  1. Just go to their site its the first thing you see at the top of the page. https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/ Free Download Firefox 1.0.5 for Windows, English (4.7MB) with other Systems and Languages
  2. It is obvious you have a Trojan on your computer manipulating your “windows security alert”.I visited the link and there is no site present. Also if the popup does not take you to a site that has Microsoft anywhere in the name then you should get suspicious. What windows security alert does is check to see if windows firewall is active and if you have any anti-virus software installed. It tracks these programs and alerts you if some thing is wrong.Windows security alert is a good thing! It has alerted me every time my anti-virus program sends up an alert about something or is warning me about outdated definitions. If my firewall goes down or my anti-virus program stop running or is disabled I know.
  3. Interesting topic I can see but “flaming” is a thing of the past. Stick to the subject and leave the personal feelings at a minimal. This forum lives on knowledge not what a person belive.
  4. I support Brian and would also add that I found hotel wireless networks to be very much open. The ones I have used allow you to create your own login and password to gain access. When it comes to emails though it’s always good to use encryption (PGP) or something of the sort. It doesn’t matter if you are using wireless or wired networks out going emails can be captured.Always be concerned about data leaving your computer even if it looks legitimate. Block telnet access to your computer it is the most common resource application a hacker would use to take a peek in to your hard drive.
  5. Using the bios setting is so much easier, I would recommend that rather than mess with regedit.
  6. I use Tag&Rename and think its ok but you did not indicate which ones you used.It would help if you did.
  7. A subdomain is really a sub of a domain like the name says. The domain name service (DNS) consists of the root-level domain at the top, called a “top level domain” then the second level domain and last but not least the subdomain.Take Xisto for example: http://forums.xisto.com/is the top level domain then "yoursite.astahost.com/ is a second level which is also a sub level of the top, then subsite.yoursite.astahost.com/ final sub level.
  8. And we all say time is precious. I think some people got too much time on their hands and need to share some.People with sites like that should be encourage to join forums like this so they can make good use of their idle time, and learn a thing or two in the process.
  9. I say build the credits to a secure level. It’s real hard to start all over again knowing how hard it was for you to get there in the first place.I am leaving for vacation by weekend and definitely will not leave without seeing to it that I’m covered.A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush! You figure it out.
  10. It is interesting though and I can see the logic in a three state system. For example I could see a persuasion to artificial intelligence if the third state had an “if then” representation. It’s like in the case of options. More states mean more possibility.
  11. The most common transparent graphics I have seen is GIF images.Transparency is acquired by using several methods including:1 Using the same color for the background of the graphic as the page back ground color it is placed in.2 Making you graphic background color black and set the transparency to black. Then select save as and set the file as a “GIF89a” in the options tab.
  12. Strange but true, there is a flip side to every concept of communication. There is what we consider good information and bad information that is communicated via all types of media. Weather its print, video or voice there are laws that allow the freedom to communicate. It makes it difficult for the government to control bad communication because there is some lawyer who knows a loophole that will get it classified under general communication. Most laws are not defined enough to separate the issues it has to govern and the smart guys know that. Now the US on the other hand the “freedom of speech” amendment provides a clear path for a lawyer to walk and blow a whole legal battle out of court with his client being the winner. So the porn producer just has to put a label on the package in plain view that his product is for ADULTS ONLY. And he can mass produce his product and sell it to every body who wants to buy it.
  13. Your explanation of your problem is very vague but it sounds like you have a memory problem. Swap out the memory and see if this takes care of the problem.
  14. Quite an impressive job Signatureimage but I see you left the explanation of a DNS for me.DNS stands for Domain Name Server and really is associated with DOMAINS. But of course without dns servers there will be no internet. Let me see if I can explain this in layman term. Now think of the internet as a village and a village is made up of family’s right? Each family member has an address, let’s say an IP address that corresponds to each individual name. For example Sam’s ip address is 10.1.1.1, and Jim’s ip address is 10.1.1.2.If a neighbor down the road wants to send a message to Sam they will send a message requesting permission to talk to Sam. The head of the household who handles the list of names and ip address (dns database) looks to see what Sam’s ip address is and grant permission. The reason for having this type of system is Sam’s ip address can be changed without changing his name. So if a message is sent to Sam no matter what his ip address is, will get to him because a dns tracks the changes of ip addresses in its domain. Also an internet address (external address) is not the same as a local address (internal address). A dns keeps track of all the addressing and name association. With thousands of ip addresses being changed every minute all over the world without the trusty old DNS the internet would keel over and die.Was that simple enough for you to understand? I know you did, may the force be with you.
  15. Hmmm I see a movie production here. Do we have any producers in the forum? This is the way producers make chart busting movie, by exaggerating the reality of something that’s possible but not that catastrophic.Remember “The day after”?
  16. Your computer has a hardware problem not software. It can be one of these two problems:1 Your computer memory is faulty and need replacing.2 Your hard drive has a lot of bad sectors that need to be mapped out and will need formatting.Or depending on the age of the computer the drive is dying a slow death.
  17. Isnât Xisto - Web Hosting good enough for you? If they could give such fine service for FREE here their paid service should be perfect. Check it out and see you might encourage everyone you know to switch. https://xisto.com/
  18. In your case techocian the floppy has bad sectors where the file allocation table is (fat). The machine read it the second time you stuck it in after a few tries but one of these days it will fail for good. Your best bet to copy the data somewhere else for safe keeping.I agree with mastercomputers, and suggest you run fdisk and remove all the partitions.
  19. HmmmYou guys are missing the point here. He said he does not want them to know that he is on after school. This is a hard one for you because if they log the MAC address of the computer you are dead. And there is also other way to find out who you are.Forget about it don’t make sense. If they have set rules about students being on line after school they don’t need to filter anything. All they have to prove is you were the one and you’re a*s is grass.
  20. He he, always read between the lines you will see the whole picture. It’s like saying you can not see the forest for the trees.
  21. TSk Tsk TskDon't start a flame war now guys we are here to help each other. Any help provided by anyone is always welcomed by who need the help.I am certain he would be happy for the one on one.
  22. You may have to include more information so we can get a better understanding.A few questions you can answer:Is the network secured?Do you have other wireless networks in close proximity? Also do you have a timeout limit for inactivity while connected to the internet?
  23. It’s good you have the knowledge and know how Houdini but at some point in your learning you did not even know what HTML stood for.Stop beating on others who try and feel good about it!
  24. My best bet is you have a dead drive. I have seen drives that have bad heads and or defective boards that get recognized by a system and look like they are functional. But it can also be good and you have the wrong jumper settings. Meaning if it’s old even though it may have a cable select jumper it will not work with that setting, and I have proven that. You would have to set the jumper to slave or master to get it to work. This is how you would do the real test. First remove all the cables from the drives.Just use one cable and hook up your boot drive (c:) as a master and the cd-rom as a slave. Make sure the jumpers are set correct. If the drive is good it will work no questions asked. If it does you can then try the cable select setting and see what happed, still with the two drives. If it is dead it can make a nice ornament. Good luck
  25. I saw it and don’t think it’s a movie for everyone to see. To me there was no real dialog to the stories. But the artistry of bringing comic book stories to life gets a high mark. Some parts of it seemed boring to me especially the parts where dead people came back to life.It is definitely not a family picture.
