'm not a fan of being in clans or groups on any game - I work alone . Good luck trying to make your clan popular. It might take a clan war to do that, though.
  17. All I need to do now is figure out the new CSS3 selectors and then I can see if it renders them as properly as I would like them to, and give feedback to the developers if it isnt intentional to make the web page render that way. Chances are I won't be using much CSS3 anyways, though, and I don't know if I'll ever find any of the other web standards useful for my simple websites that I make.
  18. By blood I am from North Eastern Europe - Poland and Scandinavia. By birthplace I am American, north American to be more exact.
  19. Civilization is similar, but it's not completely what you are talking about because it doesn't allow for managing individual citiesl like SimCity. A game combining both aspects would be quite complex and difficult to manage. The programming to some extent would probably be easier than playing the game. The game would also be about 1/3 larger, possibly and most likely greater.
  20. I've seen spam several times in my gmail inbox, but it is still not as much spam as my Lycos account after blacklisting phrases, nor does it filter as little spam as mail.com or yahoo, so it is okay by my standards, and I hope they continue to block spam mail.
  21. Welcome to Xisto. Hopefully you decide to stay here and be part of the community in addition to fufilling your needed credits to keep your site alive. As jlhaslip had said, you might want to read the readme as well as stop signing off your posts. That way it's harder for you to end up getting a warning like many people on this board have had before.
  22. I have an account, but usually you can wait. They open registrations at a certain time every week. I belive it is friday every week or two weeks that they open registrations. If you can't wait, reply and I will give you an invitation.
  23. Your web design is green on top, and then blue on the bottom. It doesn't seem to match up...
  24. The word fun is as diverse as the human race. I actually enjoy learning languages, history, mathematics, theology, and science and don't like to talk to people face to face, and have a social life that is "normal". Judging by the spelling that she had used at her original post, she does have a bigger social life than I(I often see a correlation between shy people and good spelling and grammar, and outgoing people and poor spelling and grammar. It isn't a science but I see it's true 7 times out of 10).
  25. I have a friend. Several years ago his aunt got into a car accident in which she was thrusted out of the windshield because she didn't have a seatbelt on. She survived with a few injuries which I can no longer recall. However, if she did have her seatbelt on, she would have died due to the way that the car had crashed. I don't remember what exactly happened, but I believe it was because the car flipped and the cab completely telescoped as it hit the ground upside-down after she was thrusted out of the front of the car. Of course, this is an exception to the general rule of wearing seatbelts just like if your gas take were to happen to explode when you crashed.
