Everquest Forum Banner your critique
BuffaloHelp replied to BuffaloHelp's topic in Graphics, Design & Animation
The background is a picture of a horizon. The "streak" by her hand is an island among the body of water. The diagonal streak is actually a planet or a moon with debris orbiting around it. Now that I look at it, I think I compressed down without keeping the aspect ratio. I was deliberately going for the off centered look. At the time of my inspiration, so many banners were so symmetrical that I went for the different look. I wanted to make a statement that the forum that which has this banner is not your average forum. -
If you took the time to read our forum, you might've noticed that we already had this topic started long, long time ago. It's not that I discourage duplicate topics but when you don't even bother to read past threads and start posting is against the posting rules. Perform the search next time. This belongs in Software, Operating Systems and NOT in Technology--because you haven't discussed the technicial aspects of Longhorn.

Most of us are at the mercy of our internet service provider. And you really cannot count on dynamic IP address for the life of you! I think I got this link from one of our forum posts but I couldn't find it. So I'll just place the link here: http://www.dsl-speed.org/webhosting.htm As you can see, instead of tinkering around your OS, with this software it's easily managed. This site offers you in details how to set up your DSL (or Cable model) to make your personal computer as a hosting service. Visit this site for more information.

I am more comfortable with myself and with this forum members to bare myself and open to constructive critiques. Back in June 3rd, 2004, on the request of a friend of mine, I created the following banner for his Everquest II forum. Although he hasn't said much about my put-together banner, I am still curious to how well my attempt was. For those who are critiquing my work please don't hold back. I cannot place a copyright for this image since almost all of it came from other copyrighted images. However, it still is my creation and should be respected accordingly. For your consideration: Additional note: the boarders were created separately to reduce the loading time. The current forum's boarder is 2 pixel by 10 pixel in beveled like black boarder that wraps around this banner.

Forum Users Age What is the average Forum Users age?
BuffaloHelp replied to ckuehner's topic in General Discussion
Well for one, I was tired of typing all that. And two, isn't there a saying, "you turn 20, you make it to 30, you hit 40, you roll to 50 and you reach for 60" When you look at the metaphor, it's like a rollercoaster--40 is the very top right before the rolling down towards 50. HA HA! Anyhow, I rather be older and wiser than young and fearless... -
Forum Users Age What is the average Forum Users age?
BuffaloHelp replied to ckuehner's topic in General Discussion
What I would have done is include a poll for members to vote without divulging one's name. Perhaps creating an age bracket would be better. For example: 10 and below between 11 and 15 between 16 and 20 between 21 and 25 between 26 and 30 between 31 and 35 between 36 and 40 40 and higher ...well you get the idea. I am in list #6 range. Edit: ha ha ha, picked older than my age group. -

I am glad to see that you have decided to join our forum. Make it yours! Take care of it and defend it. Administrators and moderators will try the best to keep the bad guys out and you play hard!Feel free to give us a shout or a private message. See you around!

I have not heard anything about maximum RAM burning out CPU. However, I suppose there is a possibility due to extra heat created by RAM chips themselves. And you do have Compaq (not that it's a bad computer brand but I just don't like how Compaq has BIOS stored in the hard drive sector instead of an actual BIOS chip). I'm going to assume that you have a desktop. Make sure that you have free flowing of fresh air to minimize the heat buildup. As long as your user's manual says that it's capable of up to 1GB of RAM, I think you are alright. Make sure that you choose the RAM that is recommended by the manufacture.

How To Fix A Driver Error If Unable To Enter Win
BuffaloHelp replied to k2wl's topic in Operating Systems
I believe you Windows XP could not fully install itself due to user account password not being fully erased. If you are able to attempt a full fresh installation, I would strongly recommend that you delete the partition during your initial setup. Just reformatting does not completely delete the Windows XP protected sector (the boot sector). Deleting the partition or FDISK should ensure that whatever is left from your previous files are free from protection.Give that a try and let us know how it goes. There are ways to perform a Windows repair procedure but since you already started to reinstall your OS, I believe this would be the best way. -

In a short answer: as long as you have the written permission from the artist(s) of the CD album, you may host the music or post a link using Xisto hosting. Although you are the owner of said CD(s) you merely purchased the rights to listen without additional royalty. If you provide, even if you purchased it, any means of others who have not purchased a CD album to copy (either download or record off of your site) then it is illegal--also against TOS. For further reading and discussion, please refer to http://forums.xisto.com/topic/23731-media-on-other-hosts/ Edit: clarified meanings

Man Charged For Stealing Wi-fi Signal
BuffaloHelp replied to areawe's topic in Science and Technology
In your sister's case, KuBi, it may be illegal. Your sister is not "paying" for her internet service and it is a personal usage. To explain, her school that she works for provides for her...not that she's paying out of her own pocket. Who's really paying are the tax payers of her school district to provide her with "accommodating" internet service. Therefore, she is doing wrong to your neighbor. Your neighbor pays for the fast connection and your sister is just free-loading that neighbor's hard earn money. -
Question About Mouselistener Specifically getX() and getY()
BuffaloHelp replied to beeseven's topic in Programming
Sounds like it's more technical that I expected. What I can comment on this is that sometimes it's all in the hardware. When you purchase a mouse (any type, ball or inverted) the good ones will have sensitivity ratings. For example, my Kensington TurboBall has 160dpi sensitive rating where as my Wacom tablet has 600dpi. Using my Kensington mouse I can do just about any device pointing job. But with my Wacom tablet I can edit any high resolution photo as though I was creating from a scratch. I can notice that when I use Kensinton mouse I cannot quiet pin-point certain pixel area to color or edit. Perhaps the mouse that is attached to the computer isn't as sensitive as it should be. -

How much you wanna bet? *starts to print out the sig on a T-shirt printing paper and whips out the ironing board* .:ironing:. HA! No St. Michael I truly appreciate it! No one has ever designed a signature for me. I'll make sure I keep that well in my file folder. -
Man Charged For Stealing Wi-fi Signal
BuffaloHelp replied to areawe's topic in Science and Technology
A few friends (all judicial and IT security specialists) and I were one day discussing what is right and what is wrong. And I came to a conclusion that if I am paying for a broad band connection, I think I am not breaking any law by hopping on to someone else's broad band connection--since wireless connection signal may cross each other. I am not justifying that I am dedicatedly using someone else's wireless signal, but that if my wireless card happens to connect to my neighbor's wireless router (and not mine) it is still under the law since I am still paying for my broad band connection (whether I use it or not). And so does my neighbor. Can this guy get any dumber than he already is? I mean c'mon, you could've sat in one of Starbucks coffee places and surfed all his hearts content for free! If you think not purchasing anything and just using their free wireless connection is unethical, so does charging 4 bucks and some change for a cup of "elegantly pronounced" coffee names. But I do pay for them anyhow... -
You are currently have made two distinguishable contributing posts. Most of your posts are either to this thread or your initial "vent" titled, Trapped Writing One Liners. It is premature to assume that your application would be accepted this soon. I would suggest picture a long term goal and make contributions to this forum. Although I cannot guarantee your approval, moderators will review your posts in about 30 days to lower 1 warning level. You currently have 2.Edit: DO NOT PM moderators requesting to review your warning level. When you make impressionable contributions you will automatically be noticed.

Here you go, Cerb. One screen shot as requested. Although it does not make any difference if your monitor color temperature setting is as your liking. I can have the same monitor color setting as yours but if my graphics card has Adobe sRGB color space setting it will be different. Ya know?

Now, you must practice the art of patience and keep posting quality posts to win administrators trust. Learn to be still...

curthard89, if you took the time to search the forum you will find that this topic has many threads. Moving to proper forum.

Either check your Windows color settingRight click anywhere in the desk top >> Properties >> Appearanceor your monitor may be losing the ability to shoot one of the color cathodes. If changing your color scheme does not work out, try testing it out on a different monitor.Moving from Hosted Members Area --> Computers, software, operating system

Ahem...I can't go into a detail...but the company I used to work for required every employees to search out other websites and to read "codes" that general public cannot comprehend 100% and keep it under a watch--especially when those languages were used to exploit the security loop of my formal company's data or luring perverts out from hiding and slap them with cold steel cufflinks. That is all. I was hired to read between the lines, bait and catch kind of things.
