  1. Friend of mine is going to be trying to use that same system.Did you partition your drive or are you using it on an external drive?Sounds like my friend is thinking of buying an external drive so she won't hurt her main computer.
  2. External sound card might be a good thing to try out. Friend of mine had problems with sound cards and found this and just ordered it. If it works, she will be happy. She was always looking for the latest drivers and tearing into her pc. Maybe you will find one in a store near you!
  3. Thanks for the link. I like those make-your-own-avatar sites. Here's my favorite: Illustmaker.Abi-Station.com. It has a few more options. This is the one I made with it:
  4. That is a sweet looking blade set. Swiss Army Knife is always good to have to keep in the car. You never know when you might need the scissors or tweezers. Now the new one would be good as you never know when you need to grab some research off the university computer to take home to complete.Nice.Think I'll tell my brother what I'd like for my birthday is a certain knife with usb drive.
  5. How can you guarantee traffic to the site? That is hard.I have enough trouble getting people to post on my forum on a more regular basis. It takes time to build up a following on any site.Free is always appreciated.
  6. More ram never hurt anyone.Have you tried doing a reformat? It might seem drastic, but sometimes that is all you can do when things get wonky like that.Could it be your speakers? Try using headphones to see if any sound comes out.
  7. Same on Apple computers, you lose some of the hard drive to the system resources. The way it works is the system (no matter what you use, Apple or Windows) will take what it needs first, just as it takes the ram it needs before you can have it for an application. The larger the hard drive, the more you "lose" to the system. Doesn't matter if it is an external or internal drive, you still don't get to use it all.
  8. Freeverse has a good mahjong game. It has music, sounds and all the bells and whistles. I have a friend who uses it in Mac OS X and says it is easy to play and pauses if you have to go away from the keyboard. Hope you like it!
  9. I read about a new free place called abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz.comIt is supposed to be such a long email address that no spammer would be using it.Have visited the site, it is pretty nice, but not sure I want to have such a long email address to hand out myself!
  10. The Cloak allows for some anonymous surfing, but you are limited unless you pay for the service. I still think there are ways to track people. No matter what programs are out there, newer ones are being created to be able to follow the footprints left when surfing. Best thing to do is not go where you don't want to be found out!
  11. 25 years is a long time, longer than I've been alive!I wonder if most of the window users even think about how much work and time has gone into the personal computers.Technology has changed the way we use computers. No longer are there huge rooms filled floor to ceiling with giagantic heavy loud computers. Now we have smaller, more compact and much friendly to use computers and I am glad to be among the users. Some people can't tell you what platform they are using. They just say they are using a pc or state the brand name. Yeah, dude, I'm using a Dell.Happy Birthday, Windows.I still love my MAC OS!
  12. You bring up some interesting pionts. I just have a few questions. I don't see what your problem is. Isn't that the purpose of a computer? To do work for the user? Could you give some examples of how Mac OS X do too much? Also, you say that Windows does so well because it pleases the biggest group of people. Back in the 90's Apple was having some trouble and was putting out some pretty bad stuff. Meanwhile Microsoft was doing well and gained a big market share. At that point the contest was over. Microsoft won the OS wars on good bussiness, not got tech. More people were familiar with Windows, so those that didn't want to explore their options choose Windows. And more programs were made for Windows (because more people had it.) this led to more people using Windows. Which caused more programs. More Widows users. And so on. It's always been about business which is why Linux has been able to compete with Windows so much better. Linux is free (can't beat that price) and it is available to that large market (anyone with Windows, no new computer required to try it out.) As far as quality goes, I think any OS is petter than Windows. I personally prefer Mac OS X.
  13. Screen savers weren't designed to save energy. They save your screen, hence the name. When your computer is idle the screen is displaying the same thing and some monitor will "burn". (screen burn, you know.) The idea of a screen saver is that it keeps the pixels changing and prevents them from burning. And then people thought that instead of just turning off the screen, they could entertain people. There, thats the story of the screen saver!
  14. Unbelievable. Those are absolutely amazing! Thanks for the links. I can't believe there are that many people that are that talented.
  15. Dont' feel too embarrassed (unless you did something really stupid) You should be glad people care enough about your site to give you feed back. And thats another thing: If you are new to web design (and even if you 're not) giving your users a place to give feed back it always nice. You can use a guestbook, forums, or just an email link.
  16. Looks good. It's took me awhile to figure out what you changed on the 2nd version. I like the red trim on the second. Nice job.
  17. I haven't made my own RSS feed yet, but here are some links: ⢠Intro to RSS ⢠Another basic RSS article ⢠Feed For All (a program for creating RSS) I hope that helps. If you find a really good RSS site, post it. please. I would like to learn RSS too. Thanks.
  18. I have heard from a lot of sources that some of those sites are legitimate. People have claimed to get free iPods from FreeiPods.com. But there are things you have to do to get it. Usually you have to buy something or subscribe to something, then get other people to do it to. It uses the same idea to make money as a pyramid scheme. I think if you really want one, you could get it, but just buying it might be easier.
  19. I think I found what you are looking for. I found this link from Google: http://9031.com/goodies/ It looks like a pretty cool screen saver. I think I'll try it on my iBook!
  20. I've seen something like that before. And the first and last letters do help a lot, as well as the context of the word, with both of them you can read quite fluently. It's really cool!"paomnnehal" can be rearranged into "phenomanal" which is only one letter different from "phenomenal"
  21. I agree. I like the idea of having a phone/PDA combo. It makes a lot of sense, but since I don't use a cell phone, thats not practical for me. So I'll just have to get the LifeDrive. (I already have a Zire 72, but I wouldn't mind having one of these!)
  22. Check it out here! This thing is cool. It has 4 GB of internal storage, enough to make a nice portable music player. It could compete with the iPod especially the iPod photo. It has built in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, the second Palm to have them. While your on the road this could be your computer. Find a Wi-Fi hotspot, check emails, browse the web, create Office-compatible documents, listen to music, watch movies. It's not too expensive, but still pricey. What do you think?
  23. It really needs some more memory. Here are some pictures:
  24. Yeah, what is this doing in JavaScript. You can make a forum wil PHP, but I don't think JavaScript would be very helpful.
