  1. Sorry to hear about your ailment but you did not have to state what your sickness is, that’s personal.I don’t think you will have a problem going to Xisto it’s just that you can not be hosted here and at Xisto at the same time. The checking is done automatic so you will have to make a backup of your site then kill your account to make the move.Or someone higher up may be able to allow the setup of you new account before you try the transfer which don’t really change anything. You will still have to kill your account here.PM NilsC and see what he says.
  2. You may be running a firewall and have blocked IE from network access therefore no internet communication.Provide more information if this is not the case.
  3. Here is another thing to think about. You may be on the same channel that your neighbor is on so try a different channel. His signal may be stronger than yours and is causing cancellation because you’re on the same frequency (channel) with his network.
  4. Hey I want to learn how to make gas out of water, give me his number. If he could burn a cd without a burner he must could make gas out of water.
  5. I run a cgi guest book in perl and it works fine. In the past I found that the local path was slightly different with some servers and that was the main problem I had with getting scripts to work.I have a little program called testmy.cgi that is placed in the cgi-bin to test scripts for you. I will be happy to give you a copy. It was freeware when it came out, but it was merged with another program the guy wrote and marketed.
  6. A majority of dvd burner’s burn at 4X. If you would read the specifications that came with your burner it will tell you. All cd and dvd burners read at faster speeds than what they burn at.And like kenjvalip said get the latest version of nero because dual layered DVD-Rs are not recognized by some software.
  7. It’s just a security upgrade and I did it with no problems at all. The install even located where the program was installed without I having to choose a directory. And no mine is not installed in c:\programs files.
  8. If you type in a wrong password hot mail login take you to this screen. Type your .NET Passport sign-in e-mail address and password correctly. Remember, passwords are case-sensitive. If you still can’t sign in: • Register with .NET Passport, if you haven't already. • Create a new password, if you can't remember it.Also in reference to you question about “local search engine” always do a search on topics you are interested in to see what treads are started on the topic already. These questions look like an attempt to build post. You’re being monitored.
  9. If all else fails you can try this âdfg ShutDown XP 3.9.1â. This a shareware program that you can set to shutdown the computer after a timed period. There are other commercial ones for around $40.00 bucks US. Here is the write up on this one. This program is a professional shutdown, automation, atomic time synchronizing, disk cleaning and PC protection utility - the best you can get today. dfg ShutDown XP gives you an easy and thorough time controlled and automatic way to shutdown, restart or log off your system with optional power off and shutdown forcing (no questioning). Optionally it will run as a NTservice. An optional Countdown Counter (visual and acoustic) enables you to cancel the system shutdown within a time period of up to 99 seconds. The program also has a built in alarm clock function (alarm sound). Optionally will dfg ShutDown XP will protect the computer while you are absent. You can also launch a program (and wait for exit) before shutdown e.g. to start your daily backup program. All actions (log off, shut down, restart, etc. including system crash info) together with time and userID will be stored in a log file. Synchronization from your system clock to the exact time using the Internet can be done manually or automatically. It queries one of the National Institute of Standards and Technology timeservers, which then returns the correct standard time. It works through firewalls and proxy servers and supports 12(AM/PM) and 24 hour time format incl. all time zones. The standard time is converted to local time and compared with the internal system time on the computer, and adjustments are made accordingly. Optional time check automatically after Windows / program start and the Internet connection is available. The disk cleaning function is optionally accomplished before the shutdown starts. You can find it here: http://dfg-shutdown-xp.soft32.com/
  10. All you have really done is used windows user security to prevent others from seeing what you have on the computer. But like mastercomp said the admin login can bypass this security. You as a user do not have administrator security level assigned to you on your computer.1) Go into control panel then select user accounts.2) That window will show what level security you have and if a password is set.3) You can select from the list “change my account type” and make yourself computer admin. If for any reason you want to login as the default administrator? In the user accounts select “change the way users log on or off. In this window uncheck “use the welcome screen” and it will switch to classic mode so when the login screen comes up you can type in the user login name plus password. In this case you will type in administrator and click login if you did not setup a password for the admin or type in the password you set.The other way you will get “access denied” is if the file is being used by a program at the same time you’re trying to move it.Make sure all programs are closed when you try to move files well except for windows explorer, also extensions.
  11. Check out âAcousticaâ their software set the standards. They are what I live by really. http://www.acoustica.com/
  12. It really boils down to what you want it for. For example someone who is always on the move would definitely be more suited for a laptop if he or she can not afford to get both. Or if that person is a techie like me and need one for trouble-shooting in the field. Laptops are nice to have and prove themselves worthy 99% of the time. But like rkage say there are downsides to them also. They cost more than desktop with same specs, and can really warm up your pants with long use in you lap. You tend to crouch over a lot which is not good for you posture, and the list goes on. But wouldn’t you be happy if you could fold up your car and take it with you when you travel?Laptops to me are for convenience so if it’s convent to you to have one then get it. But still fix up you desktop. Or if you can’t get both, the laptop may have the edge in my opinion. You can take it anywhere and still use it at home.
  13. You guys are really getting intense here. I stay away from irc because it’s addictive and you burn up a lot of time, especially in the warez department. The kind of devotion I see here you guys all deserve a medal. I have too much responsibility to devote this kind of time.Good luck with the project it’s a good one.
  14. This is a lame attempt to add hosting credits, you could have at least make a tutorial with real contend and do a good job.Was this ment to be a tutorial?
  15. There is a bit of confusion with this USB2.0 thing. Manufacturers are supposed to use a special logo that show “hi speed” in a red portion of the drawing to specify that the unit is high speed. That is why you have to be careful when you buy products that claim to be USB2.0 compatible because the real high speed unit will come down to level 1.1 and work any way.USB 2.0 is configured mechanically and electrically and is backward compatible with t he older 1.1 standard. If you have a PC that has USB 1.1 and you plug your Hi-Speed USB 2.0 peripheral into the USB 1.1 system, your unit will perform at the USB 1.1 speed. If you would like to use High-speed USB 2.0 on your system, you will need to update your PC either by adding in a PCI add-in card or purchasing a new Motherboard with a discrete host controller that supports Hi-Speed USB 2.0 and installing Hi-Speed USB 2.0 drivers. Just installing the drivers will not make you system USB2.0 compatible.
  16. Well it look like time to do some upgrading. Is the PIX506E still supported by SISCO? Because if its not you are left with a door stop.I am just getting involved with CISCO routers, switches and firewalls myself because I would like to become CCNA certified soon and find that they support some of the older routers while discontinuing support for some of the later ones. I don’t know if this is done with any of the firewalls though.
  17. These are called favicons if you search the forum you will find a topic on the subject already. It just a little icon you make and store at your site and write a little code in you page to display it.
  18. A sit file is a Macintosh file created with a program called “Stufit”. It is like a zip file for Macs.Meaning it is a compressed file with a sit extension.
  19. What you are asking for you will not find here. The reason as you know is it’s illegal to copy commercial DVDs. You may have good intensions but you are not the only person who will see a post describing how this is done. There are a lot of websites that provide this kind of information and for someone to post their links here is also against regulations. Sorry!
  20. It’s interesting how people can change the topic of a post from a simple question to a spitting contest. Or a flame war on browsers or something else. If we could only read the original post and understand what the person is asking for or talking about it would eliminate some of these pissing competitions.Ignition was just asking if someone knew of a simple browser with less bells and whistles to the popular ones.
  21. I think what is confusing him micro is the credits and good posts. What he really needs to understand is he will get hosted for ten (10) good posts and an up grade for fifty (50) good posts. The credits are to keep him from being suspended. The reason for the credit system is, some people get the free hosting then don’t post any more because they got what they wanted. The credit system keeps you posting. But on the other hand good credits can get you hosted also, like micro said.Of course management can intervene and make decisions to grant wishes or not to.
  22. Developers are always working on their creations to improve them and fix bugs. I have never had a problem with FireFox and like anything else if an installation is not done correctly then you will have problems. Some people think that they will see the same things when they switch to FireFox like they see in IE. They don’t read the information provided and miss the fact that the most common extensions, plug-ins or what ever you want to call them ActiveX etc. that makes a browser vulnerable is what was left out of FireFox.Service pack is now a house hold word thanks to Microsoft but that will not make me not buy their products. Vulnerability is now a common word amongst computer users but wasn’t ten years ago. All software are vulnerable to exploits hence upgrades and service packs.Food for though: There are laws for people to abide by hence we have criminals.
  23. Some times virus creators make harmless viruses to see the impact on the target (us) and for people to get complacent about them. Then a second third and fourth are released with the same names that are deadly. Always tread a virus treat as harmful if you want to be safe at all times. Like I have been taught always expect the worst in an alarming situation. Viruses are not to be taken lightly no matter what kind.
  24. I this one of those free link exchange thingie?I think you need to check with a moderator before you try this if you are planning to host here.Read the TOS with a fine tooth comb and ask a question about anything that is not clear to you. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
  25. What this mean is that some of the sectors that the OS is sitting on is corrupted that is why you were able to get it up before with a little trouble. But it’s now getting worse. You can get the data off it if you have another drive with an OS that will boot, set this drive as a slave or second drive if you use cable select. Set the other drive as the master or first drive cable select. This way this drive will show as your drive D or E and you can remove what you want. You can then format and the computer will mark the bad blocks and will not write to them again. If it is an old drive the trash bin is a better place for it.Let us know where it ends up.
