You should use Server side Technologies such as PHP or client side such as Javascript to do that. In the beggining i was using KDE (it came with my Knoppix distro). It is really user friendly and it has some good software such as KDevelop that can only used with KDE (correct me if i am wrong). Lately i migrate to another distro which came with Gnome as default Desktop manager. I like it because it is lighter than KDE and i am still using it. I do not think that what you want to do it is possible. CSS is a style sheet for elements. An img tag it is itself an element and the src attributte has to be in the image tag inside of your XHTML code. Maybe you can use a div element and position your image as a background image for this element. This way by changing the style sheet you can change the image src.
