Problems With A Database Table & PHP Syntax
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Programming
// Open the required database using the connection ID fetched above mysql_select_db ( 'coco563_content', $resid ) // Now query the database using the $tutorialid variable to fetch the correct content // Use the same connection resource id that was set above $result = mysql_query ( $query, $resid ); // Now check first whether a tutorial with that ID has been actually returned // '1' as a result implies that the tutorial exists and has been returned if ( mysql_num_rows ( $result ) == 1 ) { It's your code that you posted.... unless something in my template is causing the error? Thanks for the book suggestions! I'll look into them. I have several books that don't help much (wrong subject matter, if I needed to create a login system and a links database, I'd be perfect! )Thanks again m^e! You've been VERY helpful![N]F -
Problems With A Database Table & PHP Syntax
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Programming
boy do I feel stupid... ok, my page.html (I have my server set to parse .html as .php) won't display... how do I get it to properly dislplay content from the database? For example, a sample URL with sample data in the database is http://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=coconutproject&e=com The tutorial I followed isn't very helpful as I have modded the system into page management since I couldn't find anything like it. The original tutorial is here if it provides any help to you: http://ww2.pixelfull.com/?folio=9POR7JU99 Anyway, I need to have it where it checks the "ID" string and it looks up in the database for that ID. Once it gets that I need it to grab the title of the page and the page content. This is where I keep having my problems. I can get the page to not error out, but NOTHING is displayed out of the database. Thanks! [N]F -

Thanks m^e! I don't know what I would do without your assistance with MySQL! Looks like I may need to sit down and actually read my MySQL & mSQL book even though it is a few years old...[N]F -
Problems With A Database Table & PHP Syntax
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Programming
Ok! I finally got it working, except my database table is bad (I don't know how to properly make one) as I guessed on how to do it. I set-up a test page here: http://www.hugedomains.com/domain_profile.cfm?d=coconutproject&e=com Yes, images are broken, I know. I saved it into one too many directories on my server (I try to keep my local machine looking like my server). The only problem I have is that NOTHING show up. I need a TABLE made for me that only includes the following: -id -title -content ID is NOT a number... when you make a page in the admin area, you specify what you want, like "somepage" and this is what goes in the URL to call the proper content from the database. Thanks! [N]F -

Thanks m^e! I seem to miss things like that... once, I had a post-it note with a big semicolon drawn on it with a sharpie so I'd remember to add one at the end of the lines because that was mainly the biggest problem for me.Thanks again! Time to check it out and see how well it works! [N]F -
Ok, because I am feeling dangerous and ready to move to the next level, I wrote a simple "page generator" script for my website for several reasons: 1. I hate updating 20+ pages by hand just for ONE little template change 2. I'm expanding my PHP & MySQL knowledge... Here is an error I get on the page that is supposed to submit contents to the database: Parse error: parse error, unexpected T_VARIABLE in /home/coco563/public_html/beta/make_page/make_page.php on line 11 Now, on make_page.php, line 11 & 12 (where I feel the problem) is the following: $sql = "INSERT INTO `".$tableprefix."regpage` (`id`, `title`, `content`) VALUES ('"$_POST['id']"', '"$_POST['title']"', '"$_POST['content']"');";mysql_query($sql); Also, can someone show me the proper way to make a database? I feel the way I did it must have caused the error. Thanks! [N]F

Umm... this may sound stupid but did he get up and go to the bathroom? No one can "hold it in" for over 2 days strait... I don't use the bathrooms at my school (they are terrible and may include pot smokers/drug users here and there) and I work in District Technology until 5 PM (I start school at 7:20, ends 2:20, band until 3:20 just to give you an idea). I'm surprised the guy didn't die day 1 because of his bladder exploding [N]F

Screenshots Of Microsoft Office 12
nightfox1405241487 replied to jedipi's topic in Websites and Web Designing
My school just bought about 100+ computers last summer. When they got imaged, they put on Office XP. Office XP is like a cross between Office 2000 and Office 2003. That would be cool though if they did get Office 12. The only thing they got before me was Photoshop CS2 to replace Photoshop 6. My friend got me a pre-release copy of Office 12 from somewhere, probably a file sharing network (I don't know, I never looked and never even heard of Office 12 before then), (no serial key, copyright isn't even fully distiguished) but it wouldn't install on my main computer so I put it on an extra laptop. I think the UI for it *might* go along with Vista themes more than XP themes. But the best feature in Word is the new reference section. MLA is no longer a problem! You can easily insert your sources! And you can get real lazy, because when you make a bibliography page, it inserts all entries in A-B-C order! Of course, I don't use it that much, and their is a bug in PowerPoint. [N]F -
Sorry, no. You have several options here:1) Like xboxrulz said, get OpenOffice.org. It can open, modify and save into MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint documents and it is free.2) Go to OfficeMax, CompUSA, Circuit City (or just about any computer store) and purchase Office 2003 for about $100 or so.3) Search eBay, I am sure their are people getting rid of their licenses to MS Office.[N]F

It seems that more and more sites are designed for broadband as broadband is what 56K modems were at the time. Sites are going with streaming music and videos, stuff 56K modems can't take or take forever downloading. Yet, companies like People PC keep pushing dial-up which is theretically obsolete. Using a 56K connection today is like still using Windows 3.X for your everyday computer work.I myself have been looking to boost up my own website with lots of wonderful content. My school is about ready to say heck with dial-up users. If they want to view our site, they need to get broadband. It is true that all we want is to go faster and faster... I'm studying for an A+ certification and the study book talks about CPUs at the speed of only 2 MHz! Five years ago, we were at 250 MHz and that was for a good Pentium! But the real question remains, should we design for broadband users and say heck to dial-up users or should we design for both in mind?[N]F

Google's World Domination! Possible?
nightfox1405241487 replied to salempc's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Google's a great company... I've had previous interactions with them and their staff are friendly as can be, and very informative.as much as we would like to think of it coming true, Google isn't going to take us over... if anything, they are opposite of Microsoft...Just my view on things![N]F -
It is a nice feature, but Yahoo! Mail wins in the "Anti-Virus" category, and Gmail gets an "D-". Yahoo will allow you to send .exe files, even if they are in a ZIP file to begin with. If the EXE was a virus, Yahoo! Mail (using Norton AntiVirus) would delete it from the email. Now if it was a regular non-virus program, it would be permitted to be sent. Gmail on the other hand is being "way over protective". I work a lot in Visual Basic .NET and I like to give my friends betas of software I have written. Gmail is my primary email client, but since they block ALL exe's (without even scanning them) I have to have my friends download the EXE or waste a CD and burn it on it for them. Gmail should just unblock all EXEs and actually scan them to be a better service. It's the only reason why I don't like Gmail. [N]F

From what my one friend has shown me, Xbox 360 is better than PS3. I'm not a big fan of Microsoft and I wasn't a big fan of the Xbox, but I really like Xbox 360 over the PS3 (not just only in price, but in preformance). The only thing I'm not sure about is the Nitendo Revolution. [N]F

Apple Ipod: Trademark Issues
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Here is your bill for the Apple logo... it will require you to pay license fees in order to keep it. Welcome to Apple. Yes, that was sarcasm... but yeah, I think it was the 3rd parties that made the "Apple iPod Device" what it is today... I mean, who wants to have a website called "http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/;? [N]F -
I Just Got A Email From FBI
nightfox1405241487 replied to jedipi's topic in Security issues & Exploits
Ok, just a few questions! 1) Does the email come from a @fbi.gov email address? I never met an agent, but I am sure they have emails ending in @fbi.gov or maybe .mil or some other TLD restricted to just the government. If it comes from "fbi@yahoo.com", there is something wrong there! duh! 2) Are people really that stupid to run attachments from someone they don't know?? You hear everywhere, and I educate people, NOT to open ANY attachment from someone you don't know, just trash it, or run a virus scan as the last time I checked, a program once downloaded cannot execute itself without a command. Also, there are several things wrong with the email. The whole English is too basic for government. I'm sure they've all made it out of second grade! Second, this is the Government and they don't send emails... if you really were on 30 illegal sites, the FBI would be at your front door, not your inbox! [N]F -

Combining Databases Please help before I mess up
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Programming
The tables are in the same DATABASE, but the user TABLES need to be combined! I do not want my members to have to register and sign up twice as I think that is stupid for a module on the main site. [N]F -
I am intergrading this Private Messaging system into my website so that my members can login and access their PMs through the seprate PM software without loging in twice and registering twice since if I left it as is, that is what they would have to do... All I really need is 1 single table to be combined without damaging my few member's accounts (they are all friends, but I don't want to tell them that I was playing with the database and lost your account information... ) Since I don't know much about SQL, and with my luck, if I tried this, SOMETHING would go wrong, can some one combine these two tables into ONE single table? thanks!! This is from the Private Message System, take note that some rows (e.g. email, etc.) are the same in both! By the way, I copied this strait from the installdata.php file so I don't know if this is correct or not... `id` int(10) unsigned NOT NULL auto_increment, `user` text, `pass` text, `email` text, `name` text, `timeoffset` text NOT NULL, `count` int(10) NOT NULL default '0', `emailnot` text NOT NULL, `nots` text NOT NULL, `inmemlist` text NOT NULL, `showmail` text NOT NULL, `timestamp` int(10) NOT NULL default '0', PRIMARY KEY (`id`) This is my code, I removed user emails and MD5 encrypted passwords for security, I can easily replace them because I have a back-up for once the two are combined. The SQL below is what I'll use to restore the database once the two are combined, NAME below is the person's username, NAME (in the SQL) above is their REAL name and USER is their user name -- -- Table structure for table `users`-- CREATE TABLE `users1` ( `id` int(16) NOT NULL auto_increment, `name` varchar(25) NOT NULL default '', `pass` varchar(75) NOT NULL default '', `active` int(1) NOT NULL default '0', `activation` varchar(100) NOT NULL default '', `icq` varchar(16) NOT NULL default '', `aim` varchar(40) NOT NULL default '', `yim` varchar(40) NOT NULL default '', `msnm` varchar(75) NOT NULL default '', `email` varchar(75) NOT NULL default '', `sitename` varchar(45) NOT NULL default '', `url` varchar(75) NOT NULL default '', PRIMARY KEY (`id`)) TYPE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=16;-- -- Dumping data for table `users`-- INSERT INTO `users1` VALUES (3, 'USERNAME', 'PASSWORD-MD5', 1, '495c13caedb92061204b3e56d5ce506e824', '', '', '', '', '.com', '', '');INSERT INTO `users1` VALUES (10, 'USERNAME', 'PASSWORD-MD5', 1, '923bfeefc6559f58a568ee39fc9f41e2344', '', '', '', '', '.com', '', '');INSERT INTO `users1` VALUES (6, 'USERNAME', 'PASSWORD-MD5', 1, 'b6604b6deb693b09050c68e3605f7326855', '', '', '', '', '.com', '', '');INSERT INTO `users1` VALUES (13, 'USERNAME', 'PASSWORD-MD5', 1, '5f826043b92d3f202f5dd98e5bee6b68394', '', '', '', '', '.com', '', '');INSERT INTO `users1` VALUES (8, 'USERNAME', 'PASSWORD-MD5', 1, '4db1533bd02f5b057a1d9adb6d5fbd35685', '', '', '', '', '.com', '', '');INSERT INTO `users1` VALUES (15, 'USERNAME', 'PASSWORD-MD5', 1, 'ceade8756dd352bb836fe498ad360483945', '', '', '', '', '.com', '', '');INSERT INTO `users1` VALUES (14, 'USERNAME', 'PASSWORD-MD5', 1, '652e7d6c4441cbfeed516787a000a103869', '', '', '', '', '.com', '', ''); Thanks a whole lot! I was sitting looking at the two SQL tables clueless on how to combine them! Thanks!!! [N]F

Apple Ipod: Trademark Issues
nightfox1405241487 replied to nightfox1405241487's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I guess it is trademark stuff... like for example, I make an MP3 player called a ... "uPod". Sure, I have all legal rights to that trademark. If I owned "upod.com" and "upodaccessories.com" then there would be no problem since I own them. But I wouldn't really like "uPod Sock", a product NOT made by uPod, Inc. to be using a trademark of mine without authorization. I wish everything could just be under "fair usage" licenses and such... where as long as you use it "fairly", it's fine. Nah... lots of sites would have to go down if they suddenly ristricted use of "Windows". What would you have to call it? A "Microsoft Windows Operating System"? [N]F -
Is It Worth It To Get Gmail ? Is Gmail Good?
nightfox1405241487 replied to wazzupster0204's topic in Search Engines
Yeah... even if you put an .exe in a zip file, it still finds them... even if you send it to yourself. I like Yahoo's approach to this though: built-in virus scanner on the email servers and have it scan every attachment uploaded and every attachment downloaded. I wish Google would to this because sometimes you just need to send an exe... (keyword: Sometimes!) [N]F -
Coding A Private Message System would like assistance

I don't use forums... this is a pure hard coded membership area, not a forum so there is no Private Message system intergraded... I have to code one.
