  1. I always thought people write in diaries ..with some hope that some one will read it and know how the person writing was feeling. In case of blogs since very few may actually know the subject in person..so people can now do it every day. btw are there any blogs inside of WOW or EverQuest kind of games. I mean where you actually have to navigate spaces to write things? it would be a fun idea if its not already done.
  2. I wonder why its a txt and not an XML. XML would be a far better choice.
  3. Well the thing is ...its based on Debian ..but its very differnt. It has a really good bundle ..with easy setup of things like USB devices and installatin..the shipped version comes with a live cd. I think you should give it a try. And wats so annoying about not logging as root. Its the best security policy. You should do every thinng as sudo. Even in my gentoo KDE i am not allowed to login as root. I presume this will be tru for any major distor using latest desktops like KDE 3.4+ or Gnome (2.6?)
  4. I had them shipepd for last april release and just ordered few more. What i fail to uinderstand why would they do such a thing ..other than Ubuntu (for humanity)its not like that thye would be breaking the monoply of Red Hat or Mandrake on Desktop..but do you think they can make money out of it . I mean think of it..people would love Ubuntu cause tehy send free CDs. The day they stop offering free CDs they are as good as Fedora and OpenSuSe.There were rumors that Google might actually use Ubuntu as its Desktop OS . They are already using it internally.
  5. Well if you reall want to learn HTML (not just dream weaver MX) you can try W3Schools. IMO if you want to make professional web pages you need to get your basics right..if you just want to play around and make web[ages (non serious) the whole point o fdream weaver (i think) is that you need no tutorials ..just poiny and click. Its (for the lack of a better word ) quite an idiot proof software
  6. Being a muslim my self i think the muslim community and any one who thinks that their relegion should be respected by others ..should do a PEACEFUL protest to this incident. I dont agree with people waving guns like MORONS and YANKING about how they would defend their relegion. neither would i agree with people who think the way to takkle this is to publish jokes about other side. This is not a firefight dam it.Christinas and jews are considered people of the book in Islam as they also follow book of Allah (God) but their version is old for modern time as the latest version is Quran. And their prophets like Jesus (Isa) Moses (Musa) are prophets of Islam too , but Islam ignores the fact that Chritsinas make statues of Jesus and crack jokes about him. partly because its their relegion and they would be held accountable. But for chritsinas to make fun of Islam wont be tolerated by most Muslims ..becuase tey think Islam is already under physcial attack. I dont agree with people publishing such cartoons but in time of prophet there were paople who made fun of him and there was one time where the prophet had the power to destroy them ..but he never did as he thought these people are young and cluless. If the prophet wont hurt a person who was making fun of him ...why should we..I am not saying allow people to desicrate any relegion..but if some one is doing so..stop them by peaceful means..waving guns like Labanese Malitia wont HELP
  7. Nice stuff , why dont you use flickr for public photos...man people would be able to see it that way
  8. well i gues you would need special driver utilities for that to make full screen of opengl or directx spread on both ends have you tried omega drivers from ATI
  9. Well if you are looking because of licacning issues and if you dont have limitations you can always do a console remote login on one system and get you work done from the PC MS Office is installed. If the probelm is licencing ..ie you dont have a licence for the second machine...or are willing for a cheaper solution (assuming you are a good citizen and dont use pirated stuff ..even if it measn paying the evil corp some dollars ) why not try open office ....i use it all the time and its kick *bottom*
  10. Well , if you see you site statistics in Xisto you can see that bots from differnt search engines access your site. Atleast they access mine. So the only thing which you can do is structure your page in a way that natural queries are embedded in them , like I was thinking to planting Hatim email address , or geoaxis email address in the page ..as some one who might be looking for my email address would probably start by typing this thing. There is a service from google called site maps ..i think it helps in indexing. I am looking for ways to do some thing like that before I start an online business of some sort.
  11. I thought Windows Defneder was just for VISTA ..as it is based on WinFX (or has some thing to do with it). Have they renamed Windows Maleciuous Tool Remover to Windows Defender?
  12. Well openoffice is a differntstory. It ahs a weight of an IT giant behind it..Adobe is a giant too ..but not as big as SUN. If you make a sucky product ..you will be plauged with support requests ..but if your application follows som standard..ie LSB , you will probably not end up with a ugly library hog software.I think flash on open source platform would be an excellent oppertunity for macromedia..there is still time before MS and others jump into competetion.
  13. Well , i was thinking on this topic today. Macromedia surely would never want any thing to compete against its own product. Or should I say Adobe instead of Macromedia..But Imagine if some company had licenced HTML pages and no one else could make HTML pages by law ..or by some other restriction...is it possible to convince Adobe to open up flash or give some sort of support.. if they can make more (non evil) money off it ..may be shipping off a free (not opensource..but retail wise) version of Flash MX studio for Linux / FreeBSD / *NIX (yes i know they have one for apple ..but i am talking about the rest of us). it could be a stripped down version. And for a retail version they can have a souped up thing with all scripting goodies and easy integration with websites.Besides ..MS is launching its own flash like thing. So its not too late to launch a pre-emptive strike.
  14. Well people had predicted big days for Novel Netware in early 90s ..hope MS doesnt comletely disappear...i mean they ahve a few decent products..but i dont think MS will be doing any thing after VISTA...or should i say would there be a MS which would produce OS any more
  15. This is not a new service. I have been using it for some time..i guess since last summer. I cannot make yahoo MAIL alerts be forwarded to my mobile via SMS for some reason..
  16. i think the smallest..linux can go is under a megabyte. I have seen linux on floppies..but ofcourse its means they ahve very little functionality.
  17. Finally some thing i can talk on for more than few linesI ahve been looking for the perfect Java IDE as unlike Visual Studio there are many optins..First you have Borland's Jbuilder. Its quite decent and if you are used to Borland Technologies . then you might give it a try. But its not free and its not open source. But its used alot in Enterprise. Then there is Eclipse SDK from IBM, its more of an all purpose tool. Its cross pltform and its based on IBMs SWT instead of usiong swing as its GUI kit. Its totally open source , but you may need to fine tune it for your needs. Then my personal faverioute Netbeans. Its open source and its full of features. Netbeans used to be Sun's product but now they have seprate foundation (like mozilla is to Netscape..i think)Another good commercial grade IDE Is Sun Java Studio Enterprise. Its based on Netbeans and its souped up with properiety stuff. It used to be 2000$ retail value but after MS released Visual Studio 2005 ...they have released a free version too. It has more goodies than plain Netbeans..but netbeans should be ok for any small university projectfinally there is my advisor(who happens to be a java champ)'s fav IDE. Emacs with jds support. But i ahve been luring him towards netbeans for some time now.you may wana check out netbeans first
  18. Well they have an eval version. which you can try for 30 days. And after that you can clean registry and reinstall it. I have not read any User Agreements ..but I think this will not be forbidden by law (it ay be frowned upon)Flash is good ...but it still pisses me off that thye dont have a good solution to run on linux.
  19. In my opnion ..you should stay away from Xandros , and Linspire. SuSe is good too..but its a commercial distribution.Give Ubuntu a try...they even ship free cds. Also take the linux distribution chooser test...it was mentioned in the board a few days ago.
  20. Well the answer is simple ...Online Gaming Companies dont bother to make much titles for MAC. MACs are a minority and it would take alot of effort to posrt games to Mac and make money off of it. Companies prefer to add extra things in their games for PC rtaher than do porting. That said there are some big name titles avialble for online gaming but they are very limited. And that too because the companies making those games can afford to reach minority of Mac ..for the sake of it..not cause they make profit..atleast thats my assesment. If you are a gamer the sad truth is that you have to be PC-Compatible and you have to be in in Window$
  21. Well first off I think the next gen of portable music players would be inbuilt with Mobile Phones , i mean they are now ..but in minority..we would be sseing mobile devices doing all sorts of thingsone thing which I predict ..but dont necessirly like is tighter control of giants like RIAA ..which would make the portable audio people share all sorts of data ..that how music is used. The portable devices would be Wifi and BlueTooth enabled and who know ..how the big guys keep an eye on the public ..
  22. Surprise SurpriseI got Ubuntu on top of my list. Gentoo some how failed the test. I have learnt alot from Gentoo , but I am so dam confortable with Ubuntu Live CD. Which reminds me I have to order more of them :DI have yet to try Kubuntu which came second on my list.
  23. What i dont understand is why MS didnt allow Recylce Bin to be renamed in normal fashion..and why you cannot hide Recylce Bin Icon like all others..is it to make the system idiot proof?
  24. First of all I would like to discourage you to use any cracked or pirated softwares. Either you buy it or better ..use open source alternatives.I know its very appealing to give things a try b4 u buy them..thats why all good procuts have evaluatin periods. As for serious game programming ..just make up your mind what you really wnat to do. There are so many things , like enginer devlopment , modeling , AI.As for engines you may want to be really good in C programmin(not C++ there are subtle differences ..even though C++ is superset of C , its mostly way of thinking ..way of programming). Infact with a good grip on C you can do almost any thing with Computers. But C will help you in Graphics (OpenGL, DirectX) and General Game Engines. As for the power you want (which i guess is power of rapid devlopment..ie to make your ideas realize easily and without much effort) you would probably be better off learning to use pre-made Libraries and Engines. Big Companies like Epic Software sell their engines for very high price (retail value of UT2004 gaming engine was 350k $ last time i checked) But you can find low end and free/open source engines to play with. Since most engines depend on C/C++ you will need a grip of the language. Finally , Game Programming has emerged as a subject in some colleges/universities (i heard on such program in Canada). You may want to check out their course content to get a feel how things go in the subject
  25. IMO you should be weary of the motherboard u buy....a bad quality motherboard can makeur life hell..i am talking from personal experience.
