Ebay Sucks! ebay is for stupid people
hatim replied to Shooting Star Haven's topic in General Discussion
the thing is what ever kind of bidding system you have ..you ll always have the problem of bad seller and damaged goods fraud etc. You just cant make it go away. May be in a system where peoples ids are tied into the system...lets say a person's international unique id tied to a online business consortium databse..which lets any seller buyer verify things about the others. for example ..if i were to buy books from two similar buyers ..every thing similar down to geographic location ...condition ..shipping warrenty ..may be i can look up on how much profits or losses were posted by those sellers..and help the less financially person out..remember we are dealing people here..i know this is just impossible...but it never hurts to dream -
Google has been turning out alot of services lately ...but it seems they are doing it under some pressure ..ie without testing and without research...like in the case of google base ...it became a porn hub in a matter of days. i think they should have seen it through...now hey ahve worked it out ..but prevention would have been better.

Well php has evolved very quickly in last few years. If you search for open source solutions alot of them have been done in PHP.but there are other options. Things like Ruby on Rails , Python and Plain old CGI (using C++)ASP.net and JSP are also good options ...but only if you have a big architecture and can afford the Hardware to support it(they make devlopment easy ..if not offer the best possible solution.)I think (and its strictly an opnion) PERL will die out sooner than PHP ...just cause of its hype...when does that happen ..i think within 5 years.wat will happen to LAMP ...guess they would have to have a P retronym language...

ok having your own 3d engine as an option is acceptable..u caouls hev said 3rd party library...but none of the above or text based shound have been an option...if some one says text based , or none ...guess what he is saying...he doent need 3d ..or to vote...sorry had to say this...another thing. DirectX is also an Industry Standard..its properiety but still industry standard (the fact that there are like zillion jobs for DirectX programmers)

Just wana make sure ..if u knew..TELNET access is bad..you should use ssh ..from where ever u want a shell service. same goes for ftp ..sftp should be the norm. Source Forge.net forces this on heir users .(ie by not providing with unsecured services...) i think asta should do the same

Is It Worth It To Get Gmail ? Is Gmail Good?
hatim replied to wazzupster0204's topic in Search Engines
Well i have very less bandwidth at my college...it goes in bytes some times (third world country)..so gmail page doestn open up at all...not to mention other services related to google like orkut..on the other hand yahoo mail signs in real easy..yahoo beats in every service whether its IM or Mail ..except for search when i am at low bandwidth ..when at home gmail is AOK -
Well a good design should seprate the credit system with lets say ..credit phrases ...so one could just may be define rules on which credit is given as a script in the credit system. inhouse scripts are doing a good job ..but this just shows a case where a good product (iw the inhouse scripts) are useless for outside world due to bad(?) or no design at allall you web dev ppl...even if u make a very small app..make sure its designed first to carter for growth

Well i would recomend that instead of making your own distribution , you should focus on maintainng an already established distribution. Alot of distributions require maintainers as people leave as they dont have time to contribute . Like Danial Robbins , founder of Gentoo....he had a family to take care of..but he did take a job at Microsoft :SGood Distros to contribute are Ubuntu , Fedora and Gentoo as they have a very strong community based program.

Well in Pakistan programmers arent that bad ...but i guess its just outsourcing ...western people coming in getting their projects done preety cheap. In the end big money is in busniess and consulatancy for technically sound people....so start learning stuff like project management ..and get good atr speaking and marketing...if u deal with computers , hardware its less money ..if u deal with people and money directly ..it more money

You would like to mention that its primarily for NorthAmerican users. They may have shipping optsion ..but after good shipping the price is hiugher for me than the local market. I did get my athlon 2800 from newegg when i was in US a year agoother sites for US comparisons are pricewatch.com pricegrabber.comone good online store like newegg.com that i know of is zipzoomfly.com

If you want to research on latest hardware ..do go to extremetech.com. .. but b4 you go ..seriously if you are not a gamer and just want an OK system to work on ..get a branded system. Its not as good as custom built ..but atleast its not your headache when it goes out. My PC died on me twice in last two year. Thats another thing that my Motherboard company (ie Leadtek ) sucks big time.

One more vote against Norton , I have heard good things about Nod32 recently . Since I dont use Windows alot these days I have not tried it my self. There is another Antivirus Client called Panda Antivirus (some thing like that). It is also recomended by Microsoft (ie in their SP2 Antivirus-Not-Present warning).

Where To Get Windows Xp Hackers Edition ?
hatim replied to TrianGulum's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I dont think so there would be a stripped down version of Windows by some Microsoft people..by stripping down you would mean to change the code in the kernel, which is not possible unless its done by MS. No we are not brainwashed.. who has brainwashed you. Its all about market dominence. You would only use a thing which you would see prominently in Market place. I am a Linux User and have been for almost 5 years. And I still think Windows beats it big time in ease of use (for a non expert person)Windows is easy to use ..and thats why it sells..Imagine using some really out of the world OS like Amiga or BeOS ..which are not easy at all (btw are good OSes by design)I would suggest that you stay away from any Pirated activities. It is not good for the software industry. If you dont like the pricing of Windows or Properiety softwares..then use some Free (as in Beer) OS. Distribution/flavor choice in Linux may matter alot. Generally I recomend Ubuntu and SuSe to non expert users and Debian , Slackware to Expert but cautious users. And Gentoo to Non Cautious and Expert Users.Jguy101 : Come on , Comodore64, you prbably just hated mandrake just by listening its name ..cause i am sure if you had used it you would certainly not compared it with comodore64. -
Few trick which may help you:when typing a command whose fullcommand name lets say is this_command press TAB key after lets say this_ ..it will provide you with some options to complete the name or complete the name of the command. This also goes for any file name.~/ is you home director ..ie when ever you do cd ~/ you will go to your home directory. Similary if you do ~user/ you will go to that users directory ..if you have permission. If you are outside of Grpahics mode ..you can use Alt F1 , aLT F2 etc to switch to diffet terminals ..if you have graphics on you can use Ctrl Alt F1 etc to go to text mode..and normally Alt Ctrl F7 to back to graphics (depends ..how many terminals you are running..i think this is some thing default ..but this could be differnt ..ie F5 or F6 perhaps)one of the most useful thin in linux is grep. You can capture ..or uncapture a line with it (lay man way of saying it)A way to do is by pipeslest say you know that cat blah will spill out the contents of file blah on screen. You can use cat blah | grep name to capture all lines with text name in themsimilarly cat blah | grep -v name will capture all lines ..except for lines having text name in themjust few tricks ..which will help you get startedRead the tutorials mentioned..preferably from some University Unix Course Website ..it will give you a comprehensive background:)

I just wana add that even though FireFox is secure , has not spyware and patches are relaeased promptly...security is one thing which cannot be left alone to the browser...what ever OS is used. So make sure that you browse the web carefullyOne added advantage of Firefox is that its avialable for almost all OSes. I am planning a USB stick with firefox and my bookmarks , apps in it so where ever i go I get my same browsing environment.
