What do you feel about the name TRAP17?

Recommended Posts

sure is pretty easy to remember but its still kind of bad, i mean trap? trapping us or what? =P they decided for the name then they could't change to anything else because they might lose people maybe

No...it's not like that. If you read the Xisto story, you'll know that the name Xisto holds a special place in the founder's(OpaQue) heart. That's why he decided to name it like that. I'm sure not even 100, 000 members could make him change that name :)

I think its cool. I love the number 17, and Xisto sounds like a name for a band or something. well, it doesn't have a connection with free hosting accounts or forums. But, since Xisto is offering free hosting service and subdomain. I would definitely go for mywebsite.trap17.com than mywebste.freehostingifyoujustkeeponposting.com... right? I can see why they chose this name, it sounds cool and it could go with any type of website.

Well, the name is normal for me, Xisto seems to be spelled easily, it can be remembered easily too, so what do you need more? It's short too..But I agree that I don't know what it means and what it should have meant in the beginning :)

I'm surprised this thread still gets responses after all these years!@AuxiliumI'm not sure if you've read the story behind the name. It all started off with an Internet cafe and people who visited it would get a portal page to start browsing (I believe it's the equivalent of a home page - you might be able to get a screenshot somewhere in the forums... it has a red background and a black spider web). The idea of the web portal expanded after the Internet cafe was shut down and it went with the original name. Some of the members on this forum were customers at the Internet cafe and they can relate to the name - it's associated with some old memories. Besides, after having built upon the name for so long, it would be pointless to want to change the name.

A name is a name is a name... lolBe judged by performance and service quality - they determine the level of success - the name is irrelevant. ...but to answer the question, I like it. :P

I was looking for free web hosting, and when I came across Xisto, I was like "what kind of name is Xisto?!?". Anyhow, like they say, you can't judge a book by it's cover. But I do think that the "Trap" is a little odd. What trap? What are you trapping? And the 17 part, it seems somewhat unprofessional, because 17 sounds like it's 1 year underage. (Underage for what, who knows?). Anyway, I think Xisto is probably a 30-minute thought-out company name. I think you guys should at least scrap the 17 part and turn it into hosting, so at least people can get that the website offers hosting.?

When i first saw the name I was also kinda suspicious, expecting it to be some kind of portal site to some spam site selling cheap porn or Viagra. So at some stage there was a 50/50 chance that i would have avoided Xisto based on just the name. Anyhow i landed up here and soon realized it is not as bad as the name sounds. Interestingly enough I did go through all the other trap1-16 domains to see what else is there. But non of them had a active decent working site. It Goes to show that the founders/founder of Xisto had to do allot of hard work to get where they are today. One upside i see from the name is that it is rather short and easy to remember. Sites that end up in my bookmarks cause their names are too long to remember, tend to usually get lost within the bookmarks or when the computer gets reloaded.

Hi!@wayneI agree - the level of service, which includes the performance of the servers and the perceived quality, is what determines whether users will keep coming back after they register.@thejodeI think the name kind of fits in with the free web hosting services. In the past, I've tried 8m and 100mb (or was it 100megs?) and neither offered a decent web hosting service. Geocities was pretty good for static page hosting though.@knoppixusrWhen I first heard about 1&1 (One-and-one), I thought it was some sort of a singles dating website but then a co-worker sent me the URL as 1and1hosting - seeing the word "hosting" indicated to me that it was a web hosting provider, so that set things right.

Hello Xisto is a unique name. Its unusual though efficient. Trap sounds strange, why trap?.. And 17? Still searching for the mystery behind. So long it does its job, i dont think anybody cares about the name, a free web hosting at that. Hope i dont get stock with the trap because i haven't found any!.

Well, honestly I didn't understand it until I just got reading the story behind it. I was sort of confused... 2 random numbers (17). Haha. It didn't leave a bad impression... I just didn't understand it and kept on with my business. Haha.
