  1. It's good to get some members in your software group... but you'll have to clarify how we are going to start on it, what roles we'll play and everything else. Let's say that it is successful in the end. How are we going to promote it? How to be make people use it? How do we maintain it and make new versions? There are still many things to decide before you start... also, if this is going to work you will also have to get a domain name just for this software, get up hosting and everything else... and promote it, of course... Oh, and one request... can the smileys be like SMF's smileys? Thanks... sorry, I just like them so much better than the other kinds. That forum softwares looks very good, rather similar to Xisto, I must say, though I don't really like the fact that the sections spread across the whole entire browser (like Xisto again)... but anyway, I believe that this is a good way to learn the basics of a forum software as well... I'll download it and have a look at its components and start my forum studying... Thanks, jlhaslip.
  2. Really? Then that's great then. And I am assuming that your friend is also in this group? Then that is really good because there's an expert in this group. I mean, I'll be really happy if you agree to let me help... and learn on the way as well. I don't know, like check the scripts or something like that? How many people do you think you will need? And is this going to be an open source forum software like SMF and phpBB, or is this just a general small project thing that you are going to work on? In terms of making a software there are many things to think of as well. If this is going to be an Open source software, or even if it isn't and it is going to have to be brought by customers, if it is going to be used my the online community then you will have to update it every so often and get different versions like 1.1, 1.2 and work your way up. But if it is just a general project, then you will be able to take your time, work when you will, and do things slowly as well. Of course, as a group though, there will be some pressure and motivation, so the job will get done more quickly, and you can use every one's strengths to the advantage of the project. Just a thought.
  3. I agree with you, Taz. It is just sexist to think that, stereotypically, that only the mother or the father should cool for the whole house. In the depression, around 1914, because the females earn less than the males in a normal average family house, the females took the jobs of the males. And yet while the males don't have anything to do, the females still have to cook for the family, scrub the floors and take care of the children after a day of hard labourous work while the males did nothing but sit around all day...I just don't think that it is fair. In these modern times, we should be trying to mend this sexist gap and make women equal to men. After all, females did not "choose" to be females, did they? If the females work, and the males have nothing to do, then they should be the ones doing domestic housework and taking care of the children, cook for the family, scrub the floors, and etc and etc. Wash the clothes. Then this world would be more equal, and there won't be as much of a burden for the females to have everything on their shoulders...
  4. Full time moderators? I thought that that would mean they will have to be given an income for that. I mean, yes, while certain people go on Xisto for extensive long period of times in a day, I don't think that they will be able to mod for a proper working period of at least eight or seven hours non-stop. But it would be pretty good if the moderators get extra myCENTS for the job they do though. But I agree with anwii. There should be more moderators in Xisto to keep thins down and steady.
  5. Haha... they ARE pretty funny, I have to say... They make me laugh too... I wonder what I look like when I go on roller coasters. I'd probably be smiling to whole way though, I don't think I'll look like them. Still, I feel rather sorry for these people though. Imagine what they would do if they found out that their pictures were on the internet. Everyone would be laughing at them, at school, at work, and even in their family.Poor them. Poor People.
  6. Haha, thanks. I am currently working on it on my local webserver... because I am thinking of moving my domain to a new hosting account where my company is, and their hosting applications is currently down at the moment, so I am waiting for them to update before I move everything online and work from there. Currently it is going good at the moment.I haven't exactly worked on any of my "projects" yet, apart from website design, and that is not even personal, because we had to do it at school. I've got two websites that I want to put on though, and they are all made my Microsoft Frontpage 2003 at school. I'm proud to say that in one of them, my school sent it to a competition and I got a highly commended award, so I am definitely putting it up there. But I'll have to start taking photos and make some photoshopped graphics soon. I'm sure I'll finish some of them by the end of the year though. Pretty sure I'll finish it before the dead line. And I already have some ideas for my philosophical/psychological blog articles, so things are running fine at the moment. All thanks to the support that this forum have given to me, I must say.
  7. Hey, you can see your myCENTS now!!! I told you it would be quick... No need to worry about it. But just remember to post longer posts and you'll be fine. At least this post isn't a one liner. You're learning. :(No, I Haven't you ever built a forum software before, though I would like to help, but with my bad knowledge in php I wouldn't be much of a help. But if you let me tag along I will be willing to learn from you and from w3schools, in which I am intending of learning soon anyway after my site is up. I am not advance... but I know a little knowledge. If you want though, you can ask more advanced members like jlhaslip or truefusion or inverse_bloom to help you... they are rather advanced in making sites and I am sure that PHP should not be a problem for them... I would be interested in your progress for it. But why not ask your friend to help you? If he has made a forum software before, then he should have some knowledge about making forums... Go and ask him and you might learn a thing or two yet.
  8. Yeah, I agree... and certain members seem to be happy with the appearance of the Xisto forums and would like to leave them the way they are. This is because they believe that Xisto is already good enough, and that they are mostly people from the old template period where everything is white and blank and not as good looking as it is now. Even so, I believe that it would not do much harm to change the template a bit, because it is getting rather dull for me and I don't really like it. But I mean, look at the bugs in Xisto. We had two myCENTS break downs in a one month period.... They have a lot to do to keep everything steady and keep us from posting threads on myCENTS updates... I wish that they can just get rid of the myCENTS problem once and for all and work on other things like posting more at the forums... But of course, I don't think that that will ever happen. Still, it is a speculation that might happen. If only myCENTS problems were not that common and only happened once or twice when the forum updates to a newer software like Invision Power Board updates...
  9. Yeah. A good domain name has to be short enough to remember, easy to remember, and easy to type. And you never know... things like mySpace and Facebook were never intended to be popular, they were just meant to be for the creators and their friends, but now they're really popular. Things like that cannot be predicted... But I suggest you to remove you hyphens, as that is hard to type and easily remembered wrong as casualtech.com instead, in which all your targeted audience and will go to your competition instead. I mean, I don't seem to be able to go to casualtech.com, but searching it up on google, thecasualtechblog looks pretty OK to me too! And you wouldn't want your community to go to other people. I have sent in a list of domain names that you might be interested in, and I have checked for their availability. I don't know if the PM reached you though, so I'm posting here just to make sure. I'll send it to you again if you haven't received it. Most of them are short, but some are longer than causal-tech.com, but all of them don't have hyphens, which is good. It is said that the domain names doesn't have to be consisted of real words, so I have made most of them up, as long as they are easy to remember then they will be easy to go too. Websites like Reddit and Flickr don't have real words as their domain names too! But they are easy to remember and that is what makes them popular... I hope I helped you so far... but remember, name isn't king, but content is.
  10. Hmm... OK, thanks for your suggestions... Unfortunately I don't really know how to use Joomla as much as Drupal, so I will be sticking to Drupal instead. I don't know how to use the administrative section all that well... and it seems like you have to press the "close" button every time you open something new and that gets rather annoying after a while. (Yeah, I've been playing all of Wordpress, Joomla and Drupal and after shunning drupal for a while it just seems better to me... I don't really know how to use joomla but I believe that if I get into it I might know it better. But anyway.) And oh yeah, I've already have a template to work on. I just need to work on it. To anwii: Hmm... I already have a vague idea on what to put on my personal website. I am interested in science, psychology, photography, philosophy, spirituality (as most people know), website designs and art... and many more that is similar to that. And I will be trying in integrate all of that into one site. Do you think that is possible? Well, I don't know until I have tried, but I am still open to any ideas. I am thinking of getting a "Project" page, where I will art-based interests there, like web design and photography and photoshopped stuff on there, and on my blog I will be posting up things on psychology, philosophy and spirituality and how science can prove its existence. Anything related to the mind, that is. I am interested in neurology as well... and well, my personal blog can come after my public blog. The problem is that i want my blog to be white, and my main site to be dark grey (photographs look better with a dark grey background, it seems to me), and I don't know how to make them fit together. But anyways, what do you think of my idea? Do you think it will work?

    Taz Here

Haha, I agree. You are surely one of a kind, aren't you? I never ever seen an introduction like yours ever, ever since I landed my fingers onto Xisto. But anyway, posting like that, like what Piper_2051 said, wouldn't do. You would be wasting your post count, people here in Xisto will think that you are spamming (I mean, they look for at least a two liner post, and one liners and not really acceptable here), and you won't be earning enough myCENTS to host your website, if that is what you are looking for... Now that you know this, let me continue. Are you here to host a website? If so, you will have to earn myCENTS. To do so, register at Xisto's Billing and Support Client area here and remember to put in the exact same email address when you registered at Xisto forums , and then you're done... you will see your myCENTS pop out from under your name after a few hours of waiting. It is rather easy to earn a month's hosting in one day, and maybe a top-level domain name in a few more days, depending on your posting frequency and length of posts... Good luck posting!!! I swear, it'll take no time once you start posting... Oh yeah, and remember to read the rules and FAQ first before you break any rules or you might lose myCENTS... actually, the rules are simple. Just don't spam and don't copy and paste. At least two liners, please!!!
  12. Haha... I suppose I saw this thread a bit too late... I saw you asking what anyone thinks about this name on the Shoutbox and they kinda ignored you, so I replied like, half an hour later. Saying it sounds alright, but I didn't know what it was for until I saw this thread... It is OK, I suppose. I know a name is important, but if it is for your family and friends and for us Xisto members, the name "Casual Tech" would be good, for casual purposes. And even if your site somehow gets popular without you promoting it, then that means that it is successful enough to make it popular, and bu that time people won't be looking at the name but at the content, I suppose. Overall, I believe that the name reflects your purpose, and that is very important, because if you named it "beautiful Butterflies" then I don't think anyone would want to go there apart from people researching on butterflies, like biologists, and it sounds good, easy to remember, not too long... it's a good name in general, I suppose. Casual Tech. Nice.
  13. Haha, OK... thanks for the help though. I suppose it doesn't really matter as long as cron is working properly on my public site, but that has yet to come... I am not up to that stage yet. Anyhow, if cron is just for updating the latest version of Drupal, then I'm not that worried, as long as it is not neccessary and life threatening to my site if it isn't working properly, I should be able to survive...I don't think that I am the only one wrong with the cron job thing, I've seen other threads where Drupal on MAMP doesn't have a working cron job too... so I don't think that I am unique in this case... which is good. I doubt Alex will reply though. Wait... who's alex?
  14. Woohoo!!! Be patient guys, Xisto might sometimes have bugs, but that is only because it is a free service and there isn't enough people going around to fix bugs like this immediately. Be patient and your myCENTS will be updated!!! Xisto had been in worse times than these, and the myCENTS have always been given back to their rightful owners after a long wait...
  15. Haha, I suppose. I am just determined to finish this small project of mine. I get into a lot of different projects, but I never ever finish them, and I am nearly done, I think. Learning all about domain names and webservers... Unlike most people my age I don't go on Facebook or MSN or anything, and instead spend my time on projects like this. But of course, unless you finish it, it wouldn't count as one, so basically I just wasted all my time and I am determined to not do that this time. It's going on fairly well, I think. You know, talking about new categories, I would be voting for you as the "Best Web Designer Website Builder". I've been to your site a couple of times and I really like it. I'm mean, the design and all that, especially the use of grey.... I've been looking at different web designer's pages and yours stood out the most... I don't know if it is just me, but many web designer's pages are rather dull and look like an average website, like they took the template out of a free source and used that instead...
  16. Haha, I suppose you always give the best advice, don't you? I want thinking of making the whole site on my local webserver first before putting it up online, but I suppose you are right... Hmm... I still have to do everything again on my online site anyway, don't I? Anyway, I'll have to give it a few days more. I only started on my own personal site today on my local webserver, so I only found out the template that I am going to use today, and I still have to know what exactly I am going to put on my site and see if things work properly. I also have to see what modules I have to install and all that. Plus, there are a few more questions I need answered before I get my site up properly... But I promise you, anwii... I know that I've been trying to postpone this a long as possible, but I've got a time limit to follow and once I get everything done I will do as you say... Thanks for the advice though. I just need a bit more time...
  17. I'm not sure if this works, FouGilang, because I haven't tried it before, but you can test it on a free webhosting company and see if it works... try and order a free hosting account with your subdomain. So let's say if you made a sub domain in your main domain's cPanel, try and see if it works if you register a free new hosting account with that. If it doesn't work though, try and delete the subdomain and try again. I doubt that it would work though, because of the Domain Nameserver system, You'll have to see if you can point the Domain Nameserver of your sub domain and not your main domain and see if it works...I was thinking of telling you to use the same web hosting company to over come the nameserver problem, but I just realised that it wouldn't work because your hosting company is that on an Indonesian local webhosting company. Why don't you just move over to Xisto? It makes things much more easier.... :-/
  18. Oh really? I'm touched then... But anyway... I still can't believe that I have spent four months at Xisto and still haven't gotten my website online yet... and I've been distracted by so many things... like making money online, stacking myCENTS and so on and so on where I could've just started straightaway and gotten right into it. :-/ And even though I learnt lots of stuff I still have a long way to go... You know, I used to be like, argh, that's a crappy website. I bet I can do better than that. But I didn't know that there were lots things involved like setting up Filezilla and all that. And now I realise how bad I actually am. And plus, the design of a website can easily be cheated and made to look good by using other peoples templates... so... And I'm still working on it right now... But anyway... yeah, I believe that the reason why there are first timers for Xisto awards is because many people are new here and have only been here for a year or two. The older and more advanced members of this forum seem to have drifted away apart from some loyal members... I wonder why though. I don't see myself drifting away from Xisto in the near future, but who knows? Things might change... ...
  19. My cron file? Here it is: This is found in my cron.php file <?php// $Id: cron.php,v 1.36 2006/08/09 07:42:55 dries Exp $/** * @file * Handles incoming requests to fire off regularly-scheduled tasks (cron jobs). */include_once './includes/bootstrap.inc';drupal_bootstrap(DRUPAL_BOOTSTRAP_FULL);drupal_cron_run(); It looks rather short though. I don't whether the problem is because of it being hosted on a local MAMP webserver and not an online, real one, but anyway, it is said that if I click "run cron manually", then the error wouldn't show up. Of course, that means that I will have to do it myself, and since I don't even know what cron is and what it does, I wouldn't be able to do that myself. @anwii: For clarification, this is on a local webserver, not on a proper cPanel. @jlhaslip: what do you mean by have tabs between data? I'm new at coding, though I can make some certain very simple changes, like change the footer of a template, so I don't know what you mean.
  20. Hi people, sorry for taking up your time. This will be very short, I promise. I don't know if it is just me or anything, but after I downloaded Drupal onto my local MAMP webserver, the cron module thingy isn't really working... This is the error message received: In Administer: Cron has not run. Please visit the status report for more information. And in the status report... everything is working fine apart from this: I don't really know what has gone wrong... but, would someone explain what has gone wrong, and what is cron anyway? What does cron do? For more reference, however, I have followed c0mputerwhiz1's youtube tutorial in installing drupal onto my local webserver. This is the link here: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ Thanks for all the help, people.
  21. I didn't realise that you can double nominate someone. If this is the case, I would also like to nominate mahesh2k for the Trapper of the Year... I'm not sure if you can nominate mods of this one, but anyway... That's for helping me out in all problems that I have had ever since I came here as a newbie not knowing anything at all... But anyway, do you know what you should have a category for? A retarded and stupid questioner - Someone who nearly always posts and make new threads in the Questions and Queries section of Xisto, often posting very stupid questions and annoying the more expert and advanced members of Xisto with unnecessary long posts and not helping and making matters worse when trying to apologise. Always somehow seem to go into problems and dilemmas that a normal average newbie would be smart to avoid. Doesn't know the difference between A to Z in computing language. No guesses who that would be.
  22. Haha, you should've created a new thread for yourself. If it wasn't for kawai's name I wouldn't have gone back into it to see if kawai had any more problems with Xisto... but anyway, Welcome too, weberk! I'm sorry to say that your myCENTS haven't shown up yet. Have you registered at Xisto's Support and Billing Client Area yet? I'm sure you can find the link in the other into posts... but yeah. I'm a non-geeky person, but I'm trying to be a geeky person now, learning all about websites and stuff. The forum posts are basically analyzed by the number of characters that you put in a post. Apparently they are also determined by the popularity of a thread (though I wouldn't count on that), the length of a post and the grammar of a post, though these aren't determined to be real, and I really doubt that. But basically, if you don't use text talk, then you have many more characters in your posts, and therefore you will earn more myCENTS!!! But of course, don't SPAM or copy and paste from other websites... you can lose your myCENTS for that. And don't worry, it's pretty easy to earn myCENTS. I swear and I promise you. A doodle community? What's that? I believe that this site CAN host java, though I read somewhere that IRC chats are not allowed, but I think that Shoutboxes are allowed to, and I think that it does the same trick, if not even better. But anyway, if you don't need an IRC chat box on your site then you're fine. What's a doodle community again?
  23. Haha, no worries. I was able to log in after all and my problem was solved... apart from the fact that another problem came up... I couldn't find my domain in Xisto - Domains.com, so I don't think I'll be able to solve the CNAME problem after all. Because even if you don't need to add a CNAME record for verification, you still need to make one for the mail service... ah... well, but that's not related to this thread, is it? Anyhow, the problem seems to be solved for the moment, so everyone can now log in into Xisto - Support.
  24. Hmm... I understand why you would want to move a subdomain to Xisto now... because it will make things faster, and the reason why you won't be moving the whole entire site to Xisto is because you will need to post more to catch up with the myCENTS needed for the extra site, right? I really don't know how to help you then... bat as far as I know it is not possible. If this was the case, then people would be spreading their many subdomains among different servers all the time on free webhosting companies and make lots of accounts so that they will not need to pay for a paid hosting forum...The only thing I can think of is to use another webhosting company, but Xisto is the best free one as one can go... I mean, have you ever heard of hosting company giving you free unlimited hosting? I think not... :-( Sorry, I don't know how to help... you'll have to ask a proper expert for this. I'm stil new to everything, and haven't even gotten I site up yet.
  25. Yes... or else you wouldn't be able to access my site anyway, and google.com wouldn't have indexed it in the first place... I can't cancel and buy a new one... it's like domain.trap17.com. Once you get it, it is unriddable. (Nice word, by the way. I like it.) And since I've got a really bad domain name (my fault, I must've been drunk), I can't get rid of it and as a perfectionist it is like a permanent blotch of ink stain on a perfectly white piece of paper. In other words, it is like a black mark in my history. Haha, my host have a very low level of support. You can only get it through the forums, and they rarely reply... :-/
