  1. As far as limewire goes, it's virtually safe as long as you're not stupid when opening files. If you're using WMP, and it asks you to download an update when you're only viewing this one file you got on limewire, for instance, you would not want to do it. As long as you're not retarded you can use it without getting any virii.
  2. It shows how what seems to be a great society with potential is simply unable to exist: there is no such thing as everyone being equal.
  3. I've read about this. What's his name... Noam Chompsky, the Linguistics professor at MIT has published some information about this. As long as, with some long-words and some others that could be mistaken for more than one thing, the first lteter and last ltteer are in the correct place, understanding the word is not hard to do.Ptetry amaznig, huh?
  4. I haven't gotten drunk yet. I may end up getting drunk in the future, but I may not. As for why it happens, I can guess mostly because of peer pressure, and once the peer pressure gets someone to start the "fun" or comfort one gets while being drunk makes them want to continue.
  5. The idea was that turning the light on, then off, if it would be able to continuously reflect. We now know that this is not possible. And if the light was inside the mirrored room it would work even less, because the light bulb would not reflect the light back (though that wouldn't be a problem if the light was on, but then the whole point would be violated. with a light on inside the room it is the same as a light being on outside the room except brighter), and hence absorb some of the light so when you did turn the light bulb off it would end up absorbing most of the light.
  6. Also, make use of symbolic (literally, not literary) passwords [^*@&%!!@#$*12342568 9ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQ...] arranged into random strings of blah. Takes forever to crack according to this article: http://www.lockdown.co.uk/?pg=combi&s=articles
  7. I don't think it is bad for religion to be inherited, as long as the child in question is completely content and has had the chance to explore other religions as well. Parents should not push children into participating in religious activities they do not find meaningful.
  8. I agree with BooZker completely about this, and most of the other things that he has said in this thread, and would like to add on to this particular post by pointing out that our population is drastically huge already, and that having more gay relationsips (and thus less child-producing people) would be more helpful to the population and next generations than not.
  9. Heh if we had solar panels and stuff on all the cars and houses there would probably be enough energy to power everything necessary. When energy isn't being used it can be stored in batteries or something, which could be used when the sun isn't prominent. There would need to be backup things as well, though, in case of lots of clouds or something.
  10. It's a cool idea, fo sho. But you'd have to connect the car to something outside the car that goes into the whole traffic computer system of sorts, which would have to be wireless because you can't have a car plugged in while it's traveling at fast speeds. Also, you'd have to design and maintain both hard- and software appliances/applications to keep the whole system moving, and it would have to have to be completely secured and stuff. When you automate things, they become vulnerable, like everything else on a network, to hackers of sorts. Not to mention that people will probably not find the idea of having no control over the car very reassuring. There will have to be an over-ride system.
  11. It isn't really anything that can't be found by connecting to any website...
  12. I think a more realisticly implimentation for energy that would power cars would be making use of solar, wind, and water energy. Systems of sorts could very easily be put into regular homes: Solar panels, small windmills on tops of houses, and even small turbines from water flowing off the top of roofs, could be stored in a battery-like format and provide the necessary energy for powering motor vehicles.
  13. I myself just started reading the book "American Psycho" by Bret Easton Ellis. It's seriously the most effed up book I have ever read. I was reading during "DEAR" at my school today ("Drop everything and read".... hella retarded name) and my mouth gaped open in awe at what I was reading. I was like oh em gee, dudes!! This stuff is messed up. This guy, the "protagonist" (Though the reader kind of hates him too), is a psychotic. He is very homophobic and hateful towards almost everyone. He rapes his girlfriend. He went up to this bum and started offering him like 5 bucks, then took out a knife and sliced his retina out of one of his eyes, pulled his pants down and like demanned him, then started stabbing him repeatedly on the streets at like 1 am. I'm just like wtf. Another book that I have read that was actually good, though very gory and messed up, was Battle Royale. All these classmates are put into a situation where they have to kill each other until only 1 person is left. Quite a good book, actually.
  14. No, those services are free. I myself have used craigslist on occasion, and have purchased computing equipment from people selling their used stuff there all the time. I'm able to find people within a few blocks of my house too, and since I'm only 14 and don't have a car that is really useful. I haven't met anyone unfriendly on craigslist that I've purchased from yet.
  15. Drink lots of water and get lots of sleep. Immune system to the rescue!! And drinking herbal tee is always good, and if you're coughing a lot some cough medicine (and/or cold medicine) won't hurt. But drink a lot!
  16. And if you have trains or people hovering, you would have to have a force which holds them in one place as well, not just one that keeps them above the ground because then they would be able to fly around with hardly any friction... which would be fun but... no.It is an interesting idea, though. I think that I have heard similar ideas proposed before... sort of like automating traffic and using magnets and computers to control where people go and keep track of where they are and stuff. You wouldn't have to drive anymore, and in theory there would be no crashes. But I'm not sure how that would be implimented, and how "bugs" in the system will be reacted to, and how people would feel without actually being in control of where they are going.
  17. Haha that's a cool idea. I was just thinking of something to add to it... have the user record and upload them singing the song as accurately as they can (not everyone can read/write music... though i can ), and have some software on the website or server determine the approximate notes, and then select some songs for the user to choose from...But my idea is hella complicated. Yours is much more do-able.
  18. Haha the only alcohol i've consumed was in Synagogue... some red whine every once and a while. I don't really like it though, and it has no effect on me (I don't drink a lot... maybe a glass or two sometimes... but I'm tall and somewhat big so I heard it has less of an effect or something...)It isn't so great. But then again, I'm only 14.
  19. Alas, this year's hurricane season is approaching. With global warming rising steadily, this season will surely be more violent than usual... Hurricane season officially starts June 1st (which happens to be my birthday...yay). That would be 9 days from now [omg...]. So far 6 major storms are expected to hit the south eastern parts of the United States, and are thought to possibly even reach New York before subsiding. Honestly, this is scary. Last year there was sooo many hurricanes, this year there probaly won't be as many but still.... the average is growing. We need to stop this, one hurricane last year (Katrina) did enough damage for one season all by itself... 6 major storms this season could result in who knows what.
  20. Heh my science teacher just sprung a project onto us today. We have to make a 10 minute presentation this Friday about marine resource overusage and *BLEEP*. Not too difficult... but... a pain in the **bottom** indeed.
  21. Most of my friends are not religious. Some of my ancestors were atheists. I disagree wholeheartedly with the idea that "we are becoming more and more obsessed with religion as we are evolving." I mean, the effing crusades, dude! There were plenty of wars fought over religion and stuff, and now we hardly even care about it. I follow a religion because it makes me feel good about life and other things. I enjoy taking part in my religion, and I do not do it to fit in with others. Though your idea of being more concerned with mankind rather than with religion is an interesting one. My rabbi, who was on the something-or-other show (I forgot the name... it's the guy with the really white hair on CNN or something that's hella old and kind of bald; he wears suspenders) after Katrina and responded to the question "Where was God when Katrina hit New Orleans?" with the question "Where was mankind when Katrina hit New Orleans?" It's an interesting idea. Humankind is making all these ecologically insane decisions, and thus the environment (or God) is responding with these natural disasters. It's the humans fault for allowing all this to happen, mostly blamed upon Global Warming (As heat rises, winds increase, storms increase), and thus we should be more dependant upon ourselves than God who gave us the change to not make it happen. But i don't think we should say that talking about religion is not an OK thing to do here. It's a somewhat scientific board right here, and since religion is almost the opposite of science, we have to talk about it. Kind of like talking about 0 when talking about infinity... yeah. And your asking us to not talk about religion seems a lot like preaching to me.
  22. Yeah it seems to me that swords would have been invented as heavier and more damaging sticks of sorts (long thick hard metal sticks, rather than wooden spears with stuff at the end of them), and then eventually evolved into something sharp that could cut things.
  23. Hmm okay it seems to be working today. But I'll clarify my previous statements anyway, in case it should happen five minutes later...By "Root" I didn't mean root of the server, I meant root for my hosting account (which would be the account 'matto', rather than ftp@sfusy.trap17.com or matto@sfusy.trap17.comBut it could have been some sort of server split or just a bug, it seems to be working now. I'll bring it up again if it is happens again.
  24. Though I agree that life could almost be considered a dimension (though i guess not really...), and it does seem amazingly hard to comprehend how life can possibly exist, I wouldn't consider it to be a conspiracy in any way at all. It is quite hard to "get," and seems impossible to exist from an outside point of view, but then again if you had an outside point of view you'd be alive, so... o_O
  25. I just went from 1-8 again in like 2 seconds. So much easier once you've done it =D I haven't worked on it since I Got stuck. Here's the screenshot, though. OH wait, let me cencor something so i don't give it away. k der we go. i'll attach it. edit: didn't attach... did it now? o_O edit2: fine.... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
