Yah, I agree. Only toolbars from the top companies like Yhaoo, Google, Alexa are useful and safe. Never install toolbar from an obscure website. More likely than not, it's spyware.

Need Help On Search Engine Submission Needed answer.
jcguy replied to avalon1405241471's topic in Search Engines
There are a lot of search enine submission websites out there. Some even claim to submit your website to thousands of search engines! However, you should be aware that most of these search engines are rarely used. Only the major search engines like Yahoo, Google, AJ, etc attract almost all the traffic. It's better to get your site in these top SEs. -
Mozilla Browsers Do Not Accept Absolutepositioning
jcguy replied to evion's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Did you code your HTML or CSS according to the W3C standards? Mozilla browsers are more strict with coding and adheres strcitly to W3C standards than Internet Explorer. If your coding is accurate by W3c standards that Mozilla should dsiplay what you want correctly. -
Do you need a large sum of money to setup a web designing company? I know of a lot of teenagers who have great technical skills in web designing and development but lack the money to start a web design company.I suppose you need to pay for your domain name and web hosting and maintenance...so that customers around the world can reach you and so that you can put up a portfolio of your work. What other capital costs are involved? Thanks in advance.

Good Comments Make Good Html. Commenting makes HTML easier to write.
jcguy replied to vujsa's topic in Programming
Can commenting in the coding be done in php and perl scripts as well? I remembered vaguely that it can be done in php and perl scripts, but I think the way of commenting will be different. Does this code:<!-- commenting -->works in php and perl too? -
Send And Recieve Files Through Phone
jcguy replied to soleimanian's topic in Websites and Web Designing
This Telnet thingy reminds me of a technology that is very hot right now: voIP, or voice over Internet Protocol. voIP is a way to turn analog phone signals into digital signals that can be sent over the Internet. In other words, you get to make phone calls via your Internet connection instead of through your phone line! voIP allows you to enjoy savings as it's often cheaper to send data through the Internet than a phone line. -
Actually, cpanel has a function that can allow you to protect specific directories and folders with a password. It's called WebProtect if I'm not wrong. So put all the media and downloads in a folder, say, "Downloads", and enable webprotect for their folder. Then , give out the password only to your website members or something and you shld be fine.

When using frefox to view your site, if there's a message there goes something like this: "Addtional plugins are required to view all media on this page" at the top of your firefox, then you know for sure that you haven't got the necessary flash or shockwave player installed for firefox.

In the days of the Internet boom, pay-per-view advertisements really pay a lot. You could make a fortune by putting up such ads on a really busy website. Now, the payout has fallen significantly. I think people do not notice ads every more. The model of advertising networks has shifted to a pay-per-performance model, which provides better return on investment for advertisers.

In fact, Blogger is owned by Google. Google purchase Blogger which was owned by Pyra Labs, a company working on blogging software. It's was a smart desicion Google in view of how hot blogs and blogging are these days.

There are some really useful tools and web services that can improve your productivity at the computer. One of my favourites is a service called Furl, found online at https://www.diigo.com/?source=redirect_from_furl. It's a tool that allows you to "save" a copy of any webpage that you would like to archive or read later. A description: "Furl will archive any page, allowing you to recall, share, and discover useful information on the Web. Browse your personal archive of Web pages, and subscribe to other archives via RSS." Furl really is useful than trying to save a webpage you want to read onto your hard disk, because normally you'll have to save embedded files like stylesheets, images, etc.

Paypal Without A Card... can i accept payments?
jcguy replied to amkint's topic in Computer Networks
U can receive payment from your customers by asking them to send their money from their paypal's account to your's, but if you're talking about taking credit card payment on your online website from customers, then you can't do that if your paypal is a personal account as opposed to a business account, regardless of whether your account has been verified with a credit card. -
My Visitors Increased From 5 To 170 For Free! is it you, google adwords?
jcguy replied to amkint's topic in Search Engines
How on earth did you manage to set up an Adwords account and run google ads without making payment details and credit card details? Is there a new option for Adwords? Is google giving out bonus advertising credits just for signing up?I've tried adwords before, it's certainly effective in drving traffic to your site, but I ended up paying $15 after 5 days of advertising. -
At the very least, web designers should place important elements of their webpages at the particular area as shown in this study where visitors put their eyes on first. This ensures that your important message is picked up immediately by most of the visitors. I think later movements of the eyes are not as important as the first place the eyes are placed on when viewing a website.

How to Reduce Spams Let us help fight spams.
jcguy replied to iGuest's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I doubt that Hotmail actually releases our email addresses to third-parties. It's clearly stated in their legal notices that Microsoft will not share our emaill addresses without our consent. I don't think they will risk tarnishing their reputation by doing such a thing that spammers do.However, if you opt-in to receive email from Microsoft partners, then it's perfectly alright for Microsoft to reveal your email to their partners. -
Haha, I actually had Google Adsense on my website some time back. I agreed that your website must be receiving a lot of visitors to have you earn money via Adsense. I didn't have enough visitros, so I got my friends to help <- snipped -> But Google found out anyway and confiscated all my earnings.}

If you, like me a few months ago, simply find your computer too slow and bloated, you might want to consider taking the drastic step of reformatting your hard disk and starting everything afresh. All the spyware and whatever unnecessary software will be deleted and your computer will be as good as new.Be sure to backup your important data though.

I've a question to ask: can I request more bandwidth for my hosting account? Do I need to trade my posts for additional bandwidth, or do I just request the admins for more? If I need to exchange posts for bandwidth, say 1 gig, how many posts is that? Thanks

What do you think is the best colour to use on your website's background? Personally, I prefer white because it gives the impression that my site is very professional and it's always easier to read on white background.I've seen other colours like black, green, blue, and so on. Which background colour do you think is the best to use on a website?

I read a rather amusing article about a porn search engine with the name "Booble" and with a search interface modelled after Google's. Now Google's going to sue Booble! Haha. Apparently, it's a parody of Google. Extract: Booble takes a poke at Google http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2004/01/21/1074360801017.html Parodying Google, the world's largest search engine, a US entrepreneur today launched Booble, a new search engine for adult material. An unnamed New York-based former internet executive has pumped his own money into the new website, which its founder said was intended to be "fun, but useful too". It allows users to filter through more than 6,000 hand-selected listings of internet adult content. "I have a web development operation where there is a bit of a frat boy atmosphere, so we stumbled on Booble," said the founder, who requested anonymity to avoid being barred from his daughter's school softball games. "What was a bit fun and a joke became a business. People like it. It makes people smile. It's funny and I think it'll grow," the man in his mid-40s told AFP. The adult sites to which Booble users will be directed have been filtered to exclude illegal or extremely hard-core material, using criteria including whether a site is worth the price it charges viewers and the quality of its images. "It is fun, but there is a real story behind Booble in that it's hard to find good adult content," the founder said. "There are about 25,000 adult sites and a fraction of sites in really major categories like movies and music and sports, causing a lot of clutter and confusion." The businessman, who said he was once a senior executive at "one of America's leading online services," said he ended up spending far more money on the venture than expected but declined to specify the amount. Officials from Google were not immediately available for comment on the new adult search engine whose name and home page bear a striking resemblance to those of Google. "We don't have any relationship with Google but we have put a link to their site on ours and so far we haven't heard from them," the anonymous founder said. "We don't want to do anything is illegal - it's a parody, it's funny and we're not out to confuse anybody so we hope they will take the joke in the spirit in which it was intended."

I tried this tweak, and Firefox does fetch files and pages faster. But on my computer, it's still quite slow for surfing the net. I suspect it's because Firefox is using up much CPU on my computer. What can I do to further speed Firefox up?

What Is: Rss? A short brief about RSS
jcguy replied to madman9999's topic in Websites and Web Designing
If you want a free RSS aggregator to read your RSS feeds, I recommend Bloglines at http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. It's online-based, so you need no download and install anything. And it's very very useful. And it's free! -
I thought that I'll post here in case somebody else has the same problem and can help me out so that I won't need to bother the admins. Still I'll PM them. Thanks
