  1. Places you use a thumb drive and can't substute network, or Internet (without some real work)Backup in a single computer home on Dial-up Live Linux distro, either for use of rescue transfer files to computer without network keep passwords on, you'd be very dumb to keep your Passwords online WPA encription keys private data transfer, (can't be intercepted or sniffed) and of course, Geek Factor ("Hey look at my thumbdrive, 2GB!!!")
  2. Try dumping you cache, and temp files/history. Or try holding down Shift or ALT (I can't remember which) when you press refresh, it should tell the browser to ignore cached information and fetch a new copy of the site.
  3. Bandwidth will be a problem if your ISP has a bandwidth regulation, many don't have an explicit limit but will cut off your service if you use too much, other will limit you to as little as 5gb per month. As for the sleeping, it depends how asleep, just the screen off, YES, HDD off NO, but the happy medium will depend on the type of computer and how deep a sleep.
  4. Okay I really don't want to reinstall, so I think I will try to remove the new and old user settings, as well as control panel settings, are there any other places user information is stored that I may have to manualy clean?
  5. I believe the biggest you can buy at the store is 500gb, however I wouldn't know about the biggest on in the world. I would guess somewhere in the 1-5 TB range.
  6. I have a second account on this XP Home computer and when I go to login to it, it no longer displays my settings. FUrther examination in the Documents and Settings folder shows that The account actualy has two folders, one username and one username.computername. Now I believe that when I login it is pulling the information from the latter, how can I tell it get the information from the other folder, short of removing and recreating the account?
  7. Okat so I did something and now when I log in as this one user it doesn't show the origional Document, setting and other garbage stored in the C drive. You know how normaly you have folder with the user name stuck in Documents And Settings, well now I have that Username but also another on with the name of the computer appended on the back, it appears that all the new account settings and files are being stored here, however I don't want them to be as All the existing settings are still in the original folder, how can I tell Windows to look here rather then in the new folder?Hope that's clear
  8. You only need 500gb Harddisk if you plan on hosting ~500gb of stuff.
  9. Ever wanted to just turn on our computer and when you get back it's already on the desktop? (Rather then having to login at the welcome screen)Now some computer have this feature by default, but what if it gets broken, try this.On an Administrator account goto start >> Run, and type "control userpasswords2" (without the quotes)Uncheck the box that "Users must enter a Username and Password to use this computer", then press Ok. You will be prompted to enter a default user and their pasword, then next time you restart the computer it will automaticaly login to that user!

    The Weather Man

Here they do the same thing. Although I wake up in the moring listening to the radio. There we're reports "I'm turning back would not recomend travel on the road" "Travel not recomended, RCMP suggest staying off Highway." ect. THen the weather guy says almost the entire Province is white out snow. Now I am all excited, because here it is december and you can still see the grass in some places, when I get upstairs, skys are clear, visability, yeah I can almost not see 10km!
  11. Try seeing if there is an entry in the add/remove programs menu, in the control pannel. If you have already fone this remove it from the printer folder in control panel as well.
  12. Yeah, if it's a new processor, but the samoe old heatsinc/fan then it just might not be good enough, although my experience woth heat, you don't even have time to POST
  13. Okay first of all, ouch, racist. Okay, but you gotta admit that we make our fair share of shows that make fun of Americans. Chilly Beach, for example, or even better yet, Rick Mercer's Talking to Americans (I love that show) Not a lot of us would thank Chretien for all that much, but I do have to agree with you. I also feel that not only has he saved us from political oppression, he may have also stopped a terrorist attach on Canadian soil. Or it could be the theory that terrorist organizations have established themselves in Canada, and don't want to attack the "mother country" so to speak . Maybe this isn't something I should be sharing, for matters of national security reasons, but how's this, this is what the Canada US border looks like in the less secure areas. So I don't think that over all this is that big an issue. As the COUNTRY of Canada we have the right to choose who we go to war with, and who we remain neutral with. And frankly just because big brother to the south says so, isn't a very good reason.
  14. It's not quite what you want but try phpMyChat. Let me know what you find out, this is something I would also like to try.
  15. Don't quote me, but that shoud fix things, you might want to wait for second opinion. Unless it isn't a problem, you might even be able to reinstall ontop of the existing OS, wich would reset the resistry and system file so program wouldn't work but your files would still be there.
  16. Sounds like it may be a heat issue, a good computer will shut off when it gets to hot, and going into safe mode will tell some stuff not to run thus heating it up.ORYou say the HDD isn't new, does that mean that all the software/install on it is old also? if so you will need to reinstall (sorry) inorder for it to work. Safemode used default and simplified drivers thus not resulting in a crash. If you still want to keep the old data, buy another HDD and install to it then hook up the old one as slave.
  17. I'd like to say one more thing now that I've warmed up and came to my senses, you know why the little plastic things are there? To prevent idiots from using their string of lights as an extersion cord for things that need to be grounded.
  18. I have 5 tree shaped wooden frames that have had 5 strings of outdoor lights attached to them, No I want to attach them together, and as we know on one end is a male plug, and the other end has a female end. Now I want to know why anyone would make an "Outdoor" set of christmas lights, that doesn't work with "Outdoor" Externsion Cords? The female end of the string of lights has a little plastic flap so you can't use any cord that has been grounded, which are the only extenstion cords sold for outdoor use. Infact some insurance plans won't pay out fire insurance if you didn't use "Outdoor" cords outside, which like said I can't, because, well I can't.
  19. Okay, thanks, that worked fine, and for the time being the example can be found here, http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/
  20. Okay, I'm not sure this is the right place for this message, but I was wondering if I can have diffrent error messages for diffrent subdomains, so mysite.trap17.com/a_file_that_isnt_real, would yield one error page, where as secondpage.mysite.trap17.com/a_file_that_isn't_real would yeild a diffrent 404 page?
  21. Try this. in your code you must change a few things change this: <form method="get" action="mailto:plenopti@plenopticdesign.be">to this: <form method="post" action="makemymail.php">this will submit this informaiton along to the file maikemymail.php, you could call it anything you want, but this should do. next change this: <INPUT NAME="Site Name" VALUE="Young" Type="text" SELECTED>to this: <INPUT NAME="Site_Name" VALUE="Young" Type="text" SELECTED>no big just have to get rid of the space in the name. Now we must make the actual mailer, I stole most of this code from the php manual, at php.net. Wwe will call this file makemymail.php, and place it in the same directory as the origional form. <?php/* recipients */$to = "your_email@address.here"; /*if you want more then one reciever check the manual at php.net *//* subject */$subject = "An afiliat request from $name";/* message */$message = "$name has requested to become an afiliat of you site, his/her site is $Site_Name";/* additional headers */$headers .= "To: <your_email@address.here>\r\n";$headers .= "From: $name\r\n";/* and now mail it */mail($to, $subject, $message, $headers)?> I havn't check the code fully, however it should work fine. If there are any problems with it please post back.
  22. Actualy google is one of the few search engins we can know everything about. They recently filed for a patent, which means a search as the US pattent office will yeild a very detailed description of how google works. I believe I heard the same thing about google not using them. Mainly because they are to easy to manipulate. If I know that the most searched term on google is Free Beer (just an example) and I want my site to get more hits, (it by the way is about the evils of gambling, because I am a chirch group, again just an example) I could use meta tags and say that my site is about free beer, thus increasing it's rank among people looking for free beer, and then getting more hits, even though my site isn't about free beer at all, understand?
  23. I agree with BuffaloHELP, I understand how you could be upset, but not having heard the tone used I'd say it could be a take at not trying to upset you. That being said if this was said as an insult, or even a personal opinion gone to far, you might want to tell someone of authority, say the principal. Now if you could do it all again, and (just in case it backfired) didn't have anything to do over winter break, you could have told him, "Okay if Hanukkah isn't important, then I will be here on December 25th, and I expect you to be here to teach me, that's your job!" And as far as getting in trouble for talking back, oh well, just threaten to sue the school, people have been sued for religious discrimination, especially coming from a figure of authority. Also by fat ugly Canadian face I hope you mean that his face is fat and ugly, and by chance he just happens to be Canadian, because just as you were told that Hanukkah is less important, and that upset you, being told that Canadians are all fat and ugly upsets me.
  24. Well forst what's your stand? But I thing that full body cloning, not good, who would want an army of bill gates running around? Not me that's for sure. But small tissue cloning would be great, just think of what you could fix, "need a kidney? give my 7 days and I'll grow you one." (This statement does not indicate an actual offer)
  25. We're just above all that , as an example, in social class we just read an essay about Canadian geography. And the author made an interesting statement. Apparently there was a judge (or something like that) who was on a committee, and the committee was posed the question, what do we do about the Quebec Separatist problem?, that is one of the oldest provinces in Canada wanted to break off and form their own country. This judge, who was from England, said that we should charge them all with treason, at this statement he was nearly laughed out of the room. The very notion of charging someone who wanted to separate was absurd. And even now there are very few countries where you could propose the issue and not get shot. I don't mean to offend anyone right now but just look at Russia, there are whole masses of land that want to split off, and instead of rational negotiation, (in some cases, not all) it is just all out war.But more to the point of that, we are certainly faced with problems now, there was a case, its not even over yet, where 300 million dollars went missing. That is actually where the recent overturning of the government has came from. Wow looking back at that I didn't mean to type quite that much. Afraid not, they don't let me vote, and I'm not sure I would given the chance. Outside the little facts that I gather I find all the finger pointing and blame sickening. I pay very little attention to the affairs they are actually arguing over. But that is a whole other vent
