  1. Let me explain a little better which I should have done before. There are many types of alterations to software that are called mods. For example the Garry's MOD are small additions to games to enhance them and are accepted, but software that hackers write to nullify time limit on commercial software are also called mods which is what I think backflip was asking about.Cracks on the other hand can be illegally generated serial numbers and fake registration and are usually black listed by commercial software producers. Now there are also small enhancement programs that are written for phpbb forum that are called mods and hacks.
  2. Dynamic Drive is where I go they have quite a bit of scripts for dhtml. http://www.dynamicdrive.com/
  3. Harriko is right both are illegal and if you read the tos and rules of this forum you will find that such discussions are not allowed here.Cracks allow you to make a demo proram work as a registered one, and mods do the same. Nothing illegal is allowed.
  4. Here is my favourite: I call it a Heineken moment on New Years eve.
  5. Hmmm the purpose of a firewall to block communication to and from your computer. In the event a malicious program or someone is trying to gain access to or send information from your computer. Now if the firewall is setup for the first time it will block every communication that is attempted by your computer. So you have to monitor each alert and decide if you want to allow or not to allow that communication to happed or if you want the firewall to remember to do the same action the next time around. This gets very annoying at first because every thing seem to get blocked even network communication. You must also take into account that 99% of the programs on your computer try to communicate when they are started including windows explorer.Don’t panic the sky is not falling in it is a normal procedure. Also remember to set it to check you mails for viruses. No one can gain access to your computer via WI-FI if you don’t have such capability or it is not setup.
  6. Telnet has been around since the 80s and is what companies used for data transfer between sites in the old days. The existence of broad band wide area networking was build from this foundation and still uses the same principles. Network specialists still use telnet as their #1 tool for troubleshooting routers and firewalls etc.
  7. Curiosity for most of us is what gets us in trouble. A lot of people open mails with viruses simply because they want to see what is in it even with the amount of warnings from supervisors. At my job I have had to disable individual mail accounts simply because the owners just don’t follow the rules. But like the quote says “Inquiring minds want to know”.And we have all looked at porn sites just out of curiosity right?
  8. For it to expand automatic you have to set the table width to 100%. This will always full the screen width no matter what you adjust the browser window to.Example:<html><body><table width=100% border=1 bordercolor=#000000><tr><td>Text here text here</td></tr></table></body></html>This table window has a border that will expand with the browser window.
  9. To me Dreamweaver is designed for different levels of users and I have been using it for quite some time now. What I like about it most is the plugin capability and integration of other Macromedia programs. I use it for everything including css and java editing. It reminds me of Microsoft Office because it has similar characteristics. You can grow with it as you become more proficient. And I must say that it’s hard for someone to tell you how long it will take you to develop a site because that depends on your skills and how much time you devote to it on a daily basis.
  10. I have used McAfee in the past and also Norton, but I now use Symantec AntiVirus Corporate Edition. I always think that using more than one gives me the chance to catch with one what the other miss.I’m also trying BitDefender right now, thanks to micro for the info and I think I like it, if only for the mail scanning which it seems to do well.
  11. But even if you change it the new name will show. It seems that some people did not put in one when they filled out their profile and that is why one does not show for them.I am not worrying about it any more because the administrators don’t see it to be a problem.
  12. We are all here for mostly the same reasons. To gain more knowledge help others gain more knowledge and be inquisitive. A place for us to hangout with people who look like they know what they are saying or have extensive knowledge on a topic. But it can be irritating when you ask a question and the first reply you get states “you can go on google and do a search for the xyz you are looking for”. We all know how to do a search on goolge right? But the reason you asked the question was to see if someone had already research the information you’re looking for and could provide it faster than searching through tons of pages on google and long hours. So could the users who respond with go on google and search please let someone else who can provide valuable information make the first response? And no I’m not angry but have seen too many of these responses on a lot of forums I visit and think they are useless. Now who want to bite my head off?
  13. I admire your effort to keep people in check, if only a few more users who have the time could join in and help.I can see the quality of responses improving all the time and the number of users growing steadily. But the policing have to grow also, it could become quite a task for one or two persons. I wish I had the time to make the kind of commitment you do.This forum is going places.
  14. Ok here goes! You have to make ten posts to get the starter account and fifty posts to qualify for the standard account. Then you have to stay active and keep posting to maintain posting credits. If your credits fall to zero your account is suspended until you get it back up and it will be reactivated. The amount of days you can stay without posting is show when you login. Read it carefully and it would make sence. That wasn’t too hard to understand was it?szupie if you can't answer someone question don't give false information or answer and tell them you can’t help them. I’m seeing quite a bit of this from you, it don’t help.
  15. Remember that a database has tables witch links each entry in a record. For example when a person make a post an entry is made in the database with a record number, the person who made the post, date, time, post count and content of the post etc.For you to add a post count you will have to include all the other things that are linked to it as mentioned above. The reason I think you will not find such an option in a bbs.Deleting a post is easy the system just delete the record with all of the content of that post.
  16. Hey harriko thanks for the research work! I just decided to take the bull by the horn and really get cracking with PHP. I have been making excuses for too long now and really need to learn this thing.Even though I’m a hardware man I love programming. Maybe we can work together and share info.
  17. What you are using is a free web photo album from jalbum.net with the “BananaAlbum” skin. You may be able to reverse engineer the swf file but may violate your agreement to use their product free. It’s just a small price to pay for getting a free page that work for you.
  18. We have tons of them here in the US including Tiger Direct, CybertronPC and last but not least eBay where sixty percent of us buy ninety percent of the things we want.eBay is an auction site yes but I have bought everything I ever needed to do with computers there at some of the best prices on the net. It is the bigest market place on the net for anything.
  19. I never saw it because I did not pay much attention and just waited until I reached the requested number. But I always wondered how a new user got up to thirty and forty posts within the same day they joined. This forum really teaches you a thing or two, even the experienced ones. hmmmm
  20. I have seen this problem a few times but it corrects it self by the next day or few hours. I really would not bother with it since the site is still up. Like every thing else nothing work perfect all the time every time. So I just try and try again at a later time until it works. In a nut shell? (Donât Panic) please stop posting here and check this topic: http://forums.xisto.com/topic/82002-topic/?findpost=1064289670=
  21. Ok now I understand what you were complaining about with the white edge from the ones firedoor did. Your background is a picture and not a solid color so if one makes a logo that is transparent it will show the white haze around the edge because shiny representation is represented with white (like light reflection). You can only make a transparent background common to one color. So your solution would be to make the background a solid color with a transparent logo or affix the logo to the current background. I hope you understand. NEW * The same is true for the logo it has to be a solid background and foreground color that is why yours work. It has a white foreground and a black transparent background. I have used your logo to show you /legacy That means your logo will not have a 3D effect. I don't know if the one with the 3D text will work for you.
  22. Ok here goes! Check this link and see what I did /legacy This should give you some ideas and you can mix match. The files are 11k in size but can be compressed to about 6k and still look the same.
  23. Ok I will try and give a hand here but I must say that black on dark blue is a no no.Especially if the text is small like what will fit in the space you have.White text for both lines will look fine and should be considered.
  24. I have been using version 7 beta for some time, and have upgraded each time they fix something. But I must warn some of you 6.2 users with plus; there is a copy of plus that has spy ware and Trojan back doors in it that create a tool bar and drops short cuts on your desk top. It also hijacks your default search site and creates a banner at the bottom of your page. It creates a second internet explorer file that keeps its files running. If you open your tasks manager and check the processes tab you will see 2 copies of IE running even if you are not running IE.I don’t know if anyone know how to get rid of it because it ties itself in to IE in some way. The reason I switched to firefox, just could not take any more.Bill has more enemies than hair on his head.
  25. You have to look beyond the trees to see the forest. I think your problem is the volume control for your speakers. I have seen similar problems like this and found that the volume control was faulty due to the cheap design, one of the tracks gets worn faster and cause this problem.Get a pair of jumper clips and bypass your volume control and see if the left and right don’t balance out?
