Hi mamer! It's usually considered a good practice to create your own thread in the Introductions forum so you will have a lot more people replying to you. I'm glad that you like this post-and-host forum. What other post-and-host forums have you tried? Xisto has been around for at least a decade; it was previously known as Xisto. With the number of web hosting services that have started and faded away into oblivion, you can be certain that Xisto isn't going away anytime soon - it is here to stay, and so will be the website that you create with it.What kind of a website do you have in mind once you get sufficient credits to order a web hosting package? If you ever need any help with putting together ideas, there are lots of folk on the forum that run websites for a living so they're probably the best folk to advise you on it.
  2. If you are looking for some unique names, you could think about the name Good Soup. Typically, when someone is ill, the western view of a home rememdy is a nice bowl of soup and lots of rest. In places where that home rememdy is unheard of, they would probably think that you're a company that makes instant soup, like Maggi and Knorr's, so it is probably not such a good idea. Then, there's Get Well, and the name is self-explanatory. It is a rather nice name because the message is conveyed through the brand name. Also, you could extend the company's service offerings to provide additional medical and healthcare related services - perhaps later if you want to hire some physicians and start up a clinic right next to the pharmacy, you could do that. Also, you can offer diagnostic services by collecting samples and having another pathology lab take care of the testing. Health Care is a rather simple name as well, and isn't used by any other firms as far as I know.
  3. Salaam 'alaykum!Good to have you join us here on the forum. Perhaps you can teach us a bit of Arabic. Do share with us some of the applications that you have developed. If you haven't already, try Moodle - it's a good learning management system and is available for free.I develop applications with PHP as well, and occasionally post to the PHP sub-forum with challenges that I encounter. There are others on the forum who run websites professionally, so if you want to know more about increasing your web presence, you'll definitely get a lot of help from the forums.Hope to see more posts by you in the near future.
  4. When we come across any intellectual works that are copyrighted, we come across the phrase All Rights Reserved right next to the statement of the copyright. If a work is copyrighted, does it not automatically mean that the rights to the use of the work are limited as provided by the author or the publisher? And if a work is created, does it not automatically mean that it is entitled to copyright protection?I would guess that some legal systems do not enforce copyrights unless they are explicitly stated or maybe they did not in the past, though all the legal systems that I am familiar with do enforce a copyright because of the understanding that pretty much every bit of work out there belongs to somebody so they either should be compensated for the use of their work, or they should explicitly state that they are willing to give away their work for free either under the specific terms of a license or by donating their work to public domain. In the past, copyright was not something that the common layman would have known about but today pretty much everybody has heard about piracy and copyright infringement so one cannot claim or feign a lack of awareness when accused of having illegally reproduced or distributed intellectual property.
  5. Yes, bad RAM can most definitely keep a computer system from starting up. What you can do is if you have extra RAM, you can try replacing the RAM in the computer system and starting it up. Sometimes, it may be the connection from the RAM to the motherboard rather than a problem with the RAM, so you can try removing and re-seating the RAM into its slot. You would imagine that with those locks that hold the RAM into place, it shouldn't move no matter how hard you shake it, but the reality remains that sometimes RAM does manage to get out of its slot for some weird reason. Maybe the gremlins are at work, or it could be sabotage by some international secret spy agencies. Nobody really knows.Anyway, I hope you have been able to get your computer working. If you did, sign up on Xisto and we would love to be able to have you here, sharing your experiences with your computer.
  6. The ability to have all Apple device working together with accessories was a great reason to buy Apple's devices but the new connector had me stick to the iPhone 4S, which shares its connector with the previous generations of phones. Many cars have the ability to connect an iPhone or iPod too, and mine does it with the provided cable to connect to a standard USB port. However, most music players included a dock and they will be getting obsolete. The lightning interface would likely have some kind of USB connector to hook up to a computer, right? Yes, that would be true but Apple charges $20 for one of those and it comes with a security chip for Apple to decide who gets to manufacture cables and accessories. That seems like one way to deal with counterfeit accessories. What will they think of next? A way to prevent the use of unauthorized iPhone cases? They might be on to something if they figured that one out considering how much people spend on cases these days. The rugged iphone cases are particularly expensive considering that they cost up to a fifth of the value of the phone, and the iphone insurance does not apply to accessories or cases. PS: Pardon any typos as Im posting this from my iPhone (4S - remember I mentioned earlier in the post that Im not switching to iPhone 5?). I disabled autocorrect to avoid more embarassing errors that we find posted all across the net.
  7. If you are familiar with the basics of PHP, you ought to look into the source code of a couple of open source projects. There are tons of open source projects out there for PHP, and a lot of the more recent ones are plugins for WordPress. Some plugins are rather simple and can fit on an A4 sized page whereas others can include folders and subfolders of a convoluted mess. I would suggest you look at some of the simpler plugins like the Google Analytics plugin because it does little other than provide a function with a configurable site identifier and a selection of which script to include. You can also look at some CodeIgniter scripts. FuelCMS is a popular content management system based on CodeIgniter and you can see the Model-View-Controller separation of the code for easier reading. If you are at all familiar with the MVC concept, then this is probably the project you want to reverse-engineer.
  8. By the end of the year, touch screens will be required for laptops to bear the ultrabooks moniker

  9. Trivandrum Buzz and Dolls of India have some classic examples of Chikan design. While the design was popular about two decade ago, right now it is seen as a fashion that has passed. It just seems a little too simple for the flashy fashionable embroidery today with crystals and other shiny confetti-like embroidery. The one embroidery design that still stands as popular today is embroidery done with a Jerri (golden) thread. There are many other different kinds of embroidery, such as the mirror-work where tiny round or diamond-shaped mirrors are 'stitched' into a cloth by means of creating a net or a web around a tiny ring, which acts like a frame to the mirror. I'm often surprised at how the threads hold a mirror that is smaller than the nail of a thumb into place without the mirrors falling off. Usually, the mirrors lose their reflective surface while washing but they do not actually fall off. It probably is an art or craftsmanship to stitch the mirrors in place so well.Chikan embroidery is perhaps less of a craft but more about persistence and patience, and as with everything that takes more human labor, it costs much more than regular printed patterns. The fine-ness of the embroidery is what decides the price though it would probably go unsold today, considering how it just isn't fashionable any more.

    Atos Health Care

For as long as the power to make decisions is classified into a black or white, there always will be cases that will be falsely denied. And with the system currently in place, you can only imagine what a topsy-turvy system that classifies into black and white can do. There are times when even doctors talk to patients and say, "We can find nothing wrong with you," even when a person is seriously ill, and when the person does die, the doctors claim that it was most likely of natural causes. There are some cases that cannot be proven, and the lack of evidence could either be because of an inability to procure the evidence or because of the expense involved in trying to present the evidence, so even if the case is the latter, the decision is made to indicate that there was no evidence. Many systems are formed in a rigid manner such that they do things that they have been doing all along, and that system was formed through a myopic view of how things should be run. In addition to that, if anything needs to be done that is not a part of the system, it takes a whole lot of effort, and people are not willing to put in the effort for something that gets them no additional reward when neither the work nor the values of the organization really matter to them. Think about it, most people are in it for the money, or they are truly over-worked and exhausted such that they cannot take on any more than they already have.
  11. I hear the Bhavan's College in Mumbai organizes a ceremony called the Ashirvachanam in which the students invoke the blessings of their elders and take an oath of respect for cultures, traditions, and values. It is perhaps one of the many events that helps Indians re-establish their cultures and traditions, and ideally what ought to go with it is a class on Indian cultures and traditions, for how can one recognize where one's roots come from if he or she has not been taught what they are. There are museums such as the salar jung museum, which houses the war history of India, bearing the armor and weapons that were used in Indian during battle. However, we ought to have a museum bearing items symbolic of the Indian way of life. It need not really be a museum, considering how hard it must be to find items of historical significance, but it could be possible to create an educational experience through wax or clay models, videos, and interactive learning experiences. Some Indian colleges, such as IIIT-H have a cultural club that helps people realise the many events that used to be celebrated over the year by previous generations, something that has been lost to the current generation and possible to the future generations too, unless something is done about it. Perhaps the educational system ought to take the next step by offering courses on cultural studies and creating employment for students majoring in liberal arts. After all, there needs to be some way to reinforce ethics in society and what better way than bringing back the culture and traditions of the past?
  12. If sunny California gets any hotter, it could start more forest fires, so if its colder, it is a nicer thing in the summers though the winters aren't getting any more bearable. I've been indoors through the summer heat that goes to a soaring 45 degrees celcius and although it seems rather hot and when you think just about nothing good can come out of it, it does help keep away pesky creepy crawlies because they cannot bear temperatures nearing 50 degrees celcius for more than a few hours. They are cold blooded, so they do not have any way to regulate their body temperatures so when it gets freezing outside, they get frozen but we do not, and when it gets extremely hot, they get cooked inside-out but we do not.Running out of hosting credits is one thing that gets people back to the forum, and that's probably something that can get easier when we can transfer hosting credits between accounts for bartering. Think of it as a market place. So, when you are on a vacation, you lend someone some credits, and when you are headed back, you can return them back... or maybe give something else in exchange.
  13. The worst cell phone that I have ever had is the imate Jasjar, also known as the HTC Universal. The USB charger stopped working within a couple of days of getting it. I didn't bother to go to get the warranty repairs before the taxi fare of going all the way and getting a replacement and heading back is worth more than the price of a USB charging adapter. By the end of the year, the battery wouldn't last as long as I would have hoped and it lasted much longer than it should have. Finally, when the year was up, the battery died too - it could barely stay turned on for more than five minutes. Right now, it will not run on battery at all and the boot-up sequence takes it into a loop... it powers up when connected to the charger, but then it doesn't get enough power so it abruptly powers off, then it tries to start up again. Other than the battery, it was rather nice. With a couple of extra buttons on the keypad, it would make a great way to connect to a Telnet or SSH session using Putty for PocketPC (that's an alliteration). What it needs is a Ctrl key and an Alt key (I think it has one of the two, but can distinctly remember that it had a Shift key like almost all smartphones). BTW, I used Remote Desktop on it too, which wasn't all that much usable but it was fun fun considering that the display was larger than most other phones and had a stylus to position the mouse cursor. The stylus interface also made it fun to draw something and send it across to somebody. Running Windows was a plus, but this was around the time of a new Visual Studio release when Microsoft decided to drop support for the older mobile operating system so I never really got to do much development with it.
  14. The Internet is a medium rather than a source. A source is something like the CNN news website, Wikipedia, a blog setup by the teenager next door, or the butcher's store website. When it comes to trusting the Internet, sure you can - you can transmit information securely in an encrypted manner such that all of the information that you send across will be transmitted in an unaltered manner. On the other hand, there are some sources such as Wikipedia that can be altered by just about anybody so if you did have an ulterior motive, you could alter a page to say that you are a better service provider than your competitor and if that went unnoticed by anyone maintaining the page, you would be reaping the benefits through increased sales. On the other hand, there are peer-reviewed journals that publish online and they are quite reputable. Then, there are articles through CNN, Reuters, BBC, Fox News, and others of the kind that are usually reliable, but not always so. When Ravi Shankar, a musician of Indian origin died, they displayed a picture of a totally different Ravi Shankar who is well-known for yoga. That exact same mistake was made by MTV. So, the next time you read something online and want to decide if it is reliable, check the source. Determine if it is something that comes from an authoritative source and if they have made any errors in the past. Last, but not the least, you should trust your judgment. If something is too good to be true, it probably isn't.
  15. rpg,You are right about cloud computing not being a cure-all. They are useful for video encoding, assuming that you have a fast enough connection to upload and download the video files in a reasonably short period of time. If the connection is too slow, you might as well just let your computer handle the encoding overnight. For work, many offices give employees access to terminal services such that they can continue to work from home without making a copy of their files. Some firms that hire virtual works follow the same practice.Nate,You are right about the cost of hardware. However, the flipside is the cost of software. With overpriced software on the rise, using hosted desktops is a great way to share software. I know of a couple of firms that use remote desktop to share database administration tools because they aren't used by developers all the time, and they can get away with installing it on just one computer and having the developers access that desktop when needed. Also, hosted desktops are great for experimentation. If you are checking out some software on the Internet, you would rather have a sandbox get infected with malware rather than your own computer.
  16. I'm familiar with the jali (net-like) chikan work, but I am unfamiliar with the flat and embossed chikan. Sofa cushion covers with the net-style designs were quite popular back in the day and I saw some in the not too distant past when I visited someone. The net-styling does make the fabric difficult to wash in a washing machine, which is probably why they are not as common these days. There are ways to deal with delicate fabrics, one of which is to have it in a net-style bag, similar to the filter in the washing machines and I've seen one of those net bags at Carrefour. The other approach involves running the washing machine till the spin cycle and just skipping the spin cycle in favor of a tumble dry on a clothes line. The use of tiny round mirrors and other shiny decorative bits is used in a similar manner to chikan decorations, with the exception that they have the decoration in place of a net-gap.PS: I wish they would not call it Chikankari because of the implications of consuming meat (if you don't get it, try pronouncing it aloud a couple of times).
  17. I think we ought to define certain criteria for when owning guns are okay and when they are not. If guns are brought into every society, it may lead to anarchy. Right now, if someone is upset at a political figure, he throws a shoe and we all know about that not-so-gentleman expressing his disagreement and if he had a gun, we would have lost former President Bush. Sure, many people don't like him but he's a part of the nation's history. Guns can be permitted in places where the government is unable to enforce law and order. This can be in the places with low population density or impoverished governments. There would likely be an increase in crime too, but at least the victims would have equal abilities as the perpetrators. I do not support guns though. Imagine what would have happened if they hadn't advocated nuclear disarmament. Getting everyone to buy guns is good for weapons manufacturers. No one else.
  18. I think it is something that they had to do because of economic conditions. Instead of going bankrupt, they probably decided to hike up their prices. If there is anything in the contract that prevents them from raising their prices or that enables you to reject their prices, they you can get a lawyer to get them to either provide service to you at the old prices, or to discontinue the contract because they tried to charge you more than what you deem reasonable for their service. There may have been a precedent that a lawyer can direct you to.
  19. I was a fan of Half Life 2 too, but I'm not sure if Valve was the developer or the publisher of the game. For folks out there running Linux, they are going to see a lot of new games available for Linux n 2013. Apparently, Valve will be getting Steam to run on Linux, and Blizzard will be introducing games for the Linux platform too.The reason why most developers and publishers did not target Linux was the small user base and the differences between distributions. The differences are not all that much when you think about it - other than the kernel and architecture differences, the differences are rather minimal because you can copy across libraries that are missing, and when you see that a large majority of distributions are based off other distributions, like the way Ubuntu is a Debian derivative and Linux Mint is based off Ubuntu, you can pretty much assume that everything that works on Debian will work on Ubuntu, everything that works on Ubuntu will work on Linux Mint, and everything that works on Linux Mint will work on Debia, with little effort apart from installing a couple of packages and libraries, which can even be bundled along with the game. When there are licensing restrictions, there are some software packages that download the third party components off the Internet so they are not bound to the licensing conditions for distribution of the third party software, so that's something that the developers and publishers can consider too.
  20. If you are looking at starting the website, you may want to sign up on this site to get a web hosting package and a domain name. Depending on how you want to organize your site, there is an automated software installed called Softaculous that lets you select the software that you want to install and you'll be up and ready in no time. The web hosting packages vary and the most basic ones have PHP scripting support. If you want to use something like Adobe DreamWeaver, Microsoft Publisher, or even Microsoft Word to create and update the pages, you only need FTP access - that's easy to setup and you can probably create a helpdesk ticket to get help with doing it if you are not familiar with the cPanel setup. If you want to use a web-based tool, Softaculous comes into play and you can select a software package. If you hired a firm or a developer to build the website from the ground-up, which is not really necessary unless you have a specific requirement, then all you need to do is give them access to the database and an FTP account, both of which can be done through cPanel, or you can just give them your cPanel credentials and have the whole setup done for you by the hired party.

How do you do?I hope you are having a great start to the New Year. If you are here for the web hosting credits so you can get yourself a web hosting package, do post often. Maybe that can be your New Year's resolution. If you ever have a question, do feel free to post to the forum and some of us who are active and online at the time will have the honor of answering your question, and possibly getting an upvote from you.

I thought all web browsers had a way to export and import bookmarks, but after I saw your post, I checked in Internet Explorer, and it did not have the option built into the browser. I pressed Alt to make the menu bar visible, then went to the Favorites menu, and clicked Organize Favorites. That makes it possible to select one bookmark at a time, right-click on it, and copy it.However, there is a quicker way to accomplish a backup and restore of the bookmarks. When you go to the C drive in My Computer, go to the Users directory. Within the Users directory, there is a sub-directory for every user account that is on your system. If you do not remember your user name, press the Windows start key on your keyboard along with the R key on your keyboard to open up a dialog box to Run a command, and type cmd. This opens up a command prompt, that black window in Windows which has white text and looks like the archaic Microsoft DOS (or PC-DOS, or even Quick-DOS, for those of you who have been around that long), and look at the username there in the current path name after the Users directory. This is the directory name that you need to access from the My Computer view of the Users directory. So, when you enter that directory, there are a list of directories such as Desktop, Downloads, My Documents, and a couple of other directories. Double-click on the directory that reads Favorites and that directory should open up displaying all of your bookmarks from Internet Explorer. This directory can be copied and restores, as needed, for a backup and restore operation. It is possible to set up a script that can automatically copy this folder to a network shared drive whenever you start up your computer, so that you can achieve a kind of a synchronization between your computers.I hope this was not too late. You mentioned that time is running out, so perhaps you wanted to re-install Windows or format the hard drive of the computer that you were using, or you have a computer up for sale, or you were on a vacation and were using a buddy's computer and are headed out to the airport, and want to have your bookmarks with you. Whatever the case may be, I hope I posted this in time for you to be able to follow the instructions and make a copy of your bookmarks.
  23. The words "my own page" are not a link for me in your original post to this thread, so it is probably something that you are running on your computer or something on the network that you are connected to. Some free Internet hotspots are advertising sponsored, and work with advertisements being added through links to content. Then, there are proxy servers that do just the same. If you have a free toolbar or something added onto your browser or running on your computer, that could be inserting the advertisements too. I remember seeing a dictionary plugin for web browsers that would turn a word-selection into a dictionary query on a library computer.
  24. When it comes to integrating forums with other websites, I find it more appealing to use the forums that were designed for the integration. For example, there is WordPress, which is the most popular content management system around, and there is the forum software that is meant to be latched on, bbPress. I would not really consider creating extensions around another forum to integrate with WordPress when there is already bbPress, because it would take too much effort... although if someone else were to create one, I would most likely add it to my choices. I believe Drupal too has a forum extension, but I can't seem to recall the name right now.PunBB is pretty much abandoned, with no updates in over a year, but if someone did want to get a forum to modify and customize to their needs instead of creating a new one from ground-up, then PunBB would probably be something to consider. If PunBB were in active development, it would make an excellent choice though. It is light-weight so if somebody did not want to go with something like bbPress for WordPress because of server resource constraints, then PunBB would have been an option, except that it is no longer being maintained. I wonder if the PunBB folk can call out to any of their advanced users to help with the updates and maintaining the software, or if someone can just take the PunBB source code and fork the project. I do remember that PunBB has some parts based on another forum so I am unclear on whether the license would restrict the use of the software, but PunBB is released as GPL so I'm assuming that the use of all parts of PunBB are governed by the GPL - if it were not, there would probably be a license that explicitly stated that those parts are licensed differently.
  25. Pretty soon, all the mysql_ functions that we have been using in PHP scripts could go the way of the dinosaur. Well, not literally, because there are still some PHP scripts out there that are dependent on PHP 4 so some web hosting providers still provide PHP 4 hosting. Also, we hardly have anyone running PHP 5.5 so it could be at least a few months before we are going to have to worry about getting all of our scripts updated. Now that the mysql_ functions are deprecated, what next? MySQLi and PDO_MySQL are the answer. MySQLi provides some pretty nifty features, such as being able to send multiple SQL statements to the server in one go, thus reducing the overhead of going back and forth for the execution of SQL statements, which was associated with the older MySQL API. PDO has the advantage of being able to write database-independent code, assuming that the SQL statements themselves were written with portability in mind. Both APIs are the future for PHP web developers, so what better a time to start learning than right now?
