Caller Id In My Computer What is the best Caller ID Program?
BuffaloHelp replied to ManOfSTEEL's topic in Hardware Workshop
You have to subscribe to Caller ID service through your residential phone service provider. Without this service, no matter how much you spend on your phone or the software, you cannot see the calling number. There used to be a program called CommandCom but with cellular phone services providing free caller ID service with the contract, the software slowly phased out. You are not supposed to see the number you are transferred to. The whole phone directory system is that once you enter the POS (phone operating system, a.k.a. ISN) you are now navigating though its routing system. What you are asking is what the original "hacker" used to do, called, 2600 people a.k.a. alt.2600. The word hacker started when you can dial into a POS, let's say AT&T, and with the correct numerical sequence you can tell that POS to transfer you to the outside extension. Then, you can call anywhere in the world by dialing into AT&T 800 number. This is illegal then, and it is illegal now. And the process of knowing and finding out which number you are being transferred to is "hacking" the POS of the company you dialed. As far as I'm concerned you are asking for an illegal operation. Do not ask it again, please. That's part of the reason that Bernie S. went to jail for about 1 year without bail. -
One Final Question... Hosting Credit Days...
BuffaloHelp replied to theconman's topic in Web Hosting Support
For some reason, you can't seem to keep enough hosting credits (days you don't have to post) you can ask OpaQue and purchase hosting credits. I personally have not done so, therefore I do not know the rate which you can purchase. If you are going away for a week and you only have 5 hosting credits, when you come back you'll see that it's -2 hosting credits. You then have to post enough to bring it back to 4 hosting credit before a server script kicks in to revive your suspended website.I didn't mean to close your previous post but these question and more are found if you take the time to read TOS and FAQ that are available on the Hosting Member section. Okay? -
404 Error Pages How do you make them?
BuffaloHelp replied to elusive-shadows's topic in Web Hosting Support
Regarding making your own 404 Error page, please refer to this link http://forums.xisto.com/topic/22491-custom-404-error-pages-a-tutorial-on-how-to-make-custom-404-error-pages/ As for the difference between 404 and splash screen is that a splash screen is generally used to notify viewers the status of what is going on. Think of it as a very nice looking post-in note. It generally serves as a dialogue box to let the user know what's going on during installation or loading process. Splash screen is mainly not a full screen feature. You can commonly see it when you install a program in your computer or when you see a large flash file being loaded. EDIT: for more on splash screen refer to this link http://forums.xisto.com/topic/23441-splash-screen-good-or-bad-splash-gone-for-good-why/ Topic closed. -
I Have 10 Credits... but its not working...
BuffaloHelp replied to theconman's topic in Web Hosting Support
You will find on the index page of this forum If that's not clear enough, I guess you should PM admins. When you have further question regarding keeping your hosting credits (meaning how many days you can go without posting before your hosting package is suspended) check the link to Hosting Credit FAQ link in my signature. Once you are satisfied, I will close this thread. EDIT: Yes, 30 credits (hosting credits) also means 30 days. -
Perhaps a possible answer is among these programs listed here http://www.hotscripts.com/search/4776000.html I am in the process of looking through for my personal usage as well. I am looking for a calendar scheduler when a visitor enters the day; the scheduler would not take any more "appointments" for that day if it's over 2 additional existing appointments--total of 3 per day. And I'm trying to find that is not MySQL or any data base related, if possible. Something in the field of writing and reading from a simple txt or csv file. I'll keep you updated once I find something interesting.

I Have 10 Credits... but its not working...
BuffaloHelp replied to theconman's topic in Web Hosting Support
If you need to post one after another, you may post your complete thoughts and click on REPORT to let mods know to merge your two posts. But, you should really think carefully before clicking on Add Reply or Submit Post. Once you apply for hosting, everyone starts from 4 hosting credits (no matter how many credits you had before). And I'm assuming since your approval, it took a day or so to activate your hosting--thus 3.03 hosting credits. (If this information is wrong someone will edit my fact). To upgrade to package 2, you need at least 30 additional hosting credits. I would advise you to have at least 35~40 hosting credits before requesting for upgrade. Hosting credits are determined by the length, language and quality of your post(s). You can write an excellent post with an essay structured style and gain 4 or more hosting credits. When you reply with one liner, you may only gain 0.12 credits. Okay? -
If the return address is a legitimate Yahoo! support team?s address, you really should respond and explain that you did no such thing. If this is a hoax (which I don't think so) Yahoo! cannot be used to serve as a mass emailing since its server won't let that happen. Worms are targeting personal computers and not email servers (such as Yahoo!). But in any case, if this is a hoax you can always click on spam block.Respond to it. Someone might have used your Yahoo! email as a return address (easily done with any offline email program) and sent spam out. Also, include in your response that you will cooperate to the fullest of your abilities. However, do not volunteer any personal information and when asked for sensitive information, do not give them over the email. Instead choose to call their 800 number.EDIT: Oh I just remembered, any email from Yahoo! itself will have light blue highlight on the line. Look for that.

If chkdsk /f does not help, also try chkdsk /r Yes, there is an (actually I'm 100% sure) excellent posibility that your Win98 cannot read Windows XP file formats (that is, if you formated your drive with Windows XP as NTFS). The questions still remain, what was the last action that caused this drive to be inaccessible? Can you scan with your anti-virus when you mount it as a slave drive?
-
Let's start with basics. I am assuming you started the repair process with the Windows XP setup disc, after loading you pressed R to repair? And when the dos prompt came up you typed chkdsk c: /f ?Can you scan for a virus in Maxtor when it's mounted as a slave? What were you doing/did initially at the time of this "inaccessibility" occurred? My feeling is that when an operating system cannot even seem to read the directory listing on a slave drive, that drive is inaccessible. You can still see the directory listing under any recovery programs, such as KillDisk (in this case low level formatting program), because KillDisk is picking up the byte information that was left for names, settings, directories, etc.

If you are using Windows XP (any version) you will find that Microsoft has included Movie Maker (update the version through Windows Update site). It is one of the best starting programs that I teach and recommend to my clients. Almost all effects, i.e. adding fade in, out, flip transition, are self-explanatory. Adding multiple clips to switch from one scene to another is easily done. Adding multiple soundtracks is as simple as click, drop, and paste. Once you get used to the idea of video editing, you will have no trouble navigating through Adobe Premiere. Remember, the fundamental ideas are the same; the only difference is the command name. For you to handle multiple formats I would suggest getting a file format converter, such as TMPGEnc (free ware). The process of handling multiple formats, i.e. avi, divx, xvid, mpg, mpeg, are easier when you convert all of them to the format that you are comfortable. Windows Movie Maker will handle avi and mpeg files without a problem. The rest formats, you should find a converter that can change, let's say, divx to avi or divx to mpg(mpeg). If you are going to save them as a file only (and not burn them to DVD disc), consider downloading free Windows Media 9 Encoder. It will convert any high-quality files and compress as small as divx can but, you can add Dolby 5.1 to Media 9 Encoder.Furthermore, for your digital camera, I believe most formats are in mov (unless you have Canon which is mpeg). All you need to do then (if files are not in mpeg) find a converter from mov to avi or mov to mpeg(or mpg). Search for those and they are readily available. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Denied Connection and cannot open TRAP17 sites
BuffaloHelp replied to dr1v3r's topic in Web Hosting Support
I have had some members, including myself, having the similar problem. And I think sometimes the internet security setting or the firewall setting may be preventing from accessing Xisto related sites. For the longest time, I couldn't open my own homepage hosted by Xisto unless I edited my HOSTS file. I still don't know what the problem was but my ISP sent an email out once, saying that since my ISP uses its internal firewall I am basically behind their proxy. Therefore, it was simply my ISP who was blocking me from going "internet" so to speak. -
Once you are hosting with Xisto, you can access cPanel to control your hosting place. You will find that phpBB is a part of pre-installed scripts among other goodies. You don't need to start writing a forum from scratch or ask someone to share the scripts. I recall something regarding no chat scripts to be running on any Xisto hostings. Would someone correct me, if I'm wrong?

Look, you can't help what's beyond your control right? You can't sit there and watch the traffic and block physically all by yourself, all day long. These things happen. A friend of mine worked on a program called, Project Honeycomb. Basically it's a virtual network system that seems to be fully functioning to hackers but their result does not "harm" the physical server(s). It's not easy, and perhaps I've probably spoiled many secrets, but would you consider something like that?
-
It's an excellent try for a newbie. I would have never thought to placing my creation and be willing to take some constructive criticism. Good job. If you would like to expand on your lighting skill, one of our members has just put out a tutorial for Create Simple Lightings effects. I hope that this article is useful.

Fozen Ice Man Tutorial in Photoshop
BuffaloHelp replied to green fairy's topic in General Discussion
How awesome is this? Now I know how to create my Iceman! I'm assuming this can be done with text as well? I like the first picture but, not sure about the frozen kitty. Poor thing... I believe you should start with a black (or at least a solid) background. Otherwise the background will be affected by this frozen/bleeding effect. You can then, clear the background color (background eraser) and use it to overlay on any background you choose. Here is a sample of what I did with my Photoshop CS. With text, just as I thought, you should flatten the layers otherwise the full bleeding (wind effect) will not continue beyond the text boundary. I started with the ice color for the font instead of Hue saturation. And the effects were slightly different for CS than the previous versions of Photoshop. I managed to "lengthen" the ice effect by adjusting the brightness and contrast levels. It also seems to me that if the picture you are working on is rendered or a 3D image, the affect is greater and more dramatic! I guess that's whey Hue saturation comes in handy. Very nice effect, indeed. -
Is There A Way To Make "absolute Links"? Like links in a picture..
BuffaloHelp replied to Milk's topic in Web Hosting Support
Milk, tatatee has written an excellent tutorial of editing image map effortlessly on this tutorial. I hope that helps you out in any ways. By the way, I've secretly always wanted to know how to do this, too -
Nice! An excellent tutorial. Just the other day, we had a member who asked how to make one of the images to be able to do this. I can't find that thread at this moment but when I do, I'll come bank and link that topic on this post. I believe that user will get a kick out of seeing tatatee's tutorial. Edit: The question was posted on this thread.

One possibility would be that the suspending script ran later than usual. Before your posting, I have heard few members stating that their database was down and such. This led me to thinking that perhaps the suspending and reanimating account script might have ran late. Who knows; only OpaQue can tell. Well, when you reached about 4 positive hosting credits, wait a few and your account will be unsuspended.OpaQue, I know you requested not to start topics such as this. I will close this thread.

What Do You Guys Think About My Paper? Its for a schoolarship.
BuffaloHelp replied to fsastraps's topic in Art & Creativity
The rule of writing a good paper is how you organize the delivery of your idea to the reader. Always think about who your readers are and then write it as though you are speaking to them. So try not to "generalize" too much, especially what you have not experienced yet. For example: You are not a parent yet, therefore, try rephrasing to make it like an observation that you have made from your own parents. The rule of using double commas is that the idea between two commas can be omitted and still make a sensible sentence. So, if you were to remove it the phrase should still make a full sentence. "Generally their parents teach him/her from right and wrong" does not make a complete sentence. When you want to continue with the same idea, I would write it as, "Generally when a child is young, a child's parents teach him/her from right and wrong." (notice I changed the plural noun to a singular noun to keep the same agreement) This way, if the sentence structure changes, "A child's parents teach him/her from right and wring generally when a child is young" you still have the complete idea. Keep your sentences simple and complete. This is fragment sentence. Either link to the first sentence or rearrange it to make it a complete sentence. "...referred as the process" would be better. "...which is a form of formal education" this idea is redundant. Simplify by stating it as, "the process of learning is also known as education and it is mostly obtained through attending a formal educational school." Fragment sentence. Link it to the next sentence with comma and lose the "although" or replace it with "however" to establish the contrast. When you list with commas the consistency is the key. For example, choose either to list as, "Education can be achieved by school, parent or family" or, "Education can be achieved by a school, a parent or a family member" The next following sentence contradicts your whole point of view. What you want to say is, "in some society, one must attend school since it is vital part of (component) of achieving success." I'll stop here. I believe you understand now what makes a good structured paper. I hope that I did not come down on you hard but, gave you another way to approach the ways of writing. Good luck and let us know how it goes. -
I Have 10 Credits... but its not working...
BuffaloHelp replied to theconman's topic in Web Hosting Support
Your application is reviewed and considered by admins (OpaQue and NilsC) whenever they are around. Since this is a volunteer position, there isn't a set time and when admins will approve your application. They are really busy building and rebuilding data contents and maintaining the forum as well. Xisto has nothing to do with a domain name. Domain names are something you have to purchase. You can always search your desired domain by going to Yahoo! or Google and typing it in. Xisto WILL, however, provide you with a subdomain. You can type in your browser's address line to see if your desired subdomain name is already taken, i.e. yourname.trap17.com, where yourname is your desired subdomain name. -
When a tutorial is accepted it will show up as soon as admin or mod approves it. If it's not accepted, it will stay invisible and you will not receive PM as to why it wasn't accepted. However, since everyone seems to understand how and what to write for tutorial, it won't be a problem not accepting it. In you case, M67, your tutorial images are not set correctly. When you upload supported pictures with your post, it seems as though all your pictures are the same. I approved one of your tutorials yet it still needs worked on. Your saying, "click here to enlarge" was going nowhere but the main place of imageshack.us. It's best to use "thumbnail with link" view for "forum 1" style for Xisto. The other tutorial's main image is too large for the width of this forum. You need to adjust the size no wider than about 640 pixel. You should always click on "preview post" to see if your width is fitting with the forum. Get back to me when you have the correct image links. Again, you may use imageshack.us or photobucket.comThank you.

If you are going to host large pictures and you would like to avoid sucking up your bandwidth, here are some of sites we've been discussing for alternative photo hosting places (conjunction to Xisto hosting) Photobucket ImageShack But be aware that you are hosting pictures at a site that is not totally controlled by you. Use these sites and other free photo hosting for pictures that may be accessed more than allowed bandwidth. We have some very active members who are posting tutorials for great photoshop effects (check out the tutorial section). Perhaps you would like to post your tutorial as well. Welcome to Xisto! Notice from BuffaloHELP: Edited a link.

Problems I have the second package (best)
BuffaloHelp replied to pilgrim_of_mini-monkeys's topic in Web Hosting Support
From time to time you may see little discrepancies on your storage information. Rest assure that once you applied for a hosting package, admins DO NOT make the mistake of giving out the wrong hosting package. Although I am not the one who corrected the issue, I'm glad that everything is back to normal. This thread is now closed.
