  1. It's hard to say. I've always been a Nintendo fan, but the GameCube couldn't really compare to the power of the xbox. But this new machine is looking really good and will still play GameCube games as well as the older N64, SNES, and NES games. So I could play Donkey Kong Country! My favorite game of all time.
  2. And after you make the image you will need to upload. If you have an FTP server just upload it and then put something like this in your signature: [IMG]http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/; (put the url in the "IMG" tags)
  3. A domain would be http://www.domain.com/. A sub domain would be: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. Where did you see a free domain?
  4. That is always a good option, buy a new computer instead of paying for the upgrade. I want a new iBook (or PowerBook if I had the money).
  5. Well it's free when you buy a new computer and you would probably want a good, new system to get the most out of it. Remember: AppleStore is just a click away!
  6. Do you have one of the new PowerBooks? They look sweet, but my favorite is the Titanium PowerBooks. They had a nice look. It's too bad Apple discontinued them. Really any Apple laptop (made in the last five years) looks better than any other laptop I've ever seen. They are just so simple and elegant.
  7. I would just do it for the @mac.com email address! Thats cool. I'm off to go get one now...
  8. Pages is very cool, but it can't be called the best word processor because thats not really what it it. It's more of a really nice page layout program. (which of course also processes words, if you know what I mean)
  9. FedEx dropped the little computer off on our porch yesterday. It may be small but not under-powered. It's has an 80 GB hard drvie, a combo drive (read/burn CDs, read DVDs), 512 MB memory, and a 1.42 GHz processor (PPC, so thats like a 2 GHz Intel, kinda) It's not an incredibly powerful machine, but it's the fastest computer in the house now and we're all very jealous. I came with Tiger and iLife '05 as well as a demo of the new iWork. Nobody can belive how small it is. I don't know how Apple packed so much into such a tiny box. I think I want one. (to replace my 366 G3 iBook)
  10. What about the iPod mini? I guess it doesn't play Ogg. but other than that....
  11. The iPod shuffle doesn't have all the extras, but it does what people really want: to listen to their music. Because when it comes down to it, thats what people use an MP3 player for.
  12. Here's my quick review of some of the tyhings I like in Tiger:Spotlight: It really is amazing. My brother brought over his iBook that he just installed Tiger on and even though it's an old G5, his Spotlight search was fast and the results were easy to use. I really liked it. My only concern is how big the database file is that has all the information about your indexed hard drive. Other than that I think Spotlight is great! Dashboard: It's cool, but it's really not for everyone. Some people might just as soon not use it and thats okay. For those people who do use it, there is a lot to be done. You can do just about anything with a widget. As Apple has said, "Where there's a widget there's a way." Some of the concerns I have are that I've heard that it uses a lot of memory so you'll probably want a new computer and some people have used Safari's auto install as a security hole. So far I haven't heard of Apple planning to do anything to fix it. There are a lot of other cool features too. Safari RSS, Mail 2, Automater... I would say that this is the biggest step in OS X so far. I only I had a computer to use it on.
  13. You should be able to upgrade you G3 to Tiger. Apple has said that any computer that can run Panther should run Tiger. You do need a DVD drive to install it. (unless you use Apple's disk trading program.) I have used Tiger and I love it. If you've got the money (and especially if you qualify for an education discount) I recommend it.To put is simply, you can't upgrade your iBook from a G3 to a G4 or G5. It might be possible, but I've never heard of someone doing it. It just wouldn't be worth it. So I would say your best option would be to buy a new iBook G4 and then you could get Tiger and iLife '05 for free.
  14. About the internet connection: My iBook has never had problems with connecting to our DSL. The one Windows PC is constantly loosing the connection and it's always on. My iBook is sleeping when ever I'm not using it and it still far more reliable.
  15. I couln't live without a computer (at least, I wouldn't want to). But also a computer without internet access is almost just as bad! Four of the five applications I use most, Safari (browser), Mail (email client), Adium (IM client), Cyber Duck (FTP Client), Taco HTML Edit, all need to require internet access to be useful. The only one that doesn't use the internet is Taco HTML Edit, but what's the point of web design if you can't use the internet?People used to be able to live without computers, then they started to rely on them. Computers used to work fine before the Internet, now they need it.
  16. I've been trying to figure out what Longhorn will do. I went to Microsoft's page for Longhorn, but I didn't see anything not available on Mac OS X (other than Longhorn's icons can go up to 256 pixels, Mac OS can only go up to 128, using Panther (10.3). I don't know how big they can go on Tiger (10.4) ). Has anyone found a third party site that gives any clues as to something new or unique about Longhorn? Maybe Longhorn really is some great new thing, but Microsoft has a harder time telling us what that is than does Apple. If anyone knows any cool new features of Longhorn, I'd like to know.

    Hi!

Yes, welcome! We have some good people here and probably most of us know what it's like to loose you web hosting and go hunting for a good free host. It's not easy, Hope you like it here!
  18. The iPod shuffle really is a good product. Really the only downside when compared to other flash players is that it doesn't have a screen, but it really doesn't need one. Even people using a full size iPod don't always need a a screen. they just set it to shuffle and listen away. then most flash players have small screens and a bad user interface, so not even having one is not really a bad thing. The other thing that has help the shuffle is the iPod name. Now anyone can own an iPod. The name sells.
  19. Okay, here is the beta version of my widget. If someone would like to help me out by downloading and testing it, that would be great! It probably won't be too useful for you unless you frequent my forums, but if you could test it out for e anyway, I could really use it. I don't have Tiger yet so I've looked at it in Safari, but I can't preview it in Dashboard myself. If you could try it and send my some screenshots that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
  20. Thanks! That is a good spot, but one thing, it's nice when you post a url if you make it a link. If you don't know how, just put url tags around it in the post. Example: [.url] http://forums.xisto.com/ http://search.url.com/ [./url] http://forums.xisto.com/ (just leave out the "." periods.) That give you: http://search.url.com/ Thanks again!
  21. I'm not sure what kind of thing would be able to do that, but you might be interested to know that Keynote can now export as Flash.
  22. Yeah, I really agree. Google just is the best all around search engine. So look no farther: Google.com.
  23. We just got iLife '05 and it reminds me how much I LOVE iLife. Which one is your favorite? I'm thinking GarageBand. Making movies with iMovie and iDVD is fun, but I don't have movie to edit very often. iPhoto is nice and iTunes is awesome, but you can get it without iLife. So Thinking GarageBand is my choice. I want to make some tunes.
  24. I want Photoshop for free too! And Garageband. I think it's one of the best iLife apps. You know that makes me want to start a poll!
  25. I don't think you could install Windows on a Mac like that (would would want to defile that innocent little Mac mini! ) But you should be able to install some version of Linux and of course Mac OS X (Tiger! ). But as for Windows, I think you would have to use Vitural PC. Windows doesn't run natively on a PowerPC system (a Mac). You could always buy a brand new Dell for like $50 (with monitor, keyboard, mouse, and printer ) Then set it up by your mini. And if i got got--when it get viruses, it won't hurt your Mac.
