  1. As far as I can tell Google's spider will follow frameset tags (although other search engines may not). The problem is that because the frameset page contains squat for data and links it's never going to be ranked highly (if at all) on google. If she wants to stay with her current provider, maybe there's a way to not use frames, or at least use meta tags and noframe tags?
  2. Yup, it uses javascript. You have quite a few other options if you want to use css (which I prefer): you can set the visibility to hidden, the display to none, the height/width to 0px or the location to off the screen. A few of them take a bit of tweeking, but they're pretty easy to impliment. You could also probably create img tags in your html directly with height and width attributes set to 0, but some older browsers ignore resizing images, or handle it badly. I'm also not sure that all browsers (Opera?) will bother caching the image if it's 0px.
  3. How's Camelback? I go to college in Pittsburgh, so I'm not all that far from it, but I haven't tried it from a mixture of being too busy, cost, and being a stuck up Vermonter who laughs at easier mountains ;-) If you're over about five years old (and judging from your writing, you're *much* older) you should talk to your instructor about teaching you how to ski parallel. It's a little scary at first, but it gives you a huge amount more control than the wedge ("pizza pie"). Little kids are the only people who need to be taught the wedge, and that's because their legs aren't strong enough to keep their skis parallel. Two things that might help you a lot: 1) Make sure your knees stay bent, and that your shins are always pressed up against the front of your boots. Think about keeping your body perpendicular to the slope of the mountain. Leaning back is easy to do, but it causes you to loose a lot of control. 2) Rather than trying to slow down with the wedge, turn and stop by placing pressure on the outside edges of your skis. It's perfectly fine to turn back and forth a few times across the slope and then stop if you get going too fast; and it teaches much better form. Best of luck on the skiing -- it's a real lot of fun.
  4. That's exactly what I was going to recommend. Other people may be able to access it before you because their DNS update first. If you really don't want to wait the day or two to have it propegate you can do one of two things. 1) Find out the IP address of your server, and connect using that instead of the domain name. 2) Go into your operating system and set one of your default nameservers to be ns1.trap17.com or ns2.trap17.com. However, if you have patience, I'd suggest just waiting it out.
  5. If it's a server that you play at often, that you really do enjoy playing on, try contacting one of the admins through email or their forum if they have one, to discuss your ban. If you approach it in a friendly, mature, and reasonable way they may review your ban and remove it. A few years ago, when I played CS I got accused of cheating occationally. The one difference was that in those cases I was the server admin... If you're somewhere in the eastern/middle US feel free to check out those servers (which at least used to have a great community) at ClanUSEast.
  6. Issues like that white space at the top, and sticking polls/posts/popular in the wrong section usually happen because an element is too wide for where it's placed. I can't say for certain, as I only did a cursorary trace of your code, but internet explorer and firefox handle margins and padding differently. Also, IE has an annoying habit of adding a small margin to elements like divs unless you explicitly remove it.
  7. I agree that java's generally designed to encourage good coding practices, which is great compared to c++. Its pre-written code libraries are also excellent. Having a pre-written and accurate API is wonderful. However, I'm worried that with the addition of garbage collection new programmers are going to have a very poor idea of memory management. Java automates a lot of the little things that you have to do in C++ manually -- which isn't necessarily bad. However, add in an IDE like Eclipse that practically writes a third of your code for you, and someone who learns Java first is never going to find C++ accessible.Pointers are a but kludgy, but are absolutely essential to systems programming in C. I have not yet, and I hope never to see an OS written primarily in Java. ;-) The same goes for bit fields -- you could never write malloc in Java. One other neat feature is its ability to support "native" code (meaning c++) to get around its own limitations.
  8. echo "<a href="forums2.php?action=sticky">sticky the topic</a>";...echo "<a href="forums2.php?view=topics">back</a>"; Those "s need to be escaped, so that you have: echo "<a href=\"forums2.php?action=sticky\">sticky the topic</a>";...echo "<a href=\"forums2.php?view=topics\">back</a>";jlhaslip noticed the second one but missed the first. What happens is the computer sees echo "<a href="forums2.php?action=sticky" (this is a full command) >sticky the topic</a>"; (this is a second command, but there doesn't seem to be a ';' seperating them). I hope that helps. Also, with syntax errors like this, the computer will usually give you a line number that the error occured on. If you have this kind of problem again, it's really helpful to specify what the few lines around that line number are.
  9. I think he meant scroll down on the page he linked to, to access this pdf. TPM seems to be getting a lot of negative feedback in these forums. While it's true that it can be used to limit activities on your computer, it's also true that its main use (secure local encryption) is definately something that needs to exist in future generations of PCs. So please, while you're hammering on it, remember it *does* have a legitimate use too.
  10. Actually, that's almost exactly what I mean. The only difference is that you open up both of the servers in the same program -- it'll allow you to do more than one at once. Doesn't sound too bad, does it :-) Try it and tell me how you like it. Edit: I didn't see your response when I posted this (silly next page button). SmartFTP's much easier than it looks. If you have any specific questions or problems with it, I'd be happy to answer them over PM.
  11. This may seem like a radical idea, but if you're wondering what she's thinking or feeling *ask her*. Most women are flattered when you take enough interest in them to inquire how they're doing. Yes, there's a subset of women who either think that men should just innately "know" somehow, or who just like manipulating men, but most women are fairly reasonable. If you're interested in developing a real relationship, the communication's going to be the most crucial part. Also, just as a hint, women *hate* to be stereotyped, especially along gendered lines -- reconsider your point of view, or if you can't then it's probably best not to share it.
  12. I would very strongly dissuade you from taking up truefusion's suggestions. What he's suggesting is premeditated assult, and you'll wind up with him trying to put you in jail -- regardless if it's an eye-for-an-eye justice or not. What I'd suggest is to file reports with the police regularly about him violating his restraining order. If possible, get him on video-tape doing it. Either through the police, or through some public forum if they can't for privacy issues, contact everyone else who has been assulted by this man. Then bring him back to court, with as much evidence as you can of him violating the restraining order, and encourage the other people to refile their suits as well. Additionally, if you can find other victims, you can try to bring it into an open discussion at a public forum, so that other people are forewarned, and the man's actions start coming under scrutiny. I also agree with jlhaslip that a Battery Shelter might give you some more ideas, or can at least help organize against him.May you and your loved one stay safe, and best of luck.
  13. It pains me to say it, but Intel CPUs tend to be better for rendering than AMD ones. If you're interested in doing a lot of 3D modeling you need a fast CPU and a fair amount of fast ram (1gb of ddr 400 would be fine). A fast GPU (video card) is nice, but it doesn't usually affect the rendering time as much as the CPU and ram.All that being said, I do a lot of 3D work on an Athlon XP 2600+ with 512 mb of ram, so you can get by fine with a less than top of the line machine.
  14. What I think Tyssen means is that in your form you should include a hidden field that has the server address (or some other identifying characteristic) and compare it to your actual server address. <form action = "wherever.php" method = "post"> [All of your form fields] <input type="hidden" name = "sendingIP" value = "<?php echo "$_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR']" ?></form> And then in your second php page you can check if($_POST['sendingIP'] != $_SERVER['SERVER_ADDR']") echo "This form was submitted from the wrong server."else //do stuff However, something like the server IP address can also be faked. I'd suggest using sessions instead. A fair session tutorial's at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  15. You have <th align="center" width="20" nowrap="nowrap"> </th> <th align="left" width="35" nowrap="nowrap"> </th> <th align="left" width="100%"><a href="listmembers.php?o=0.1&filter=none">Name</a></th> <th align="left" width="100"><a href="listmembers.php?o=8.0&filter=none">Rank</a></th> <th align="left" width="40" nowrap="nowrap"><a href="listmembers.php?o=6.0&filter=none">Level</a></th> <th align="left" width="100" nowrap="nowrap"><a href="listmembers.php?o=7.0&filter=none">Class</a></th> <th align="left" width="80" nowrap="nowrap"><a href="listmembers.php?o=1.0&filter=none">Earned</a></th> <th align="left" width="80" nowrap="nowrap"><a href="listmembers.php?o=2.0&filter=none">Spent</a></th> <th align="left" width="90" nowrap="nowrap"><a href="listmembers.php?o=3.0&filter=none">Adjustment</a></th> <th align="left" width="80" nowrap="nowrap"><a href="listmembers.php?o=4.0&filter=none">Current</a></th> <th align="left" width="70" nowrap="nowrap"><a href="listmembers.php?o=5.0&filter=none">Last Raid</a></th>There are a few problems with this code.1) The third one down has width="100%" where I think you meant to have width="100" 2) Even assuming that you meant not to have the % sign the widths of all of your tables added up is 795 pixels, and they're all within a table that's only 608 pixels wide, which is in turn within a table cell that's only 584 pixels wide, which is within another cell, which isn't even in a table. Each element must be equal or smaller than the element it's supposed to be in. Additionally you still have the second doctype, head, and body tags buried in the middle of your code. Please let me stress again that this is extrodinarily incorrect and could lead to many problems in your site if you don't remove it. Have you considered using a WYSIWYG editor like frontpage or dreamweaver? That way you could get the layout correct, and then go back in and manually tweek your code.
  16. SkypeOut works very well for long distance and international calls, although sometimes the quality isn't great, and it has trouble dialing certain numbers.Normal Skype (between two computers) is afflicted with lag issues, connection instability, connecting issues, and other nonsense. Not to mention that its only skin is large, clunky, and horediously ugly. I tend to find Google Talk to be a much better option.
  17. I would also go with the first one. A few suggestions on the guns: 1) There's a bit of stretching on the left butt. Either play with your coordinants or uv map it.2) Add a light bump map or displacement map to it.3) Add a few more verticies to the butts so they're not quite as pointy.4) Play with the specularity and hardness on the metal.Overall, it's a fine render. Good job.
  18. It's quite late here (I just got back from working on a project all night), so I might not be thinking strait, but I'm fairly sure that you need to escape quotes if you use them more than once. Also, I don't see why you can't use more concatenations instead of echo commands to make it cleaner.Try: echo "\t" ;echo "<li><a href=\"" . $full_dir . $file . "\" alt=\"full-size\">";echo "<img src=\"" . $dir . $file . " alt=\"" . $dir . $file . "\" / >";echo "<img src=\"" . $mid_dir . $file . " alt=\"mid-size\" class=\"preview\" />";echo "</a></li>";echo "\n\r\t"; I have no idea whether it'll work as it's completely off the top of my head, but it seems reasonable, and it's quite a bit cleaner code.
  19. Congradulations. You just listed the "standard" (and I only say the word with slight sarcasm) hints that girls tend to give guys they like. Try to get over your fears and just ask her. Chances are, she'll say yes. Otherwise, since she's nice, she'll tell you nicely that she's not interested, and your friendship can probably continue on its merry way. Seriously; work up the courage. I was extrodinarily obtuse in the same circumstance -- the woman I love had to do everything short of asking me out to give me enough courage to ask her. In the end though, it's well worth it.
  20. Basically, your www directory works like a shortcut to a program or a folder does in windows. So, public_html and www both point to exactly the same place. I'm guessing that www's just a symlink right? It's actually really easy to move files from one server to another. All you have to do is open up both servers and drag the files from one to the other, much like you would move a file from your computer to a server. Please don't give up on it because you think it's too comlicated. SmartFTP's free if you do want to try it. Also, it has a tutorial (which'd probably take you forever to download) on moving files between servers here. Just click on the link called "FXP - Direct".
  21. Latin: Amo teSign language: Face the palm of your hand towards the other person with your thumb out and your fingers together and extended. Lower your middle and your ring fingers. This represents the combination of the letters I-L-Y. Alternatively, point to yourself, then cross your arms, with your palms on your upper arms or shoulders and squeeze, then point to the other person.I'd use a different Japanese phrase than the one already suggested. 愛だ "ai-da" meaning "there is love", but taken in context it means I love you. Alternatively, 大好きだ "die ski-da" meaning "like a real lot", but is often used to mean love.
  22. Yup. Some programs like SmartFTP allow a direct server to server transfer via ftp. You provide login information for both of the servers and it does the rest. Also, if you're ok with doing it by hand you should be able to log into a shell via ssh on one of the servers and scp or sftp the file over to the other server (assuming that they're both linux boxes).
  23. You should have two alleles (think A, B, O), one from your mother, and the other from your father. A and B are co-dominant, and O is recessive, which means that if you got an A from your mother and an O from your father, you'd be type A, because A is dominant over O. The same goes for recieving B from your mother. The only way to be type O is to recive it from both parents. So that means that theoretically you can't be type O, if your mother's AB, because you would've recieved either an A or a B from her. I think that your guess that one of the blood tests was inaccurate probably makes sense, although I think it is possible (although very unlikely) to recieve both alleles from a single parent. I hope that helps.By the way, if you're type O+ that means that many people can use your blood, which means that you'll probably be hounded by the Red Cross for the rest of your life ;-)
  24. Using a Secure File Transfer Client Almost everyone who creates a web site is faced with the problem of getting their files from their local computer to their web server. There are a few different protocols (methods) through which to accomplish this, and some have definite advantages over others. Here are the major ones, listed loosely in order of increasing security. Note: All of the programs recommended in this tutorial are for Windows only. Command line alternatives are accessible via the terminal for both Linux and OS X. FTP First a note on using the built in FTP clients found in some web browsers (Internet Explorer, Firefox, etc). Never transfer files through a web browser if at all possible; most will not check the integrity of your files after they upload, will drop packets, and can generally corrupt your files on their way to the server. FTP is the usual, ubiquitous means of transferring a file from a local computer to a server. It supports commands to view and navigate directories, change file permissions, and add, remove, and move files. However, everything communicated over ftp is completely unencrypted. This has two important consequences. 1) Because passwords are transmitted in clear-text it is possible for someone to intercept your login information, and access your account. 2) Any data you transmit to the server is accessible to people looking for it. That means that if you're transmitting confidential records, someone can intercept and record them. FTPS FTPS is the normal FTP protocol with the addition of SSL (Secure Socket Layers) and/or TLS (Transport Layer Security), the successor to SSL. FTPS does two important things. 1) It verifies that the server you're connecting to is indeed the one you think it is, as opposed to a spoofed address. 2) It encrypts your login information, so that it's impossible (well, highly improbable) that someone can steal it. However, in FTPS, normal data transfer is often left unencrypted. If you insist on using a FTP or FTPS program I recommend SmartFTP which has both an excellent interface and good implementation. SCP SCP uses SSH1 for complete encryption covering both your authentication information and your file transfers. However, the SCP protocol was written to open a connection to the server, transfer a single file and then close the connection. Therefore, it doesn't allow you to browse directories, change file permissions, etc. Some SCP clients get around this by allowing you to access shell commands. A fair bare bones SCP client is PSCP put out by the makers of PuTTY. SFTP SFTP mainly uses SSH2 and encrypts both your login information and your file transfers. Additionally, it has built in mechanisms for viewing directories, changing file permissions, etc. Basically, SFTP is a fully secure equivalent to FTP, and can be used in exactly the same way, although it's based on a completely different protocol. A good program for both SCP and SFTP is WinSCP which has a slightly clunky interface but excellent functionality.
  25. Irfanview's not particularly meant to be used as a full image editor. If you have the money I suggest Adobe Photoshop. If Photoshop's too expensive, the GIMP is an excellent freeware alternative, and has almost all of the same features.
