  1. If you want to cheat in a single player game that you purchased... Go for it. It is your game, and you can play with it however you want to. Whatever gives you enjoyment.On-Line cheating is a whole different ball game. YOu are then robbing other honest people of their enjoyment of the game. That moves into a question of ethics. It is just ethically wrong to cheat in order to give yourself an advantage over everyone else that is playing the game. However.. it is a problem that will continue to persist in our society. Some people just do not folloe the rules. This pertains to ALL aspects of life... people have cheated in order to gain an unfair advantage over other people in every way that you can imagine. The business world (Just look at Martha Stewart... or Enron). And even in sports..(Steroids....)
  2. I would strongly suggest that all of you look into a program called Acronis Trueimage. It has been a lifesaver for me. I rebuild my PC every month or so. Typically.. just to keep it running smoothly after installing and uninstalling software that I just want to play around with.Basically this program allows you to make an exact image of your hard disk drive, including all settings and software.I made a backup DVD of my system and now I can simply restore from that DVD to get my system back to normal.I Installed Windows, installed all of the software that I regularly use, set up my E-Mail and personal settings, created the image.. and that's it.Now.. whenever I rebuild my computer.. I just restore the image.. and all I have to do is run a couple of updates if any are available... and I am back up to speed in a matter of minutes.
  3. Actually... the two most common causes for the symptoms that you are describing are either bad Main RAM, or bad Video Card RAM.I would try to get my hands on a different video card... doesn't have to be anything fancy... just one that you know works fine. Replace your existing card and see if it boots.Next... if you have more than one RAM module in your system, try removing them one at a time and see if that cures the problem. One last thing to try is to find a jumper on your Motherboard labeled "Clear CMOS" there should be a set of three pins... with the jumper covering two of them. Power off the system and move the jumper to the opposite position. Leave the jumper in place for about 10 seconds... then move the jumper back to it's original position. This will reset the CMOS contents back to factory original settings.Keep in mind that once you do this... you will lose any changes that you have made to BIOS and you may need to make some adjustments. But it is worth a try to see if it cures the problem.
  4. Is it just me... or does something seem VERY wrong with that?
  5. Worst??? Well, I don't know if I could really classify most of my injuries as being worse than any other injury.Wehn I was about 8, I wrecked on my bike and cut my forarm open to the bone. Got stitched up and the next day wiped out again... fell on the same spot on my arm and tore it open again. Still bear the scar from that one.Let's see though. In high school I wrestled. That cause numerous injuries. Hyperextended (bent the wrong way) both knees (Had surgery on both of them), Broke my sternum, tore my diaphragm, bent my right thumb back until it touched my wrist (don't try that one at home.. had surgery for that too... nasty scar)Let's see.. I also rode motorcycles when I was younger, Dislocated shoulder, broken foot, broken collarbone.I also wrode horses a lot, bucked off a couple times, dislocated shoulder.I guess maybe the worst... or at least the scariest was, when I was in my early 20's... I was a lot cockier than I am now. Tended to get in fights alot. One night, me and a couple of buddies were driving around, and a car drove by us and yelled obscenities at us, and made some particularly rude gestures. So being cocky.. we chased them down to see what their problem was. When we all got out of the car it turned out that there were three of us... and 9 or 10 of them. (chasing them down wasn't seeming too smart by then).Well... one of them pulled a gun and held it to one of my friend's head.. my other "friend" ran away, and the rest of the guys came over to me... and the fight was on. I was getting hit and kicked from every direction.. fighting back as best as I could. I kept getting hit in the head alot.. so it was getting kind of blurry. When all of a sudden they all just stopped. They all just looked at me for a minute, got a scared look and then all ran back to their car and sped away.I of course being in my stupid younger years, felt like I had scared them off.Anyway, I just happened to glance down at my shirt.. which was supposed to be white... and instead it was a dark red. Took me a minute to figure out that I was bleeding badly. My friend told me that one of the guys had hit me in the back of the head with a meat cleaver. I guess he was aiming for my neck.. but I moved my head just in time, so it caught the back of my skull.Anyway.. it made a nasty, deep cut and left a mark on my skull. But it could have been a lot worse. A few stitches fixed me right up. I have a bad scar there, and a bump on the back of my head that will never go away. But all in all... pretty minor. Just scared me. I am not nearly so cocky anymore. I outgrew that pretty quickly.
  6. Perhaps just the opposite is true... Think about this one for instance.Let's say for example that I am a slightly psychotic person who has violent urges sometimes because my mother threw away my favorite toy when I was 5 years old. What if... instead of going on a murderous rampage through a high school in the midwest... I decide to play Grand Theft Auto instead and take all of my aggression out on computer generated characters instead of on real people, thus avoiding a disastrous bloodbath in the real world?
  7. I have been using VOIP for quite some time now. It has been working quite well.I went with VOIP for the simple reason of low cost long distance. The service itself costs me $19.95 a month, but I get unlimited local and long distance calls withing the United States and Canada. The company I use also has International plans for $49.95.This has saved me a fortue in Long Distance calls.Plus side of VOIP. - Low cost, free long distance, ability to use any standard telephone, ability to call to any standard land line telephone, ability to take your phone and phone num,ber anywhere that you go (as long as you have a good internet connection) , cutting edge technology which keeps improving over time, free features like call waiting, caller ID, voice mail, and so on.Down Side of VOIP - Still a few glitches (Occasionally get a lag in conversation) , Enhanced 911 services do not work (Regular 911 services do work), VOIP relies on a clean path through the Internet (We all know that occasionally routers go down and force internet trafick to take a longer route) , MUST have a broadband connection. The last point can not be stressed enough. A VOIP connection requires 56K of bandwidth both up and down. This is dedicated bandwidth, so dial-up connection just is not capable of handling it.I have a 3MB connection, so I have no trouble. You also can't use a "Peer to Peer" filesharing program while using the VOIP... Filesharing programs do wierd things to your bandwidth and cause what they call "Jitter" on you VOIP phone service. Meaning that you get broken conversations, and momentary drop-outs.All in all though... VOIP is very good. Still needs a little improvement, but that will come in time. VOIP technology is advancing in leaps and bounds very quickly. It will only get better over time. But don't give up your Standard Telephone line quite yet.
  8. I just wish I had half the artistic talent that you guys have. I have pretty much none.My sister got all the artistic talent in the family. I can fix anything, and I can learn anything... but that's about it. Oh yeah.... and I got all the looks too.
  9. Well... lets see... How does one choose from these two....Both are very well done. Good job to both of you. I am not really sure how to justify voting for one over the other.I personally am partial to the color blue... however, I really like what Johnny has done with the text.Well, I guess that calling a tie doesn't really benefit anyone... so I must choose one over the other.Very tough decision, but I guess I will vote for Johnny... simply because I like what has been done with the text.Coule have gone either way, seriously... if I voted again in a half an hour... my choice might be the other way around.
  10. Once again, I have to vote for Johnny... better color blending, easier on the eyes, easier to read.Score 2:0
  11. I would have to go with Johnny... smoother colors, easier to read, text stands out nicely.looks like score 2:0
  12. Very impressive... especially for FREEWARE.I have always been a fan of Simulators... and I look forward to playing around with this one.
  13. A few things to try.First... make sure that the Poer Outlet you are plugged into has power. Plug in a lamp or something just to verfy that there is power there.Physically remove the battery from the laptop, leave it out for about 30 seconds, and then put the battery back in, then plug in the charger again to see what happens.
  14. Absolutely... adding RAM will definately improve rendering speed.Other things you may consider are a processor upgrade, and a video card upgrade. Not sure if your system can support a processor upgrade or not.. but you might check the manual to find out. Also, if you are using the On-Board video card for the system... If the system has an AGP slot for a video card... Adding a newer higher powered video card would make a big difference.
  15. Just a curiosity issue for me. I know that a lot of you are very young (at least compared to me), so I imagine that some of the responses will be Pentium 3's or 4's.However, bringing back memories of older technology is entertaining for me. So if you started "Back in the Good Ol' Days" I'd like to hear what you started with. The first computer that I ever personally owned was a Timex-Sinclair 1000. It was a small thing that hooked upi to a television for a monitor. The base system came with 1K of memory. There was no such thing as a hard drive at the time. We stored programs on tape (basically a standard audio cassette. I also had this big module that plugged into the back to increase my memory to 16K.The graphics were pitiful by todays standards, but not bad for the time. I was able to play Frogger and a lot of Text Adventures. I also used it to learn programming in BASIC and Pascal.
