I used to use Dot.tk but then I found CJB.net. Basically the same service, except better. If you go with their free URL redirection, you're stuck with ads unless you pay. But I use CJB.net for free domains since with all of my sites, I don't want to keep paying $8 bucks a year. Plus, they can't put ads on when you have it setup with a host (I use a CJB.net domain on Xisto). But the down side is that they only have room for 1 DNS server. There are also no hit requirements. You just have to login once every 90 days to keep your account active. Other than that, if you want an actual free domain, it isn't bad! Who needs .com anyways?! lol, but it is good just for the domain.[N]F

Fbi And Paypal Watchout
nightfox1405241487 replied to InitialDriveGTR's topic in Security issues & Exploits
One thing I also noticed was that when I hovered over a link in a fake email, the address was a paypal.com, but when I looked at the full source, JavaScript was used to mask it! It was very creepy at how sick some people are in this world...[N]F -
As with most public school systems, Internet is provided by a state funded organization. They also usually provide free unmetered bandwidth and disk space for website hosting. Not a bad deal! Ok, here's where the problem starts. Our webmaster LOVES to take photos... we hit the 50,000 photo since Aug. 2005 just a few weeks ago We have 50,000+ photos on the website. Each photo is ~400K in size (sized down from about 4 megabytes a piece!) and that adds up! Plus we have TONS of pages... I think maybe ~10,000 pages (give or take). Today, I heard that our school has racked up a bill for $2500 and that our service provider is charging web space at $100 per GIGABYTE. This has District Technology ticked off, the Board of Ed is probably ticked, and our webmaster is also ticked. NO webhost (except ours) would charge $100 PER GIG! On a web host I pay for, I pay less than $10 a month for 1.5 gigs of space! Now to make this worse, imagine this. Xisto turns to paid hosting and charges members $100 per gig (just an example) and also makes it where you can't just pack up and leave Xisto. This is the situation we're in. We just can't launch a DNS, mail, and web server and be happy. We're stuck! I hope you don't mind me picking on Xisto. It is a wonderful free service (the best, really!) and I just needed a web host to use as an example [N]F

Need Help With Designing My LAN
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Computer Networks
Thanks for the suggestions, vujsa! I'll be working something out![N]F -
Since I got a new router and have some equipment that doesn't work, I've been proposed ideas for my LAN. I have a wireless LinkSys router (4 port switch on back). Because wireless is terrible on my side of the house (I sometimes drop connections), there is currently a 50 foot cable running from the router, through the house, to my room where it goes into a network hub, then it branches to one computer and to my computer.I can't have the long cable running through the house. My dad is getting annoyed with it and so am I because I can't close my bedroom door real easily without carefully moving the cable.Solution 1: Wireless Network Bridge.Bridge placed in my room and connects to the network wirelessly.Solution 2: Wire the House.Put a wired connection all over the house. Which will really help me. I can't easily print large print jobs wirelessly. Pages 1-2 may come out at the network printer or they may not. The printer may have a bad print job due to data packets being lost.Wired doesn't bug my dad. He doesn't mind running cables through the walls and allover. Plus there is a wireless connection for those places without cables or I may place wireless access points.Any ideas?[N]F

New Linksys Router Horrible Problems
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Computer Networks
Ok, LinkSys tech support had me do some things. For now, it seems to be working. If I get word from my parents that they didn't lose connection during the day (wireless or wired) until 24 hours from which I "fixed" the problem, I shouldn't need assistance. I've been on for about 2 hours now with no problems yet. [N]F -
I got a new LinkSys router to replace my D-Link router which flipped out after a firmware upgrade. I'm only having a few problems:1) My Netgear switch won't connect (I can't get into the configuration screens to re-configure it) but I'm going to get a for sure working LinkSys Wireless bridge2) A weird problem in which I'll describe below:I can only access the Internet wirelessly on my laptop. If I plug in an ethernet cable, NO INTERNET... Wireless where I am in my house is terrible.. Right now, signal status is "Low" but if I sit on the floor by my door, it goes to "good".I have a network connection when I plug in through ethernet but I can only access basically the LAN (router configuration pages).Anyone know of a fix? ---------I just moved out into the living room and switched from my 50ft cable to a 5 ft into the router and it freaking works!!!I am sick of this!! I like the router and all but I don't want to keep doing this!!! I hate D-Link but I'm tempted to return the router for another... at least D-Link works as long as you don't touch it!!!Gah!!!!

After having a fit with Windows being stupid (when browsing the web, scrolling became choppy... formatted many times, even swiched hard disk, no fix) and SuSE doing the same thing Windows was doing, I found my copy of Xandros and put it on a secondary machine (Pentium III @ 900 MHz, 512 MB RAM) which works wonderfuly!I am quite satisfied how Xandros isn't being stupid like Windows and how easy it makes Linux to use. It has that Window and Linux look & feel to it and works amazingly well!Launching it on my network was no problem. I got connected via my DSL line in in no problem, I got my main network drive "mounted" after a little while to figure it out but it works perfectly, connecting a printer is going to take some time since the one machine on my network has a very strict firewall on it, Xandros can't connect to access the printer (however, Windows machines can all access it), but other than that, I'm quite satisfied! My friends aren't big fans of Linux (of course, they've never used it like I have) and I think they're all weird because they don't understand Linux.Of course, I seem to prefer Linux without the threat of viruses (even though so many people use it) and love it since like 95% of software for it is free and open source! In the past when I have jumped into something like SuSE (I've used SuSE Standard Server 8 and SuSE Enterprise Server 9) and I have to say, it's like jumping in a freezing cold lake. Using Xandros, however, is like jumping into a swimming pool where it's cold at first, then gets warm.Between my Windows workstation and my Xandros workstation, I'll probably jump on my Xandros one first from now on! Now all I need is an LCD monitor and some speakers and I'll have my laptop off to the side! It's a wonderful experience! I love it![N]F

Ok, I got some help from a teacher at school who really knows PHP and MySQL. He said to use a MySQL "update" instead of "INSERT"? Would that be correct for if I made a page editor?[N]F

I'm not using any software, it is all custom coding by me! My admin control panel is just a bunch of loose ended pages shoved into a password protected directory on my site. But if anyone even did break in, the most they could do is *attempt* to add pages to the system which doesn't work. There's a problem with the code I posted for the form (form code later on). I tested it again. I made a test page which should have been given the ID of 11. Nope. All I get is my invalid ID message. Here's the code to the form: <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN" "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1"><title>Untitled Document</title></head><body><p><strong>The Coconut Project :: Admin :: Add a Page </strong></p><p>Note: Pages must still be manually linked!</p><p>This script is for making a REGULAR (non-review, non other content) page. The URL for this page will be:<br> http://http://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=coconutproject&e=com name="form1" method="post" action="make_page.php"> <p>Page ID: (MUST be UNIQUE!) <input name="id" type="text" id="id" value="AUTO-INC ONLY! (1,2,3,etc.)" disabled="true"></p> <p>Page Title: <input name="title" type="text" id="title"></p> <p>Page content (right under "print friendly" button):<br> <textarea name="content" cols="100" rows="20" id="content"></textarea> <input name="type" type="hidden" id="type" value="regpage"> </p> <p> <input type="submit" name="Submit" value="Add New Page"> <input name="Reset" type="reset" id="Reset" value="Cancel"> </p></form><p> </p></body></html>What I need is this to send data to the page which contains the code I posted above which adds it to the database. Problem is, the script that adds it to the database isn't adding it to the database for some reason. I don't know why... everything *looks* correct. It's becoming a pain because I don't want to have to login to cPanel then go to phpMyAdmin and manually enter content that way... I'd rather just go to my site, /staff/, login, click a link that takes me to the form page, insert data, and then submit and link. THANKS!!! [N]F
-
Can anyone make me a code that will insert data into the database? Apparently my scripts run perfectly, but do not dump the data into the database! Also, how do I call up data from the database into a form to modify it and save it back to the database?[N]F
-
I got it working!!!! I am really really happy now! :D Ok, the thing I need you to check is the script I use to insert data. When I inserted content manually into ID "1" through phpMyAdmin, manually specifying details, it worked. Here is the script that submits data into the database but doesn't: <?php#GLOBAL DATABASE CONNECTION SETTINGS$dbname = "DATABASE";//This is the name of your database$dbpass = "PASSWORD";//This is the password to your database$dbuser = "USER";//This is the username for your database$host = "localhost";//Unless your host says otherwise, this is most likely localhost#NO NEED TO EDIT PAST THIS LINE...$db = mysql_connect($host, $dbuser, $dbpass);mysql_select_db($dbname);#END... DATABASE SETTINGS BELOW!$sql = "INSERT INTO `page` ( `id`, 'title`, `content` ) VALUES ( '', '" . $_POST ['title'] . "', '" . $_POST ['content'] . "' );";mysql_query($sql);echo "Page added!";?> Also, I need a way to edit pages directly from my admin control center but I'm not sure how to do this. [N]F

New Logo & Slogan From Intel

I just checked Wikipedia and they already have high-res images of the new logo. Find more here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel -
THANKS, Houdini!Ok, the table is in my database and is setup. What I really need, is code that can grab information out of the database and display it where I need it as I have a code that can insert information into it. [N]F
-
This is puzzling me... I have a database for a global template system I'm coding... I get all the kinks worked out of the PHP portion of it, make a test page, and this is what I'm greeted with: That's what I get in Firefox when I access the page. Actually, it doesn't matter what ID I give it, that is all that appears. I'm trying something new but I'd like a PHP script to setup a table in an existing database. ID -> This should be set to auto-inc so first ID is 1, 2, 3, you get the idea title -> This is a simple place to store the page title content -> this is where the content is to be stored. MUST be able to have HTML/JavaScript code since this is what is displayed on the page. I think my submit page works perfectly. I'll just modify it for the new table. THANKS!!! [N]F

I think since phpMyAdmin is a cPanel plugin (I know you can get it stand-alone, I have a copy of it), the folks at cPanel disable making of a database through phpMyAdmin for some reason and make you create one through cPanel. It's the same way on my paid host. You have to create databases and users in cPanel, but you can do everything else right in phpMyAdmin. [N]F

Linking A Subdomain To Invision Free Board
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in General Discussion
I think I might just load on a copy of XMB... it's my favorite mostly because it is more secure than phpBB will ever be.[N]F -
I'm the cheap sort of folk and I don't have an extra $300 laying around for a stupid license to IPB so I got a free one from Invision Free. They have this section in the amin panel about using your own domain and having it point to 67.15.4.42. They say it can be done with subdomains, so I created a subdomain, "forums.mysite.cjb.net" but I don't see anything in cPanel regarding giving a subdomain an IP address.I know it is possible, but I'm not sure how. Thanks for any information that can be provided![N]F

It's called back-ups! Well, I'm brave enough to do it.... I just need to back-up my bookmarks as that is my pride and joy in Firefox! [N]F Ok, everything is running smooth! It really did speed things up even for a junky dial-up connection! I notice a HUGE speed increase... seems perfectly safe to me... I'm not lying either... the main forum page for me can take maybe ~15 seconds to load, this took like ~5-7 seconds! [N]F

My mom just recently bought a nice HP media center computer from Circuit City. I have to say, it is the best computer in the house! Well, anyone who knows Circuit City knows they like to put out these "promotions" of buy a computer, we'll throw in this printer for free. This time, they crossed the line. My dad first went with this offer back in April. He got a laptop and Circuit City was having an offer going on, buy a computer, get this printer free. I have to say, the printer my dad got was great. I wish I had it. So Christmas comes rolling around, and I get this gift of a Canon iP 1600 photo printer (can print really high resolution photos). Of course, I knew that it came with my mom's new computer because she just wouldn't buy me a printer. Doing what just about any computer geek does, I start getting the specs of it. Nice printer, but Circuit City was cutting corners. In small print above the "What's Included" section, the following cought my eye: I had to absorb this for a moment. Buy computer, get free printer.... buy computer, free printer... For the 'n00bs' that know almost nothing about technology that wonder helplessly into that store everyday looking for a new computer, they would stumble accross such a fantastic deal of buy a computer, they will throw in the printer free! I feel sorry for anyone who bought a computer, got the printer, and set it all up. One piece would render the printer 'useless' until bought: the USB cable. Lucky for me, being such a computer geek, I ALWAYS have at least 2 spare cables for anything in my house... ethernet, USB, IDE cables, etc. I think I know what Circuit City was thinking at the time... trying to take advantage of people. Normally, they're a great store with clueless employees, but at least the employees are always (well, most of the time) cheerful. It saddens me that a company would want to take advantage of customers like that. I'll be getting their opinion on this. I repair, setup, give support, and go the extra mile for my clients. I would never take advantage of them in such a way. [N]F

Problems With A Database Table & PHP Syntax
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Programming
Ok, just to see what would happen, I moved the files over to Xisto. I fixed one thing I found in the code that I overlooked and fixed it here too... http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ In Firefox, all you see on the page is: I've tried several things but it just grinds to a hult at whatever that is. Also, I've noticed that in both databases (the one on Xisto and on my other server) it seems to contain "0 rows" and the MySQL user accounts are given full access to each database too... pherhaps it is my script that is supposed to enter the data is making an error? I think this because you can't "browse" the database like you can with any other database... it appears "empty" [N]F -
Problems With A Database Table & PHP Syntax
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Programming
Several things:1) The id isn't a number. When the page is created, you specify the ID. So in a string, the id is in the URL, page.html?id=<idHere>2) With .htaccess magic, .html is parsed as .php :huh:3) I do have basic knowledge of PHP and MySQL... except I am VERY weak on the MySQL side of things! I've worked mostly in PHP and never really used databases before.[N]F -
Problems With A Database Table & PHP Syntax

New errors: If I add a semi colon to line 24: Line 24: if ( mysql_num_rows ( $result ) == 1 ) { Semi-colon in Line #24, bracket on a new line: Well, at least there are new errors which is a good sign that we're getting close! Btw, m^e, I asked for those two books for Christmas, not sure if I'll get 'em but hey, worth a shot! [N]F -

what editor do you use? I use Dreamweaver because it has syntax highlighting built in but it can't exactly point out errors.(I'll fix the script and see if it works)[N]F
