  1. Hi, I create a simple Expect script to automate my ftp login into my trap account. I made my ftp uploads running the ftp command in linux so i created this script to save me time in typing my Login and password. It logins for you and returns you the control. I hope it is useful for you guys. Remember just install expect and enjoy it: [br][/br]set host your_name.trap17.com[br]set Login your_name[/br]set Passwd your_password[br][/br]spawn ftp $host[br]expect "Name (*):"[/br]send "$Login\r"[br]expect "Password:"[/br]send "$Passwd\r"[br]expect {[/br] "ftp>" { interact }[br] "Login failed." { exit 1 }[/br] timeout { exit } }[br][/br]
  2. Yeap,How to create a forum comunity quickly?Offering them something they desire ---> Free hosting with Php, mysql, no banners ...I think it was a great idea of the Xisto's create in order to atract a lot of people to a site quickly.
  3. I think that the name is cool. I like that it does not have any host word. Most of us host our site with a name similar to: something.trap17.com and this way our visitors does not realize easily where we are hosted or if Xisto is even our own invention.
  4. Hi,I am almost new in Xisto. A friend told to me about the site because i was searching for a site with php and mysql support without additional banners. He told me that Xisto's only rule was to remain active in the forums. One day after, I was speaking with one work collegue about Xisto and he told me that in his opinion Xisto was not possible to be succesful. How can a site give free space and all the web technologies if gives everything for free. We were discussing if the money that Trap 17 can produce with the banners and paper per click publicity could be enought to pay for all the BW that it is supposed to give for free to all the users it hosts. How old is Xisto? Is Xisto already profitable for you admin or How long do you expect it would take to be?Do you expect Xisto a long life?I understood the idea of having regular visitors ("people active in forums") coming to the site everyday in order to support Xisto economically but don't you think that right now most of the forum topics are not interesting. I mean, most of them are votes which allow people (me too) to achieve the neccesary number of posts quickly. And almost all the topics about computer languages for example do not have right now almost any interesting discussion. Maybe is because the commununity is too young or maybe because forcing the people to be active can lead us to empty discussion if we do not take it seriously. But that it is only my opinion maybe i am wrong. I will try to give my best in order to make my posts interesting and not only for becoming hosting (that it is however the thing which brougth most of us here for the first time).

    Web Cam

Hi,I want to buy a Web Cam. I want a linux compatible one. Because i am going to use it primarly under Linux but also in Windows. I was thinking into buying a Logitech one, because i have always heard good things about Logiteck peripherals. But i have no idea about models, prices. Can you recommend me any model or any web page about Webcams?Which would you choose and how much does it cost? Thanks in advanced for your feedback.
  6. Hi, I went into the world of Digital cameras last year. I bought a Sony with 2 Megapixels camera with digital zoom (that is the worst thing about it). I am really happy with it and it satisfies all my necesities. Fun photos and photos for my web pages are all what i need. I want to recommend you a review cameras web site. In my opinion is the best out there and for sure you can obtain independent idea about the product before buying it. I bought my camera in Internet. For sure the cheapest possibility. The site is: dpreview I hope it is useful for you
  7. Hi, I am quite new in Xisto and i do not know if i am supposed to open new topics. If not please let me know. I am using normally Perl at work but now i need to use expect. Expect is a language that allows you to interact with prompts such telnet, ftp and staff like that. I have to interact with some consoles simultaneosly and send both of them commands. Expect uses tcl. I am really new with tcl. I need to open a file and read line by line in order to send those line to a console. Maybe anyone can help me with this basic operation. I think i have to use the exp_open command. In Perl would be something like this: [/br]open <INPUT>, FileName[br] or die "Can't open FileName for reading;[/br]while ( <INPUT> )[br]{[/br]print "$_"; #Operation with the line. I should make more complicated things;-)[br]}[/br]
  8. I have 160 Gig. I had 40(30 Linux, 10 Win) and now i bought extra 120 because i had too much Friends Seasons. :-)
  9. I use the xampp package because it brings the Sablotron module. What is Sablotron? Sablotron is the module which allows you to use the XSLT PHP functions. Basically with Sablotron module you will be able to perform XML transformation in an easy way and dynamically with PHP.

    Perl

Yeap, I also use Perl as a script language for UNIX admin. It is fantastic for string manipulation and you can automatize almost everything. I agree that in the begining reading regexp is not really an easy task :-). As a sever-side technology for Web-programming i use php.
  11. If you are really interested in learning C++ i will begin with a good book. I learned with a spanish one "Progamaci?n orientada a objectos con C++" Author "Fco. Javier Ceballos". But for sure there are plenty of good publications.
  12. I think that C++ is easier if you move into it after learning C. I did so and i did not find it too dificult. Maybe the most difficult part is to change the way of thinking from an structure programming to object oriented programming. In my opinion C++ is one of most powerful oriented object languages. I learned by using the software Visual Studio and Visual .Net. Moreover i use also gcc and i debug with gdb.
  13. I use Photoshop + Imageready. I think the combination is really amazing. However if you are looking for something free and simple maybe Gimp is your solution.
  14. Hi, I use Vim and also emacs. I really love vim. Give it an opportunty, it works in every platform and you can customize on your own feelings. If you are newby maybe you will feel more comfortable with gvim (The graphical version of vim).
  15. I use also v0.93 on both linux and Windows and i did not have any problem similar. Maybe if you explain it clearly we could give you a hand.
  16. I used mozilla mail and now thunderbird. I think they are really better than Outlook plus they work on linux.
  17. HI,I create my web sites to offer web-cross browsing. I mean, I want they to in almost every browser. So, i tried Opera, IE, Mozilla and Firefox. I love firefox the most, i use it on Windows and Linux and i think it really offers lots advantages against IE. It is more, more secure and it offers pop-up blocking, multiple-tabs .... and it is also really light. I light Opera too but i fell more comfortable with Firefox. Konqueror is also a really smoth browser. I think the problem is that a lot of people create Web sites that only works properly with IE. Unfortunateley there are a lot of Web sites that do not look good in any other Browser. I really hate those sites.
  18. Hi,I used AVG Anti-Virus. I was quite happy with it. Now i use mostly Linux but in my Windows partition i moved to a F-Prot. Free and incredible light anti-virus. With schedule plan, intenet updater....
