OK... well, I don't really know what to call it other than blog though... If I am meant to call it something else, then shouldn't I be buying another domain name? Huh???) The main site will have all my creative projects like photographs, web design and all that, and then my blog will be about philosophical science... so they are not really related... And can you explain the difference between a directory and a sub domain? Aren't they the same? And I also don't understand about the more "juice" bit either. You point the sub domain to the directory... I think... And I really don't know what to call my site apart from "blog..."... Hmm... well, I have decided to work on the blog already... the only thing is getting traffic to my site and whether I should: 1) Buy another domain for it... but then my main site will then lack a blog... 2) Use a page like example.com/blog 3) Use a sub domain like blog.example.com.
-
Haha, I'd thought it would work... but that was in theory though... but I'm glad I was able to help you. Yeah well, I didn't think it would be able to work at the time of writing this, but I guess I was so totally dead wrong in the end anyway... but anyway...Haha, you should put your website on the showcase when you are done with it. I'd like to see that you have been working on for so long... But anyway, I'm glad that I was able to help you again... it feels nice able to help people here on Xisto.

Haha, thanks for your replies, guys... Yeah well, I want to start this blog as soon as possible, but I still need to figure out how to make my blog on a page and not on the main domain... like so: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/... I don't even know if I should buy another domain just for my blog... but hmm... yeah, you're all right. I should start my blog as fast as I can. But FouGilang, just to tell you... Haha, my problem is the opposite of yours. The thing is that I couldn't find one single blog with the same content as what I had in mind (the same thing occured when I was thinking of starting a psychic phenomenan site) so I was scared that no one will read it. But then, I mean, if I am the first, then who knows? I'll be the starter and the creator of my type of philosophical blogs... YES!!!As long as I get visitors, that is, but I am sure that I will at least get Baniboy and Anwii there for some comments... :)It's just the domain name and the SEO of the blog now, I think. I mean, if my blog is on my main domain, then lots of people will go there, but not as much if my blog is on a page (example.com/blog) , and apparently less if it is on a subdomain (blog.example.com), though I don't know why about that. ARGH!!! But currently, I believe that the main plan is the put it on a page (example.com/blog)What do you all think about that?

YES!!! I found the thread!!! Finally!!! I was actually looking for it a few days ago... but anyway... Haha, well... I'd like to bring in a rival for mahesh2k (sorry about that!) for the most helpful member on Xisto for 2010. And that would be inverse_bloom... the amount of detail that he goes into my template for a more better visual look and all that should not go unmentioned... and the length of his PMs are so long they would count (for each post) for more than 10 of his average posts on Xisto... Which makes me feel so guilty. Haha, I hope you have no trouble keeping up with this, The Dark Hacker... I look forward to see the results soon...
-
Hiya people... I'm in a bit of a dilemma right now. I am making a blog for my website, and inverse_bloom is very helpfully helping me to give me some design tips, so everything is going fine, in terms of website building. But the problem is the content, not the structure. The thing is, most of the blogs that I have seen on the internet are business blogs, and blogs about technology, how to make money online and their lives... But I want to make a philosophical blog, and all the blogs that I have seen about philosophy, science and psychology and all that isn't what I have in mind. Therefore, I won't be able to create good comments on their blogs, because it really won't be related. The good thing that it will be unique content. So I am not really sure if I am going to get any traffic at all or get some loyal readers... plus, there is also the problem of running out of ideas. Things like that never have ideas flowing in all the time. Unlike technology blogs, you cannot just post the latest content and the latest news... So... I am asking you people... what should I do? Also, there is also the problem of the scope of my blog... it is not exactly philosophical, it also intergrates science into it, and I might write a short story or two sometimes on life and death matters and I don't know whether I should put that in too, or not... Therefore, I am asking for your advice... thanks...
-
Ewwwww.... the way that you put this is just totally disgusting, in my personal opinion... I suppose you are right though, but I really think that you should do something like that at least once in your life. Rejoice your primal heritage and the feeling of naked-ness!!! Haha, just joking. But I mean, if you absolutely love the feeling of the sheets and blankets on your naked skin, like face, arms, legs, and whatever, imagine if you have completely have a total of 100% access to the sheets and blankets. The feeling would be cool, smooth and just very nice over all. I'd like to try it someday, (and of course, maybe wash the sheets after wards, because the excrement of the body will be more easily absorbed by the sheets and blankets and whatever), when I'm alone in my house or something like that... Which is highly unlikely, but still... :D

Well, I really can't say anything about the "flash website" bit, because I really can't do anything about that as I am not an expert in that area, but if you want no fuss, fast results, and easy editing, and all that, I suggest you to base your site on a secure Content Management System (CMS) and use that instead. You can use CMSs like Drupal and Joomla!, where there are already modules made for you and you will just have to intergrate that into your website... it's really easy, I swear. You won't even need to touch any code at all, but maybe just to change some colours and some settings if you feel like it. But if you want ot make your whole site by yourself, well, then, you can still download the modules and plug-ins from Drupal and Joomla! CMSs, look at the code and see what you can do with it. You can use that as a base to start your coding from scratch, or you can just edit the existing code to whatever you want... either way, I believe that if you want to created any kind of function related thing, download the need modules and learn from them. Another thing that you might want to do is the learn PHP... PHP is a very good coding language if you want to make modules like those... it is rather interactive and it is a very good coding language to learn. You will also need to have some basic coding language knowledge on PHP if you want to edit the modules as well... You can borrow some books off your local library to learn how to code in PHP and experiment in your text editer (Notepad in Windows and TextEdit in Macintosh computers) or you can also learn it off the web. I learnt PHP that way, though I only know the basics and I can't really code yet. A good website to learn PHP would be this : http://www.w3schools.com/. Good LUCK!!! If you have any more questions, feel free to post them up here on Xisto. There are many good coders here in Xisto that may be able to help you with any of your problems should you have any difficulty in coding your site.

Haha, I suppose it would be true though. But well, if all my posts disappeared, and all my myCENTS and credits remained intacted, I would be extremely happy though. Because that means that I can repost content (incase I ever run out of ideas), and still get credits and myCENTS for them... But if my myCENTS and credits (USD) were lost as well... well, I would be pretty sad, because of all the time I spent into it, especially in the first few months, where I was practically sleeping in front of my computer trying so hard to make one more post at least... I ended up sleeping so later every night and not doing well at school... and it really won't be worth it if all my myCENTS and credits disappeared... :D But I believe that Xisto won't shut down until the very very far future, maybe at the end of the world or something like that... end of the universe, maybe, but I believe that I can safely assume that in my lifetime, Xisto will be open and will still be running until I die... well, I hope so. (P.S. And hopefully by that time Xisto will have a better forum template too!!! )
-
Hey, nice!!! Did you really do all those logo's yourself? They're really good!!! I'd like to learn how to do something like that someday too... Haha, and you're pretty right when you said that Xisto is a very unique forum... this is because Xisto is the only webserver hosting company that I know of to give unlimited hosting packages for free, as well as a free domain name. But you will have to post for that though... But I am not really sure whether you are here for the free services or what... but anyway, it is a tradition (kinda) to tell people what to do if they want these free services... so yeah... bear with me for a moment if you don't really want to use Xisto's free hosting and domain packages... though I don't see why anyone won't use this chance to earn a few extra bucks. Of course, you can't use it for anything else but for hosting though, sorry. Haha, I'll keep this simple though, no worries: 1) Signup at Xisto's Support and Billing System, so you can have your own Client Area with the same email that you have used here when you signed up here. 2) Post at least five posts, though more if you feel like it. :D 3) Wait for a few hours... your myCENTS should be up by then. 4) When you myCENTS thing is up (down under your name), you can start earning myCENTS to host your website, if you ever decide to get one!!!! You will be able to see a myCENTS thing under your name on the forums of Xisto if you are successful. I don't know... even if you aren't looking for free web hosting sites, I think it is quite satisfiying seeing numbers go up, especially numbers that represent real money (US dollars in this case), so I strongly suggest that you sign up to Xisto. Haha, Good luck!!!
-
Heya, tiasmith123... You should've created a new thread for your own introduction thread. I would have missed this one but for your name. It's new here and I haven't seen it before... But anyway, I'm glad that you are part of this forum too.. But anyway, welcome to Xisto!!! You know that Xisto is a free webhosting site, right? Yes.... that means that you can host a free website and a free domain name (top-level - Xisto is a domain registrar too. ) You will first need to go and register in the Xisto's Billing and Support Centre. Go to the "Client Area" to sign up. Just remember to sign up with the same email as you have here to provide a link between the two accounts. After that, post at least five posts, and after a few hours of waiting you should see a red and bold myCENTS thingy under your name, and then you can start earning!!! Just remember to don't spam or copy and paste other things and texts from the internet without quoting and you'll be fine. Good luck!!! Remember: 200 myCENTS can earn you one month's worth of hosting and you can earn that much in a few hours!!! WEll, for me, anyway.

I know right? Here in my country, there are so many people that are actually first generation there and so on, and they don't even know how to speak their own language in their ancestry, like the languages that their parents know how to speak, so therefore, while they look like they should know another language, like Chinese, Mandarin (and other dialects like Cantonese), Hindu, French, German, Spanish, they don't, and they only know the English language. I find this really sad, because most of them not only don't know how to speak or write or understand their language, they also don't want to learn it. It is like shunning their own heritage... Even for those that do know how to understand their own language, they often miss a vital skill, like speaking or writing, and even if they can do both, they don't do it really good at all, and often have a very strong accent when they speak their own home heritage language. The parents though, have to give priority to their children, and the parents, instead of their children, have to learn english to communicate with their own children. This creates communication problems, because obviously, a language learned as an adult is harder to grasp than a child learning a new language... don't you think??? And so obviously, the children won't have respect or listen to the advice that their parents give, and so they become more and more rebillious and so on and so on... So sad... But it's not like I can (or we can) do anything about it, due to globalization, many languages will be going extinct sooner and sooner. In the end, the main languages might only be English and Chinese or something like that, due to the internet using English, and the big population of the Chinese people...

I Have More Earned Money Then Credited?
Nameless_ replied to kittycatlover763's topic in Web Hosting Support
What? Are you saying that the green coloured "Earned:" under your name is one dollar less than the one you have in your Xisto's Billing and Support Centre? That is so wierd!!! For, the only time there is a difference is when my myCENTS is in the update[xx.xx] red mode, and that is when the difference is a few dollars (depending on how much I earned), and it is ALWAYS, the Xisto's Billing and Support Centre having MORE than the green "Earned:" that you see in Xisto forums...I believe that this is because the Xisto forums takes more time to be updated than the actual Xisto's Billing and Support Centre. But I like it this way, because I know that my money's safe in the Xisto's Billing and Support Centre while Xisto's myCENTS are still updating. But anyway... I really don't know what happened to you though... I really don't. There might be a bug or something, or your myCENTS might have gotten "lost" somewhere. Or maybe like mahesh2k said, you might have changed your email address sometime and it got "lost" there. If you're really worried though, ask support for an explanation. They should help you a lot. :D Good luck!!! -
My Audition Online Website =] Wanna rate?
Nameless_ replied to FouGilang's topic in Websites and Web Designing
Is your webhosting provider company a free webhosting company? Because if it isn't, I don't see why you cannot mover here at Xisto or find another international free webhost that will provide your website to people worldwide without any lagging or any problems... But anyway, I think it's is just up to you though. I know that moving webhosts can be a pain, but I really don't understand why you don't try it out. It might all work out in the end and you will find that it is worth all the trouble in teh end as well...But anyway, all the best to you!!! -
The main problem is that because my web hosting company is a free hosting company, their cPanel isn't a premier one, so therefore, I cannot enter two different MX entries with the same priority. Because it I do that, it will CHANGE the MX entry with the same priority that i have previously entered instead of adding a new one. It turns out that I am not the only ones with this problem... there are many more that has the same problem as me. And one of the ways of solving it is to change them so that the top one has the smallest number as their priority and the last one as the biggest number as their priority. For me, I followed siteground's advice and entered (1,2,3,4,5,6,7), but apparently if you entered (10,20,30,40,50,60,70) it will work as well... as long as the numbers are increasing as you go down the list... because my cPanel doesn't allow priorities like this (10,20,20,30,30,30,30)... But anyway, I do hope it works... if it doesn't... well then. :(***

Heya... it seems like I joined a bit too late at the welcoming party, but anyway... better late than never, right? It's good to see that you already have your myCENTS... now all you will have to do is to post, post, and post lots!!! And by that, I mean LONG posts, not the number of posts, because the longer your posts, the more myCENTS you have, and as Xisto goes for high quality and long length posts, you will earn much more like that in the long term, I swear...Anyway, I hope that you will settle in quickly and get a website of your own... if you ever need help, you can ask me (though I'm pretty new to all this myself) and to other more advanced members of this forum... they are really helpful and I'm sure that they won't mind if you asked them for some advice or for some help... CHEERS!!!
-
Yes... templehost... I was rather shocked at the number of negative myCENTS that you have had too... that accounts to more than $11 USD... but anyway. I'm sure if you post original content that only you have written on Xisto, then it will be OK. I am pretty sure that someone said that if you post it on Xisto first, and then post it on your website, it will be okay too, though I am not really sure about that. But anyway, it's really easy. Just reply to our threads, have a chat or two, ask some questions and learn some webhosting stuff and maybe solve a problem or two in your webhosting and you will already have lots of myCENTS....But good luck and stay away from re posting your own content!!!
-
Hijiacking my thread? Haha, no worries, I don't mind. I'll have the same problem as you anyway once my MX entries are updated... I don't even know if they are recorded right, because I couldn't use Google's instructions, so I had to do things alternatively instead. I just hope that it will update CORRECTLY this time, and quickly too, because I need my email urgently. It's like a matter of life and death for me, because if I can't use it, then I might not be able to get the job that I want for the rest of my life... And then I will be a very sad, sad person because I only have that dream in my life. So please... if google loves to help me, PLEASE update quickly and say that I did it correctly. I need the email now... :D The CNAMe can come later, as long as I am allowed to send emails out and receive them I will be so happy.
-
Yes, I have done everything... I have registered for an administrator account, set up the verification file successfully, so google now knows that the domain is mind. The only problem was with my MX entries, where the MX entries of the same priorities were deleted because my host didn't support multiple entries with the same priority, but I have followed siteground.com's advice and changed my priorities from 1 to 7. Hopefully it will work now, I'm just waiting for google to update and say that I can proceed... :)But anyway, thanks for the advice. After this, I will be able to use my mail!!! But I'll have to do the CNAME as well though.
-
Thanks guys, I have tried to activate my email on Google Apps... but I have (again) met up with the problem monster and another problem occurred (again. ) Here is another quick question for you people (sorry!!!): Google requires you to change your MX entries so that Google can become the main server for your mail hosting. I have read all of the instructions, and did as they said. Unfortunately, it seems like my cPanel doesn't let me add MX entries with the same priority number, and hence after I inserted all of my MX entries, I ended up with three, all of which is the last MX entry that I have inserted with the same priority. That is, this is what Google wanted me to put into my cPanel: This is what I ended up with instead: Also, it is noted that MX entries are meant to have a dot at the end of the domain name. But my cPanel doesn't seem to allow that, so I could only take away the dot at the end, as shown above in the quote. Is that OK? But anyway, how can I put extra MX entries for my google apps mail with the same priority. Thanks... this is pretty long... I believe that you are meant to make a CNAME for this one. I am not really sure what a CNAME is though, but from all the information that I have researched online, I believe it is similar to a subdomain, except when it redirects it to your google apps page, it keeps your URL, and hence you will be able to access Google Apps from your domain (mail.yourdomain.com). About HOW to make a CNAME for that though... I think that you will have to contact Xisto (if that is your domain registrar) to get it done. Or somewhere in one of the tutorials that I have read you are allowed to create one for yourself, so I'm not sure about that one as well... I'll need to learn how to create a CNAME after I get the MX entries done.
-
I don't know what happened... but I made a thread on this and it seems to have been "moved or deleted". Anyway, it isn't accessible now, so no one can read it. I have a quick question to ask: Quick Question: What will happen to my email that is hosted on Google Apps if I changed hosting accounts with the same host? Do I have to configure everything again or can I just change it? Thanks for your advice... I hope someone reads that and replies to my thread. I kept it nice and simple for understanding...

MyCENTS are NOT given to you by post count, and therefore, it is not 1 cent per post. The myCENTS system is based on the length of your post and the number of characters in it. This myCENTS were given out one cent per post, then everyone would be posting one liners like crazy instead, and therefore, the administrators of this site, Xisto, has made it so that we would post quality posts instead. SO the number of characters that you have in a post all counts towards your myCENTS. The longer your post, the more myCENTS you get. To buy a web hosting account (the minimum requirements of getting a website at Xisto), you have to have at least 200 myCENTS (2 USD). You will have to log into your Xisto's Billing and Support Client Area (where you registered to get your myCENTS) and then order there. I recommend you to buy your domain name and your web hosting package separately, because it will save your 200 myCENTS (2 USD) and therefore one month's worth of Logic Plan hosting. SO... do you understand? I'm not really all that good at explaining, but if you already have earned more than one dollar (100 myCENTS), you should be able to see it in your support and billing account. And then once you have reached two dollars, you can then buy the most simple place (Logic Plan with 20mb space) for a month. After that, you will automatically be billed two dollars a month for your hosting until you either stop the package or upgrade to a better one. (This doesn't include your domain name registration though. You will need an extra 10USD to buy it for one year, and it is different from buying a web hosting package. You can host a website with a web hosting package, but not with a domain name. I hope that you got this message clearly). Cheers... if you have anymore questions or clarify what I have just said, feel free to ask me.

Banner Request Vertical Banner for web page
Nameless_ replied to .:Piper_2051:.'s topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Wow... soviet Rathe... great worK!!! I think I just came here "a tad bit" too late though... I was about to offer to help make the signature and a banner when I realised that it had been already done... But anyway, I really don't think that I can make anything like what Soviet Rathe has done anyway... Good work!!! I reckon you should post a tutorial or something like that on it to show us what you did for the ribbon thing. That's really good, I think. :DAt piper_2051: Why are you using piper2051.webs.com? If you know the existence of Xisto, should you go and buy yourself a good domain name instead? like, piper2051.com? -
Haha, thank you for your explaination, anwii... I understand everything now. But everything is working fine now, and I don't think I should use Fantastico... this is the reason: I don't think I can install Drupal via Fantastico. There are a lot of errors in it's script. I'll post it here if you want it below...Hmm... I didn't know anything about second levels and all that, and I just want to thank you for pointing that out for me. I didn't even know that "installing things from the first level is even possible with drupal, but know that you explained everything to me, well, with misunderstandings, of course, in the end I realised what I have done wrong, and corrected myself... thanks for putting me on the right track (again... for the somethingth time, I have even lost count myself... ). Yeah well... the domain name is my name, so the key word will probably be my name as well... It's just a personal site, with no big goals... the only big goals that I have is maybe from my public blog on my site (the one about philosophy and all that), but I don't even know if I should buy a new domain name for that or just use http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ instead... Oh well, I'll think of that after I get my site done first, I think... :-/This is the list of errors on the page that I received when I went into Fantastico. I didn't want to use it incase something wrong happen (after all that trouble of getting it installed manually!!! ) But anyway, here they are... : Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 97Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 98 Control Panel Fantastico Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico//includes/enc_functions.php on line 2142Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico//includes/enc_functions.php on line 2142Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /usr/local/cpanel/3rdparty/fantastico//includes/enc_functions.php on line 2142Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 596Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 601Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 606Warning: fopen(/home/nameless/.fantasticodata/soholaunch.cache) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 524Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 867Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 868Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 869Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 870Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 871Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 872Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /tmp/cpanel_phpengine.1257969575.26067_agrKF3H5I on line 873

Hiya amyk, so... I believe that you are here at Xisto with a purpose of creating a website that is similar to Google's Orkut? Unfortunately, I am hopeless (unlike you) at j2se, j2ee, and javascript... and I don't even know what the former two are... but anyway, I'll leave that to the more expert members of this forum, and I will continue to learn these languages myself... So, what are YOU doing here if you're not helping me with my orkut website?, you might ask... Well, I just thought that I might help you settle in into Xisto, as there aren't any replies for your thread yet... Anyway, even though I know that you are here for advice on making your Orkut site, I don't really know whether you understand that Xisto is both a free webhosting company as well as a free domain registrar. All you have to do though, is to post in return on Xisto... it's pretty easy! All you have to do is to earn myCENTS from the posts that you make... Firstly, you quickly make at least 5 posts... And then you will have to register at Xisto Corporation's Support and Billing Centre CLIENT AREA here... now, make sure that you have put in the exact same email address when you registered at Xisto forums (here where I am typing now), and then you're done... Wait for a few hours you should be able to see your myCENTS pop out from under your name!!! Simple, right? I'm sure that you will be able to earn a month's hosting in one day, and maybe a top-level domain name in a week or so, depending on your posting frequency and length of posts... 200 myCENTS equal to two US dollars, and you will be able to see it in your Client area at Xisto Coporations' Support and Billing Centre... Here are a few important links that you might need as well... Xisto Read Me Forum Rules Credit System V3.0 Online The Xisto Story So, if you are interested in hosting your domain name AND your website at Xisto, then this is the best place to go!!! Good luck with everything!!! You'll have to ask someone else for the Orkut questions though, sorry. This isn't a field where I am good in... But I'm learning from this forum, and I hope you will too.

It's not the default one, but it is one of Drupal's templates. But I've still got a lot to do before I can fully start posting and all that... because this isn't meant to be a blogging place. Maybe a little on updates and things, but I still need to create a http://myDomain.com/blog page that has the same template as my current page, but reversed: so the background will be white and the header will be dark. I still don't know how to do that only to a blogging page yet, so I still have to do that... And haha, yeah, I'm very interested in the human mind... Haha... there is a problem with my Fantastical, I believe. Lots of errors with lines and all that. And yes, that is my real name.... I'm thinking of writing there after I set up my blog properly... I might have a mini blog on the front page, and maybe that might a little about myself. I still don't know what I am going to do with the front page yet, but my public blog will be about philosophy and all that, so I don't think there will be time to do explain and introduce myself... Anyway, I'll make an about page first. I need to recollect my thoughts and think of what I will blog about on my front page...
