GSM is an EDGE mobile broadband. It is a slower mobile broadband and operates on a lower frequency than CDMA. CDMA do not use SIM that is why that unlocked handsets are usually GSM only, some unlocked handsets are able to function with CDMA, but carriers such as Sprint or Verizon do not work with it becuase they use the EV/DO mix of CDMA, so they don't need a SIM card. Verizon uses only EVDO and it doesn't support GSM becuase Verizon does not use GSM SIM Cards. 3G = CDMA and Edge is equal to GSM. If you notice, Europeans mostly have EDGE networks and their 3G rollout is based on CDMA for specific carriers, since they mostly use unlocked phones.

A difference of even 30kilobytes download or upload speed doesn't define a network. The reason I said I like the Verizon the best is because of the coverage in even rural locations. Its able to cover almost all of the continental US and compared to At&T, Sprint, T-Mobile the big 3, it has a larger coverage area. Phones do define a network, if they get the better phones first, like the HTC upcoming phones people will flock there to get it. There is a reason that AT&T has been bashed and berated AFTER the iPhone came out, it redifined the playing field. Before the iPhone you really only had those Treo's and some other WinMo phones. It didn't matter what carrier you were on, there was a phone for you to use as a business or a pleasure device. Now that the rise of personal smartphone computing has risen, the business end has dropped and people are looking at the phones than the network. Initially people flocked to AT&T for the iPhone, but because of the personal uses, only business users are complaining about shoddy networks.

That's really useful for anyone learning to make a template for Joomla. There's just so much in it, and thanks for the help even though you answered the topic's question thats a really robust and explanatory answer. @TS you can try using RocketThemes they have some great themes, and come out once a month, make sure to get a good plan though!

Welcome to Xisto Chris and enjoy your stay. Read the roles and post legitimate and helpful posts and you'll have a website and your own designs setup and on the internet soon. I got 30 dollars with only 190 posts, well not exactly, but its a great way to supplement your server costs.!

This is an old poll, since Verizon bought Alltell already. In my opinion I haven't had too much of a problem with lost calls or dead zones with Verizon. Some hotels are rather annoying but its just the rooms. Maybe's its the ceiling that doesn't let me get a signal. Verizon has the best service and a lot of people have it so the whole Verizon to Verizon thing really does help cut down your bill. Its self-sufficient but the prices are ridiculous. Its at least 10 dollars more than any plan to get texting, and the family plans are worse. Even data doesn't come without texting, its completely ridiculous.

I like the HTC Diamond a lot but the HTC Diamond2, and some of the new phones from HTC that Windows Mobile are coming out, like the Fiesta, Mega and Firenze. So I would actually wait on this because the HTC Diamond is actually an old phone, though it may not seem like it in the United States of America because we are often the last to get HTC's love. To differentiate between the two phones, they run different Operating Systems and have different purposes. The HTC Diamond is a stellar phone in its own right. It combines Windows Mobile 6.1, and it will get Windows Mobile 6.5 when it is released, if it is not tied to a carrier firmware update. Its great for multi-tasking and multi-threading. It has a good processor though its only an old Qualcomm, its pretty good. The phone itself, doesn't look like Windows Mobile because it combines TouchFLO a theme and overlay developed my HTC for their lineup of Windows Mobile Phones. In own right, the HTC Diamond is better than its competition in the Windows Mobile Realm. Outside of that it may not be the best. In my opinion, unless you need Business Support, and use your phone as a Pocket Computer, instead of texting, browser, and mail, you don't need the HTC Diamond. Its too slow if you only want texting, browsing and mail. The iPhone has the best Touch Keyboard I've seen so far. So you might have some problems, there, and the capactive touchscreen doesn't work that well with Windows Mobile device. If you need a business phone I recomend the Touch Pro2, because it has the qualities of the Diamond plus an additonal hard keyboard, that lets you write faster and multitask better.

That would be great, PassTheBoll, but put the link to the site to download in the video, so people will have to watch it or make it so that they need to view to to make it publicly viewable. Thats a great way to get more people to go to your site, and to download the link. Post the guide on other forums as well not only Xisto and yours. I like your sig, but I think you should use the select function in photoshop and get rid of the sides, it makes it look the picture is embedded rather than its a file in there. I really do like what you did. I would also trim the left side a bit and add a small shadow or something to make it look a little better on the car, end tweak the font to be a little darker and smaller so it looks like the Vista font. Oh also remember that its not Arial but Calibri I believe but I'm not sure on that. I believe I have my own result, let me go find it. Here it is:Wait no its broken, no point in showing something that won't display.

Nice design overall, I think maybe the blogspot or a wordpress layout would do better. Such a robust Content Manage System like Joomla! makes it looks so advanced for a site about school and your personal worries. You should try using something simple to start with and make the theme match your interests, because it looks too profressional to be about something personal. Maybe a more whimsical versus a dark and dreary theme would make it look more personal. I like some of the articles, but the idea is a little overused. Find a small niche that you like adding and go from there. Update more on twitter to show that you are there all the time, don't make your updates too personal like Justin Links, cause thats already been done, and it can affect your life more than you think. I would actually remove the Twitter sidebar if you don't like to update that much, add some more things to follow you, and share these articles on other sites, best way to build traffic is to be a guest writer for other blogs. Forums aren't that useful unless its a niche topic. A niche for a forum needs to be really indepth and you need a large community for that. Get a community, you know you have a good enough community for a forum where each post has at least a 100 comments that actually discuss and don't advertise, and at least 100 different users commenting.

What Is Your Favourite Operative System? Most used only.
Xalor replied to SpiderVV's topic in Operating Systems
My favorite operating system by far is Windows Seven, because I like how it gives me a simple interface to work with and how snappy it feels compared to Windows Vista. It doesn't seem bloated, and it combines the speed and power of Windos XP and the design of Windows Vista. I really do enjoy how it goes quickly and how I can arrange windows, which makes it so much easier than having to manually drag and drop and have a little OCD because it doesn't line up exactly. The Aero functions like Peek, Snap, Track, and all those little gimmicks make it amazing. Before Windows Seven I really did enjoy Windows XP Professional, because it was elegant, and looked so much better than those old Windows NT, CE and ME Operating Systems. It had a lot of theming potential, and what you got on Vista could be achieved in XP using a couple of simultaneous programs that took up less RAM and CPU power than Windows Vista. When I recieved my first laptop, I was excited for Windows Vista, when I ran it, with a better computer than my desktop could dream of, it was so bloaty, that I couldn't a game, and multitask with the internet, even though I got a great gaming rig, that had impressive Media functionalityIn the end Windows 7 Release Candidate 1 serves me the best so far. I love dual-booting it on this laptop, and I will get it for the low low price of fifty dollars or a hundred dollars if they allow me to upgrade to Windows Seven Ultimate so I can use Windows XP Profressional as well. I just hope the fact that its been cracked by that Levnovo Windows Seven Release To Manufacturing (RTM) OEM doesn't stop people from buying it and the price from going up. -
Welcome, and post well and you'll be on your way to hosting freedom! On Web Design I would use Dreamweaver + Fireworks/Photoshop. Actually even better than Dreamweaver for newcomers is Expression Web 2, it has a familiar interface for those who like word, and I like the lack of bloat in it compared to Dreamweaver. If you don't like doing too much debugging and all that work yourself, I would suggest an easy CMS to work with like kittyCMS, or a databased powered CMS, like Wordpress. Joomla and Drupal require an extensive knowledge of Javascript and PHP because it doesn't work well with links but by a script unlike wordpress which uses plugins that integrate into folders using relative paths compared to executing plugin scripts in Joomla. The best way is to find a simple theme, and change the header and other little things and start off from there.

Its next to impossible. I go from game to another game, and only don't wast around 6 months inbetween. The best way is to search for another game, and then you should always choose one in beta or alpha. I would do this because, by the time the game comes around you'll be really pumped, and it will dissapoint you and then you would rage quit. By this you can't stand to go for another game, and then there you have your addiction is beat, but then you will spiral into depression, because you have been out of the social realm for too long.

Gotta love my Dell. Best brand, best service. When I see or use a dell computer, there is something that feel solid about it. From the Mini 9 to the XPS, I see a real solidity, and a strength. The only thing missing is its business lineup. The design end, its completely ugly, and looks and functions like a brick. The reason in the end, is that Dell makes money of its Business Desktops and its Home Laptops.

If you do have your own domain, I believe that its just forwarded and overlapped, but gamma.xisto.com is actually the server, or is it your website? Apaprently, gamma.xisto.com isn't built, after checking it, so I doubt it is your site. I think the problem is that way it gets forwarded means that the message is automated. GMAIL considers it spam because its automated and everytime you force it form going into spam, it considers it for that message, the actually server itself is blocked in GMAIlL. I would try using a third-party client, use something like Outlook or Thunderbird for some more robust features, but I don't know myself, since GMAIL is one of the most robust web clients I have seen.

I'm looking forward to this tablet, I don't exactly know how its going to work though. Apparently it was decided to run the iPhone OS, with some more app functionality built in, like the way developers can make apps for the iPhone 3GS that wont work with the iPhone 3G. I hope this doesn't come to fruition as, Brian Tong, of CNET puts its best. "I already have an iPhone, its yay big, and it can fit in my pocket, why the heck would I need this". Bad Apple indeed, Apple. Really whats the point, you need a decent, at least make the OS half-baked so we can rip and love on it. Give it some features that makes it better than others. Oh whoopy it has a full capacitive touchscreen, oh and it has multitouch, but why would I need it when I have a iPhone or even an iPod Touch. With that size, it may or may not have a webcame, because of the way it will be built. The fact of the matter is, even if it is only a tablet, or a maybe a touchscreen Kindle, or even a regular type Netbook with tablet features, I really don't know about what it can do in the end.

Like the text and simplicity of it. I would have used a different render though, doesn't stand out as much as, it if it was rotate on the other side. I really like it though. Its a statement as a logo and the simple blending options are pretty amazing. What does Central Gaming do anyway? Are you planning on replacing your current sig? Make it pretty diverse though, seems like it isn't only about Counter Strike though. I have played Counter Strike Source in the past actually, it was pretty interesting. I don't like FPS in general and most shooting games. One of my favorite FPS games is Gunz The Duel, and Gunbound, cause it took little to set up a new account, and you can get started with the pros right away. It was quite fast paced, so I kind of quit pretty quickly, as it took to much time to find a room and I didn't make many friends. All in all really nice, hope to see more of your banners.

Seriously, who games on that level? This is a rather old topic, but the question still persists, is Intel better than AMD. I would think getting an AMD chip on a computer that you will build yourself is cheaper and a greater use of the product. When you make your own comp from the parts, you can add a heatsink, fans, and even oil-cooled systems to get rid of the negatives. Its around the same, but I use Intel for my own bought computers, because it keeps it a lot cooler, I know the difference personally, because I switched out the AMD one, and shelled out the extra 30-40 dollars for an Intel one. AMD is good, but sometimes, the quality isn't there. Most companies do use Intel as a main product on their website, the ones you build, but the ones you get at stores of the same company, take Dell, for example, only has Intel at Dell.com, but at Best Buy, 6th Avenue, Circuit City, has a mainstream AMD computers, because its cheaper for them to show deals with AMD, but you don't get the same customization. Also take into account the overclocking ability. Underclocked most processors are pretty much the same, but the extent of factory, or yourself being able to overclock is key for gamers.

To download apps its, actually on the Jailbroken iPod, depending on the platform that you install. I reccomend Zibri's Jailbreaker App, since it works the best compared to the new ones. Its been around and worked for me, but mine was a 1st Gen iPod Touch. Though jailbreaking is great and all, I don't think its worth it. New apps aren't really being developed on the Jailbroken end, I would actually just get the regular app store, since it is much better. The app Store lets you get the new apps, without having a problem on updating. Just shell out the 10 dollars, to get an upgrade not that bad, now that it can do so much more!

I think really the best way to start using Photoshop is to start with basic signatures, try Sigtutorials.com those tuts are really good for beginners.

Freewebs and its slew of hosting services, like SynthaSite, are bandwith based, of 50MB per month which is pointless because there is little you can do with that, so hosting you videos is impossible, if you do something with FreeWebs its almost forced that you link it and embed it instead of directly streaming, keeping it withing less than 10kb per page, so you don't max out and have it go down. I recommend actually Business Website Live or something like that Microsoft, its free for the year, so you can experiment there, and learn more and finally get to the level of Xisto and running a host and starting with scratch other than hosting and Fantastico. I was never really a fan of GeoCities, it was too Yahoo(ish) to me. I don't like Yahoo because its full of bloat, too hard to sign up and do other things with it.

Explore My first try at space art
Xalor replied to encryptedwrath's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
That's *censored* amazing. I can't believe that could be made on a program, nevertheless a human on a piece of paper. That's really good, the only problem if it is a problem is the star blast where the light is coming from the upper left corner, I would just leave a lens flare on the top curve of the blue planet instead of a star burst, but I like making it seem sorta of deja vu (ish) Really amazing piece of work, I would make it into a signature by cropping out a bit, and using effects with the text, to make it feel spaceship like. What were the resources used in this, or a tut that you followed if you did?I just wanted to know to see where you started from or what inspired this. -
I would use Black on Design Portfolios, and Personal Sites, which encompass Gaming Sites, Blogs, and others. Light colors, are for professional sites. Usually its a simple white background that uses other colors in image over than emphasizing background. First off though you need a theme, based on the content. If its about your life, like lets say a pilot's blog on his travels. Don't use black, use lighter colors, blues and whites, some greens.

Hey guys, while I've been gone, I've been trying out some new styles, in Photoshop with a design, if it looks good, then I'll usually use a convert it to HTML and use as little CSS as possible and the basic table layout to put in some content. I haven't gotten even to that and the content there is just for natures sake. I hate Lorem Ipsum since it doesn't capture what I like doing. I said that I don't use CSS when I slice, (I save HTML and Images instead of Images Only), because I'd rather keep the files to a minimum when I want to see how it lays out. When it does look good, and after I finish, edits buttons and start on the other core files, like setting up an RSS file, and getting interface done for the media player, and draw up the total concept, and figure out how to or get the PHP Code for forms and other basic stuff to see if its possible or not, then I begin drawing up a template. I've only done simple ones, in the past, and I can do more advanced since I got Expression Web 2, and it pretty much automates PHP and CSS for me, lot easier than coding from scratch. After it works out in there, and I test it in FF, IE and Chrome, don't have Opera, and don't plan on installing it. I then slice larger images into tiny segments so the download time goes down and then I have a template. I generally don't get far, so this is mostly the process that goes on in my head, if its for a site that I expect will do good, I'll spend a lot of time on it. My room is littered with half done mockups of templates on graph paper. For the templates I have below, the design was for my uncle who runs a PMP Online Class for people new to the IT Management World, and want a couple of new certifications and information under their belt. Its located at http://www.certschool.com/. I did a oouple of banners, but I kind of hate doing banners, so I did a mockup for his birthday as a gift. He doesn't want to use black since it doesn't work that well on low power monitors, being that most of his students are rather "cheap", not to be racist, but we Indians, especially students on students Visas, or workers on H1s tend to be cheap, since they are paid less, and pay more for school. Here are the three basic layout pages. Blog and Forums are really hard to actually code, so they were just an idea, the background is different for each one because they would be rotated around, here and there, on every refresh. Home and other Main Pages Blog Forums Those are it, I'm planning on redoing it but for now his site maintains itself with the people who register, and its a lot of content, so I need to a new content based design, probably using a lot of mouseover effects, and I'll start doing some vectors in Inkscape so stay tuned.

Gfxtrap Tournament 2.0 Join the Trap Graphics Tournament
Xalor replied to Xalor's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
Hey guys, I came back after a month or so, I stop really looking into hosting and well stopped really doing anything but HW and other things, but the tournament is still on, and I guess we'll extend it until ever? It doesn't look like anyone submitted anything other than S_M -
I would say since he is using GIMP most likely that or one of the open source Logo Creators. The only problem I have with your site is that it doesn't fit together very nicely. You need to change transparencies to the center piece, and make it a transparent box or convert the box the surrounds the main text into a gloss sheen, and then set the opacity slightly lower, to make it look like glass and convert into an SVG try it on Illustrator or Inkscape. I'll post up my theme that I've been working on, soon enough, its red though >.> Change the other fonts to lets say Tahoma and make it bold with a shadow effect. The text not the whole page itself. The text is good now but slightly too large. I'm really sorry about suggesting too much. I know how pressure it is when everyone wants a different change. Since I saw the actual image, if possible can I have a copy of the webpage? I just want to see how it looks never coded my templates before.
-
I like to some extent the gel feel of it looks pretty cool. It doesn't have the same flow as a normal style. you need to establish a basic flow with your templates. it has to fit nicely together. That begins with the fonts, usually sans serif fonts are the best for web pages since they establish a level of uniformity between each character. Arial, Tahoma, Trebuchet MS, Myriad Pro, Calibri and most of the Vista Fonts are pretty good to use on a website. Arial is one of the best. When you are unsure of a character to use, set the alternative font to Arial, so the browser doesn't revert back to Times New Roman. I like the blue style, and the fact that you did it on GIMP makes it pretty amazing to me. You inspired some part of me to show off a new template I've been trying to make, not done yet almost done with the home page. I need to do the interface for the video player.
