  1. I don't know that the battery would be covered by warranty. It is a 'disposible' part and is designed for only a certain number of cycles. Furthermore, if it receives 'spikes' or surges, that will weaken them, as will cold conditions. I run into the same problem with battery drills. It is usually cheaper cost-effective to buy a couple of new drills than replace the batteries. A drill set is 100 bucks and the replacement batteries are $65 each, so there you go. Laptop batteries are different, though. Last time I bought one it was $110 for the battery, but $500 for a new laptop, so it depends...
  2. The Beatles tune that starts out with the lyrics "When I find myself in times of trouble Mother Mary comforts me..." leads me to remember the modern day expression: "Adversity builds character... ". Perhaps it comes from this ancient quotation from Horace, a Philosopher:"Adversity has the effect of eliciting talents, which, in properous circumstances, would have lain dormant."What that means to me is that we should strive to work hard and challenge ourselves in our daily lives and set goals which, at first, appear un-reachable. But, through being persistent and striving diligently towards these goals, we will improve ourselves as individuals. And reach the goals we have set for ourselves.Along the same vein, "Mountains are the means, the man is the end. The goal is not to reach the tops of mountains, but to improve the man." -Walter Bonatti, Italian climber.It is the journey which is important, not the goal.

  7. No. The IPB version 1.3 is no longer legally available, so it will not be allowed on the servers.
  8. Nope, Xisto - Web Hosting does not provide free IPB Forums.
  9. In order for php files to be handled correctly, they should have a file extension of "php". For example: filename.phpThere are other ways of handling the parsing of files as php, but that is the simplest. The other way is to make some changes to your .htaccess file to change the list of file extensions which get parsed as php. Sometimes html files are parsed that way, but it slows down your site because all html files get parsed if you do that...Did you install XAMPP? If so, make sure to store the folders and files within the htdocs directory.
  10. you may have to wait 48 hours until the name gets propagated on the web.

  12. It appears that Opaque is busy with the Databases tonight.There was a posting over at Xisto earlier and my Forum and cpanel are currently not available, either. A temporary situation, I would imagine. Please be patient.
  13. I voted phpbb because of its ease of install, its price and its ability to easily mod or skin. I am actually looking forward to phpbb3 being released soon.
  14. I'm thinking this topic should be closed. I just find it a bit repulsive and don't see where it leads to decent quality of posts.
  15. I have both a desktop and a laptop. Neither of them are perfect and each has their palace in the overall scope of things. I use the laptop (Compaq) when I am not at home and the desktop for my Internet browsing. (an iMac) I find the risk of the virii on the Internet to have been a problem, so arranged for the iMac from a friend to avoid the problem resulting from downloading virii and trojans, etc. And an external disk for transferring stuff between them. Works for me.
  16. Yes, php is available on the Xisto Hosting packages, but due to the requirement of having to load the files up to the server, run the script on the Xisto server through your internet connection, make changes, re-upload the files and re-try the code to eliminate errors, etc, many (or most) php coders find it more convenient to install a server, php parser, and mysql database configuration on their local machine to write, test and debug the coding prior to uploading. It is a lot easier to manage locally. XAMPP is an auto-installer that easily adds the necessary softwares onto your machine allowing you to simulate the Hosting service available at the Xisto on your desktop or laptop without clogging the Internet connection or the Xisto server. Believe me when I suggest that it is usually alot more convenient to have your own install locally.XAMPP is pretty much a one click install and includes many of the same features available on the Xisto. Apache, php, mysql, phpadmin, perl, mysqladmin, etc are all included. And most of the fantastico modules are easily downloadable onto your machine for modification prior to installing at the trap, too, so I would reccomend that you perform the XAMPP install on your own machine simply because you will find it easier to manage your learning locally.Also, download the php manual from php.net and the mysql documentation, too, onto your machine. They are excellent reference tools.
  17. I suggest modding the original code to place the list-style: none on the <li> element because with it placed on the ul, it displayed the bullets on the individual elements, but when used as an attribute on the <li>'s, they bullets went away. This might be a Browser specific behaviour, though. I don't know... #navigation li { float: left; list-style: none; }
  18. I am using Netscape 7 and clicked on the last link in your signature and after 154.773 seconds the request had not yet opened your page, so I aborted the enquiry. Have a look at the page to see if the coding is messed up, because it seemed to take a long time to not do anything.
  19. As in "we are CAPABLE of eating meat" ??? Humans are omniverous (sp?) We'll eat anything. How did this become God's fault? Fruits, beans and vegetarian foodstuffs are also the "Lord's bounty". And Humankind's purpose is to fill the role of being responsible for maintaining order in the food chain? Animals fit into the Planetary Ecology in many ways, some create waste which are food stuff for others, some are food stuff for others to create waste. Round and round the cycle goes until Humankind throws the system off-balance. Because Mankind is at the top of the Foodchain doesn't mean we should control it or alter it to the point where the production of our food is adversely affecting the Regions of the world that produce it. ( Toxic waste ie: fertilizers) The Agricultural Revolution began a long time ago and lead to Man leading a stationary lifestyle, (meaning non-nomadic), which eventually leads into the Industrial Revolution and onwards to where we are today. Global pollution, Global Warming , Global Inequalities in Lifestyles creating adversarial positions between cultures and sub-groups. (war and Conflicts) I am not vegetarian, and I'm sure not in the group of smartest people on the Planet, but I watch what I eat for several reasons, Health being one, and I also buy local product where ever possible. The amount of fuel and energy spent on shipping Beef around the world is insane. New Zealand Beef purchased locally for less than the Local Beef? How do they do that? It can't be good business practice to allow massive amunts of fuel to be consumed that way, and it surely can't be good for the health of the Planet. Even I am smart enugh to notice that.
  20. Okay, thanks for that info... I fixed the title.If you select to 'edit' the first post of the Topic which you start, the Topic Title and description should be available for editting. At least the Mod's have the ability to edit them at that time, so in case it doesn't work that way for you, simply use the report button to send a message to the Mod crew and one of us will fix it for you, no problem. It was not that long ago that there was no edit feature for the members, so we got used to having to fix stuff for typos, etc. I kinda miss the olden days (yea, right!)
  21. The Name is different in the Title and the link, so which one is correct?Attention to details such as this are important with computers and the Internet. I am not going to click that link until you confrim it. I already have two computers in boxes from Virii and Trojans, I don't need another.
  22. This link is from the cssplay site and is a standards compliant, css-only, zero javascript dropdown menu. Have a look and see if it will work for you and then post the code for a page which uses it and we can assist with the modifications as you need. *edit* I had some time, so did a view source and picked out the juicy parts from that page. their are two sets of IE conditional statements there, one for IE6 and another for IE7? and the basic structure of the drop-down depends on an un-ordered list which contains nested <ul>'s inside the <li>'s? Neat coding there, with the display being invisible until the on-hover state is acheived. Well, simply exchange your main menu and sub-menu contents while maintaining the css for the menu class and you should be all set... Good luck with it. Hope you learn something from this...
