  1. actually my old ISP was that way, this one is different. I'm certian because I was able to make the same settings work on my portable.UPDATE:Restarting the computer fixed the problem, don't know if it will come back though...
  2. This all started yesterday when I opened up Outlook express. It sat at the Send/Receive window for a time then told me the server wasn't responding, and I could wait or stop. Upon stopping I got this error: Now I've just switched to this ISP, and figured that maybe it was a problem on their side, and I'd let the problem wait a while. Later that day same thing happened, so I tried logging into their web based mail system, that worked. I used mail2web.com to access it, that also worked. I have a laptop on the same network, so I set up Outlook express in it, that downloaded the messages. So I have come to the conclusion that it isn't the ISP. I turned off the firewall and placed the computer in the routers DMZ, still nothing. And I have removed and reentered the account information several times. Though I may have to try it, switching to a different program isn't really an option as I am not the sole user of this computer and other people don't like change. Any thoughts?
  3. I am looking for ome background mucis for an anniversary video. I really don't know too much about music so I thought I'd cast the net out there for anyone with ideas. I needs to be uplifting but not to modern, it's a 40th anniversary so the age of the people need to be considered.
  4. I aggree it seems a little dark, I can see it fine but I know I built a site with similar colour layouts and I've come accross a few monitors that don't display it properly. Secondly It loads far too slow for people on dial-up The main image is 119 kb which I know doesn't seem like a lot, but it took about 45 seconds to load, 45 seconds in which I kept thinking Is there something wrong with me? or him? or the server? My browser says it's done, should I refresh? Now It appears to me that you did it as a CSS background, fine, but also that the image is 1200px wide, I'd assume that you did this to make it fit on more screen resolutions, however as was said add some borders around the text, perhapse if you did something like.... As you can see I made that whole image less then 100kb, so compression is definatly required. And one more thing, the greenish boxes beneth the "Localhost" don't appear anywhere else in the dessign. I personaly have nothing against them, but you've set them as a part of your dessign and then aren't using them elsewhere. I see you have a favicon, perhapse there, or as bullets for the list of websites. Other then that, I like it a lot, the water drops are very nice. I only which I could build something that nice in blender (I've tried). It is a very plain design, now in some refrences that would be an insult, but not here, you've accomplished a fair bit, and to still keep it plain, very good. Not to mention it cuts down on our bandwidth costs, as well as my lode time. Win, win.
  5. I was trying to make a report for a post however when I submitted it I got ...
  6. This post shouldn't be in what is... But I will answer none the less. A DDOS attack is a distributed denial of service attack. Not an attack through DOS, and this would be nearly imposable; DOS doesn't have the best network/internet ability (If it even has it at all). A denial of service attack is designed to deny service to a computer buy overloading its connection. When you make it distributed, you are making a bunch of computers attack one computer thus rendering it useless. This is done by "dropping" bad packets onto the internet in the direction of a computer. By definition the computer will respond, or else not respond as the firewall settings do. Either way this action will require some time on the part of your computer. If you can send enough bad packets at one IP address you can make it stop responding, or remove its ability to access the internet. Here is a site which goes into detail: http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ EDIT: I see there is also a topic regarding this, here http://forums.xisto.com/topic/37204-what-is-ddos/
  7. I'm looking at getting Xisto - Web Hosting account, and was wondering, If I were to get a cheep account now would I be able to upgrade it as my need increased?
  8. If by 'it' you mean your free hosting I believe the answer is no. Somewhere in the TOS
  9. Right I remember that now too, you don't get preformance improvements unless you are using a duo ready application, I think photoshop is an example, or you are running two processes at once.
  10. I don't know not my favourite book, but still good. Yes the ending is great. Some of it is rather confusing.
  11. The only time I'd be okay with this is if it were to be the propritory file format used in some Microsoft Image editing program like xcf for GIMP and psd for PhotoShop. In this case that'd be good not like macromedia addopting the png for fireworks and screwing it up, unless you "export".
  12. I'd have to aggree with you there. Paint is good enough, there are many laternatives if you disagree, and besides if microsoft were to change it it would mean a complete rewrite, which would mean a .net based application, which from microsoft means a program that installs to 2mb, runs using 50mb and taks 3 mins to load!
  13. I never thought of it thatway, what about putting on a forum?
  14. Not my cpanel, but If (this is only an example) I offered website hosting, could I place adsense into my clients cpanels. I believe in that policy they refer to emails as in, Here is an email generated from my systems, oh look adsense in the header or footer. I was refering to placing adsense in peoples email inboxes, (If for example I was offering free email hosting, I know I can't at Xisto, but this is only an example) sorta like gmail, although obvously not as good.
  15. I've been reading the adsense rules and can't find direct rules anywhere. Can I put Adsense in my user control panel, or user email. So, for example, on this site (assuming it is possable) could they put adsense into cpanel?
  16. Same here, only for screen shots, it loads quicker then anything else, and I've made Ctrl+Alt+Shift+P run it, although it would be nice to see better jpg and gif support, they both are too high compression for my tastes.I'd say the biggest change they made was between paint for windows 2 and paint for windows 3, they added colour support
  17. I can't see your warn meter, (If you still have it) so I think it's just you, and maybe the mods.
  18. RIAA can't fine you they aren't a legal body. That's like If I were to send you a ticket in the mail fining you $400 for being rude to me at lunch, doesn't matter, nothing gonna make you pay it.
  19. You could also try running memtest on your ram, leave it on overnight see what happens. Umm, check your BIOS and see if there is some setting in there that might be telling you cpu to run slower, or only use one stick of ram. Check in the windows system prefrences (right click on computer, choose properties) and see if the amount of ram is what you think it is, also check to see if the processor is what you think, again this could be cause by a BIOS thing, I had a 3200+ processor detected as a 2200+ simply because the FSB wasn't set right in the BIOS.
  20. I love the quick links at the bottom of each site which tell you the most recent posts, ect. However I think it would be nice to know that forum they are posted in because I have a slow connection and it is a waist of my time when I see a topic that I can answer and it actualy a tutorial. Or even if the tutorials could be in a diffrent colour, have an icon or be labled with a [tutorial] in the link. Also on a related note there are several posts which can't be opened because they were colsed or in the case of a tutorial were not opened yet and they also waist my time to load, so it would be nice to see them removed from the list compleatly.
  21. Yes make sure you are in your own account when posting as the chances are pretty good that you and the people in your house will have slightly diffrent tastes, while you might spend more time in PHP help, they might spend time in free stuff. Or as an alternate option you could suggest they get an Xisto account.
  22. One reason it could cost that much to run that site would be the cost of a large internet connection, particularly if the site was being hit by a DDoS attack, and needed to have more bandwidth then the attackers.
  23. You could try TMPGEnc, it's not my favourite program but lots of people seem to like it it will make a mpg-2 stream for later burning to DVD, free trial of that feature.http://www.tmpgenc.net/
  24. It's all about making your audience see what you want them to. Scientists are always trying to make you see what they want you too, and magic is a great thing to study. Imagine being in a room with a magician and he has a blue deck of cards, he turns each of the card over one by one face up and tells you to count the number of red faced cards (something like 16). Easy when he's done, he flips the deck back over (face down) and breaks it up into piles of four, and the audience sees that the cards are all blue backed, not red as they started. So, how'd he do that? Again this is just an experiment not an actual trick, because someone observant would be able to figure you out. He takes a deck that has 3 or four cards on the top which are red backed, and then the rest are blue, you just don't notice the colour changing because you are focusing on the face of the cards. Trust me it works, and makes you feel like an idiot.
  25. No offence, but you two are nuts, you're not even arguing and yet seem to think that you are. One says you can't print with PHP (atleast not for the client) And the other one say that PHP doesn't parse javascript code. Both very good points, and very true, however they don't confict. Now yes it does, if you do something with php it uses php when you write echo "some JS code"; it uses php, it just does. again if you use php to echo something then you DO use php, and why, perhapse elrohir felt it would be a good idea if .hack//GU knew you could enclose javascript inside the echo statement, and perhapse then bu knowing that .hack//GU would be able to have something which would only offer the print command to users who were signed in so//set user logged in state$loggedin = TRUE;//determin output based on previous decisionif ($loggedin ==TRUE){echo "the print command (I don't do JS)";}else {echo "I'm sorry the print option is only available to registered users"}
