I came across this while surfing CoolQuiz. Today In History September 5, 1980 Switzerland’s St. Gotthard Auto Tunnel, the longest underground motorway in the world, opened. Traffic moved along the 10+ miles that took ten years to build and cost $417 million. 10+ miles is very long, mind you.

Well, i think it's fair enough because Xisto is after all offering free hosting and it needs funding.

I've found something related: the new image format, PNG. PNG stands for the Portable Network Graphics format. It was designed to replace the older and simpler GIF format. I quote from their homepage:"For the Web, PNG really has three main advantages over GIF: alpha channels (variable transparency), gamma correction (cross-platform control of image brightness), and two-dimensional interlacing (a method of progressive display). PNG also compresses better than GIF in almost every case, but the difference is generally only around 5% to 25%, not a large enough factor to encourage folks to switch on that basis alone. One GIF feature that PNG does not try to reproduce is multiple-image support, especially animations; PNG was and is intended to be a single-image format only."I hardly use PNG images; do you?

I'll fill in the backup part: Backup This is where you can make a full backup of everything in your account, a home directory backup, and mySQL databases backups. Simply choose your option, and you'll be able to download a zipped file of your backup. Here, you can also restore the backup you've made in the case of you losing any data. -
Is using the File Manager in Cpanel better than using FTP software to upload and manage files? Is there any different? From my experience, using FTP is faster and easier. What's your take on this?

I was reading this article (https://news.slashdot.org/story/99/08/29/0722236/unisys-enforcing-gif-patents) and I didn't know that it is actually illegal to use GIF images! Apparently, the company that holds the patent for GIF was threatening to sue webmasters who use GIF images. But I think the patent has expired recently, not very sure about that. Interesting

I'm interested in learning PHP, but I fear that I would have no time to learn the language and master it. How long would it take to develop good competence in PHP? I think I'm going to learn using technical books.

I'm quite confused about programming languages. My friend told me that you can make web pages with C++, but I thought that there is only one programming langauge for web pages: HTML? I know that languages like C++ are using for writing programs, but can they be used too for web pages?

Is Fedora Core an OS? I've never heard of that, I think Windows is too dominant an OS in the market that pple in Europe and even US are suing Microsoft for monopoly abuse.

I use IE 5.0, but I've tried Mozilla. There were a lot of reviews saying that Mozilla is much faster, but when I tried it out, it was pretty slow. Is it because of I having 2 browsers installed on my computer?Mozilla is good, it allows me to access some sites that IE doesn't, like Paypal
