My New Pc Configuration tell me your opinions
odomike replied to odomike's topic in Hardware Workshop
Now come to think of it. I read a review of someone who bought an MSI RX2600XT Diamond Plus Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB 128-bit GDDR4 PCI Express x16 OC Edition HDMI HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card at NewEgg. Below is what he has to say about this ATI GPU powered card and an nVIDIA 7800GS/GT Now this is a plus for this graphics card and I am not looking back on that. You can read the review here http://forums.xisto.com/no_longer_exists/ I think you guys should have a peep at this card's specs before crucifying it. Has GPU core running at an amazing 850MHz and Memory clock at a sky-rocketting 2.3GHz. If you get an nVIDIA card at that spec with DX10, I bet you aint gonna get that for $200. Judging from this, I decided to compare the two GPUs and there prices. I found out that the 7800GS supports DX9.0c while the 2600XT supports DX10. Apart from that, the 7800 happened to be on the higher side for the price and that is one thing I am trying to be conscious about despite going for the maximum possible performance. So, why cant I get better gaming and graphics rendering performance for lower cash? I bet everyone would wana do same too. -

You got a very good point there rayzoredge. I am definitely gonna add a very good sound card in the qeue. And also the speakers too. I am making some changes to the whole configurations. I am changing the 1650XT GPU to an ATI RADEON™ HD 2600XT GPU this time and I also gonna retain the same video memory (1GB). I know that this would sound very outrageous to anyone that hears it but thats the way I want it so wont have to bother myself about graphics processing power anytime. And yea, I am still waiting for my question to be answered about the nVIDIA mobo and ATI GPUs and crossfire. Well, I aint going for the 680i SLI mobo again 'cos I wanna make a change this time and use ATI. I've been an nVIDIA fan for more than 5 years now. I am actually comparing some mobos from ASUS and Gigabyte and I think I am most likely gonna go for the Gigabyte after the whole comparisms. I have used a number of Gigabyte mobos and one feature I love about these mobos is the fact that your CPU really stays cool even after O'Cing. That is one thing that is good about them using the Motherboard Intelligent Tweaker. -

Sorry Saint. I got disconnected and the connection never came back till the next morning. I was later able to find an ASUS motherboard that supports Crossfire with an Intel P35 Northbridge and Intel ICH9R Southbridge. Supports DDR2 1066MHz and DDR3 1333MHz and running on FSB 1333. It is an ASUS P5K-V LGA 775 Intel G33 ATX Intel Motherboard. I am still deciding which one to take between these two: Open Box: ASUS P5K-V LGA 775 Intel G33 ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM and Open Box: ASUS P5K LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM. As you guys can see, one is using a G33 intel chipset while the other uses a P35. I am thinking the P35 would be better though. Apart from that, talking abou tthe NVIDIA GFX card and the ATI x1650PRO card, what exactly are the differences here? I have tried to make some comparisms with my old GeForce FX 5200 Ultra (128MB DDR) and I found out that this card n GPU is a much better option than what I previously had. It supports a lota nice features (judging from what I read at the sapphire website). You can go there and have a look for yourself. Yea, I am really considering going for a case without a PSU and then buy the PSU separately. I know its gonna be more expensive than buying one with an inbuilt PSU but it would most likely come with a higher quality PSU. here is the link to the PSU I selected for the configuration APEVIA ATX-AS600W-BL 600W Power Supply - Retail. And oh before I forget, I decided to add an additional 400GB SATA II HDD to the previous 2x 400GB SATA II HDDs. Making it total of 1.2TB (1200GB) of Hard Drive memory. Wel, I dont wanna trouble myself about space in my PC at any time at all no matter what I have to pack in there. left to me, I dont think my configuration is bad, but i am still very open to advice from you guys. Still waiting for more of your opinions. -

Oh well, I wanted this to be a one time configuration and I am just gonna forget about any personal desktop and focus on getting a better laptop for myself.I wanted a computer that will play all the games you CAN EVER THINK OF while not using a very high tech video card. 1GB of video ram aint no joke and I am gonna stick to it.ATM, I am using a HP Compaq nx6310 with an Intel CoreDuo T2400 with 1GB or DDR2 667 and a DVD-RAM Drive. Thinking of going up to the T7000 series in my next laptop upgrade. Thanks for the compliment delivi. -
I decided to make a lota upgrade in my desktop. which will comprise changing everything practically. Below is the configuration I came up with for the PC: Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 Kentsfield 2.4GHz 2 x 4MB L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor - OEM Mobo: ASUS P5N32-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard - OEM RAM: WINTEC 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Memory (x2) making it 4GB total. Hard Disks: SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD403LJ 400GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM) x2 (800GB) total VGA: SAPPHIRE 100195L Radeon X1650 512MB 128-bit GDDR2 PCI Express x16 CrossFire Supported) x2 'cos I wanna use it on ATI crossfire. CD/DVD: LITE-ON 20X DVD?R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black SATA Model (x2) Monitor: Niko NIKO-2017MAAW Black 20" 16ms DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor Case+PSU: RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WBP Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 500W Power Supply I wanna know what you feel about this my config. Another thing is, the mobo is using an nVIDIA nFORCE 680i SLI. Which means that it is definitely supporting the NVIDIA SLI tech. Would it also suport ATI CrossFire as it is using an nVIDIA Northbridge and southbridge chipsets. I hope it aint gonna be giving me any problems with the ATI graphics cards. You opinions are highly needed here.

Windows Vista...oh My God.. Ever experienced this?
odomike replied to odomike's topic in Operating Systems
Any computer that has the required hardware configuration for running Windows Vista should be able to run is very well. My laptop is using a Core2Duo T5500 processor, with 1.00GB of DDR2 667 and with 80GB of HDD space and an Intel 945GM Northbridge chipset. I see no reason why this hardware config wont run vista properly. This is not about hardware configuration 'cos I have seen people who are running windows vista with worse hardware config. This is all about an error that was generated by the OS.I have tried to contact MS because of this. All to no avail. -
Well, I prefer to create my websites from the scratch so that I can rightly and proudly tell anyone that I created that site. It is not like I have to start editting something someone else created. Apart from that, it enables me to learn from my mistakes. Anytime I find a mistake in my codes and I am somehow able to correct this, I am never gonna make that same mistake again. I did use CSS in the page. You should have a closer look at the header codes. You will notice the CSS codes there.

Default Email Problem In My Cpanel I need urgent help
odomike replied to odomike's topic in Web Hosting Support
No. Actually, I sent the test emails from my Cpanel (Horde Mail to be exact). I was never using any emailing client. How am I gonna delete the emails from the old domain name when I have already deleted the domain itself completely? There is something that is really baffling me here. How the old domain name's email still shows up whenever I send an email to anyone through the new domain. I don't know if the Admins can help me with this. but I really need it urgently for my domain.PLEEAASSEE HEELLPP!!! -
Windows Vista...oh My God.. Ever experienced this?
odomike replied to odomike's topic in Operating Systems
I am not asking for recommendations about which OS I could use in replacement for Vista. Rather, I posted the problems I encountered with Win Vista Ultimate. I have used Ubuntu myself and i used it quite considerably. So, I know almost everything you can say about Ubuntu and most of the popular Linux Distros (Have used about 12 or more distros myself). I aint saying that Vista is bad (BTW, I am still using it). Only that I cannot just figure out why it misbehaved that way. It has never done taht to me before (as I have been using it for almost 4 months now.). I checked out at the Microsoft website for any links to where I can yell out my complaints to 'em, but the damn site aint got nothing to offer. Too bad..and I mean...really too bad. Microsoft should do something about their customer support. It is a complete mess. -
I previously registered my domain name in Xisto as symcom-ng.uni.cc but, for some reason, I decided to change it to micron-web.uni.ccNow, I had this email: odomike@symcom-ng.uni.cc as my default email addy while I was using the previous domain name but I decided to change my default to odomike@micron-web.uni.ccI don't know why odomike@symcom-ng.uni.cc is still showing in the sender's address whenever I send an email to anyone. I sent a test email to my Yahoo! email addy and what I saw there is odomike@symcom-ng.uni.ccPlease help me. how do I change this to reflect my new domain name. I have gone to change the default email addy in CPanel but that was not of any help.Admins and Mods, please help.

Windows Ntfs Folder And File Compression. Good Or Bad?
odomike replied to odomike's topic in Operating Systems
Well, Microsoft should have thought about this during the development of this very technology which they incorporated into the NTFS file system. I think this is a kinda hitch on MS as they should have thought about this very issue. What I generally do now is that I only compress my backup partitions while leaving the root and installation partitions uncompressed. -
The burning smell you percieved would most likely be because one thing or the other went bad in there. there might have been some sort of short circuiting in your computer that caused the short circuiting and made one of your components to sstop working. If you are using an AMD microprocessor, and there is any over heating in there, the possibility of your processor being able to withstand the heat is on the lower side, but if you are using an Intel processor, you have a better chance that it aint your processor that went bad. if any of the numerous components on the motherbaord gets burnt, it would still give out the same burning smell as any other burnt electrical device. it is wrong of you to say that. I would suggest that you check your processor, motherboard and memory to know whether they are bad or not. Put on your motherboard; with the ram and the CPU removed and listen for beeps. If you hear them, then most likely your mobo is good. Put in the ram and listen for beeps again. If no beeps this time, I think your mobo is good. Put in your processor now with a PSU you confirmed to be good and working fine and try to power your PC again. Remember to remove the heatsinnk from the processor and feel its top. If you feel any heat emanating from the processor, the probability is that your processor is still good. This does not mean though that you mobo is good if the procesor produces heat. This simply means that the mobo was able to supply power to the CPU that made it produce the heat. Then for the memory. check them to know the chips are heating up abnormally or whether they are just warming up. If excessive heat is felt, go and buy another memory module. If this is not the case, your rams are likely still good. Then consider changing your PSU as this is most likely what got burnt. You can check whether your PSU is still good by shorting the green and the black connector in the PSU. It has to be the black connector immediately next to the green one. If the fan turns on, then the PSU is ok. Try these troubleshooting techniques and you would most likely not spend your money on calling a system techie.

What exactly is this unreal computers all about? you should at least give us a hint about what the other person would get in return for his time and efforts since this is a business venture.Be a lil' bit more explanatory.

I believe everyone in this forum knows what a file system means and that every windows user knows what FAT and NTFS means so I am not gonna start going into those. Well, the NTFS (Windows NT file system) offers a few advantages over the good ol' FAT (File allocation table) file system one of which is the files and folders compression. This I have done quite a number of times to save disc space (and it really does save some disc space). i am using my computer as an example here. Consider my 35GB partition which is carrying my Windows Vista Operating sys and has less than 6GB (5.66GB to be exact) free space. I decided to run files and folders compression on the partition to recover som useful space in there. This I did and when the process finally finished, I found out that I have recovered more than 5GB of space which the files in my HDD were playing around with. Well, this is a very good feature for anyone who is conscious about the space in his/her HDD. the lil' hitch in here (or so I thought) is that I felt that my computer's performance kinda came down a lil' bit. I kept wondering why. This happened after the files and folders compression was done. Could it be that the files that where compressed, that it was not possible for the HDD read heads to read the files fast enough as it was doing before probably due to the files that were compressed? I just cannot figure out why this is happening. now, i am considering uncompressing the files and folders in that particular drive/partition. Apart from that, during the time I was using my desktop (which I exchanged for this laptop taht I am using right now), I had three HDDs in there (240GB in all [80GB x 3). I have always noticed that during data transfer between partitions or individual HDDs, the compressed partitions transfer at a slower rate than the uncompresed ones by a big margin. Just think of a situation whereby an uncompressed HDD partition is able to transfer files with as much as 48MB/sec while the compressed on was transfering at lower than 15MB/sec. This is really annoying if you are my kinda person who is always moving large chunks of data within your computer and you have to wait for more than 20 mins for your PC to transfer a 10GB worth of data. Well, I am still wondering whether the files and folders compression being offered by the NTFS file system is worth the trouble or did Microsoft make it a case of YOU CANNOT EAT YOUR CAKE AND HAVE IT? in which case you have to sacrifice performace in order to regain hard drive space.

Windows Vista...oh My God.. Ever experienced this?
odomike replied to odomike's topic in Operating Systems
I know what system restore is all about. Only that I decided to give it a trial to make sure that I didnt leave out anything and since it was the OS that caused this error. I have not even contacted Microsoft concerning this. It never occured to me though. Now that you have mentioned this, I am heading straight to MS's website to give them the worse complaint ever. -
Windows Xp Service Pack 3 & Vista Service Pack 1
odomike replied to megabytemb's topic in Operating Systems
it would be better if you would have done the research yourself and posted the link to that in here instead of sending us to go do some googling out there. In case anyone wanna read it, here is the link http://www.pkblogs.com/curiousgawker/2005/1-ready-in.html or just go through it here This actually is something that hapened before the commercial release of MS Windows Vista and the SP has already been incorporated into the commercial release and you dont need to go downloading this. I havent come across any service pack for Windows Vista throughout my visits to MS's website. -
What Country To Do You Live In, And Rate It.
odomike replied to Fu Still Better's topic in General Discussion
I live in Nigeria. Would give it a 4/10 because...1. there is so much corruption in Nigeria that you cant help feel disgusted if you are amongst the good guys.\2. The economy is one big mess and only a few of the people at the top seem to give a damn about taht fact.3. Things are so dificult and if you arent talented one way or the other, sorry for you.4. I feel Nigeria still has a very long way to go to achieve their economic goal and the journey should be started immediately. -
Dual booting definitely isnt gonna be much problem here. My HP Compaq nx6310 came with Windows XP Professional installed, probably because of the 512MB ram pre-installed in there. But, I kinda prefer Windows Vista because of most of the new features it has to offer. I had to partition the HDD and install Vista on another prtition in there. My advice though is that before you start the instalation of another OS to create the Dual boot, make sure that Dell has all the Windows XP version of your hardware drivers (they would be dumb not to provide for that though). it would be a very pityble state if after creating the dual boot and you find out that these are not available.Though there is a workaround to that. You simply delete the partition which is carrying your windows xp and also remove the boot loader from your vista BSD (assuming that you left vista in the first partition which is carrying the the boot sector). If you wanna do this, just post back in here and I would give you a reply on how to go about it.

I know, like you guys said, that it would be real gr8 to have a HDD of that capacity. But, just think of this, after packing every damn information and file you can ever think of in there and once upon a time.....BOOOOOOM..... it crashes. Now taht aint gonna sound funny to anyone at all. Anyways, no one prays for that though. It sure would be real great but I kinda dont really believe that. How can you put water in a HDD? or is the water meant to be some sort of cooling system for the HDD?that will be real kool though and hard to maintain (so I think).

I have been using Windows Vista Ultimate on my desktop since about 4 months now and I have never experienced something like what I met a few days ago. Actually, I now use a laptop which I got in exchange for my desktop (I exchanged my desktop with my friend's laptop and installed the same Windows Vista Ultimate on the laptop). U know, I visited Microsoft's website and read an article which gave some measures which someone can take to speed up his Windows PC. One of them happened to running Disk Cleanup from time to time in order to clear some of the useless temp files which some programs put in your temp folder. I have been doing exactly this and I have never had any problems at all. There has even been a time when I had mistakenly deleted my hiperfil.sys file by selecting for the disc cleanup util to delete the hibernation file cleaner, but that was not as sever as what I experienced recently. Ok, this was what happened. I decided to run some optimization measures on my OS to make it a lil' faster and after running a virus check and running scan disk, I decided to also run disk cleanup. After the utility finished scanning, it detected that the per user queued error report was about 127GB in size. Now, thats very very surprising considering the fact that I don't even have up to that size in the laptop's HDD. I do have 80GB total HDD size in there and the partition that is carrying the Vista OS is only 35GB. So, there is no way an error report on a 35GB partition can generate something more than 100GB. Well, despite the surprise, I decided to go ahead and wipe these error reports not knowing that I am in for a bomb shell this time. It took it quite some time (a lota time so to say-more than an hour. thats quite surprising for a laptop of that config [core duo t2400 w/1GB or Dual Channel DDR2 667 and an 80GB SATA II HDD) to wipe all the error files in there. When it finally finished, I checked and to my utter amazement, found that my 35GB partition is now having a 26.2GB free space (whereas I had less than 10GB free space before and I know that I have installed quite a whole lota programs in there and quite heavy programs too[encarta student 2007, ilumina gold 2, adobe Photoshop cs3, dreamweaver cs3, fireworks cs3 to mention but a few]). WOOOW...I immediately rushed into my C:\ to check out things for my self and I kept on wondering...what kinda super compression is this. You know what I met? Every damn installed program has disappeared from the program files. All i saw there was the default folders that come with the OS. Gosh...I went to Programs and Features (Add/Remove programs in Windows XP) and also found that every damn program has disappeared. I have never met this kinda experience since I started using computers and Windows. I tried to see if it is something which System restore can reset and guess what? my system restore has been automatically disabled. I knew there was nothing I could do to save the situation. Fortunately, I am the kinda person that loves making backups of important files and folders and I had created a backup into another partition in the same HDD which was untampered with. I had to reformat and get the OS working again. Now I have everything reinstalled and working. I am even scared to run the disk cleanup again less I meet the same misfortune. Has anyone ever had this kinda experience with an OS? Whether Windows Vista or not?
-
You have to understand that changing the priority of any program in your PC can make that program to either utilize more or less processor and ram resources. This isnt something anyoone should try doing on his/her computer. If you wanna do something like that, you should make sure that you are using a good processor (pentium 4 or higher/equivalent processor) and probably about 512MB of ram/more.Like he said, never use the realtime as this particular program can utilize your processor resources alone and will actually make the other programs to crash.
-
Well, I am using an OEM Windows Vista that came with my laptop. And also, the Windows XP I have installed is also an OEM version.I used to have a pirated version which I downloaded from internet but I found out that Microsoft wont allow me to install and enjoy most of their Windows updates, so I had to get an OEM version to install and use. It doesn't require activation on my HP Compaq Laptop.
