gameratheart replied to gpinvest's topic in Business Forum
It would've been nice if you'd have explained what prinvest is or why we should pay you. This entire topic, as it is right now, is spam, and will be removed by a moderator. -
Which Console Will Win The Console Wars?
gameratheart replied to E-Sector's topic in Computer Gaming
Do you guys know how many people have asked this question on ANY forum? Let's just say, multiply pi by 10,000 and you don't even get close. And personally, I think they all suck...PS3: TOO EXPENSIVE! I mean, what are Sony thinking, putting it's estimated price at $400???XBox 360: Sucks big time. Nothing so far actually works on it - put any game in and 99% of the time you'll find that it will crash after five minutes. No joke. Google Search for "XBox 360 crashes" and see for yourself.Nintendo Revolution: I though they were gonna call this the Nintendo Wii? Well, good thing they did change the name... but I hope they've also got sense to change the controller design, as for some reason, playing a console with a TV remote doesn't sound very sensible to me.But I'd say it's the Revolution that'd come out the best. Just because. -
What Country To Do You Live In, And Rate It.
gameratheart replied to Fu Still Better's topic in General Discussion
I live in good ol' England and I would say that this country definately deserves a 9/10. England is a country where things are fair, life is valued, nature is not disrespected, and we don't take bribes to ignore problems. Of course, we do still have the occasional problems, such as thieves, bad weather, and the recent terrorist attacks, but these are not as regular as in other countries, and we have much better control over them (except the weather - noone can control that!). The law is decent over here, and though many people may feel that things should be better than they are, there is no doubt that we are in a country that works, and these minor problems can be, and are, easily dealt with. -
You CAN get rich by utilizing the internet, but you have to work for it. Get-rich-quick schemes are out of the question on the web - they simply don't work.Get a good site, offer a good service, set a good price, and keep the quality to it's best at all times. Then the money will come pouring in. If you don't believe me, here's a list of people you can ask:Bill GatesAndrew GowerStelios HajiAdam BohnThere Are Many More, but the general point is, you CAN get rich off the internet... if you're willing to work for it.

If your site is that important to you, then you should backup all of the files on the server and let your site get deleted, then reapply. The Admins can't bend the rules to let one particular person off...

Dell Laptop Explodes - Leads To Major Recall
gameratheart replied to Plenoptic's topic in General Discussion
I don't believe it either. Many "news" websites have been making up fake stories, or publishing ones that other people made up. So you need to be able to trust the source. And I'm afraid to say the Inquirer is not a trusted news source. And I don't know if there was a recall of batteries or whatever, though I think there was. Without a known reason for the recall, however, that is a moot point. After all, it could be that the recall was for a completely different reason, and that people are just trying to prove something that isn't even remotely true. If it really did happen, however, then I am just thankful that there were no injuries, and hope it doesn't happen again. But then, unless someone tampers with them, it is a one-in-a-million chance. -
No way! I could use $5 a month for MUCH better stuff. After all, I have a life, and I'd rather not waste money that could be used by purchasing even the basic necessities that my life needs ... Besides, Google is meant to be a host for "free services", so how can they start charging for them? It would just contradict their entire marketing strategy!!! Then again, it wouldn't be the first time... many other companies have contradicted their marketing strategy. I'd prefer not to mention names, but you would know quite a few of them.

jlhaslip, it is possible to use patches to remove all the security patches, you know. MY question was simply, is it legal?Thank you Michaelper for contacting IPB on this matter on my behalf. Now I know for sure. A lot of other websites have asked this question, so I can now give them indistinguishable proof. But yeah, I am not going to forget about the Security Vulnerabilities in such an old version. I might not use IPB after all. Thanks guys. Close this topic if you please.

I've actually thought about this quite a lot... to be honest, sometimes I start to think that this whole world is a massive RPG. But you know why I don't believe this is true? No Respawning No known glitches The world never "lags" The graphics technology required to power such a realistic simulation would have to be more powerful then almost anything in the universe. Especially when you consider it is not just "our world" that exists. However, there is some truth as to this matter of us being controlled like a Sims game: A group of Scientists have recently tried to prove the belief that we all have free will. However, they are so far unable to prove it, due to the discovery that the mind makes decisions seconds before we are conscious of our decisions.

Mircrosoft "ipod Killer", Mp3 Player Wars picture and info
gameratheart replied to hedzup's topic in Science and Technology
Ooooh, iPod Killer... Microsoft are asking for it, directly competing against Apple... and they can be sued if they call it iPod killer, 'cos Apple copyrighted the name iPod!I don't think it will be as good as the iPod... but then again, I've never used an iPod, so I don't know what to expect, But if microsoft can put WiFi on it, then it's gonna be better by far, for sure. Then again, MicroSoft has promised so much stuff and not really delivered (perhaps that is the reason my friend calls Microsoft, MicroSuck)...We'll just have to wait and see. -
Yeah, I heard of OpenOffice. It's cool. Being made of Java technology, it is amazingly stable, albeit rather slow. But it has all of the features supported by Microsoft Office, and a few of it's own. And the best thing is, it's FREE! So you got nothing to lose. Plus, it's just a two-step registration process, and you have supporton hand 24/7.Of course, being free software that is continually tested by the general public, it can have problems, like the one you mentioned here with the dictionary wizard faulting. In truth, OpenOffice will never be as good as Microsoft Office, but there are many points where it exceeds Microsoft entirely. OpenOffice has potential.Your tutorial is very helpful. Many of my friends are having problems with their dictionaries in OpenOffice too, so it's good to be able to know how to help them . Keep up the good work!

What do you mean by this? Also, I notice this is in the security issues forum... are you suggesting the use of these for illegal activity?
-
Here's a Geektalk - English translation of what farsiscript said:"If you can visit your site using a proxy (a way into the internet that always changes, such as dial-up, phpproxy, or cgiproxy) then it is fine.Sometimes the server that hosts your site goes down. This shouldn't happen if you are hosted by Xisto, as we are up 99.9% of the time. To check how often your site has been up, use the link he said.Sometimes the guys you bought your internet from make it so that some sites can't be accessed, but if this is the case with your site, using the stuff I mentioned will let you get past that.If your site is blocked, change the adress to it or use it's IP address, as only the URL is blocked."If my translation doeasn't make sense, then you shouldn't be using a computer.
-
You can install any forum software on Xisto, as long as it is legal. We have a special script in the site manager called Fantastico where you can install phpBB forums instantly, so you may like to choose phpBB.Personally, I'd like to say IPB is better, however I must warn you that it is now illegal to have IPB 2.0 or higher forums without paying for them. And versions before 2.0 are not allowed here due to most of those versions having been hacked into.

It's a cool trick, but fiddling with the registry is dangerous, so I'd rather avoid it. Even though I know how to use it, even I can go wrong.Does this trick work with any Windows Version prior to XP, perchance?
-
I believe there is a graphics area at http://www.invisionize.com/ that you can get a few user rank images for your forums. They have all kinds of stuff for IPB Forums... oh, but then, you didn't say you were using an IPB forum, did you? Hope you are

Don't have one.

What Feature Are You Looking For In Forum/message Board Software?
gameratheart replied to cgrim29588's topic in Software
Yeah, php and MySQL are definately musts! In fact, they are necessity - you can't make a good forum without php, and MySQL just makes things soooo much easier. Or, if you prefer to use images, compress them so they use less memory. In fact, the whole forum should be subject to an active compression tool because of bandwith limits. A good idea is to implement GZIP into the forums, like in IPB and phpBB. (Edited: Fixed Quote Tags, and corrected my bad grammar ) -
Dooga, I agree, that was a long domain name. I was just tring to string two words together, seeing as how I didn't like my original idea of "loosegoose.com".The truth is I can't really come up with any good idea right now. But I would appreciate it that any ideas I do come up with, are not stolen from me.
