If I run my own seb server using my computer, do I have any restrictions, like say disk space and bandwidth? Given that almost everything I need for my webserver can be downloaded and installed free, isn't it better to run my own webserver instead of using hosting from webhosts? My Internet connection is quite fast, though not 24/7 online.

The I-pod The effect I-pods putting on music ind.
jcguy replied to iGuest's topic in General Discussion
With the huge success of the iPod, there have been many so called iPod-killers - alternative digital audio players like the Creative's Zen and iRiver and Sony products. Each claims to be able to beat Apple's ipod, but so far iPod is still the clear leader. What do you think of these iPod-wanabes?I personally think that the iPod's X factor is its design. Super cool and stylish. -
I'm just curious; what happens if you delete one of the folders which you aren't supposed to? For example, if you deleted the mail folder, what will happen? Will I not be able to use and access my email accounts anymore? If I deleted the folders, is it reversible? Can I re-create the folders?

Copyright Issues & Messages can I do this?
jcguy replied to m3ch4's topic in Websites and Web Designing
I'm not an expert at copyright laws, but in generally, if you coded the javascript program that generates a mech from images you've shot, then you should own the copyright to that script. But be sure to attribute copyright of the images of the mech to the correct publishers. -
I pity you... Internet companies should know the the golden rule to doing business on the Internet and succeeding is excellent customer service. Even if these companies do not interact with us face-to-face, they should know that, still, we're doing business with them and buying stuff from them. The least we as customers expect is decent customer service.

In any case, the adoption of XML as the primary programming langauge for the Internet will be very slow as most designers and programmers are still coding with HTML and CSS. Internet users are also familiar with HTML and will be averse to XML.But I agree, with the more powerful language of XML and the increasingly adoption by cutting-edge internet websites, it will replace HTML as the main language in the Internet.

I just use my sony ecrisson camera phone to take digital camera. No doubt I admit that the picture quality cannot be compared to a digital camera, but buying a digital camera is so expensive. My camera phone is easy and convenient.

I've heard that Certified Ethical Hackers are in high edmand now in the Information Technology industry, which is improving after years of slow growth. I've read many news reports of how Certified Ethical Hackers are earning hundred of thousands of dollars and the job sounds good.

I've done such tweaks on my computer's Firefox, and it has certainly make my Firefox run faster. However, I've seen forum postings warning about such tweaks to Firefox because it can destabilize Firefox. Is it true?

Although I'm a big fan of Firefox and simply loves its many features and solid security over Microsoft's Internet Explorer, I don't think that Firefox can become the dominant player in the browser market. Firefox will continue to capture market share from IE, but I doubt if it will displace IE as the dominant browser, even after many years. Microsoft is a multi-billion company and can easily spend lots of money on developing IE, while Firefox is made by the Mozilla Foundation which may be handicapped by a lack of resources.

Is it effective to advertise your website on Craiglist? I heard that it's a popular classified ads website, and very useful to people looking to sell property, cars and so on.

On first looks, my first impression of Bidvertiser is that it seems to be a very professional company. The web design is professional and worth of a reliable company and the content and information on the site is quite helpful. I would say Bidvertiser is a good and reliable alternative to Good Adsense. However, it's a new company and I've yet to see sites carrying Bidvertiser ads. Is the payout high?

I've always wanted to create rounded rectangles but although there are many tutorials for doing that with Photoshop on the Internet, there is a lack of such information for GIMP which I happens to use. Can anyone shows how to do that with GIMP?Thanks

I would recommend that you use Movable Type which is simply the leading blogging software in the current market. Many professional and commercial blogs are powered by Movable Type. It has many powerful features, is highly-customisable and supports many wonderful plugins developed by fellow users of Movable Type.

Free Domain ( Limited Time) YOU CAN CREATE YOUR OWN LTD
jcguy replied to soleimanian's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Yah, I suppose it's good only for your own circle of friends and family members who may take the trouble to download the browser plugin. But if you intend to promote your website to the rest of the world, that sort of domain name simply isn't suitable. A proper .com or .net or .org domain name is more suitable. -
It's disastrous if you use a .tk or any of the free domain redirection services out there for your business or corporate website. It really conveys a really unprofessional image for your business. I can recall an incident where I came across a web-hosting company on a .tk domain.

I think that most of the free file hosting services are going to collapse and go out of business anytime unless they start charging for their services. It really costs a lot ot provide the file storage space and bandwidth for such a service. In fact, you can use Gmail's 2 gig space for storage too. It's free and unlikely to collapse anytime soon.

The search engines actually frowns on such search engine cloaking. They see it as you trying to trick users of their search engines into pages that appear to be very relevant to their search as seen by the robots but they actually aren't. If you're not careful and the search engines detect your cloaking attempts, they can ban your site from their indexes.

Typography An important thing of design
jcguy replied to hihihihi88's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
I feel that Typography is an important element of web design. The use of certain fonts can be used to convey a professional image, which is very important for companies, as well as other impressions such as cool and funky, and so on.It would definitely be very useful and helpful towards your web design if you decide beforehand the image that you wish to convey to your website's visitors, and select the fonts that can create the effects.I want to add that a visually appealing and well-designed logo can help to convey your message and image across as well. -
I don't download and use Google Toolbar because I use Mozilla Firefox as my main browser. Firefox has a built in search function in the top right hand corner of the navigational area, you can search not just Google, but also Yahoo, Amazon, Ebay and many other search engine easily via there. Also, Firefox has a built-in pop-up blocker already.

Google Adsense Alternative Alternatives to Google Adsense
jcguy replied to OpaQue's topic in Online Advertising
How is the payouts like for the alternatives to Google Adsense programs, like Adsonar Quigo, Targetpoint Ads, and Adhearus Ads? I think that there's a greater number of advertisers advertising on Google's network, so the payouts on Google Adsense would be higher. What's the average payout per click from the alternatives? -
Is there really a book of Mozilla in the bible? There isn't, right?I think the Mozilla developers are really creative with this, and you can tell that they're proud of their Mozilla products too.
