  1. OK... great. I've got a few people that I really want to nominate... Of course, I won't be nominating for myself... I personally don't think that it is right... but I have a few names and some of them overlap the criterias... oh well, I'll do my best. This is the list (so far, that is... I haven't gotten everyone down and stuff... but I might add more to that later...): Moderator of the Year- rvalkass!!! For helping me all the time... I was deciding who to give "Most Helpful Member" to until I saw this one... I thought that it would be perfect for you... (sorry, jlhaslip. It was a close one... ) Most Helpful Member- I don't know about lending a few myCENTS credits for those in need. I don't think that there is a feature like that one here on Xisto... but anyway. This goes to mahesh2k for helping me out on basically everything throughout the year ever since I came here as a total noob that doesn't know the difference between a domain name and a hosting webserver. GFXtrap GFX Elite- Um... Tramposch? That is the only member I can think of being related to any GFX things in Xisto... and plus, the hosting of the SOTW (SIgnature of week) competitions were great until Tramposch got busy and couldn't go on anymore... 1337 Programmer- Haha, I felt sorry for jlhaslip so I thought I would nominate him for this one... this is for helping my with the php() info code when I first started... I'm pretty sure there are other programmers out there, though I don't know much and only jlhaslip came into my mind. Welcome Committee- Um... SpiderVV? He always goes around in the introduction sections to post about important things and stuff like rules and all that, so I think that it should go to him. Dr. Phil Wannabe- anwii for me... he helped me quite a bit... though I don't see him that often now... hmm... That is all for now... I want to put a few more people somewhere, but I don't really know where... (people like The Simpleton), but anyway... a question: is Saint Michael also eligible for this?
  2. Raj... haven't I seen you somewhere before??? Hmm... Let me see... Um... tkforums??? I nearly thought that you were a old member of Xisto, because your name was so familiar... but everyone didn't seem to recognise you so I recognised where you came from and knew I was wrong... You've been following this site for a while, huh? I'm sure I've seen you somewhere before. Don't tell me you're stalking me!!! I nearly skipped your thread... because well, you're rmammen here, now, aren't you? but anyway, regardless of whether you are the same person I know or not... because you might not, this is a webhosting company, so you can host a free website here... But anyway, SpiderVV has provided you with all the important links, but if you want to host a website here, you will have to earn myCENTS. Firstly, post a minimum of five posts, and then register at the Client Area of Xisto's Support and Billing Centre here with the same email as you used when you signed up here. Then wait for a few hours and then you should be able to see a myCENTS under your name. You use these myCENTS to pay for your hosting and your domain name if you want one. It is pretty easy to earn myCENTS, and you can start hosting basically in one day if you post a lot. Remember to read the rules and FAQ first before you break any rules or you might lose myCENTS... Good luck!!!
  3. Hiya blo blo, hey, nice name!!! Are you looking for free hosting for your own website? Then this is the best place you can ever go to... welcome to Xisto!!! This is the only webhosting company that I know of that lets you "buy" a top level domain name and unlimited hosting for free... of course, you will have to post for this, thoguh. But it is incredibly easy. So, how do you get started? Well, firstly, you will have to post a minimum of five posts... it's pretty easy!!! This is to make sure and to show that you are not just some random spammer going there to promote your website, but a true member of the forum. After that, proceed to the "Client Area" of the company and register there with the same email as you used here. This is to provide the link between the two websites, and to show that the two accounts are made from the one and the same person... You can register here. After that, wait for approximately for a few hours, and you should be able to see the myCENTS under your name... it's just so easy! You can easily be that able to earn a month's worth hosting in one day, and maybe a top-level domain name in a week or so, depending on your posting frequency and length of posts... 100 myCENTS is the same as one US dollar, and you will be able to see it in your Client area at Xisto Coporations' Support and Billing Centre... Of course, if you break any rules like copying and pasting and something like that, you will lose myCENTS if the moderators catch you!!! TO prevent this, you should remember to read the rules and FAQ first before you break any rules or you might lose myCENTS... actually, the rules are simple. Just don't spam, don't copy and paste!!!
  4. Yeah, I suppose. Paid forum softwares are always better than the free ones, right? I don't know... I'll just leave it to the experts. I don't really know much about them, sorry. TO me, the only difference are the smileys, and I really like them more than the other forum software ones. I like the bold look of them. But if SMF isn't compatible with myCENTS system, then obviously I would stick with IPB. It's not like I really like SMF for some reason... I just like their smileys, that's all... but just forget that... it was only a suggestion. I don't think I'll see Xisto using SMF one day anyway...
  5. If that is the case, then I really don't know who you were talking to... obviously someone with bad influence... DUDE, the legal age for sex in Australia is at sixteen, so I don't know why "everyone" would be having sex, or "getting laid" as you said at the age of fifteen. Sixteen, I believe, is still too young for sex, so I really don't know who you were talking to. For all I know, I know that I am certainly not going to have sex when I am fifteen, and most certainly not sixteen either. And basically everyone goes to secondary school... I can't believe that guy just said that. Basically everyone finishes high school too... I know that there are lots of bad schools out there with sex, drugs, smoking and alcohol problems... even the best schools in Australia have problems like this too... but seriously, not everyone is like that. And I most certainly am not. I am totally, basically speaking, totally horrified and disgusted at what you have just suggested... and I'm not even fifteen yet. I know that Australia might be hugely influenced by the USA, but seriously, you won't see students shooting their teachers or anything like that here... and certainly not everyone have sex in their teens... God... That is just... so plainly... sick. Be careful who you talk to on the internet, OK???
  6. I don't think that you have to buy another domain just for that... I mean, you only want subdomains, right? And not a proper domain? I believe that it is possible to separate the two subdomains and link them to different sites though. You can do this in your cPanel, I think, though I haven't had any experience with them yet. If you just want the same amount of diskspace and bandwidth then you will have to buy extra hosting. Remember: if you are going to buy another domain just for another server, then you will have to pay extra. Why not just use the same server to do the two different sites? I think that it is possible for that... if you ever need diskspace or bandwidth, just upgrade your hosting account...
  7. Um... you can look at things in two ways: Bias as a forum member attempting to be an administrator or actually putting yourself in the shoes of the administrators... but either way...:- I would change the look of the forums because I don't really like the template at all (even though I know that this is better than the previous version, sorry!!!)- I would reduce the size of the forums so that it is more narrow because I don't like the wide look of it taking up the whole entire browser screen (you know, the rows of different forum topics)- This is being bias here: I would give more myCENTS to everyone!!! Or just have posting as optional. Tee hee!!!- This is NOT being bias here: I would intergrate a flat myCENTS system instead of a discouraging one where you get less myCENTS the more you post because it would discourage members, which is probably why most of the old members leave this forum anyway... I agree with them. While it may do good to encourage new members, I believe that a flat system would be the best because it discourages multiple accounts and does not discriminate old or new members at all... this is the best system for our members-Be more active in the forums!!! I haven't see any admins around recently... a visit would be nice. You know, admins always used to be so active when the forums are new and they are eagerly promoting their site and after that, after they get some mods they just forget the site and make it work for them...- Get some more interesting topics!!! Because things seem to go bland at the moment. Or maybe because I don't understand half the threads due to my novice computer knowledge...-Use simple Machines Forum instead of IPB!!! Mainly because I like their smileys better than the IPB ones... haha. Um... that is all for now. I will post more points later once I get some more ideas and get some replies for this thread... I just don't want to be a sad loner.
  8. No... my site isn't yourrealname.com. It is well, myrealname.com, but you replace that with my actual real name, let's say, for example, johnsmith.com. Sorry for the confusion... yeah well, SEO can come later. I just need to get it set up a few weeks before the end of the school year so that I can show it to people when I move schools... Wordpress IS the best blogging CMS, but I need it for other purposes other than blogging too, and Drupal and Joomla is much more flexible in that. And yes, I believe that my host have support for .htaccess, because I can find the file in my filezilla connection page. Do I have to do something with that? 40 months is good, but the pictures will probably be less than that. I will mostly blog with text though. But I seem to be using up my diskspace very fast. I haven't even touch it and it has already used up 8mb. I wonder why... I am going to have TWO blogs, just for clarification. One is my public blog, and the other is my personal blog for my family, because a partial portion of my family is overseas, and while I may telephone them once a day, I don't speak much, and obviously I won't be telling them what I did every single day on the phone. It will be much more easier to blog it and let them access it with a username and password. Plus, I only need one username and password, because they will all have access to the same pages anyway. I am thinking of using my public blog to blog about philosophy, life and all that stuff. Do you think you will be interested? This is because I have an interest in that stuff and I would like to share my ideas to everyone. It would be wonderful if at least someone would be interested, so I know that my blog and my efforts will not go to waste. I am also interested in art and photography, and I have some ideas for different projects. Basically, I'm an all rounder... not saying that I am good, I am mostly novice at these things, but I have many interests. Am want my blog to be something like a graphic designers, photographers, and a blogger, so it will intergrate all of those things all together. After all, while you may fit a blog into a certain niche, it is hard to fit a person into a certain niche, so it will be all of these things... Do you have any idea how to do that? Also, another quick question: You said that subdomains don't do as well as pages like something.com/blog compared to blog.something.com. Can you explain why? (I'm just thinking, maybe this is another reason why Xisto.com/forums gets good SEO... dunno, just speculating) No, I don't use Xisto - Web Hosting, I use another host, and hence the 1GB diskspace and 10GB bandwidth. I am not worried about that yet, but I was just thinking about the future. That can come later and I will make another thread on that. I am thinking of moving hosts and coming back to Xisto once I use up all my resources. Hopefully by then though, I will have enough money flowing in from the ads that I won't need to worry about moving hosts, and just have to move to the paid version of my current host. It's very cheap, around $2 USD per month for unlimited hosting, and it is also wind powered and is environmentally friendly, which is exactly what I like, and would also suit the purpose and morals of my site... The problem is that I need more than one blog, and so I don't think that wordpress would be a good idea. I also need a number of static pages that would allow me to update new things, also similar to a blog, like for my photographic projects and all that, so I thought that having a more flexible CMS would be better. I am thinking of using Drupal because I know how to use that more than Joomla!. I've got a basic idea for my site already, as I have explained before, so I should be fine. The reason why I was thinking of using a sub-domain is because I can use one, though I don't mind both ways... I mean, what are you meant to do, not use sub domains when you can use them anyway? But I would like it if someone explained why subdomains don't fare as well as pages though. If this is the case I might put my personal blog in a subdomain instead... but I mean, blog.something.com does sound better and is easier to type than something.com/blog, right? I'll take a look at your thread, thanks... and I think that I will do well in SEO with my domain name. After all, people will get through to my site searching for my name anyway, right?
  9. Ah... that's why. Try to refrain from editing your posts when you make them, even if it is for a typo. I edited a post just for that and got into the negatives too!!! If editing a post is just so necessary, make sure that you check your posts next time so that you won' t be as likely to need to change your posts again!!! And if it's a long post... well, just make sure that you don't copy and paste things from other websites, though for me, I don't seem to need that because somehow or rather I can always make what normally someone would post as a short post quite long, though I really don't know why. Try as I might, even if I shorten it as much possible, it still turns out to be pretty long with lots of comments, so in the end I usually just gave up trying... But that's just me, I suppose... ...
  10. Ah... thanks for the information. Unfortunately, I use a Mac, so I won't be able to download Windows Live Mail because it requires a Windows System. But anyway, I don't mind, because I can use Thunderbird and I won' t be using Hotmail but Google Apps Mail, so I should be fine. The main problem now is creating CNAMES that is required for the making of a Google Apps Gmail Account, but I will make that in another thread... but thanks for the suggestions, everyone... But just to make this clear... the main purpose of this thread wasn't to find applications like Thunderbird and Windows Live, because most of the time, more often than not, I will be seeing myself using the Google Apps straight from google.com. It's just that I want two email addresses that can be view differently without having to log out and log in from different accounts. So, it's like one account with two different emails, one for personal and one for public purposes.... I am pretty sure I am not the only one in the world to have this idea first, so I just want someone to tell me how to get one account with two different emails on it. That's all... apart from the filters, are there any other alternatives?
  11. Haha, nice... I'm glad I was able to help you with my novice translation... Oh, and I didn't know it was "Girl's Generation"... strictly speaking, it is the "Time of the Young Girls" or something like that... But I was close...Anyway, enjoy your songs!!! I suppose I didn't help with some of it though, but I reckon I was pretty close. Good excercise if you want to improve your Chinese translation skills, I think. Anyway... Cheers.
  12. Swiftfox? Nice... I might do a search up on that and take a look at it... Firefox seems to me to be slower than Internet Explorer, and I wouldn't say that it is the best of all the browser's, despite it's popularity among the computing using population. It is often rather slow, and it always, for some reason, always goes offline suddenly or can't find a certain server or something like that.Similar to Mac's Safari's problem, I must say... Also, While you can easily add and delete bookmarks in your bookmark bar, I find it much more harder to do that in Mozilla Firefox than in Safari. The only reason why I am using Mozilla Firefox most of the time is because of Xisto and it's logging in and out problem that I have in Safari. Of course, Firefox does not eliminate the whole entire problem, but it makes things more bearable. Another reason why I am using Mozilla Firefox is that because it allows me to download the local webserver WAMP, but not MAMP. So know I have two local webservers... :)But I might want to take a look at Swiftfox and see what it does...
  13. I was just looking at the start page of Firefox Mozilla and I realised that they now have a Beta 3.6 version of Firefox to use!!! You can all try it out at: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/. The big button is for the Mac Version though, but on the bottom, you will be able to see many other different versions of the new Firefox Beta for different types of computers... Pretty cool, huh? But I thought that I shouldn't try it out first yet. I still haven't learnt how to fully use Mozilla Firefox myself, so I'll get lost straightaway in the new version, especially if there are still bugs and things like that that hasn't been fixed yet. But feel free to test it out if you feel like a challenge!!! (Or not!!!)
  14. I believe that it is possible... try searching Google or the code or something. I've seen many sites that use google as their search tool, though more often than not it is actually just some ads though... Wait... are you wanting a search tool to search IN your site, or outside your site like a database like Google and Yahoo! and Bing?I don't quite understand that part quite well, sorry. But if you want to search for things in your site, try using templates that defaultly have a search function in their site, or again, look for modules that you can integrate into it... (I guess that's about all I'm going to do to answer your questions, right?) Even if you are not using an open source CMS, I suppose you can still download it down, open it with a text editor and copy and paste the code in it into your site... That idea just popped out of my head all of a sudden. o_0
  15. Isn't there a module for everything nowadays? If you are using an open-source CMS like Joomla or Drupal, then I believe that you should be able to find what you are looking for if you put in a search for calendars...I'm pretty useless, aren't I? All I know how to add some PHP coding into my site is to search for pre-made ones... But then, I suppose you will know how to change the looks to suit your needs, right? I hope so...
  16. No, you get a refund for it... the support will help you. I have been in a similar king of situation before, and they cancelled both my order and my invoice so I got my money back. However though, the due date of your domain name will not be on the day that you successfully register your domain, but on the first that that you registered your domain, regardless of whether it is successful or not. For example, I falsely bought a domain with some problems in my information of my country because I was on holiday at that time and I went overseas, so the IP address of my computer wouldn't be the same as the one I have at home at the time of buying. Five days later, after I sorted out my refund and cancellation of my account, changed all my details correctly, and then re-ordered my domain name, even though it is the second time that it is successful, the domain name will expire five days before, when I originally tried to buy the domain name. But that's not a problem though, because it's only five days... Just thought that you should know about this. Oh yeah, and there will then be two domain names in your domains tab in your clients area. I don't know why though, but they will be the same.
  17. Haha, like you, I also go for cPanel, Diskspace and Bandwidth... and I agree with you that Xisto provides all of this for posting. However, I have found another host that gives you much more Diskspace and Bandwidth than the normal Logic Plan, which only gives 20mb where my host gives 1000mb diskspace without posting and 5000mb diskspace and 50000mb Bandwidth with 50 one liner posts per month. I am planning to upgrade soon, after I do everything. Once I use everything up, I will then proceed to move back to Xisto and choose the unlimited plan. Of course, that will take a while, seeing that I have a lot of space to use up in a long period of time. But anyway, by that time, I will probably be all advanced and pro already and know php3 and php4 and java and all that coding off by my heart already, so the changing of hosts should not be a problem then.

    Hello,

Hiya wana12,I'm glad you came to Xisto. Are you looking for a free hosting and a registrar company for your website? If that is the case, then this is the perfect place for you. You can get your own free website and a Top level .com domain name here. All you have to do is to register at Xisto Corporation's Billing and Support Client Area with the same email as you have here, post a minimum of five posts, wait for a few hours for you myCENTS to show up under your name in Bold red, and then you can begin your journey to a free website!!!Of course, you will have to read to rules and all that first, but anyway... Even if you aren't here for free hosting or a free domain name, you can still post here at Xisto to ask questions and all that as well. Feel free to broswe around and welcome to our forums!!! Cheers, nameless.
  19. Hmm.... I don't know anything about that, but I just thought that I should answer because you haven't had any replies yet and I felt sorry for you. Is it possible to just link different sites that have the function that you want? I mean... well, yeah, that isn't exactly what you are looking for, but I really don't know how to help you. Plus, you will have many different resources now that might work in different ways...Another alternative (I don't know if this is possible), is the somehow "hack" in to the website and get their coding for the functions that they have that you want. Or you can try searching for the web for modules or nodes that you can download and integrate into your site and change it (if you know coding) to suit your needs... there are the only two or three possibilities that I can think of though... but I suggest you to wait for more replies from the more advanced members of the forum before you do anything else... Cheers.
  20. Yeah, I suppose... I mean, I will still post though, but only post my questions on domains, emails, and FTP softwares and how they work. Basically, just to get my website up and running. But then, if that is the case, then there will be quite a huge amount of people posting questions and hosting support threads up and no one to read them or answer to them. And that would be bad... very bad. Plus, I don't think that we will be able to get a free TLDomain Name here if there aren't any myCENTS, and that would just make Xisto look like some regular free hosting company with a free hosting company service quality, and not a paid hosting company quality service that is actually in fact, free and only needs your posting. What do you think about that?
  21. Hey... look at your myCENTS. It's in the negatives... remember to read the rules and don't spam or copy and paste things from the internet though!!! Things like that will cost you myCENTS, especially if your posts are edited or moved my the moderators or the administrators. Remember to post your own original content!!! Don't worry though, you'll catch up and go into positives again if you follow the rules and post a lot. Good luck!!!
  22. Yeah... Like inverse_bloom, I nearly chose matter, but in the end I chose love... Let me tell you why... sentence by sentence... Let me get the quote first, so that it will be easier to cut open int bits for easier understanding. Here it is: "But if you do not find it in your own house, you will find it nowhere." This would point to love. You can find matter in your house, and yet if you can't find it, then you will still be able to find it outside your house. And yet if you can't find love in your own house, then you won't find it anywhere else. Because everywhere you go, even if people love you, and even if you try to love people back, it will not be the same as loving people in your own house, because only them knows what you are really like deep inside... if you have a good family and parents, that is. "No one can live without it; everyone has used it." A mother will always love their child, no matter what. Even if you are aborted, a mother "should" have felt love for you and despair that she cannot have you. You won't be able to live without it, because if that was the case, then your mother wouldn't have gone to suffer and went through all the labour just to give birth to you and then not love you, right? The sacrifice of peace and no pain of the mother itself is love for you already. Everyone is born through their mother's pain and labour. Who would go through something like that for someone that you don't want and love? "The poor usually possess more of it than the rich" This doesn't have to be explained, I believe. The poor has nothing to treasure but love and bonds between themselves, the rich usually hoard all the gold and ignore everyone else. Steorotypically speaking, that is. "Children play with it in the streets" Remember the times where we played Mother and Father and Family? And Girlfriend and Boyfriend and all that? Hugging your mother's shirt or holding tightly on your Father as you rode on the streets above everyone else on the shoulders? That is what I mean. "The meek and uneducated esteem it highly, but the privileged and learned often throw it away." Again, same thing. The meek and uneducated won't have any self-esteem but for the love they recieve. The privileged and learned don't need that, they've got their skills and books and all that certificates and stuff. "When rejected, it lies dormant in the bowels of the earth." You know Mother Nature? That is what it means. When it is rejected, the love goes that into the ground. Mother Nature. We are nurtured by Mother Nature, it is what makes us possible. So therefore, if we do not give the Love that mother nature gave us, it will eventually be lost back into the "bowels of the earth". Last one: " It is the only thing from which the Philosopher's Stone can be prepared, and without it, no noble metal can ever be created." All craftsmen use love to make their artworks, and so does an alchemist. Without love, they won't have the time and patience to put their efforts into their works, and therefore, no art will ever be created, and therefore, no Philosopher's stone will ever be created as well... So, how is that? My deduction, of course...
  23. Hmm... I set it up with Mac Mail before, but it doesn't seem to be working right now... I'll download Thunderbird and try it... but by the way, I already made the emails in my cPanel... does that make a difference on Google Apps? Also, the limit on my mail is 250 mb, but on google it is at least one GB, if I remember. So, am I meant to delete the emails in my cPanel and re create them in Google Apps again? And what am I meant to put in the "servers" area? It doesn't seem to work now on Mac Mail, and I'm pretty sure I'll need the info for Thunderbird. Thanks for giving me the Mac version of it though. I appreciate that... Also... I know, it is pretty pointless. But the point is that well, I just don't like logging out and logging in to check my different emails again, and I always forget to check my email if this is the case, and I want to avoid Spam as much as possible. I know that I won't get spam (but chainmail, yes) if I give my email out by hand, but if I am to put the email address on my website, it will then be easily accessed by everyone and anyone that comes across my personal website, and I will be likely to receive spam. Plus, I want to people I know in real life to feel "privileged" to be able to use another special email instead of the other one. So I'll need to different email addresses, and yet one account to view them all (so that I can see them without logging out or logging in), and also able to view them separately. Is this possible on Google, if it is possible on Thunderbird? ...and thanks, I'll use my personal email as my administrator email. Thunderbird's downloaded now. I see a Gmail option. Am I meant to use that? Sorry for the many questions... @FouGilang: I don't think you understand, but I'm not setting things up on mobile, but on Google Apps. And my mobile phone's pretty old anyway, it can't even use bluetooth, let alone the internet.
  24. Yes... like rvalkass said, there should be no problem in linking the domain name with your hosting plan... make sure that the two servers are pointed to Xisto - Web Hosting and Xisto - Web Hosting though (I think it is 1 and 2, though I'm not sure. Anyway, it's the default servers, so you just have to not change them. If you have, contact support and they will change it back for you).I'm not sure if this is the problem (assuming that you did what rvalkass told you to do), but if you ticked the option of letting Xisto - Web Hosting park your domain for free, then it might be a problem because your domain will now then be already in use. Contact support if this is the case and they should help you out. Basically, the general rule is this... if something is wrong, contact support.
  25. Hiya, people, this is another thread that I need answered... but I think it will be (sorry about this) longer than my other email suggestions thread. So I have a personal site that is now called myrealname.com*** So... what am I meant to put in it? I want to have a blog, but I don't know if it will do as well in SEO if it is in a subdomain like blog.myrealname.com. And I also want to have static pages for my introduction or whatever... does anyone have any suggestions? Also, because I want to contact my family, I also want to have a personal blog that only they can access to. So I will need a permission views thing set up, so that only people that have the username and password will be able to access to my personal blog on my personal site. Any ideas how to set it up? I'm searching my head for ideas but I don't know... I might put some of my artworks and photography on it, but I have at most, 5GBs of diskspace and 50GBs bandwidth if I post 50 posts on my hosting company's forum per month (which is easy, I just have to post one liners), and I currently have 1 GB diskspace and 10 GB bandwidth, and I don't know if that is enough for a photoblog (not regularly, just occasionally). What will you put if you had a website called myrealname.com??? And it's all yours? What do people usually put? Anyway... I'm just here for suggestions, so just hit me with anything. Literally. I won't mind if it's a bit silly. Any ideas will be accepted!!!
